The Best Ice Cream Shops in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This seasonal, New Zealand-style real fruit ice cream cart offers a wide selection of its own scooped ice creams, with flavors like Trailhead espresso or oatmeal and brown sugar. Because Beaux Berry makes its own range of ice creams, visitors can get creative with the cart’s real fruit ice cream — essentially soft-serve with actual berries blended into the mix." - Michelle Lopez

The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Beaumont-Wilshire Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Peak ice cream weather may not last long in the Pacific Northwest, but when it does, Portlanders indulge in a longstanding passion for fresh berries. Beaux Berry boasts two dozen flavors of its own small batch ice creams — including several vegan options — but the main attraction here is the fresh berry blending. Choose between marionberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, or a medley to blend into vanilla ice cream (or another flavor for those feeling daring). Note that Beaux Berry is typically only open for business in the warmer months." - Nathan Williams

Google
Truly a fantastic ice cream find. If you can make it over to Beaux Berry, I highly recommend that you do. I wouldn't even bother trying to pass go or collect the $200. I would just simply go to get ice cream in the most rapidous fashion available to you. For such a small place they definitely carry some big flavors! From simple raspberry to the more eclectic black sesame seed ice cream, you will not be disappointed with your choice.

Google
This place has the best ice cream in Portland! The workers are great, all the flavors are amazing, and the ice cream is incredibly high quality. My go-to is pandan with hazelnuts in a waffle cone.

Molly Smith

Google
Tasted 6 different flavors before settling on the cookies and sweet cream. Added the chocolate shell and chopped hazelnuts. So creamy, so delicious. Highly recommend!

Clare McClellan

Google
Amazing addition to the neighborhood! I tried the chocolate and honey lavender, both so good. Loved their selection of flavors, and I can’t wait to try the blended fresh fruit soft serve. They also had vegan and delicious sounding ice cream cookie sandwiches!

Mae O

Google
If you get the flight like me, make sure you have someone to share it with!! So much ice cream. The real fruit flavors are the best.

Amanda Moy

Google
Absolutely loved the ice cream at Beaux Berry. They’re a small food pod located on the side of Tacovore, by the parking lot. The pistachio ice cream was soooo good. I bought a pint of it for home.

Google
Newer owners and this is my first time since the change in ownership. The ice cream seems less dense and melted very fast even as compared to a similarly hot day several years ago. The oatmeal brown sugar flavor had actual oatmeal (which I suppose I should have anticipated) and that made for an odd chewy texture in the middle of creamy ice cream base. It was also extremely sweet. So—it is very good ice cream but not as good as some other local places.

Google
Amazing ice cream. A choice of traditional flavors and a Real Fruit ice cream that is made of cream blended with fresh, whole fruit (currently the choices for that are berries). Waffle cones are often out later in the day, like 3:30 when I went. In the picture I got a marionberry real fruit ice cream with Cajeta Caramel. The marionberry is seedy (considering it's marionberries tossed in to a squeezer) and the Cajeta Caramel is an easy recommendation considering it's a $1 upgrade for Regular-sized scoops. It tastes like honey.

Yelp
This place offers New Zealand fruit ice cream which is ice cream blended with fresh fruit. It is operated as a food cart behind a restaurant, with plenty of parking in the small plaza. We got the double that allowed 2 flavors, so we got oatmeal brown sugar and marionberry flavors with raspberry drizzle on top. Total was $8.50 which is a decent price, including the $0.50 surcharge for the topping. I wouldn't recommend the raspberry drizzle as it was quite sweet but the ice cream was excellent. The server gave us good recommendations of the flavors as we wanted one non fruit flavor and one fruit flavor. The oatmeal brown sugar has nice texture from the oatmeal and pairs super well with the marionberry. Even the fruit ice cream has creamy notes from the milk in the ice cream!

Yelp
This food truck has some very yummy ice cream. They have several different flavors. My experience has been with the dairy free soft serve mixed with berries. Super yum! Cones and cups. Fun toppings and sprinkles. Keep in mind, it's not always open and they do run out of things - - super bummer if you've walked all the way over, only to find out that they are out of dairy-free but no worries :) it happens.

