Google
Great place in Rockridge . We had a dinner and I took tacos duo with fish . It was very delicious one! They have also a long list of drinks, especially, beers. Cocktails present also. They have good place outside. The hall inside has a great interior especially a bar . Service is very friendly.

Richard

Google
Good food and drink selection. The smoking gun was fun to try. So were the purple haze and siesta en Sonora. My favorite was the classic old fashioned. Simple and delicious. Good beer selection too. The food was also good. Birria tacos, wagu burger, and orecchiette pasta. The big win was the duck fat fries. Delicious. Service was good and everyone was attentive.

Google
I really liked this place for their beer selection and good fish tacos. Looks like they are selling to another, not needed pizza place. The service was always very slow, so it doesn’t surprise me.

Devin Thorpe

Google
Service has been a little slow at times and the pours haven't been exactly generous but there's a good selection. Food was good the first 2 times but pretty bad the next 2 times. Spent $100 last time I was there for 2 people didn't feel like that great value or quality for the money. It was a sunday and usually I come for happy hour or whiskey Wednesday and I think I'll stick to that instead, better deals available then.

Sir

Google
You can spend some very memorable moments with friends and family here. Their bar options are extensive, and the food is of high quality. I found their stout beer and nacho combo really yummy. The location is good, too. I'm up to try drinks here again.

Natenapa Serdynski

Google
10/10 for us. We really enjoyed this place. Great food and drinks. The service is phenomenal! (Aaron is such a great server!) We went there on Wednesday for whiskys! So many choices! I love the atmosphere and woodwork, so much love and passion! Strongly recommend!

Fred W

Google
Had pulled pork burger with duck fat fries. Really good! Servers are attentive and friendly. There's a really nice vibe to this place. 2nd visit! Had the salmon sliders -was also awesome. My friend had the fish tacos and loved them.

Cee Rose

Google
I really like this place. They have delicious nachos and good beer and excellent service for the beautiful patio with music and heat lamps. And it's a great place to stay with your friends, but it's really expensive. If you don't have to worry about cash, I would definitely recommend this place over most places in this area. It is amazing. Place to sit and enjoy a nice dark beer or whatever. May have you. The service is really great. Everyone comes over to help you. People walk by so the people watching is fun. And I recommend the nachos holy cow.

Yasmine C.

Yelp
"Good cocktails" I came on a quiet night with my sister because the live music is very loud. My server was nice and asked the bartender pimjai how she made my martini. I will try to come again for happy hour.

Justin R.

Yelp
The atmosphere is great, espacially if you are looking for outdoor seating on a warm day or night. Don't sleep on the burger, it was cooked perfectly and I loved the acme bun it comes with. The spicy chicken sandwich was very tasty and also cooked to perfection. Loved the succulent fried chicken patty on a bed of coleslaw. And have no fear, it was not that spicy. I wasn't all that impressed w/ the duck fat fries. When I saw fries fried in duck fat on the menu, I started drooling and just had to order them. However when they were served it was underwhelming and served lukewarm warm at best. My only gripe was the service. The service was veeeeery slow and shocking considering that there were two servers and no more than 4 groups dining. Also they have a very extensive beer and whiskey menu. However our server had no idea, and he couldn't make any recommendations nor pair anything to our food/taste. It definetly did a disservice to their amazing bar menu. But overall a nice establishment and I would recommend for HH or an outdoor outing w/ friends & family.

Markus N.

Yelp
I channel Leslie Sbrocco as she sums up her guest experiences at the end - if you're looking for a casual chill setting with a cool urban vibe and outdoor seating and half-price whisky on Wednesdays, then Beer Baron is the place for you. The food I've eaten here is tasty, though admittedly I sample only the bites on the happy hour menu. But the bites are tasty! And if you come to drink whisky on a day that doesn't begin with a W you should watch your volume as it adds up quickly. BB isn't top shelf expensive, but you'll be having so much fun you'll forget to count. But if you come on the W you will be pleased, as the whisky is half off and that ensures happiness and a headache on the day that begins with a T. Staff are awesome, and the more often you come the more awesome they become. I'd go every day if I could. But I can't bc one headache a week is all I'm anymore able to accommodate.

