I was perusing the freezer section of my local H.E.B., when a package of Beelers Pure Pork caught my eye. I opened the door to check it out further.
When I shop, I always read labels to make sure I'm buying quality items. My husband asks why I take such a long time when I'm at the grocery store, but I insist on buying quality food without harmful additives.
The package says no artificial ingredients such as nitrates, no antibiotics, and humanely raised with a vegetarian diet. Do other farms feed meat to pigs? Gross!
I enjoy breakfast sausage on the weekends, and prefer pork. The package is frozen and instructions say to thaw it when you are ready to use. It also says to use by 5 days of opening. The package thawed nicely overnight and I shaped the meat into patties. I like to use Saran wrap and flatten them by pressing down in order to get thinner patties. I put them into a non stick skillet and was pleased that they were not greasy. After cooking, we enjoyed them with homemade crepes. They tasted great, not greasy, but not dry either. I especially was glad that they weren't overly salty. The spices were fine, although it would be nice to have more choices like some brands. Overall, it was fine, and I will buy it again.