Yelp
Stopped in on a hot day to have a taste. As already mentioned this is a cart on the side of Tacovore by the parking lot so it had easy parking. There was a small group of middle school boys on a Friday afternoon super excited to to be making a stop here at the front of the line and a girl and her father behind them and then me. Soon a few others came after me. It was quite the Friday afternoon spot. There was only 1 girl working but everyone was patient, it's Portland, we don't mind waiting for good stuff. The lady working was friendly and pretty fast considering she was alone. I ordered a "regular" which is actually 2 scoops! (A mini appears to be one flavor:1 scoop) so I had the Orange Dream and Trailhead Espresso with a dark chocolate shell in a waffle cone which upped my $5 ice cream to $7 for 2 scoops, topping and a waffle cone. I just thought the chocolate shell sauce was a lil on the sparse side. My favorite was the Orange dream with the shell, but again, I wish it covered the scoop more. When I got to the espresso. It was also tasty and had what seemed like flecks of either coffee or chocolate in it. It was good but I was really diggin the Orange Dream. I did not try the soft serve with fruit because Nicos's across from my house does that and I wanted something different. But definitely a sweet spot in the neighborhood to get a lil frozen treat! It would be five stars if the chocolate shell sauce actually covered the ice cream.

Yelp
This was much needed on a 91 degree day, but honestly I'd crave this ice cream even on a rainy day! I got the fresh fruit ice cream which was strawberry! Think of the most amazing soft serve with real fruit. It was a vanilla base with real berries swirled in, I think the machine that was used was like a milkshake machine but the texture was so creamy and divine! Got a mini scoop for $3.75! What a deal. Service was quick and staff friendly.

Yelp
Beaux Berry is a small ice cream cart now located off Fremont, right next to Tacovore. They offer unique flavors like churro, honeycomb, ginger molasses, oatmeal and brown sugar, pistachio, root beer float, and more. They have three vegan options. Alternatively, you can order real fruit ice cream which has been a big trend here in Portland lately. The ice cream was good. Good texture, flavors hit the right notes. Service was surprisingly slightly slow. I felt like prices were a little high for the size of the serving. The shared patio with Tacovore makes for a nice atmosphere to sit down and enjoy your ice cream. While I'm not sure it impressed me enough to make the drive here over other closer options, this is a great choice for dessert after dinner at Tacovore.

Yelp
Well, I suppose we have our new ice cream spot now that What's The Scoop is closed -- absolutely killer flavors; we tried four: lemon chiffon, salted caramel, pistachio, and espresso. I'm obsessed with the pistachio and espresso (my cup) and got their homemade hot fudge on top which was an excellent addition. Holy cow, I wanna go back for more right now. No photos, it went into our faces too fast!

Yelp
Disclaimer: This review is totally subjective; Beaux Berry, as an experience, would be five stars. I'm giving Beaux Berry three stars, because it falls in the realm of "take it or leave it" for me. I love ice cream, and I love berries, so this seemed like a win/win. The concept is unique: Beaux Berry uses a vanilla ice cream base -- Tillamook for dairy; Coconut Bliss for non-dairy -- and runs it through a fancy machine with your choice of berry, producing a consistency between hard and soft serve. That's where the magic stops. I ordered a vegan cup of ice cream with strawberry & marionberry (regular size); berries of choice were a combination of marionberry and strawberry. It was tasty, but as expected, full of berry seeds. Total cost was $6, and I wish I had just gotten vanilla ice cream with berries on the side. It would have been less seed-y, less melty, and more interesting. The "mini" size is the size of a ping pong ball ($4); "regular" is the size of a tennis ball ($5), and non-dairy base costs extra. Otherwise, there's nothing new here. They do serve other flavors of dairy ice cream, and they have vegan ice cream sandwiches from Doe. I would recommend Beaux Berry for dessert if you're already dining next door; or, if you're a fan of berries or berry ice cream, and if you don't mind crunching on seeds.

Yelp
I say this honestly... I believe this was the most delicious and decadent ice cream I've ever had! The flavors I chose were Marionberry and the Raw Honey Lavender. I all but licked the bowl when I was done. The serving of two flavors was $5 and I feel it was enough to satisfy and sample without being too much! It was well worth the visit. Next time I'm in Portland, I am definitely swinging by again to try more of their many flavors!

Yelp
The mixed berry real fruit ice cream was the perfect dessert! Sweet, tart, and berry-tastic! I ordered the mini because I was still full from dinner, and it was just the right size. Honestly, a little bigger than I anticipated and a good value! I also appreciated that they had contactless payment via Venmo.

Yelp
The best ice cream I've had yet. Not too sweet; not too milky! Not too fruity JUST RIGHT

Yelp
Tacovore does not offer dessert so what a great idea to lease parking lot space to this adorable cart. The menu is touch confusing at first as they offer "homemade" flavors and also Tillamook ice cream mixed with fresh fruit. The nice people encourage samples and I opted for the creamy and crunchy Churro at first bite. You also have your choice of a sauce topping at (I believe) no extra charge. The quick to harden dark chocolate shell was a great compliment. For desserts smaller is better for me and they satisfy this trend with a perfect sized cup for $2.50. Lots of creative flavors without the fight for parking and lines.