Ricky L.

Yelp
Reviewing this place is tough. Their overall ambiance is great and is well located. My issue is with their food. Nothing was bad but nothing was great either. For the price I think there are better options out there. Can't really give them 2.5 stars, but that's what they are, average food, not bad not outstanding either.

John D.

Yelp
Pretty good although the prices seem a bit high for what you get. My picture is from in October when they had a bratwurst and salad as an Octoberfest special. We would come here again when in the mood mostly for beer.

Austin W.

Yelp
As far as happy hour spots go, Beer Baron reminds me of other large brew house chains like Yardhouse, BJ's, and Buffalo Wild Wings. The happy hour drinks are inexpensive at $8 each, but they're nothing spectacular. I definitely wouldn't be happy paying $15 for my drink but at $8, it's not bad. My Old Fashioned wasn't the stiffest drink I've had and tasted somewhat watered down. The happy hour food menu is pretty limited, but I was tempted by the duck fat fries and had to give them a try. The fries are steak fries and they're a little on the soggy side. The beer mustard sauce I opted to get with the fries didn't really have a strong beer flavor, but I quite enjoyed the curry aioli. With street parking being pretty difficult to find in the area, I'm not sure I would say this is the ideal spot to enjoy a Happy Hour.

Heather D.

Yelp
Okay, I gotta say it. I hate being forced to scan a QR code to look at a menu, especially one as large as this one. By the time I got through scrolling I forgot the name of the cocktail I wanted to order. Anyway, the cocktails are worth it and the beer list is great. I had to go with the Barrel Aged Monte Vista 83 (see that is long and hard to remember) and it was a treat. The smoked coho and salmon avocado toast came piled high with a mound of dressed herbs. There is no way to eat this long piece of bread gracefully, but it was fresh and just what I wanted although a little light on avocado. The short rib birria tacos were unctuous little bits of heaven, so good. The service is slow across the board and having the dining area, the bar area and the patio to deal with probably contributes to this. Please bring back the menus, I hate being forced to bust out my phone

Eric G.

Yelp
Nothing was really bad. The rating is low because of a series of things across the board. Take the wagyu burger. The patty was delicious and I loved it. It was spoiled however by the big fat flavorless bun. Almost got the doneness right (Btw, the food stylist and photographer that did the menu photos should win an award because everything looks 100x better than what you get) Duck fat fries were damn good, but serving them lukewarm spoiled it a bit. I really liked the range of whiskeys, BUT 1. The sad dinky little pour was disappointing 2. There's no one there that knew anything about whiskey Server was functional but not quite there. Not stoned, just a little not 100%. For example when you walk in there's no real greeting. Like an NPC in a game kinda I know restaurants make their money on alcohol. The small pour for that price was past my limit. Won't return.

Yelp
We showed up at 7pm and they said they were not taking anymore tables for the night because the waitlist was too long. All I could think is wtf. They close at 10pm, there's no way they had a long waitlist (no one was waiting outside), and there were plenty of empty tables. Maybe they just wanted to close early. Super disappointing and unreliable

Carson G.

Yelp
Walking in for the first time we loved the ambiance ! We were greeted right away - 15 minutes for patio seating. Would've opted to wait if we had known it was going to take 15 minute for the table to be touched for our drink order. We had ample time to figure out what we wanted, so, we ordered everything on the first touch. Drinks came out in about another 10 minutes. Ordered an app but everything came out at once. Broccolini was cold, burnt and very greasy. I wouldn't order again - definitely not if you're looking for something fresh. Salad was mid. The cauliflower tacos were pretty great, texturally. Somehow there was no flavor. Same with the Angus sliders. Not bad but not great. Everything came out to about $90 which seems like robbery, This place has potential but that potential hasn't been reached. For what it's worth the staff was friendly and approachable.

Ricca Cathrina E.

Yelp
Had a wonderful happy hour with a friend. We tried their bourbon selection. Fish taco was my favorite (I ordered another one)! Chicken taco was great too. Fries definitely a must! Love the place! Love the vibe! Love the location!

