All the Newest Restaurants in Charleston, Winter 2022 - Eater Carolinas

"Newcomer Bedford Falls comes to Charleston by way of the Upper East Side in Manhattan, where the first Bedford Falls bar opened. This version hopes to be a neighborhood bar with cheap drinks and a menu of the greatest hits — including burgers, blistered shisitos, and a nacho bowl. Status: Certified open." - Erin Perkins

We recently celebrated my daughter’s graduate school graduation at Bedford Falls! Brian, the owner did an amazing job! The food was amazing, the bartender was great and there was even a one-man band. We danced, sang and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this restaurant for just a night out or a special party!! It’s a special find!!!

We cannot stay away from this place! When we moved downtown we decided to wander the city and eat brunch somewhere new every Saturday. Then we ate at Bedford and find it hard to try a new place over the incredible experience that we know we will have there. The food is top notch, the play list and environment spot on, and the service is incredible. They remember you and it feels a little like sitting in your favorite aunt's kitchen (if she was super creative in her menu planning and totally obsessed with your taste buds). The pricing doesn't make sense to me, the experience is elevated. I have been resistant to talk about how great they are because I want them to continue to be accessible. It is a hidden gem. Great food, people, prices and ambience. In two words, elevated quaint.

My husband and I had lunch at a quaint little place in Charleston called Bedford Falls. We love the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life" and couldn't pass up the chance to visit Bedford Falls. We sat in one of the rooms of the restored Charleston home. My husband got a shrimp Po boy and I got shrimp tacos. The service and food were both great. It's hidden gem a little off the beaten path down Meeting Street away from the typical tourist area, but worth the walk, drive or take a rickshaw like we did:)

Pub, Restaurant, Patio. Tucked away right off Meeting Street this place offers indoor and outdoor seating and is really pet friendly. The menu isn’t vast but the food is good, with ample portions. The staff is super friendly. And did I mention dogs are welcome? Our four legged friend joined us for dinner and was given a bowl of cold water , some treats, and a few pets too. The kitchen is open late too which is great. (Until 12:30am). Was a little skeptical on ordering a cocktail since it seemed more like a beer/ wine kind of place but was quite happy with the Watermelon margarita. (So much so that I ordered 2!). For dinner I got tge fish and chips. It was huge! The fish was nicely fried with a light batter coating but not greasy at all just crispy and the fish was moist and flakey. The fries were ample and fresh. My husband got the Low Line salad packed with almonds, cranberries, roasted asparagus, quinoa, and hummus with a maple dressing. He added chicken for his protein. He throughly enjoyed it. Looking around at what other customers ordered it seemed like their portions were ample as well.

This is a pretty neat little hole in the wall. I chose to sit outside it was quiet for being so deep into downtown charelston. Parking is very limited I'd honestly encourage anyone wanting to eat here Uber or walk. This is a great place to visit and socialize i came in early and they do brunch/lunch then dinner starts at 2:30pm. The wedge salad was pretty good nothing out of the ordinary but it was tasty. The pasta i ordered was also basic. Just a ordinary vodka sauce, tomatoes and noodles. You'll have to pay extra for protein. Overall the price doesn't match what you are getting. Still an ok place.

4:30 cocktail, tortellini, and cheesecake were absolutely delicious! wish i'd snapped a pic of the cake but we dug in too quickly. fast service, amazing food, and our server was so sweet and personable. fun vibe and whoever was on aux had good music taste. will definitely be back when i return to charleston.

Google
Delicious food and cozy atmosphere. The server we had (Nick) was great, very attentive and personable. We got a table outside that let you smoke! Ended up getting the chicken pesto tortellini that was amazing. The apps we got were some of the tastiest food I've had in Charleston. 100% reccomend

Carmen Skoretz

Google
The BEST fried chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwich we've had! The fries were delicious too. We came here twice on our vacation because we enjoyed it so much.

