Last week I was in Salt Lake City for the Western Hunting & Conservation Expo,...so I have a few reviews. To start, was a gem of a place that we found. We were going to go to the Franklin Cocktail & Kitchen, but who knew you had to have a reservation on a Sunday night in downtown SLC? So, we were hungry, tired and walked up the street and saw the Beer Bar, googled it and saw the menu and reviews....it was a must!
First off, the place is mostly Munich style seating with a few separate tables, which we nabbed one. We sat side by side to watch the big screens on the west wall which had the Mens and Womens curling going on at the same time! To order, you have to go up to the counter/bar and place your order, which I have never been a fan of especially when there is a line. But, the wait was worth it. While in line, this young man asked if we have ever eaten there before and we told him no. He said he has a few times and said it is his go to place now, but he had never tried the fries, so he and his girlfriend were going for a large that came with two dipping sauces of choice. (later, he walked by our table and said, “soooo worth it!”)
I ordered the Polish Heat Brat, which was a hot polish brat with sauerkraut and spicy peppers. Dang! That was a juicy brat that did pack the heat!!!! They had 11 choices of brats, so I cannot wait to go back and try another one. My Bride ordered the Turkey, Apple & Swiss sandwich which was sliced turkey, swiss cheese, seasoned green apples with a honey balsamic glaze on homemade sourdough bread and grilled. It looked fantastic and my wife says the taste matched the look.
We did order the hand-cut French Fries and ordered the Garlic sauce and the Roasted Jalapeno sauce (nine to choose from). As the young man said, soooo good! To top it all off, the beer selection was outstanding and if you wanted a cocktail, there was an open doorway to the cocktail bar next door that you could bring back to your table.
I highly recommend this place, the food is good, the ambiance is relaxing and the prices were fair. If you have a hankering for a Brat, Burger, Sandwich and Fries, not to mention six big screens,….a great place to take in some food, brews and sports.