Ulyssa R.

Yelp
First of all, we came here on a Saturday and they had a live jazz band which was awesome. Second, we didn't get any food only drinks. I got the Purple Haze: empress gin, earl grey, crème de violette, lemon, no egg white. It was sooooo good! It's a hit or miss for me with crème de violette, so i was pleasantly surprised and happy the server predicted no egg whites. Overall good vibes, good drinks, but I have no idea what the food is like. We will see next time :)

Taimur A.

Yelp
I really didn't want to write this review because I love this place and have been going here for years but man have the standards of this place steadily gone down. One our most recent visit, they kept forgetting to provide us with basic things like cutlery. Forgot to bring us our food and didn't end up charging us for but what a poor experience and waste of resources, time and energy for all involved. They are blessed to be located where they are and should up their game before it's too late.

K S.

Yelp
A nice location and I think the wait staff tries but what a disappointment. The burger, which I ordered 'medium', was way over cooked and dry. They brought with it a little serving of ketchup that was about as much as a single fast food packet. I needed 3 times that just for the overdone burger. I wanted to send it back but it wasn't worth the hassle. The fries were rather average. The weather was nice so they were a bit busy but we had to flag down our server multiple times, or someone else when the server was occupied for extended periods of time, and ask multiple times for the same request.

Jim M.

Yelp
We had a lovely time. Small happy hour, close friends, and Alyssa was just excellent. Threw a complex order at her and she wrangled it perfectly. Can't wait for the next time!

Uday M.

Yelp
We have been to the Livermore and Pleasanton locations several times, but it was our first time here, and it happened to be on whiskey Wednesday (half off all whiskeys $10 and under). We would have usually gone for only beer, but the promotion enticed us and we ended up sampling six different whiskeys. We started with the local Mosswood selection from Berkeley, including the espresso barrel, apple brandy barrel, and sour ale barrel. Then, we moved on to the Griffo stout barrel and Basil Hayden's toasted barrel. The highlight among all of them was the espresso barrel, which all four of us thought was the best. We did try some beers, including the Glorious Apricot fruited sour (Morgan Territory Brewing) and Pink Lady (Hemly Cider), which were both solid. Will definitely come back once their beer selection rotates.

Venika G.

Yelp
Fun dinner spot! Menu is slightly overwhelming, so definitely look through it before your visit. Service was great and accommodating! Food was tasty, but nothing extraordinary. I'd definitely come back for dinner & drinks with friends or family.

Alisa K.

Yelp
3.5 stars WHEN: 6/13/22 for the warriors final game PARKING: no private lot but lots of free 2 hour street parking in neighborhoods nearby Beer Baron is a trendy casual American spot with plenty of outdoor seating and an indoor seating area consisting of two connected rooms. Came here to watch the Warriors game because there are 2 big TVs inside. Unfortunately, the TVs aren't placed very well because the way they are placed allow for maybe max 10 seats to comfortably see the TV and eat their food. Other than that, the place is very clean and there's a huge custom mural on the wall that made me bump up the rating of this place! The staff were great, they were all super helpful and aware of their customers. Unfortunately the food is not good. But the vibes were great. What we got: 1. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich ($17.50) - the fried chicken had a nice crunch to it but there wasn't any flavor in my sandwich 2. Two All Beef Sliders ($15) - two small sized sliders, not the best, could probably make this at home Great service and atmosphere but food is very mediocre!

Mark L.

Yelp
This place is great. An extensive menu of pub food--both classic and elevated--that really delivers. Everything we had, from the duck fat fries to the short rib beef dip sandwich to the fish and chips were awesome. Our only complaint about the food is that, despite our waitstaff's attempts, everything (including appetizers) came out at the same time, or in reverse order. And our server, Alyssa, was amazing! She is fun, engaged, extremely competent, and read the table perfectly. We had a blast talking to her, and her bubbly demeanor did not distract from her professionalism. The four of us had a great time!

Laurel L.