Yelp
Brendan and Brian want you to have a great BF dining experience and are very hands on. And yes, we had TWO great BF dining experiences in the last two weeks. BF has a nice seating variety: indoor bar, outdoor patio, and (our fave) a house with multiple TVs. We sat in the middle (house) room and had both hoops and hockey on while we ate and drank. We love BF's menu. Sure, there are plenty of traditional bar choices (wings, burgers, sandwiches, cheese sticks, etc.), but BF punches them up a bit in both quality and presentation. Further, you can eat LATE (game changer). The full bar and speciality cocktails are simple and easy to understand/imagine (rare downtown). Servers are attentive and also want you to have a great experience. All fellas (and sports enthusiasts) were satisfied. Price point is perfect for downtown. We look forward to our next BF outing.

Yelp
Came in with the girlfriend Sunday afternoon. I truly appreciated the small, free parking lot, that's a really nice plus in Charleston! We ordered the short rib sliders as an appetizer, we both had the chef's breakfast, she got a salad, we both had coffees. All of the food was REALLY good! The salad was massive too, the rest of the food was well-portioned, not enough for you to be stuffed, not so small that you were hungry. The big issue was a bunch of little service items. Like the sliders for a starter came out after the main dishes. The coffees were tiny (and we weren't offered refills that I recall), didn't come with enough sugar packets until we asked, we had to ask for syrup for our pancakes, we had to ask for salt/pepper for the eggs... all of this stuff just adds up. Walking out of breakfast for 2 with a $92 tab (2 meals, salad, starter, 2 coffees, 1 alcoholic beverage) feels slightly stiff, and warrants better service... and real maple syrup. Other than these little dings - all of which are fairly easy to remedy - it's a solid choice. J.Ja

Yelp
The chicken picatta was fairly decent. Not so much for my espresso martini. We sat inside a room that was about the size of a small bedroom, and on each of the walls were large televisions on news/politics. Extremely unnecessary for such a small area especially since there's always one in your field of vision. Our server was very friendly though.

Yelp
We had dinner at this local restaurant and pub featuring live music, which was separate from the main house, since we ate lunch a little late. Of course Lisa did get a piece of the owner dad homemade cherry pie on the house for her birthday.
google avatar

Greg J.

Yelp
Had an early dinner on a Sunday. We asked to be seated inside so we were the only people seated in the house. After about 10 of seeing no one I went into the bar and asked if anyone knew we were in there. The server said no! After that she was very good. I they have extra speakers piping in would from a game that wasn't being shown in our room. Kinda annoying. I got the short rib pappardelle. It was excellent. Lots of meat and the edgy had just the right amount of heat. I would definitely recommend getting that! My wife ordered a cheeseburger well done. It came out medium at most. She thought it was good when it was recooked. She didn't think the fries were crispy enough. So a bit of a mixed experience, but I'm glad we went and would go again.

Yelp
After a day of tourism and checking in to our hotel, we began looking for places nearby to grab dinner. Bedford Falls came up as a less than ten minute walk. We were a bit on the early side of the dinner hour but I was surprised to find we were the only diners there. Our server was friendly and offered recommendations of places to go while in town. We split the deep fried asparagus which was delicious. I had the mac and cheese which was good and my sister did a fried chicken sandwich which came with very tasty fries. We enjoyed our time at this cute place and I'd recommend it to others in the area.

Yelp
This was a perfect stop for us tonight. We were sitted in the patio. The table was in the shade. Overhead fans were on, so it was pleasant and comfortable to relax. Our waitress Helena was lovely, kind, and attentive. We ordered appetizers, mean dishes, and drinks. Our little one said it was the best meal ever :) ( starter : chicken quesadilla ). I enjoyed my green salad with add on - shrimp. My husband ordered a cocktail- peach infused bourbon. He said it was really good. All the food was delicious. It's affordable and exactly what we were looking for tonight. Casual and relaxed vibe. One more additional- bathrooms were very clean , and I like it this way at the restaurants We highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Randomaly stumbled upon this place. My son had the wings and loved them. My husband had the biscuits and gravy. Could use more gravy. The mini donuts were also very good. Avacado toast was different. Lots of onions which I have a hard time eating. Small little place we sat outside on their side patio. Service was pretty normal nothing extravagant