Yelp
Michael, Julie, and I hit Grindz wit Tryz's new joint and then ice cream became an imperative. With record breaking temps in town, we were driven to score some sweet cream. Nico's was nearby but was closed. Not daunted, Michael looked for other options. "Hey, there's a cart on Fremont called Beaux Berry." We were off. Hells to the yeahs on this find! First, it's bomb to go with people who actively want to give you a taste of the mouthgasm flavors they've chosen. Michael's Churro in a slightly warm waffle cone (damn, I really wished I had ordered one) was that cream and cinnamon play on the palette with that cone hugging it and satisfyingly crunching with every bite. I doubled it with Free Trade Chocolate and Matcha. These are serious flavors. The IC Master in the truck is proud, and rightfully so, of the highest quality sourced ingredients they use. The chocolate wasn't basic. There were nuances of other flavors in it due to the purity of the cocoa used. The Matcha was deep and earthy- just the way I like it. Julie let us try her Espresso. The true Javaness of this scoop had me seriously considering a second round. The coffee flavor was delicate in the cream, but the micro-specks of ground beans raised the scoop to a flavor and textural hum of 'yasssss'. There were other flavors we all talked about having considered, which means, of course, a return trip. I mean the Brown Sugar Oat, Marrionberry, and others must be sampled, but next time in a waffle cone, doggoneit!

Yelp
This is a cute little ice cream cart! They have the best flavors that are rich in flavor. No BS on the flavors. You can get their homemade flavors blended with berries of your choice as well. They have cool machine that blends the berries with the ice cream and it comes out to be this cool texture. (Sorry I didn't get a pic of the cool swirl) I had the Churro and Vanilla today. I almost got some to take home it was so good! They have vegan options as well!

Moo Goo G.

Yelp
I am extremely fussy about ice cream. I don't like stabilizers, chemicals, various gums, Cal, or seaweed products used for stretchers, I like ice cream made out of simple ingredients. Yeah,, it has to be a cream content and strong enough natural flavorings. I have kissed a lot of frogs. I have found my port in the storm here. The flavors are great and strong and full bodied. The other day I got a few pints from another of the newer ice cream places in town, and nobody could tell what flavor the peach was. None of my friends guest peach , the closest was cantaloupe. There were several cantaloupe people. The peach here was rich and sweet and creamy and wonderful. The churro features very, very, very high and cinnamon and is among the best scoops of ice cream. I've had in my 69 years. They are very friendly. I can't recommend it highly enough. Although I have not tried the vegan, my friends who have swear by it. Marion Berry, lemon, chiffon, orange dream, coffee, vanilla, fair trade chocolate are all outstanding. Hallelujah!

Yelp
A cool ice cream cart that is located in the St John's area. The flavors here are pretty simple and also very tasty. I had a split scoop of cookies and sweet cream with churro saboroso. Both were very very good. The churro one was definitely a standout and makes you feel like you are actually eating one, just a cooler version. The service is pretty great and more props to the employee for being able to be the cart during the warm days.

Yelp
So do you like that fresh-sunripened-berry taste but now mixed with rich creamy vanilla ice cream? Well I do...
google avatar

Shashikala P.

Yelp
We went there last week, it was almost closing time, lighting was bad, couldn't properly see the menu board, we had couple of questions as it was our first time but the girl behind the counter wasn't so nice answering the questions. So just went with vanilla with strawberry, it's like a soft serve and a Portland pistachios both were good. For ice cream it's 4stars, service 2stars.
google avatar

Yelp
Waited nearly 30 mins on a 4-5 person line for ice cream. One person working there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon is just poor planning. Also, the one person taking orders was taking easily 5-7 minutes to prepare each order. My friend ordered, got served, and ate three tacos from next door in the time it took for me to get ice cream on a relatively short line. This is ice cream, not gourmet cooking! It should not take this long to make a couple of cones. Then when we finally did get out ice cream the flavor was average and the scoop size was ridiculously small. Disappointing on several fronts.
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
I got the vegan vanilla base with mixed berry and the regular size, I believe it was over $5. Its three stars due to the value you get for the price, the regular is more what you imagine their mini is, and for over $5 the ice cream should be out of this world and it was just average. Its convenient to have dessert in the mix with other food trucks and their product didn't taste bad, it was just overall average and too pricey.
google avatar

Anthony J.

Yelp
My fourteen year old and I went on an adventure for ice cream and were very pleased with our experience. We both got the fruit and ice cream mix; blueberry for me, raspberry for him. Placed in a cup, topped with hot fudge and a cone. It was delicious. 5/5 will visit again.

