IT'S A WONDERFUL (bar) LIFE!
Yes, I cannot believe that I'm the first Yelp'er to make that movie reference! {patting myself on the back}
Our networking group of writers, filmmakers, and other content creators recently held an event there for over 50 people, and the bar and staff could not have been better!!!
And yes, I can agree with Zachary S's post (2/28/2016) that this bar doesn't reach the elevated status of a gastropub. But that's a GREAT thing! Because I don't really want a bar crowded with people who would actually use my own phrase of "elevated status of a gastropub"!!!
If you take two steps inside Bedford Falls, you would not get the full effect. It would be like watching the first two minutes of the voiceover narration in the movie "It's A Wonderful Life" and thinking to yourself: "Is this really what everyone is raving about???"
The front bar is cozy, and the staff always greets you...as friend or stranger. But make your way toward the back, and that's where you begin to understand how this bar is different than your stereotypical dive bar. The back room on the right has a wonderful lounge feel to it, and there's a great back patio (which I'm hating myself as I type that...because now other people will know about it when I hang out there with my friends after a Central Park afternoon).
The manager Brendan, and his floor servers Ryan and Brian, were quick, patient, and accommodating to our whole group. The food menu had a lot of attractive treats, and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get the brussel sprouts with my Bedford burger & tater tots. Great happy hour specials...even on the weekend.
If you actually want a bar to hang out with friends, but actually get to hear your friends speaking, then Bedford Falls is better than the loud crowds at The Penrose or Stumble Inn. For our private group, the staff even turned off the music and TV audio in our back room so that we could talk more readily...which thrilled my crowd.
Unassuming, yet impactful, just like George Bailey (to you millennial readers, that's Jimmy Stewart!)
