How to Spend a Weekend Exploring Sleepy Hollow, New York's Stately Manors, Historic Cemeteries, and Stylish Restaurants

"Bedford Post Inn is a Relais & Chateaux property with only eight guest rooms, all with Frette linens and many with working fireplaces. There are also three restaurants which are worth the drive alone: casual The Barn with southern French cuisine, The Terrace’s seasonal food from its wood-burning oven, and the elegant contemporary American menu at The Farmhouse."

We got married in Bedford and chose to stay at the Bedford Post Inn with our out-of-town family. We also hosted our Welcome Party there couldn't have been happier! The drinks and food were delicious and the staff attentive. They set up a beautiful vibe on the patio and helped us with AV equipment for speeches / slide shows. They even had a bonfire for s'mores which our guests loved. They also accommodated a small rehearsal dinner for our families ahead of the Welcome Party which was just as exquisite. Paige from Sunday Hospitality was a pleasure to work with, as was Susan the Inn manager. The rooms are pricey but luxurious, and we felt taken care of like family all weekend. The property is beautiful and was perfect for our wedding photos. Thank you to the Bedford Post Inn team for making our wedding weekend so magical!

The Tavern at Bedford Post Inn continues to deliver mediocre food and beyond terrible service. The beautiful location masks a disorganized cabal of poorly trained employees, rude management and an overwhelmed kitchen that cannot even produce the correct temperature of their $33 burger which may be the most expensive in Westchester. We had to send back our fries because they were undercooked and soggy. Aren't these on a timer??? Last night we waited +20 minutes before our first drinks were finally served, then the food was delivered almost an hour after that. Unacceptable. The joke at the table was we could not get enough bread to finish the fois gras we ordered. After multiple requests over 15 minutes to our wait staff, a manager threw down a bowl of stale, crusted bread pieces that suspiciously looked like the salad croutons they served. The excuse was the kitchen and bar are overwhelmed.....This dumpster fire of poor service, an over burdened kitchen and forgettable food falls directly on the arrogant and aloof management team that cares more about turning tables than producing a high quality dining experience. I have been here 5 or 6 times and it's always the same bad experience. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for dinner unless poor service and below average food is what you are looking for. I am so done with this place - never again.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about the Barn, the Tavern, and the Inn at the Bedford Post Inn! Every visit to the Tavern is an experience—special shout out to Sunny and Nelson, who consistently go above and beyond to make each brunch and dinner memorable. The food is always spectacular, and the ambiance is unmatched: lush and vibrant in spring, cozy and romantic in the fall with the fire pits and changing leaves. It’s a magical place year-round. We were lucky enough to host our wedding at the Bedford Post Inn in September 2024, and it was truly a dream come true. Thank you to Amanda, Susan, Sunny, Nelson, and Paige for making it all possible. The Loft and Zen Garden were absolutely stunning, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about the beauty of the setting and the quality of the food and service. When we first considered Bedford Post in early spring 2024, the new spaces were still coming together, and we hadn’t yet tasted the food—so committing to our wedding there felt like a leap of faith. But Sunny took the time to walk us through every detail and gave us total confidence in the vision. Paige made sure we were fully present and able to enjoy every moment of our day, while quietly and flawlessly executing everything behind the scenes. Amanda and Sunny helped us design an incredible food and beverage menu, and Nelson brought it all to life with effortless, professional precision. Susan and the Inn team made us feel cared for from start to finish, delivering white-glove service from our getting-ready suite to the very end of the night. We’re filled with gratitude for the unforgettable memories—and now, Bedford Post is forever a part of our family story. Every visit lets us relive our wedding day, and we can’t wait to return for future anniversaries and celebrations.

We recently celebrated my mom’s birthday at the Bedford Post Inn, and I can’t say enough good things about the experience—especially thanks to our amazing waitress, Nadine. From the moment we arrived, she made my mom feel truly special. Nadine was not only incredibly attentive and professional, but also genuinely kind and thoughtful. She went above and beyond to make the day memorable, adding personal touches and making sure every detail was perfect. Her warmth and positive energy added so much to the atmosphere—it felt like we were being hosted by a close friend who truly cared. It’s rare to come across someone who elevates a dining experience the way Nadine did. We’ll absolutely be back, and we’ll be hoping to see her again. Thank you, Nadine, for making my mom’s birthday unforgettable!

The Bedford Post Inn is a place where the ghosts of colonial mailmen and the scent of avocado toast mingle in the morning air. Built in 1762 as a stagecoach stop, this eight-room inn now offers Frette linens, heated marble floors, and a yoga loft in the barn. Richard Gere co-owns the place, and his touch is evident in the serene ambiance and community-focused events. The inn’s restaurant, the Bedford Post Tavern, serves dishes like lobster frites and beet au poivre, crafted by Chef Sam Mason. The menu reflects a blend of rustic charm and modern sophistication. The inn is a Relais & Châteaux property, emphasizing personalized service and culinary excellence. Amenities include Bang & Olufsen speakers, Dyson hairdryers, and complimentary local snacks. If you’re seeking a blend of history, luxury, and a touch of Hollywood, the Bedford Post Inn offers a unique retreat.