Yelp
jay and ani were so good! I loved them!!! best flavors ever.

Yelp
YOU GO NOW. The fine folks at Beaux Berry have brought a new twist to town, and it literally is a twist. They've shipped in a snazzy machine from faraway lands (seriously - New Zealand) that combines hard scoop ice cream with fruit or I suppose just about anything you could think to put in it. Think: the bright flavors of a froyo, but without the crappiness of being froyo. Super fresh tasting, COLD, an abundance of topping and mix-ins, no lines wrapped around the block (yet). Why are you still reading? If you're looking for traditional ice cream they also have you covered with some fantastic flavors from Scoop and again that abundance of toppings. Verified bomb status: Strawberry twisty thing with mint, strawberry twisty thing with cocoa nibs, churro ice cream with magic shell. Enjoy.

Adrian A.

Yelp
I've been visiting Portland for the past week and I've been to this ice cream place three times. It's that good! Get the churro and cookies & cream flavors together - this perfect combo will leave your tastebuds wanting more. All summer long.
google avatar

Troy H.

Yelp
I am so happy to have passed on Salt&Straw. This little place has some amazing flavors as well as vegan ice cream that tastes great. If I were not currently on Keto I would be there now. I really hope they are able to stick around so I can return.
google avatar

JW R.

Yelp
BB is a nice break amid all the super gimmicky nonsense from some of Portland's most overhyped ice cream makers. The flavors are recognizable. Generally recognizable, I mean I don't know what Stracciatella is, but it sounds like something that should be in ice cream. Not beef stew or sea food. But it you get some normal ice cream here you're kinda missing the point. The killer app at Beaux Berry is the berries. Mixing berries and stuff into good ole amazing vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect thing.
google avatar

Ziwei L.

Yelp
Love the mini size with oatmeal flavor! First time here, it's pretty good! My boyfriend got lemon and vanilla in large, I think the good thing is you can get 4 different flavor for one waffle cone which is nice. We eat too fast to take a picture Imao
google avatar

Paisley G.

Yelp
Really cute little ice cream truck next to Tacovore. In the summer heat, nothing can beat their real fruit ice cream: blended berries on a vanilla ice cream base. (I recommend raspberry with mint.) Very friendly and fast!
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Great flavors and consistency -- so refreshing! We tried the Lemon Chiffon, Orange Dream, and Marionberry, and loved them all! Though the consensus was that the Marionberry was our favorite. The fresh fruit mix-in flavors are almost soft-serve texture, and just sooooo smooth. And all at a reasonable price with great service. Stop by this friendly ice cream truck for a cool treat! Highly doubt you'll regret it.

Alec J.

Yelp
One of the greatest ice cream spots! The cookies & cream is something we keep going back for. ...like a lot of times ...for pints ...like multiple pints at once
google avatar

Matt E.

Yelp
First things first, how in the hell does this place only have two reviews? They've been open for months! Blows my mind... With that out of the way, I LOVE Beaux Berry. This ice cream food cart gives it to ya two ways. You can either do hard-packed scoops of ice cream (made by the fine people at... Scoop), that is always served in fun flavors. The other option, however, is what I think distinguishes Beaux Berry from any other cart in town. So, they've got this machine. It basically turns hard-packed vanilla ice cream from Tillamook into soft serve. And even better, you can blend in fresh fruits and other add-ons. I had a cone of soft-serve strawberry basil ice cream made right before my eyes. While it was a little drippy and required I eat it quickly, it was so delicious that speed of consumption wasn't at all a problem. You could also do magic shell and other toppings if you so wished. Soft serve always seems so processed. It was really great to enjoy it knowing just how fresh it can be. This cart is rad. Visit.

Yelp
Best ice cream in PDX. Fast and friendly, a comforatable location to pick up a pint to bring home all while suppporting a lovely small business.

Yelp
We loved everything we tried tonight. A double scoop of Churro/cinnamon and Portland pistachio, a strawberry scoop, and cookies and cream in a cup. All fresh, flavorful, creamy, rich but not too rich, and served with a (masked) smile. Thanks! We will be back.
google avatar

Ariella S.

Yelp
Favorite ice cream in Portland and we tried them ALL. Creamy, thick, flavorful. Love the mixed berry swirl and the churro. Oatmeal brown sugar was a tastebud heaven. Especially fans of the texture and full bodied flavors. Keep it up!!!
google avatar

carmen k.

