Came here the other day after work with some colleagues. All three of us are new to the city and decided to start a "Tour de Pueblo" to visit different establishments and get to know the area a bit better. Beer Barrel came up as an option with good reviews, food available, and affordability, so we made the trip.
It certainly is a local's place, however it's not one that makes you feel like an outsider intruding upon scared ground. There are bar stools on the right, chairs/tables in the middle and booths on the left. A jukebox stands in one corner and I'm told there is live music on weekends. We grabbed seats at one of the booths and were approach pretty quickly by the server who was friendly, helpful and patient as we took a while to figure out what we wanted to order. I ended up getting a side of fries. One friend tried the chicken tacos and the other a corn dog. Since it was called the Beer Barrel, I kind of assumed (incorrectly) that there would be a fair selection of beers. Our choices were Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, and Shock Top. Went with the last option. Fries were tasty and my friends also enjoyed their bar fare.
Overall a fun place, cheap food (my tab was less than $5) and drinkable beverages. Would like perhaps at least one other non-Bud/Coors choice, but beggars can't be choosers.