Google
10/10 highly recommend. My new husband and I stayed at the Inn for our mini moon and our stay couldn’t be more wonderful. From the rooms to the service, the Inn is exactly what we expected - a cute bed and breakfast atmosphere with the level of service and quality you would expect from a Relais & Chateaux property. We actually saw all the rooms and you really can’t go wrong - different sizes but all extremely nice and perfectly cozy. The service was IMPECCABLE - everyone was beyond friendly and nice but not at all overbearing. We will definitely be going back soon!

Google
For most part excellent hotel - high quality rooms, dining, and atmosphere. For the >$1000 night price point, they should make sure there is room for guest parking (they book a lot of events over weekend and each time you drive onto property, you have to remind them you are staying at hotel - parking badge perhaps?). They should also offer to help with bags (we had to park far away and carry our bags over gravel because they won't roll over this ground). Regardless, 10/10 food, atmosphere, and service by staff aside from the aforementioned issues. Update - hotel reached out and addressed concern. I’m sure they will continue to get better. Lovely staff and we left something behind which they shipped to us!! We will be back!

Great food and standout desserts! The menu changes often but the favorites remain. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
My partner and I came for drinks one night at the bar. We had the best experience ever. Rogelio, the bartender, was amazing! My mom, who has since past, used to love this place, and it felt so magical to be taken care so well here. It was truly a gift from heaven!!

Michael T.

Yelp
Never a bad meal or lacking ambience. A real treat for a special occasion or just an evening out when you want to feel spoiled and miles away from the hustle and bustle of crowded city restaurant rows.

Yelp
We went for brunch last Sunday. Our server, Georgina was wonderful. Always available and friendly. The buffet was impressive; raw bar, omelette station, fresh pastries, fresh juices. BUT--coffees and other drinks extra. For $78/pp I would expect coffee and a mimosa or Bloody Mary. Maybe?!

Alyssa C.

Yelp
We had brunch here recently and were seated right away. We waited at least 20 minutes with zero service-not even water. We asked the hostess to at least take our drink orders as our table had not been attended to. The waiter then blamed the other waiter. The latte took another 20 minutes to be ready. The food was hardly edible. Just didn't taste good. For an inn that charges an absurdly expensive rate per night, this experience was beyond disturbing.

Steven K.

Yelp
Simply wonderful; deserving of its Relais status. Susan, the GM, and her ally, Patty, are responsible for creating an extraordinary guest experience. I wish the restaurant were a bit less boisterous and that the parking lot was better lit, but these are inconsequential quibbles

Emelyn M.

Yelp
We had a great night here! Restaurant was busy, we had a reservation and were sat right on time. The service was great- food was very tasty. We had the onion tart, popovers, pappardelle and steak. Will absolutely be back!

Yelp
Tried it for the first time; I wouldn't come back. They have no paper menus, which would have been fine if their wifi was easy to connect to for the online menu (wifi was hard to use, and it required providing an email just to connect). The servers had to lend their phones just for us to order. We got the mushroom pasta and scallops for entrees. While they were not bad per se, they weren't highly recommended either. $37 for a 3-piece scallop dish, and the flavors didn't combine well. The scallops were not seared well, and while served with honeydew and arugula, resulted in a clash of sweet, bitter and salty flavors. We had to get Burger King after dinner.

Anne P.

Yelp
Four of us went for brunch-two ordered the smoked salmon plates while another had sunny side eggs. When our dishes arrived they each had a very small piece of bread- hardly enough to accompany our food. We asked for more bread and our server brought two more small slices for the 3 of us. Again we asked for more and after a long wait she came over with two more small pieces. Soon after the hostess came over and asked if we were the people eating up all the kitchen's bread and making us feel guilty for asking. She suggested we go to their bakery to buy their bread. Honestly, even with the extra bread it wasn't enough for the eggs and salmon. And to add more insult we were charged an extra $14 for four 2"x 5" pieces of bread. Although the food was good we will not be going back.

Yelp
I was a little weary to stay here because of the mediocre reviews, but this past Friday night my husband and I stayed here for a night and visited The Barn for dinner. My experience was that the Inn was lovely. Zach was very helpful and check in was smooth. The room was extremely clean and decorated beautifully. Breakfast was a little small but we don't eat large breakfast meals anyway. All in all a very nice time. The restaurant (The Barn) was great, but the service was a little slow - but what service isn't these days post-2020. A very nice short getaway and I'd come back.

Yelp
Was unimpressed and underwhelmed. Emailed manager Julia twice to voice my concerns and not even a reply. We were literally the only guests at the Inn and she couldn't be bothered. This is a Relain and Chateaux property, it is disgraceful since they pride themselves on service

Karol B.