Yelp
This was my second visit. Both were very good. The first time I was here for brunch and this time for dinner. Cute place with multiple rooms as well as outdoor seating with heaters. There's also a small parking lot which is very helpful in this part of Charleston where parking can be difficult and pricey. Both times I experienced excellent service. They do take reservations which I would recommend during peak times. The menu does change occasionally, which is nice. I don't recall what we are for brunch last time we were here but we enjoyed it. We also spoke with the next table and they had nothing but compliments. This time around we ordered the burrata salad and the burger. The burrata salad was very good but our least favorite. Nice portion of burrata but it wasn't as creamy as I like it. The burger was cooked exactly as ordered, medium rare, juicy and very tasty with a fresh bun. We asked for the fries to be well done and they were delicious and cooked exactly as we asked. Overall, one of the better burger experiences around. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
So glad we stopped here! When my group arrived to Charleston, we had a couple hours to kill before we could check into our Airbnb. This place was within walking distance to where we were staying, so we stopped for lunch. The server was so accommodating as we all had our luggage with us! After traveling all day, we were in need of some good food and drinks! If you are familiar with the movie "It's a Wonderful Life", this restaurant is named after the town in the movie. This was perfect as many of us were from Seneca Falls! My only negative comment was that the grilled chicken on my sandwich was a little dry, but the garlic aioli made up for it. Overall, great way to start our trip.

Yelp
Made a last minute reservation for brunch and there was plenty of availability, I have no idea why! This place was delicious! I had the biscuits and gravy that came with some fried chicken, it was so so good, I ate the whole thing! My husband had the bloody Mary and said it was tasty. The restaurant is in a converted house, the room we were in was really small which makes it a really intimate experience. The bar is in another part of the building that was not contiguous for us, but I think it's connected through the kitchen. Looking forward to going back to try lunch or dinner!

Yelp
The food was delicious - usually on major holidays, restaurant quality goes down a notch or two wherever you dine, but this meal and accompanying libations were impressive! The servers and bartenders were friendly and attentive. The ambience is a relaxed vibe due to the owners - Brandon and Brian - both being warm peeps and seeming genuinely happy in their own environment. Their love of food, music, and enjoyment of oneself truly transfers to their customers. Thank you both for an awesome evening!! Xx

Yelp
Reuben sandwich and handcut fries were delish!!!! Our server was very sweet but very busy - prices are reasonable and best of all they have a covered patio and an outside patio that's PET friendly It's kinda off the beaten path but well worth visiting !

Yelp
We arrived late off from our flight and wanted something quick to eat so we picked this place that's located right down the road from our Airbnb. Sat at the small bar that seats about 10 people and was greeted nicely by the bartender. Ordered a beer and some waters alongside our sandwiches. Fries were delicious and needed no salt and crispy as hell. The reuben sandwich was very tasty but a little thinner than usual. The chicken sandwich was on the sweeter side from the bbq sauce but very juicy and tasty as well. 10/10

Yelp
I met up with a friend during the week to try out the burgers at Bedford Falls. Had never been to the location before and the overall ambience was amazing. Such a cool dining experience just from the historical touches and really neat vibes both inside and outside. My friend and I both ordered burgers. I ordered mine medium well, and I will say it came out a little bit drier than I was hoping for. it was good quality, but it just seems that the dryness overtook the overall burger itself. My friend got his medium and he said it was a little bit more well-done than he had hoped. The fries were yummy. They had a really good seasoning to them. The burgers were well crafted and I'd be curious to come back during a busier time because maybe the food will be even better the second time around But overall, I'd recommend this spot for burgers, and especially overall vibes! And our waiter. Ethan was really attentive to our needs, and very kind!