Yelp
We at here about a year ago and the food was awful, but the service was good...namely, our waitress told us that the food was always awful and that we hadn't hit a bad night. This time, because it was July 4, almost nothing else was open, we wanted to eat outdoors, and assumed that since the place is always busy, it must have improved. Not so, my friends. Food was ok/fine. Caesar salad with, what I assume was jarred dressing and croutons from a bag, but fine. Watermelon salad, watermelon was good. Fish tacos: fine. Service: TERRIBLE. Took forever for our server to come over, he couldn't figure out how to use the machine for orders. Waited a long time for water. Waited a long time for drinks. Waited a long time for food. No utensils...went inside to get those after another server disappeared while getting them. They lost out on second drink orders because no one ever asked. Never again.

Marc R.

Yelp
Grateful thanks to Shandel and the crew at Beer Baron for making our gathering of 25+ folks back in July super fun. Most of our guests were from out of town, so to be set up in a space that would accommodate all of us comfortably was greatly appreciated. The food was great as was the service! Many thanks!! Marc

Andrew Q.

Yelp
I don't know why Beer Baron got so many bad reviews, because I think it's great. We had a ceviche, the pasta with sausages, watermelon salad, pecan pie, and a couple of beers. All were great, and the service was even better. It was friendly and swift.

Rick H.

Yelp
Wonderful spot! We have lived in the area 14 years and have seen this spot turn over from Toast to Beer Baron about ten years ago. In that time, they have come a long way. The food is amazing, with a greatly expanded menu. The outdoor seating is key, especially in the summertime. Service is good and they are playing great chill tunes like reggae. Great vibe and great spot!!!

Cynthia G.

Yelp
Look, I get it...it's a holiday and holiday crew don't really want to be at work but DAMN! 1.5 hrs for a cheeseburger when everyone around us got their food-ate their food and paid for their food and left. The bad attitude waitress claimed no responsibility and could care less. Close the damn restaurant and just serve drinks! Once my food arrived, the burger was dry and had ordered fries and got sweet potato fries...what an absolute disappointment.

Andy D.

Yelp
Service was slow and non-attentive. I ordered a drink and after 20 mins and the rest of my party working through their drinks the server returned to tell me they couldn't make it. Parties of 5 are automatically charged 20% tip. That would have been good to know upfront.

Pamela C.

Yelp
Have heard good things for a while and finally went in tonight for happy hour. Nice menu for wine & food. We had duck fat fries & fish tacos, Gruner Veltliner wine-all very good. Look forward to coming back-great service too!

Stella K.

Yelp
Shoutout to the server who's birthday is on March 10th; you're the best!! They were super sweet and gave my partner a little treat for his birthday (today) and was really funny and conversational. I haven't been here in a while, but Beer Baron is still great! I admit some of the food is a hit or miss sometimes, but overall it's a good atmosphere with a variety of food and drinks. My #1 tip: GET THE DUCK FRIES

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
I went here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place is very spacious. The food is delicious. The price is on the $$ side but it is definitely worth trying. No complaints on the food. The waiters were very attentive

Love Coach M.

Yelp
Talia was absolutely amazing. She found me decaf coffee and even added whipped cream and chocolate perfect on a rainy day. She made my friend an amazing Mocktail and her smile made our day.

David S.

Yelp
Our table was set and waiting for us, which was awesome. Loved the extensive bar menu, and there was more than enough delicious "bar eats" to satisfy all tastes. Terrific evening all around !

Barton E.

Yelp
Great food and service. The short rib tacos were super. Lovely outdoor patio and good beverage selection.

Steve B.

Yelp
This is a review of desserts. Living in the neighborhood, I've enjoyed Beer Baron food on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon on the patio for some time, enjoying the delicious guacamole, cheese curds, fries, Etc. But one late night craving something sweet to be delivered, I stumbled upon their Berry Gallete. And then the bourbon pecan pie. These are incredible desserts. I love pie and the galette has a perfect crust, perfect not-too-sweet berries. The pecan pie is other worldly. Perfect late night indulgences.

Tracy D.

Yelp
Came during their transition menu time 2-3pm and enjoyed nachos with birria beef, cashews, and drinks. Service was attentive and fast. Food was tasty. It was a pleasant afternoon snack for us enjoyed on the patio outside.