Yelp
i love the Bedford Post because I have such great memories of our daughter getting married there. Love the atmosphere and love the food. However, not being able to look at a paper menu takes the Post off one of my "most favorite" places. Glancing through a paper menu is part of the experience that i want to have when i go there. To ask people to scan a bar code takes all the ambiance out of picking your meal. Please bring real menus back and if people want to scan a bar code give them that option as well.

Yelp
Fantastic food, terrible service. This is a beautiful property and very well known in the area but my last experience on 9/25/21 was really bad, for what they charge they should provide a remarkable customer service. They act like their shit doesn't stink, I'll never go here again. Explore better options and save your $$$...

Yelp
We ate at The Barn in a pergola covered outdoor terrace with heat lamps and it was a crisp autumn day.The indoor seating was packed and fragrant . We had mimosas at the bar while awaiting our table. The food was excellent. I had a brunch dish, home made savory biscuits with egg, bacon cubes and bacon jam over a tangy bed of greens. DELIGHTFUL! My companion had a mouth watering hamburger with a brioche bun and the wait staff was cordial and attentive. Try this gem.

Yelp
one of the worst dining experiences we have had in a long time. First of all, we are very close neighbors to the Inn and have been wanting it to be successful for a long time. We want it to be our go-to place. On Sunday we booked dinner at The Barn. We were sat upstairs, you have two or three too many tables up there, we were at a two-top near the window, and the back of a gentleman on a four top was almost touching our table, we couldn't speak comfortably because they would of been part of our conversation, and in fact we were sat so close to them all we could hear was their conversation. You also have too many light large fixtures up there, it's claustrophobic. Anyway.... We ordered two shooters. Tasty but tiny. We then ordered Steak Frites and the Cod. We waited an eternity, water ran dry, no one checked on us. When the food came it was stone cold, the cod was served with a plate of cheap vegetables. The steak frite was chopped up with salad on top and and zero sign of any poivre sauce, I asked where it was and was told it was in the dish. If someone orders a classic meal, they want it served in a classic way - go to Odeon, Balthazar or Pastis, they are popular for a reason. The steak was also mushy. My wife didn't even touch the cod it was stone cold. No-one asked if we liked it, or were happy, the waiter just asked if we were done 30 mins later and we got the check and left. Massively disappointed in the experience. Your location and the lack of any competition means you could be really easily successful but your are failing to deliver food or service of any sufficient quality.

Yelp
The rooms here are small. TV is the size of a computer screen, in fact it is a computer that used Google Firefox. It is not at the level of most Relais Chateaus. In fact, in the many Relais Chateaus we have stayed at, this may be at the bottom. At $700 a night the price is steep for a small standard room. The service in fine. Heated floors in the bathroom are a nice touch. The bathroom itself is large with a nice sized shower with good water pressure. Snacks and non-alcoholic are provided 24 hours a day. You receive charcuterie and wine in the evening. All nice touches.

Yelp
BEWARE NEW MANAGEMENT We ate at this restaurant a couple of years ago, the food and service were wonderful. Apparently the establishment has changed owners, because our experience this time was terrible. The lady with red hair at the front desk as you walk in needs additional customer service training. We were told over the phone there would be a $35 charge for a pre-fix menu for children, when the bill came we were charged $85 for a nine year old who at barely anything. When we asked the front desk lady with told us "our menu has been up for weeks there was no children's price" and continued to argue with us that we somehow should have known there was no children's price despite being told misinformation over the phone. Even if we were incorrect there IS a polite way to say it, clearly this lady does not know how to speak to people let alone guests! She continued to argue with us in ear shot of guests who were turning their heads to see what the commotion was about, and when she did not want to speak with us any longer waved us off to someone else and yelled "can you speak to these WOMEN?!". What an embarrassment to this restaurant! We were later told that she is co-owner?! God help this restaurant if she actually owns a stake in the place, if this is how she is going to treat guests this restaurant is not going to survive. In addition to the above, some of the food came old cold and was not impressive at all. We had a good time a couple of years ago but will not be going back which is a shame because we live in the area.

Yelp
My husband and I just spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our time in this very peaceful, charming and delightful inn. Our room was very very nice, quiet and spacious with a fireplace, cute balcony and gorgeous marble bathroom with a soaking tub, large shower and separate room for the toilet. We cannot say enough about the staff who were all so friendly and courteous. We dined at both restaurants each day. The Barn for lunch and the Farmhouse for dinner. For lunch, the chopped salad, avocado toast, collard green wrap, and chicken with mango were all delicious. For dinner, the halibut was our favorite, and the duck pate, and the artichoke appetizers are not to be missed. George the maitre'd and his entire staff were all so friendly, attentive and professional. As a result, our dining experiences were all truly exceptional and we can't thank them enough. Overall, I would have liked to give the inn 5 stars, but for our personal tastes, we would have liked it more if the grounds were bigger with more to offer as my husband would have liked a fitness area (aside from yoga) and I would have liked more area to walk around for scenic views (there were walking trails but they happen to not be cleared well enough for a hike). However there are several areas a short drive away that we did enjoy.