Yelp
We ate at this quaint little pub style joint tonight and man was it amazing!! We read some reviews on the place before we went and decided to try it out and the reviews were spot on!! We had the Club sandwich also with the cheeseburger, fries, hot wings and an Oktoberfest beer (called The Holy City). All of the items were outstanding!! This is a must go to place if you are ever in Charleston!! Prices were very reasonable! We ate at some other highly recommended places a lot more pricey and the food didn't come close to what we had at this little joint. Thanks again to you and your staff, for a great experience and meal!!

Yelp
Fantastic food!!!!! One of the best meals I have ever had. Had the chicken piccata. Delicious! Service was awesome and what a warm and friendly atmosphere Will be back!!

Yelp
This place isn't much to look and but let me tell you the food was great and there is plenty of it. Staff very friendly and attentive

Yelp
With the sprinkling of new and upcoming dining establishments that are opening or have open in Charleston I am on a quest to try them all ~ one at a time! Tonight I decided to dine at Bedford Falls. I was intrigued by the historic-house setting and the fact that parking was on site was an great added addition. I did arrive early at around 4:00pm and the small lot was wide open. Owned by two brothers from NYC Bedford Falls has an Irish "pubby- like" atmosphere reminiscent of the taverns in olé' Ireland and Scotland. Bedford Falls is divided into two spaces and uses part of a Charleston single house as the dining room. The has large open bar has high top tables and there is also small covered "pet friendly" patio area. As we had our golden retriever along we chose the patio area where Tasha joyfully played with (but behaved herself) another pooch. The Caesar Salad was very good and included baby gem lettuce, bread crumbs and prosciutto. A little different. I added grilled chicken on and the meat was moist and tender and hot. Offering basic pub fare a little above the norm I would say Bedford Falls is worth a visit for the food and for the environment!

Yelp
Food was good for bar food. Great atmosphere and the bartenders were very friendly. Def worth walking to from the Limited hotel

Yelp
Quiet and a bit off the main drag. The food and drinks are great. We enjoyed brunch and fell like the only people there. If it is slow, Just East at the bar.

Yelp
Great place. The food was amazing! Service was also. The place is a great taste of Charleston. The look, the feel, and the seating. We all loved it.

Yelp
Wonderful experience! The food was AMAZING and the staff was just as great! So happy we found our way to Bedford Falls

Yelp
Checked out Bedford Falls for my first time and was not disappointed by the amount and quality of the food. They have a menu that caters to comfort but has a variety to choose from. We were able to snag parking in their small lot and walked into the bar area. To be honest we thought this was the only dining/seating area (also it was raining to their patio was tan option) so we grabbed seating at the wall of the bar. I wish someone from the establishment greeted us and let us know there actually was an inside dining area not attached to the bar (why they lost a star for me). The food was delicious, came out quick, the server attending to us was nice and overall we enjoyed the experience. We will definitely be back for food and drinks!

Jewel L.

Yelp
We arrived in Charleston last night - we asked our valet to suggest a good restaurant near by and he suggested Bedford Falls Resturant. Great choice. The service and food were great. The fries were homemade and they were delicious. Miguel our server welcomed us to Charleston and gave us some great tips of things to do and see while we are here. Go check out Bedford Falls Resturant- a cozy restaurant. Bedford Falls - "It's A Wonderful Life" check out the pictures. Jewel and Russell

Yelp
My husband and I went here for drinks and stayed for dinner. We really like this bar's atmosphere. It is like going to your local. Bartender is friendly and we met some really nice people while we were there. I had a salad which was fresh and tasted delicious. We would definitely go back and continue to recommend it to others. Good value, food, service, drinks and atmosphere.

Doy D.

