Beer Star

I've always wanted to visit this place, but I always seem to pass it on 6th Ave. It looks like they used to have a large assortment of beers you could have selected, but either the fridge is broken or the business model didn't pan out. They do have 50 beers on tap with a good selection of wine. It was quiet but picked up around 4:30, and a few parties took place outside. I did see kids and dogs enjoying the outside seating. I did enjoy #50, but it lacked a bourbon barrel flavor.

Gluten friendly establishment!!! The chicken food truck is gluten free and they had a gluten free beer on tap plus a lot of ciders. Just sucks that they don't have any beer to go anymore, their fridges are empty 👎

Awesome beers on tap. Great food truck (Chicken Supply) outside. Nice atmosphere, especially for trivia. Missing single bottle beers for sale though. Fridge is empty except for ciders.

This is a cool place to hang out, and I’m grateful for them having multiple hard ciders on tap. The snack selection was very sad though, and most of the fridge space was empty.

Best patio to hang out on. If you're lucky you'll get a seat around oversized fire pit in time for sunset while you enjoy a pint. Great seating inside and out where you can enjoy one of their great beers on tap from some of the best local breweries. There is no kitchen here, but they have a delicious assortment of snacks for sale and have food trucks on site most days of the week. Environment is clean and accessible with super friendly and helpful staff. Family friendly so you don't have to choose between family time and adult beverages. Parking is tight on the lot but there is street parking close by or you are allowed to park at Walgreens across the street and they don't mind.

Great beer selection. Dog and kid friendly. Huge fire pit (uncovered) and ample outdoor picnic tables (covered). Seasonal food trucks and a selection of packaged snacks, but you’re also welcome to picnic, bring in take-out, or order delivery.

Beers, ciders and yummy munchies. Had a very relaxed atmosphere not overly busy. Good beers and food. Pretzel with a jalapeño cheese.dip. we also got the totchoes. Outside has a huge fire for people to sit and chat. There are also tables outside as well. We will definitely be back. That also have a beer wall so you can purchase beers to take home.

LOVE this place for the huge fire pit and great bottle selection. And the service is incredible! Always a friendly face, and when I left my wallet behind, the owner brought it TO MY HOUSE and introduced himself. I mean, that's so above and beyond.

Excellent tap list. Giant space. Nice atmosphere' Mostly the tap list is excellent. There are many places to grab a beer in Tacoma. This is one of the best.

Good selection on tap. More in the coolers. Nice ambiance...chill. Would def come back. Looks like they have food trucks/vendors from time to time. Girl who poured our selections was nice and helpful.

Good and extensive selection of beers. No cooked food served but there's a small refrigerated food section and sometimes a food truck outside. Vibe is kind of sterile tbh. But it's big and can handle larger groups. Kids can only sit outside or in one small section of the place.

Love this dog friendly place. Got to enjoy some great drinks in a laid back atmosphere that encourages you to bring outside food and to bring your well behaved pups

Great tap list, the beertender was knowledgeable in my selections, had a few good beers & some good convo.

Mixed feelings about this place. Love to come for the tap list and the outside area is really nice, but every time we've come recently there's been super rude people (some were friends of the bartenders I think?) parked in the emergency parking area and it makes it not ADA accessible.

We stopped by here tonight for a quick drink. They have quite the extensive list of tap ciders, seltzer, and beer. That woman working there was very friendly and the place was extremely inviting. I would definitely stop back by here. They also have coolers on the side if you would like to purchase individual cans, in addition to growlers. The only two negatives are. 1. They don't have food, so you do need to bring your own if you want to eat (aside from some random snacks they do have for sale). 2. Someone had a dog inside and I'm highly allergic. This was not a service dog. I'm quite confused how this is allowed. Even still, I would stop back by. Luckily, it's quite large.

love the dog friendliness and how roomy it is even on a busy night. you can easily find a cozy spot with your dog and partner and not have to bump elbows with anyone. pints are kinda overpriced but it is what it is, they're not any more expensive than anywhere else i guess. hockey on tv is a nice touch. overall not a bad place to spend some time after work

Beer Star is a great spot to gather your friends for a couple pints. The outdoor area is welcoming, especially when the fire pit it on! If you have a larger group of friends and want to sit down somewhere without a waiting list - BeerStar is our go to. Also doggie friendly!

Great beer selection in bottles and draft. But slow service if gets busy, and no food.

Pros: wonderful selection, cheerful, inviting service, and a convenient food truck outside. The fire pit on the patio is a great touch. Cons: Usually too cold, loud, uncomfortable seats, and lots of TVs. They close comparatively early. This is a fantastic venue, and has become (ever since the death of Copper Door) the first bar I suggest for both casual and professional meetups. It's clearly a labor of love for the bartenders, who are knowledgeable, friendly, and diligent. They're happy to offer advice, samples, and make a point to address you by name. In their downtime, they're cleaning and zipping around to collect empty glasses from the tables. All are welcome; there's usually a dog or two in the bar, and a little kid's area in a corner. Normal tables complement taller bar stools and a really cool extended bar section juts out to double the amount of available bar seating. It's always clean, so I love coming here to write or catch up with friends. I usually try to bring noise-cancelling headphones, though. It's typically loud, and the TVs can be really distracting. The temperature is also fairly brisk, and there's one seat in particular positioned directly under a vent; I've seen several customers sit there and quickly reconsider. The hours and parking also leave something to be desired. A bar closing at 10 is a little unfortunate. They don't serve food, but the Starvin' Marvin food truck in the parking lot can bring your order to your table inside. They offer piles of great crunchy fries, sandwiches, and personal pizzas. Wonderfully convenient. Finally, there's a big fire pit outside on their patio. It's a really great place to nurse a beer and stare into the flames. Despite my low tolerance for the external stimulation of the noise and TVs, I love Beer Star and hope they stick around.