Yelp
Went for dinner 1/8/22 with another couple and a reservation in hand made a month prior. It was 18F outside and the table we were given was immediately in the draft-way of the busy front door, the opening and closing of which waved in whirlwinds of frigid air. We asked for a different table and were told we were rude for making the request; instead we were told we could dine outside. It was 18F! The only person outside was Bernie Sanders in his Inauguration Day costume. I incredulously asked the hostess if she way joking, to which she took objection and ordered us to leave the restaurant. We won't be darkening that drafty door again but certainly will tell the story about the restaurant so successful that the hostess orders new clients to leave.

Yelp
My wife and I coordinated a prewedding Brunch buffet at The Farm House Restaurant for our son and future daughter-in-law and about 70 guests this past Saturday afternoon with Anna ( the events coordinator). The event went flawlessly! Every detail was attended to by Anna and her staff. The food was delicious. The presentation perfect and the specialty cakes not only looked beautiful but had people asking where they came from ( made in house!). Anna had everything prepared a hour before the event and met the florist to place the arrangements. The service staff was professional and made sure everyone was well taken care of with drinks, water and coffee. I would not hesitate to host another party in The Farm House Restaurant of the BPI.

Christina M.

Yelp
My family and I dropped in for cocktails and a few bites. Hector, the bartender was amazing; very kind, knowledgeable, and one of the best mixologists we've ever encountered. Our drinks were beautiful and delish! The appetizer order of lobster rangoon, blooming onion, and the tarte flambé did not disappoint. They were oh so good! We'll be back for sure!

Yelp
The Barn: Incredible. Spectacular. Authentic. Highly recommend The Barn at the Bedford Post Inn. Ranging from the customer service, to the food, to the wine list and beyond, everything was wonderful. We have shared this with our family, friends and network.

Eva K.

Yelp
This inn says it is a Relais and Chateau but I cannot imagine why. Room is most ordinary. There is a paltry lobby and not much else. Yoga is fine. The breakfast is appalling. First day it was this horrible yoghurt, a scone and coffee in a paper cup which one could make oneself. Next day this very sad croissant. Third day scones again but only one cup of coffee. I asked for body lotion but it never came. Reception staff is friendly. At $150.00-$200.00 it would be fine. At $650 it is highway robbery. There is no spa and no pool. Restaurant is separate, not part of the inn. The worst value i've ever experienced.

Yelp
We ate at the Farmhouse in 2018 for our last meal before our first child was born. I remember that the food was excellent, and the wine cellar stocked Brunello from Stella di Campalto, who is a top notch minor producer. Even ran into some friends from my city club, who were out for a night in the "country". Can't wait for the Farmhouse to reopen!

Yelp
PERFECTION - there is no other word to describe our experience at the Bedford Post Inn. Planning our daughter's Bridal Shower Sunday Brunch was made easy from the very beginning by our BPI Events person, Anna. She has great communication skills, is detail oriented, and was always positive and creative in turning our visions into reality. The room in the farm house was the perfect size for our guests, with a wall of big windows, a side porch with two French doors and a charming rustic pergola. Every view was beautiful green with bursts of colorful flowers. The bride's attendants were invited to take photos on the bucolic grounds of the Inn. What a beautiful, peaceful venue. Everyone enjoyed the large variety of delicious choices at the vegetarian buffet. Anna liaison with the chef to offer classic brunch selections as well as unique contemporary options. Every guest commented on the quality and lusciousness of the food. The waitstaff were very attentive, courteous, and responsive to any request. Glasses were filled, plates removed, cutlery appeared, and coffee and cake served by a considerate and professional staff. All of the BPI employees were proactive in offering suggestions or asking if we needed help, i.e.; setting up a gift table, and immediately went into action to make it happen. Their efforts made our event flawless. Friends and family told us that they have never been to a better bridal shower. (I know, I know, but they could have just said it was "nice".) Our daughter's day was PERFECT, and I thank everyone at the Bedford Post Inn for making it happen.

Yelp
Sometimes, you just have to trust in your first impression. My first impression of the food here is 'mediocrity'. The cappuccino was bland, tasteless and lukewarm. The eggs on my Benedict (and another's at my table) were cooked through solid (see photo). The Dutch apple pancake was weirdly 'cake' and no 'pan'. One diner's gluten-free order arrived on an English Muffin. The hostesses demeanor was, for lack of a better description - odd. I could elaborate, but I won't. Positive elements include the attractive room, a good sticky bun, and the opportunity to ogle the vintage Aston Martin parked display-style out front.