Yelp
Because we travel with our dog, we don't usually have the luxury of dining in house at a restaurant. So we got a to-go order from BF, which is sometimes is an iffy proposition! But this meal was delicious! Hubs ordered the fried chicken sandwich with peanut dressing coleslaw. It was as good as the picture makes it look! The hand-cut fries were great! I ordered the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe (they had me at bucatini!). Since it's such a nuanced, precise preparation, I worried how it would translate when not served directly to the table. Not to worry! It was amaaaazing, and there was enough to have lunch (both of us) the next day. My only comment, and not a complaint, is that it would be nice to have even a slice or two of bread to eat with the pasta! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend BF in a city stock-full of restaurants of every kind!
google avatar

Deb P.

Yelp
We enjoyed it here but food is very heavy which we are not quite used to. Lots of butter and oils. I got the Ruben which was good and hubby got the burger. Good but very heavy!
google avatar

Becca P.

Yelp
Food was delicious and services was very quick and attentive. Restaurant and bar are very beautiful. Even the parking lot is a great place for photos. Only reason for not giving them 5 stars is maybe too many different flavors trying to be mashed together in the entrees.
google avatar

Marilyn A.

Yelp
Nice little spot. Good food and drinks. Open late. Out of all the places we ate when visiting for just a couple of days, this spot was my favorite. Will come back again!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Food was delicious - great options for our pescatarian and the rest of us! Nice place to eat near our hotel after walking Charleston all afternoon. The tables were tight but we met some nice people :)
google avatar

Yelp
What a great little find! Met a friend for lunch here. Nice to have a small parking lot attached. Sat at the bar and the bartender/ server was super nice. We both ordered the Cuban Sandwich- sorry, we were busy talking and didn't take pictures. The sandwich was really good- had to take half home, it was so big. The place has such a nice relaxing vibe. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Such a quaint looking establishment when I walked up, I almost thought it was someone's actual home still. We sat on the far right building that was more of the bar/patio seating because it was such a nice day outside. They had lots of fans, I think I even saw some outdoor heaters available and clean tables about. We were promptly seated and greeted with menus and waters. For an early lunch, I ordered the BBQ chicken wings after our waiter informed us that the BBQ sauce and ranch were both made in house. I'm not the biggest fan of BBQ flavored things because they tend to lack depth in taste, THESE WINGS WERE SOLID! Cooked perfectly, the sauce was absolute perfection and the ranch was yummy as well. I did get a chance to taste the chicken from my friends order of chicken and gravy and it was delicious. He raved about this chicken and gravy so much that I just knew it would be some regular ol' chicken and gravy but it was not. I feel like I got a hint of some kind of sweet like sauce on it and it went perfectly with the seasoning and breading of the chicken. I so wish I remembered the name of our waiter he was absolutely amazing. I did order the passion fruit margarita for my drink and I feel like it could've tasted more fruity like passion fruit but it was still a good margarita. Love that their shot of Don Julio was so reasonably priced.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
This is one of the best burgers in town. And when you combine that with great fries, house made ranch, and a very reasonable price point ($18 for cheeseburger and fries) this should be on anyone's short list. In addition Rossa is a fantastic bartender.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere and yummy food set in a historic home located in downtown Charleston. Enjoyed the pulled pork nachos while watching the game (did we mention they have TONS of TVs) - delish flavor and spice on the chips. Good spot for a pre dinner cocktail or late night night cap. It's run by former New York bar owners who know how to treat customers and pour stiff drinks. Highly recommend you stop by.

James J.

Yelp
We recently spent a long weekend in Charleston and ate at several restaurants - some high end places, some more pub like. Bedford falls was the place I continue to think about when thinking about coming back to the area. It's a small pub-ish type place, but the food was outstanding. Croquettes were solid. Burgers are great and the shrimp tacos are perhaps the best fish tacos I've ever had. Bartender was attentive. Reasonably priced and casual, this is a great place to stop in for a bite. I regret now we didn't eat there again before leaving.
google avatar

Vas K.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service. Our group of 6 thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Highly recommend this new addition to Charleston.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Owners are amazing! Food great , service outstanding.... Great place to watch an afternoon football game!!!!
google avatar

Dina F.