Russell R.

Yelp
I'm gonna jump around a bit. The servers were all very nice and helpful. But, the service was very uneven. Lots of staff and movement, but not a lot getting done. The beer list was outstanding. Lots to choose from. Accurate descriptions as far as I could tell. The configuration was odd. Two large areas inside. Outside, some small tables but also some very large tables. It was tough because it was a very hot, sunny day and we wanted to sit outside but because many of the tables were large -- six/eight tops -- but the same tables had only two people at them, spread out, so there was nowhere for us to sit that was not in the blazing sun. Maybe smaller tables that can be pushed together if needed would be a better idea? We ordered the Brussel sprouts and also the cauliflower. The flavor was good, but alas way too greasy. Could not finish either dish; just too heavy with grease. While always a potential issue with fried food, both dishes were just soaked. Really wanna like Beer Baron given location, but . . . its upscale prices and oily food did not work for me. --workingman's gourmand

J. M.

Yelp
Terrible service tonight. I have been going here years for happy hour cocktails and apps. Waitress sat us down and never took our order. Then, we had to ask for food and drinks because they never came out. Ordered a second drink and it never came out. Baja tacos were not as good as they used to be. Way too greasy and small piece of fish. Won't be back for several months.

Jolie B.

Yelp
Since my last review I've been back several times and been totally happy. I love their flautas, chilaquiles, burgers and fries, breakfast burritos and chicken and waffles. The service is always great and the vibe is cool. They make some pretty tasty cocktails.

Mea Cole T.

Yelp
Beer Baron is a chill casual spot with fantastic drinks and service. Lee is a legend who helped make out evening fantastic. Easy bar food. We didn't have the nachos but those looked massive

Jenna T.

Yelp
Short rib dish - yum! Churro dessert - double yum. Their cocktails are good but pricey. Seems like a great place for drinks more than food. Tacos are $9 for street tacos, so if that's your thing go for it; personally, I'd rather go to a taco truck for authentic street tacos for half the price, if that. Anyway, our waitress was bomb and they take social distancing and masks serious out here which I can appreciate. I did have to email for my receipt afterwards since it wasn't offered to me after paying. Still on the fence if I would come back here again, most likely for cocktail hour or somethin'.

Cat S.

Yelp
came for happy hour on friday almost missed it but Pimjai at the bar helped he get the order before it stopped and they did not have the music but theres lots of options on happy hour. she suggested a new one and it was a refreshing mezcal i ordered another

Staci L.

Yelp
The new menu has changed my tune about this place! This used to be one of my least favorite places on College-- food wasn't great, but the patio was. The new menu though has me wanting to go back asap. Drinks were delicious and strong. Food was also delicious and reasonably priced. Atmosphere was fantastic and servers were friendly and attentive. Wish I could give them more than 5 stars, I have no notes.

Mel S.

Yelp
*Open for outdoor dining, takeout, and delivery* I really enjoyed my time here from the food and drinks, spaced out tables, super friendly and attentive staff, fire playlist, etc. Service and staff: I think we had a total of 3 waiters total, but it wasn't in a messy kind of way. We started with one, another noticed that we could use another drink and helped us out, and ended with another. Huge shoutout to David, who was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful when asked for recommendations. Safety: Tables are spaced out. All staff wears masks and stands at a distance from the diners. Food: We started with drinks and appetizers. - The Siesta en Sonora was my favorite drink. It was somewhat similar to a margarita, with tajin on the rim for a little kick. - I really enjoyed the crispy cauliflower (in photo). I would definitely order this again. - I also ordered the butter chicken and naan, which was hearty. Overall, really enjoyed the ambiance and vibe of this place, along with the food and drinks. Will definitely be back.

Dave M.

Yelp
Awesome. Alyssa was our amazing server. The drinks, the setting, ya can't go wrong. And, seriously, Alyssa is the best.

S C.

Yelp
Had an amazing time at Beer Baron. Alyssa made our evening. Great drinks, better service. Thank you!!!