Yelp
Something is wrong here organizationally. I wanted to reserve a table for 12 guests for a post Baptism brunch at the Barn and made a reservation and was told there were no minimums. Then Anna reached out to me via email and said it needed to be a pre fix menu for $40/pp which was fine with us and we agreed. Then days later Kelly called to update me it would be a $1,500 minimum with a $150 fee to reserve the Chef's table as that was the only spot they could seat us. I asked why I got an email with very different information and she asked me to forward it along. I did so, and asked another question, and received no response. Terrible service and not at all what I'd expect from a Relais Chateaux property. I have stayed at many RC properties across the world and never experienced anything like this. It was their mistake and they should be trying to correct it. Additionally, on Dec 5th we stopped in for dinner after our Baptism class and there was an extremely intoxicated man in the parking lot screaming Anti Semitic obscenities. I don't know what's going on with this place but the new management needs to pull it together.

Yelp
Finally made it. It was on my top list yet I took so darn long to get there. And, it's a Relais & Chateaux so shame on me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE R&C - they are my favorite places on the Earth. Only went for lunch at the Barn but it was lovely, exquisite and civilized. Driving onto the property you definitely feel as if you are on a R&C property. They all exude such a lovely vibe. They are all ineffable. Three of us had a variety of salads, fries, wines and desserts. How can it get better than that, right? You had me at buttery, oaky California chardonnay! Can't wait to go back for a luxurious dinner.

Yelp
The West Village comes to Westchester County; or is it the other way around? In any event, if you're urban-oriented with an appreciation for the best of rustic New Englandesque suburbia [and we're talking upper-middle class and above] you'll love the Bedford Post Inn for a relaxed and thoughtfully prepared and presented brunch. I did. I wasn't sure what to expect on the windy drive to the Inn and my first encounter was valet parking. But the lot is small, the staff is friendly and the car was professionally parked just feet from where I abandoned it. Inside the warm inviting 'barn' is a small coffee counter and spread of baked goods. Tables for 2, 4 and more were filled with healthy and well attired locals enjoying their $15 egg plates and $4 glasses of fresh squeezed oj. But the staff was friendly and accommodating for a couple who failed to make reservations even though we thought it might be a good idea. We had a table inside of ten minutes and the food hit the table within 20. Eggs were delicious; quiche was delicious - coffee was very good. A wood fire burned on one end of the restaurant, everyone was relaxed, friendly and accommodating. The grounds are pretty and the overall experience positive. Worth a trip? I'd say yes.

Yelp
We took Kelli here for her birthday last month. Beautiful facility, fantastic food and very gracious hosting. Apparently it's owned by that guy who was in American Gigolo back in the 80s. There's also a Yoga Studio and Bed and Breakfast on the grounds. Would have been perfect had we drawn a waiter other than Mr. DIsgruntled Chip on His Shoulder Lit Major Who Hates People that Dine at Expensive Restaurants. Dude, we ALL worked in the service industry when we were EXACTLY your age: DEAL. Also, a French 75 does not have scotch in it. Didn't they teach you that a clown college?

Yelp
5 stars all the way! My fiancè and I just had the most amazing meal of our lives here. Those complaining about small portions for a high price, it's fine dining. Deal with it or go somewhere you can afford. Every plate was expertly executed. Flavors were perfectly balanced. And the staff were true professionals. From the cocktails to the app, to the pasta, to the entree and finally dessert I couldn't have asked for a more perfect meal with the most beautiful fiancè a man could ask for. My thanks to the chef for a perfect meal and to the staff for a great experience! Best of all, Martha Stewart was dining at the table next to us... :-)

Yelp
Made a reservation two days in advanced they tried to sit us out side in 10 degree weather and refused to accommodate us.

Yelp
I had never been to a bed and breakfast before, so when my boyfriend surprised me with one for Christmas, I was really excited. I must say, It was absolutely perfect. Bedford is only about 45 minutes outside of Manhattan, so we wasted hardly any time in travel. Once we arrived in Bedford, it was as though we travelled to a different time. It's the quaintest, most ethereal little town. On top of that, it was covered in a blanket of snow- such a glorious winter wonderland! Once we arrived, Jackie at the front desk warmly welcomed us and showed us to our room. The room was gorgeous and the epitome of relaxation, complete with a fireplace, terrace, and standalone soaking tub. We had dinner at the Farmhouse our first night, and it was divine. A cozy table by the fire was the perfect touch. Our server, John, was so knowledgeable and kind. Peter was the sweetest manager, ensuring we were completely cared for. We finished dinner with a couple of scotches beside the outdoor fireplace with cuddly blankets. It's clear to me that Oscar Henquet, the general manager, is perpetuating a pretty smooth operation. Well done, sir. This was the most incredible mini vacation. Anyone who lives in New York City knows that sometimes you just need to escape the intensity to recharge your batteries. I feel like I eluded a few wrinkles just by taking a couple of days to decompress! Thank you to the gracious and hospitable staff at the Bedford Post Inn for creating the most unforgettable getaway! We will definitely be back soon. My fellow New Yorkers, if you need a quick dose of R&R, I feel confident in recommending this serene, romantic hideaway.