Yelp
I passed through and hung out at the bar for a short time. The bartender Rasah (sp) was great. We had a great laugh about the questions of the Apollo Creed photo at the bar lol. It's a very nice spot, from the drinks to the food! I went around 5pm so it was early but I definitely recommend the asparagus fries and the short rib sliders .

Spencer F.

Yelp
Used to live down the street from here and I still come back every time I visit Charleston. Can always count on good service and the Bedford Burger and Fried Chicken Sandwich are some of the best in town Just had it again today and food was still great. Also noticed they remodeled their bathrooms. Owners are great guys too
google avatar

Yelp
The Hungry Detective found this diamond in the rough tucked away off Meeting St...super cool vibe and you park outside the front door!!! Kat the bartender was on point and makes a wicked good cucumber gimlet!!! Kat is a rockstar and I will return to see her and try something new. The wings were cooked to perfection and I will try the burger on my next visit. VERDICT: Guilty of creating a super cool spot to enjoy The British Open and baseball games and more!!! My new favorite spot!!!

Mario M.

Yelp
The food was good. My son had his first chicken sandwich with jalapeños. He is no longer a child; he's a man. The Bedford Club was delicioso.
google avatar

Neil F.

Yelp
Avoid during college football season. I am annoyed as the food was good but I was charged $10 per person reservation fee expecting a nice meal as per the website. Instead there was no host, no server to greet you but instead a loud Alabama football fan who had organized a meet up. We left after 45 minutes due to the number of elephant noises. Never got my deposit back. IF they had told me it wasn't suitable for a birthday meal i would have booked another night.

Adrian O.

Yelp
Talk about a great time with amazing eats and even better hospitality. The gang at Bedford Falls are just stellar! Bar tender Roscoe is a top notch lad and the owner Brendan made us feel right at home. Can't say enough about the food...just perfection. Try the Fried Chicken Sandwich! Hands down a place to visit if you are in town.
google avatar

Sydney B.

Yelp
I hands down love Bedford Falls. Favorite spot on the Penninsula! The burger, burrata and milk and cookies are my drool worthy hands down favorite items. Espresso martini and calamari also really good. Brian is so nice and place is just awesome. Can't stop won't stop going back. Indoor and outdoor seating. TVs to watch the games. But Monday sports night following. Parking is limited in front but public parking one block down. It's honestly my favorite local spot. #bergerknowsbest

Brian W.

Yelp
Ate here tonight. Good service. Small restaurant side. Had some pasta and a sandwich. Nothing wrong with it. Nothing great. Probably a good local place, but way better places in CHS.
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
Cool place to grab a beer and burger. You walk in and there is a bar and the dining room opens to half indoor/outdoor dining. Place wasn't packed but my friend and I were both hungry. I ordered the Holy City beer and my friend ordered the freosa which was the frozen rose. She seemed to like it even though it melted very quickly. We shared the calamari fries which was delicious and had the burger and fries. The fries were crisp and the burger was definitely better than what I have had in Maryland. The service was okay but could have been better. The waitress could have offered us another round of drinks. It wasn't super busy there but I did notice the waitress was also the bartender and the other bartender bought us our entrees and bused the tables. All in all, we had a pretty decent meal that didn't break the bank.

Yelp
What a great spot! Visiting Charleston for a couple nights with our Labrador and this place was very pet friendly. They happily accommodated us on the patio with a space heater. Amazing service from the waitress who loved our dog and the manager who checked in on us. I had the Turkey/cranberry burger and wife had the Rigatoni both were amazing. The fries are some of the best I've had. I def recommend this spot if your staying in historic Charleston with your pup!

Melissa E.

Yelp
Love the black/white modern design and wood decor. The place has a great vibe and the burger, cuban, fries and donuts were fantastic. Owner is super nice, along with the wait staff. Prices were good. They have sports on the TVs and $7 beers, so my husband was happy. Will definitely be going back.