Yelp
I had their churro saboroso and it was really good. My husband had their chocolate flavor and it was equally as good. The only downfall was that they were out of most of their flavors, homemade waffle cones, and their toppings. We went on a Monday and hadn't restocked yet. Their varied pecans were delicious, they were both salty and sweet.
google avatar

Margo B.

Yelp
Get the lemon chiffon with pressed Marion berries if they have it! The best ice cream I've ever had.
google avatar

Grace W.

Yelp
It is basically the start of summer when they open their cart for our family. This cart is the beloved spot of fruit blended, sprinkle topped goodness my daughter waits patiently for every year! Thank goodness we have this in our neighborhood, everyone who works in this cart is lovely, and it is the perfect after dinner treat. They even have kid sized portions, which is awesome, and we love the quality and variety of ice cream and toppings. We can't recommend them enough! Go ahead. Eat the ice cream

C L.

Yelp
Yum yum!! Mint cookie was so good! Even got a vanilla scoop for the dogs! Hit the spot! Pls come to SE!!!

Yelp
Wow!!!!! The Mint Straciatella was To Die For!!!!! The Lemon chiffon was incredible and the fresh berry soft serve was yummy!!!!! Go here now!!!!!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Okay so, um...my fear in writing this is that by the time I actually get to Beaux Berry this afternoon, there will be an industrial-drum-sized long line because you read this review and decided to head over to the wonderful gift of an ice cream cart. The ice cream is smooth, yummy- delicious and honestly one of the best ice cream places in town. They make a limited number of flavors so don't expect a massive selection. Just expect Yum. I'm not gonna tell you more because you'll just get in line in front of me and then I'll be upset because all of the ice cream will be gone. The people that are scooping the ice cream are sweet and warm and wear masks, which is uber cool and conscientious to do during a pandemic. Well, maybe wearing a mask is mandated right now-- either way--the people behind the masks are great! Dare I tell you more and have to wait in an even longer line? Okay, here's a little more...there is a little bit of seating outside of the food cart in the parking lot right next to Tacovore. By the way, the line isn't usually very long --they're pretty efficient scoopers. If you choose to get a doughnut though, Pips (Pip's?) down the street has a massive line. Hey, on that note, maybe go to Pips instead so I can get my ice cream! Enjoy!!!
google avatar

Erika S.

Yelp
This place is solid! Always delicious, vegan options that aren't lame, they make their own sugar cones, and the cherry on top, they are suuuuuper nice and friendly. No pretentiousness or disappointment, just delicious ice cream.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
The Real Fruit Ice Cream is the ice cream of my dreams. I had the one with marionberries and actually preferred it to Salt & Straw.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
This was my second time there and I was as equally impressed as the first time! My son has severe food allergies and the staff were awesome about answering my questions and making sure his ice cream was safe from dairy, strawberries, and nuts. We loved the coconut dairy free with fruit in it. Such an awesome experience overall. We'll be back again soon!
google avatar

Mona A.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream blended on-the-spot with fresh fruit. The result is less sweet than most ice creams, yet full of more real fruit flavor, with a texture similar to a firm soft serve ice cream. There is also regular ice cream available with other toppings, but my husband and I agreed that we loved the blended-in fruit and would return for it! Note to Beaux Berry: please light your sign on your truck. We almost missed your delicious experience because we thought you were closed, then almost gave up on ordering because the sign was hard to read in dim light. Thanks!
google avatar

Gavin F.

Yelp
Awesome!!! Salted caramel with hot fudge cannot be beat!! My wife prefers the lemon chiffon swirled with blueberries, but then she tries to steal spoonfuls of my salted caramel and hot fudge, so I think we all know who chose the winning combo.

Danielle J.

Yelp
Love this place on a hot day; love this place on a cool day. Great service, delicious ice cream! The food cart pod is also a big draw for us. So many great options!

H K.

Yelp
Nice to have an independent local option for delicious ice cream in St Johns. Convenient location. Especially if you are eating at the food cart pod that it is in and need a treat after. And they have kids sizes, which is great, because my kiddos don't need allll that sugar. (And some other carts don't have kid sizes!)

Chrissy T.

Yelp
Really really good! Super fresh and original. Try the churro ice cream!!! We'll be back.
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
I love their ice cream and ice cream flavors. I really enjoy having fresh berry ice cream, Its this wonderful berry soft serve that (in my opinion) must be eaten in a waffle cone.I have been trying their sundaes and I must say, their salted caramel, hot fudge sundae with toffee pieces is to die for. So happy to see a great business in the neighborhood and I wish them all the success.

Lucy G.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing flavors!!! I have had the salted caramel and lemon chiffon! Nice and creamy and flavorful. And the waffle cones are delicious!