Yelp
Update: This is my 2nd time at the Barn. Last time, I gave 3 stars because while the brunch food was good, it was a little cold. Today I was pleasantly surprised. It was a cold and rainy day, and we were seated right next to the warm fireplace. I ordered two poached eggs atop creamy polenta. It was delicious (and hot!). I love the organic coffees and teas there, and despite the waitress forgetting to bring my side order of bacon, I was happy. I was better off without the $5 bacon anyway, and she took it off the bill. I wish I could give 3.5 stars but... Yelp doesn't like 1/2 stars I guess.

Yelp
Such an amazing place. My husband and I stayed here for a much needed weekend away from the city and had an amazing time. The inn only has 8 rooms and equipped with everything you would expect out of a Relais and Chateau property. It was the perfect weekend getaway from the city.

Yelp
Booked a few weeks in advance for our anniversary dinner only to have our reservation cancelled the day before. Very nice guys.

Yelp
I was unsuccessful in making a reservation for a party of 7 online so I decided to drive the short distance from my home to make a reservation in person. The executive chef, Roxanne Spruance, was incredibly rude and told me she didn't think they had a table large enough for our group yet she never checked her reservations to confirm this. The outdoor dinning space is lovely and the food is fairly good but the rude chef makes it unappealing to go back.

Yelp
Tried it again after several years. Not a great experience. Maybe they're still getting their legs under them post-pandemic, I hope so. So underwhelming (and overpriced for the service/quality/presentation) that I'll only mention the "baguette" appetizer ($7) which was literally about 5" (6 thin slices) of decidedly ordinary bread. Reminded me of Stonehenge in Spinal Tap.

Yelp
Love. Love. Love We checked in yesterday at noon and were accommodated as we were to early. We went right to the "barn" and had an amazing lunch. Barn burger and Tuna melt with a few glasses of a wonderful California Chardonnay. Later we went to a wine tasting in the "cellar". After a wonderful nap in a pillow soft mattress, we awoke and went downstairs and sat by the fire as our table at "the farmhouse" was being set. Farmhouse is an outstanding dining experience. Food, wine, ambiance all Five stars. After having dessert by the fire we retreats up to our beautiful room. At 9 am coffee and breakfast were delivered complimentary. We ate and then went to a 10 am yoga class(also complimentary) All in all it's expensive, but you get what you pay for. Well worth it for a special weekend.

Yelp
Had my wedding there Sept 2010... The ceremony was beautiful, the food was fantastic as expected, but the SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. I was appalled to see photos and learn from my husband that the bar at the reflection pool was opened at 5:30pm rather than as arranged in my contract for 6:30pm-7:30pm. This was not discussed, and not was I agreed to in my contract. I am confident that IF I had contracted for an open bar, staff would be vigilant in NOT opening the bar until the contracted time of 6:30pm. People were drinking AT my religious ceremony, which to me is clearly distasteful. -My cocktail hour ran until well over 8:30pm, when in fact I contracted for it to end at 7:30pm. They kept telling me they "were not ready" for us....why is this? And why was my event planner, who was meant to deal with me directly, slinging plates to guests and hauling around serving items when she was meant to handle the many issues that arose and deflect these issues from me? (THE POLICE ARRIVING, THE LACK OF WATER ON TABLES, the lack of wait staff taking ANY drink orders). If they are understaffed, that is not my issue, it's yours. What does it cost you to bring in a few more additional wait staff? -Upon my parents and groomsman/maid of honor toast, there was NO CHAMPAGNE to toast with. THERE WAS NOT even WATER on the table. NO BREAD!!! -I had arranged with staff to have a properly tallied bar tab. I clearly expressed to the event planner that I did not want to be handed a $5000 bill at the end of the night for the bar tab, when in fact, that is exactly what happened. - It was abundantly clear that the Bedford Post was severely understaffed and unable to properly execute this size and scope of an event such as a wedding. Why did I pay a 21% service fee?? In a meeting with RUSSELL (CO-OWNER WITH RICHARD GERE) he said a recent groom expressed "Even if the food was bad, service was shit, it would still be worth having my wedding here because of the beauty of the property..." I thought this to be a hypothetical at the time, clearly it is not a hypothetical. The service was abysmal. I tend to disagree with that groom. Yes I had a beautiful wedding, but NONE in part to the horrible service we were given. And NO the scenery and food to not erase that. I deliberated greatly in writing this as I was not sure if it was worth the aggravation and time of having to rehash the awful service experience we had at the Bedford Post for my WEDDING no less!!. Additionally, I am sure that owner RUSSELL (and RICHARD GERE) would not care at all about my sentiments based on the fact that they made NO attempt at reparations in the past even in light of my horrible experience with the Bedford Post over the past 9 months of planning this wedding. They can talk all they want about the upcoming accolades they are going to receive. It is easy for them to rest on their laurels or the "celebrity" influence they have behind them. If that is enough for you than the Bedford Post was obviously not the best choice for us in a wedding venue. We were looking for a venue with good food, stellar service and a place we could come back to year after year for anniversaries and holidays. I honestly cannot stomach the thought of continuing to be a patron at a facility that puts no worth in personal connections. BEWARE!!! GO TO BLUE HILL AT STONE BARN.