EJ E.

Yelp
Spacious place and clean. Lots of drinks and average price for the area. Nothing special. Waitstaff is horrible and totally mean girl vibes. We heard them talking smack at the bar and saw the younger blonde one be nice to a customer then turn to another server to make a face and body gesture suggesting she was talking smack. I would definitely not come back here. The man bartender seems to be the only decent person here. He probably deserves better. 2 stars for an extensive menu and spacious/clean restaurant. 3 for the distasteful service.

Levi G.

Yelp
I've been here four times but most recently I was disappointed. I haven't given up on Beer Baron but I'm not raring to return soon. On the recent visit, they screwed up my $19 burger. It took 45 minutes to prep the burger - 15 minutes longer than the 3 other folks in my group - and it came out well-done with the wrong kind of cheese. The manager (or owner) saw my disappointment (good eye), and I explained what was wrong. He took the burger back inside, and the cook... took the cheese off of the patty, put new cheese on, and put the whole thing back on the grill. Lol. It came out overcooked and the manager, upon giving it to me and saying "the cook was unsure whether you'd want to wait for a totally new burger," immediately offered to just prepare a second burger on the house for me. Well yeah, when someone orders medium rare, you can't just keep cooking it, lol. The second burger was ok. Still a tad overcooked, a bit dry. I, and my companions, tried the first burger... it was pretty much inedible. At the end of the meal, the fish in the fish tacos got praised but the taco shells and the bavarian pretzel got dinged for being poorly prepped. Duck fat fries weren't as good as my memory had suggested. I appreciate that the manager caught the burger mistake in action, but, what's up Beer Baron!? I hope the food improves. Otherwise I'll just swing by for the happy hour on occasion.

Tomas R.

Yelp
I've been here about 4 times over the course of two months and have had different experiences depending on both day and time. Weekends are busy and it seems understaffed during brunch. Menus are on an app and no one specified when brunch menu ends or lunch menu started so I had to change me order 3 times. Additionally when our duck fat fries came out they were soggy and warm not hot and crunchy. Burger was fine nothing amazing. My dinner experiences have been better - fish and chips, fried chicken sandwich, cheese curds, fries, Brussels sprouts and cocktails have been solid. Definitely a casual environment that had standard American fare. Would I come here again? Yes. Expectations are managed

Rachel B.

Yelp
I always enjoy visiting Beer Baron during their Whiskey Wednesday nights. They have half off whiskey pours (anything $10 and under) all night on Wednesdays! Along with their "bible" of whiskey's they have fantastic cocktail and wine choices! Beer Baron Oakland does have a strange system where you do not have one assigned server, and it did cause some confusion when ordering our drinks and food. I recommend going straight to the bar if you want to order any alcohol beverages! It is much faster and more accurate. Their food is also delicious. Beer Baron has become a frequent visit for myself and friends throughout the week to enjoy some great food and drink specials! Definitely recommend if you are in the are.

Yelp
Came here after a brewery kuz we wanted some cocktails. Food: We ordered the Duck Fat Fries with the Garlic Aioli and Chipotle BBQ 10/10 fries were a nice thick size and so flavorful. Nachos with no meat 6/10, it was a nice pile of chips but were only dressed on top so the chips under were plain also the salsa they use had a weird taste and not my favorite. Drinks: Super overpriced which is expected for higher end places. We got the whiskey flight and it was 1/2 oz of liquor which seemed very small. I hot the spicy tequila drink which was sooo nasty I couldn't try and drink it. Was offered 2 other ones and although still not goot took one. Service: At first they were very and helpful. As the night went on our waitress seemed to have gone on break and we waited 15 mins to finally get someone's attention to ask for the bill, once it arrived it was wrong. We then couldn't get anyones attention to close us out and had to get up to pay. It just seemed like we became invisible. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place. Bas service and overpriced mediocre food.

Yelp
Awesome staff, great beer selection, big T s, specials and lots of indoor/covered and warmed outdoor seating. Great indie music but not blaring so that you can still have a conversation. Found our new beer spot on in rockridge. The duck fat fries and burger was delish!