Yelp
Uneven evening, I'd have to say. We came for the 6pm seating for Valentines, and sat in the high ceieling room with the fire. We called to say we'd be 30 late, due to a master grayson meltdown, and they were accomodating, yet on our way we got a perturbed call asking where we were. Seemed like the management duo in suits didn't coordinate at the front of the house, or have a jekle and hyde thing going.. the food was mostly superb - ravioli, venison, mushrooms. but the strachiatella wasn't soup, and the dessert came 40 minutes after the main. strangely, no one asked if everythign was ok while they bussed a near full portion away (usually a good hint something is amiss), or while we drummed fingers and used smartphones after the main. It seemed like the kitchen let the staff down. But the wait staff itself was uneven. we were rushed through courses, then slowed to a halt for dessert. neighbors were delivered incorrect plates- twice. another found a foursquare Amex promo that wasn't honored. When we asked about the slow dessert, the "get the manager sirens" almost went off, like he WANTED the confrontation. bottom line, for $150 per plate, food, service and management should be superb. not so tonight. Jekle and Hyde at best.

Yelp
Review of Bedford Post Inn This review shall treat the Barn and Campagna (restaurants renting space at the Inn) as a separate entities. I took my wife to the Bedford Post Inn for a surprise anniversary weekend getaway. We had dined at the restaurant a few years before and thought the inn looked like it might be a nice place to stay one day. The inn looked like an intimate and quaint place to stay, but looks can be deceiving. When we arrived, we found our way to the front desk. The inn keeper made no introduction... no greeting whatsoever. We were carrying luggage, so it should have been plainly obvious that we were guests. I had called ahead and let them know this was a surprise anniversary stay. I also called Campagna to let them know as well. It was shocking that not a single inn keeper (there were two during our stay), nor a single waitress or Maître d' had any idea that it was our anniversary. For the price, the accommodations were fine. We had a cool looking room with a lovely bathroom that had heated floors. The service was pretty much abysmal. The free "continental" breakfast left a lot to be desired (it's a muffin basket and a coffee or juice). If you are still interested in staying here, be careful to reserve your table at the Barn in advance. Many non-guests crowd the place up on Sunday morning. The Barn hostess seemed to not know who we were and couldn't find us on the inn guest list. This didn't really feel like a bed and breakfast. Even though we identified ourselves as inn guests, the Barn seemed confused about our free continental breakfast. They pushed the full menu on us, which of course you end up ordering from because you can't really expect to feel nourished on muffins, jam, butter, and coffee alone. All-in-all the poor service is really what earned the Bedford Post Inn their 2 stars, otherwise it would have gotten a 3.25 Oh, and watch out for the thimble sized stink bugs flying and buzzing around your room. From Wikipedia: "Halyomorpha halys, also known as the brown marmorated stink bug, or simply the stink bug, is an insect in the family Pentatomidae, and it is native to" ... The Bedford Post Inn. Squash one and your room will be uninhabitable. Thanks for a subpar stay. We won't be coming back. Thanks for the hand written card though. It's too bad that's the only "special" thing you did to help us celebrate our anniversary.

Yelp
I have eaten here a number of times, and while the food is well presented, the service is mediocre at best. Slow, forgetful, inconsistent. Last time I was there a hostess was working the front stand whom I know for a fact was fired from a different restaurant for being incompetent. Unfortunately this area is fairly sparse as far as restaurants are concerned, so it's probably going to stick around.

Yelp
Unfortunately this visit serves as strike three for us. Prior to this evening there have been instances where their 16+ wait staff has come up far short of expectations. For this review those past transgressions will be left out. This latest dining experience unfolds in this manner: we arrive for an evening dining experience and the hostess graciously asks if we'd like a heat lamp as we chose to take outside seating. Our heat lamp arrives but is quickly scurried away as it is their one warming device and the owner, Richard Gere, is three tables away and needs warmth more than the other guests; read us. We are offered blankets which are sufficient for a period but as the temps drop the heat lamp we had would have been nice. Trouble is they wheeled it away without notice and when called on it, I was told "I thought it was for the table that just left." Fine, so we're left with 2 blankets (there are 3 of us) which are hard to come by, apparently, but at this point it's been over an hour since we ordered our main course and it isn't busy... The main dishes arrive after said hour + and honestly I enjoyed mine. When the owner, Richard Gere, passed by, he inquires if we are enjoying our evening - we say the meal is enjoyable but mention the fact that it's a bit chilly as his table took the heat lamp we asked for and were given when we arrived. All we get is from him is, "no, really, I'll have them bring it over" followed by a rapid departure. At that point our server says "sorry, I see that your meal is over but can bring you another blanket." I certainly expected more from a restaurant owner, regardless who he is or what else he does in life. For our $300 I was shocked by the lack of respect by Mr. Gere and his staff. If you want to wait hand and foot on the boss, please serve him in his house and not include the guests, who pay and tip rather graciously... The grounds are stunning and I wanted so much to love my experience but I have rarely been so let down at an establishment that is said to be so fabulous. The bottom line is that the staff care much more about the ownership, when in attendance, than the paying guests. Third time here for my very patient sister, who is a local and was hoping the 3rd time was the charm, rather than a sinker. Give it a go and tell me I'm wrong. Like I say, gorgeous place, poor service.

Yelp
I used to work at this place when it was hoppfields back in the 90s, so I was excited to check it out. They did a great job renovating the building, it looks amazing. I ordered the scallops ($30) and my wife ordered the beef tenderloin($45). The scallops were very good (all 4 of them) and the tenderloin was delicious. The beef amounted to probably less than 4oz of meat accompanied by 2 carrots and 2 pea pods(actually we think it was 1 pea pod cut in half). "fine dining" yes I get it, but really???? The service was perfectly adequate and the ambiance really are great. I guess I was expecting a little more when I drop $200.

Yelp
Chances are if you are thinking of heading here you already know the whole Richard Gere thing. And about the farm to table spin. So, let me just cut to the chase- The food is VERY good. If I was just rating the food and decor (which is fantastic- modern country barn) than I would have probably gone so far as four stars, because everything we had tasted SO incredibly fresh. Simple dishes, but the ingredients were impeccable. We ate lunch at the Barn and ordered from the Market Fresh Menu, which consisted of a grain salad, a mussels in broth entree and an apple pie for dessert. The apple pie was the only thing that was just so-so. Now for the rub. The service is incredibly spotty and slow. Granted everyone is extremely nice, which is pleasant- but when they constantly have to be asked repeatedly for things and leave dirty plates in front of you for 30 minutes, being nice only goes so far. ADDITION: I have since returned for dinner at the higher end Farmhouse. And again, the food was excellent for the most part. And again, the service was spotty. Seems to be their MO. The short ribs, the ravioli filled with creme fraiche and the brussel sprouts were all excellent. The fact that no bread came to our table for an HOUR and that the wine didn't arrive until the last bite of our appetizers left me scratching my head- why can't they seem to get the service thing down?

Yelp
"A-OK" is the correct way to think about this place for a weekend brunch. It's cozy but LOUD. It's not too hard on the pocketbook, but not too easy to reach. It's both pretentious (with valet parking and a reputation among celebrities as a dining option) and laid-back (very kid-friendly and ok to show up in sweatpants if you desire). The entrees for adults are a fraction of the size of kids' dishes, yet upward to two- to three-times the price. I'd bump this rating to four stars if the servers and other staff wore a smile once in a while, but the energy in this place among workers is not a positive one (a tone that is always set from the top down in any restaurant). As a tip for brunch goes: Order the kid's dish pancake - it was the tastiest thing on our menu and certainly enough to feed an adult-sized appetite (and it only cost $6). Steer clear of the egg sandwich, which was just about enough to feed an eight-year-old child and came complete with about twelve cubed potato bites rolling around next to the measly sandwich. Brioche french toast was also completely bland, except for the over-powering flavor of the orange peel sitting on top.

Yelp
A nice enough hotel - clean, nice bed, charming - but absolutely not worth $600 for a night for a fairly small room.

Yelp
We came to the Inn to have dinner and stay the night. The evening started with finding out they mistakenly gave away our room and were given a tiny cramped room over the noisy stairs. Dinner proved to continue our disappointment. While we were recommended a good bottle of wine, the food did not impress. A first course of mozzarella and plums tasted more like a dessert, cod was rubbery and tasteless and strip steak with chimichurri was overloaded with garlic and overcooked. They ran out of the dessert on the tasting menu, and instead we were given a very thick chocolate pot du creme which was nothing special. The pasta course and the wine were the only highlights. The room was super expensive, and you can hear conversations clearly from the room next door, not to mention every person going up and down the creaky stairs. Overall, a huge disappointment and we haven't even received our Amex bill yet.

Yelp
This rating is for Sunday Brunch. We were in the neighborhood and decided to check out this bistro run by Chef Michael White which came highly recommended by a friend. And indeed it lived up to it's name. We tried two dishes "for the table" and two "from the griddle". Soft scramble on toast was perfectly done. Well seasoned. The Fig & Prosciutto with ricotta and arugula was a delight. I am usually not a fig fan, but this was delicious. The pancakes were crunchy on the outside but soft as a pillow in the middle. The burger had the right balance of flavor. What a delight. And the service was excellent. Have to make another trip for dinner.