Nice addition to Sixth Avenue in Tacoma. First time in and I noticed immediately they have a huge selection of beers on tap. An equally impressive cooler selection in the back, but half of it was empty. Of what was there, the beer selection was well thought out. They also have a surprisingly large selection of wines and ciders, a very nice outdoor area and they are dog-friendly. Although, the dog barking inside every few minutes was enough to get me to leave after one beer. Beer Star defintely carters to the family-types with kids and dogs, so don't expect the same atmosphere as RedHot or the Parkway. Although, I am sure the parents in the area are very happy about this addition, because there are no places like this in Tacoma, that I can think of. Great neighborhood place and worth checking out if you are in the area.

Great service loved being able to sit outside in the sun with friends and enjoy a beer. Like many have said no food menu but you can make a good spread with the snacks available to purchase or bring food with you.

I live a short bike ride from Beer Star so keep trying it...the ambiance is great, the outdoor seating some of the best in Tacoma (asides from those on the water), the selection impressive, the food trucks consistently good...but the consistent arrogance and standoffishness of the bartenders, like they are doing you a favor taking your order and would prefer that you went somewhere else, is consistent to the point last night that's what I did...went down to Locus Cidery and directed my friends to meet me there instead. Peaks and Pints has the same issue with the standoffishness of many of their bartenders...we are in Tacoma for goodness sake, be friendly or go back to Seattle. Here is to hoping the management gets the message ~ friendly bartenders = more customers.

Lots of seating, inside and outside. Lots of televisions with a variety of stuff on. Place was clean, even the bathrooms. Dog friendly. Lots of craft beer on tap and for sale in the can. Snacks available but no kitchen. We came on a Wednesday afternoon and had the place to ourselves for the first 10 minutes. Looks like a good place but the one employee working didn't want to be bothered (or didn't have answers) to questions. My only negative was the single employee working did not appear to want to be there. Perhaps just a bad day for him. I would try it again based on everything else. *edit. Second employee arrived and is much friendlier. I also noticed a food truck schedule that is nearly full for the month.

I frequently go to Beer Star for drinks, munchies, and games. Having a place that I can just relax and spend a few hours socializing is great. I mostly drink wine, which is sometimes an issue at beer dedicated establishments. Beer Star usually has 4 wines on tap, so I'm a happy girl. Then they have a billion beers on tap and bottled/canned. In addition to drinks, they have snacks inside: meat, cheese and crackers, and giant pickles. On Friday and Saturday evenings there is a food truck. Inside is a decent size with a family section, bar seating, general seating, and a few small tables by the windows. I usually sit up front with my doggos since Beer Star is dog friendly. I'm looking forward to warmer weather because there is also outdoor seating. It's under construction but looks like they're putting in a massive fire pit. See you around!

I love this place. Being a parent of a 2 year old it's nice to know there is somewhere I can go enjoy a beer (or glass of wine in my case) while he can play and interact with other children. There is a train table and chalk board and some books to keep the kiddos busy. Plus I enjoy sitting on the benches by the kid area and interacting with the other parents. There are snacks and I have been twice with food trucks. Highly recommend for those patent that need a place to go too

Pretty great spot overall. Really nice indoor/outdoor setup, good food options plus you can bring your own. Very friendly staff. The tap list leaves a bit to be desired though. Some crummy Rogue beer, they've got it. Interesting imperial stouts, not so much. Basic Elysian IPA but no Cloudburst. A lot of samey IPAs (and that's not a knock on IPAs - it's a knock on mediocre indistinguishable ones) take up too much of the tap list and crowd out more interesting beers. For a lot of the real winners, you need to go to the can and bottle fridges. Which isn't bad, but a great tap list would be ideal. I like Beer Star, but it's certainly no Chuck's Hop Shop.

It's like an adult Starbucks! Nice selection of beers and hard cider. I love that they have a lot more outside seatings. The only down fall is not enough parking. They also need a new food truck to parked out front.

Great selection & awesome to be able to bring the doggo's. Was disappointed that we got told to get our dogs under control after they whine a few times & barked once. Would have been ok if were were asked politely. The guy was kinda rude about it.

Good beer and great service...but if you want to come here to watch sports, they will not play the sound for you. Even if it's the Ms or the hawks... You'll listen to music while the game is being played on the TVs. Bummer, because this would be the place to come if they played the sound!!! So I give it a medium score.. :/.

Fun. Clean. Kid friendly (there's a train table). Ok 50 beers on tap with option of flights to help make choosing easier. $8-9 for a flight of 4 - 4oz. 4 large screen TVs. I hope this place sticks around!

Pros: Friendly staff , This place has a very extensive beer line up and is great to sit back and watch your favorite sports team on one of their many large flat screen Tv's... Cons: Too many dogs, its like a kennel in here and when peoples little yapper dogs wont stop barking the staff doesn't do anything and it disrupts the customer experience..

I love beer taphouses. Personally I think you can never have too many of them as long as there are brewery selections that are local(ish) for breweries that are more than a day drive to reach. Thankfully Beer Star Tacoma is such a taphouse. I have had a few great Abbey beers out of California here. The selection of beers that they have on tap in general is wide and vast which is just what I like to see for a Beer Bar. I have been to this Beer Star twice now. The second time I went here it was warm enough out that Steve and I could utilize their outdoor seating which is great. It is a nice, spacious place to hang out and chill with your beer. Already Beer Star seems enormously popular. Sure, the newness is still there and that always brings in a lot of people but I think the staying power of Beer Star retaining it's popularity is very good. It's at a great location and is right off of 6th Ave. where there is a lot of activities. Not only does Beer Star have a great selection of beers on tap but they also have a pretty solid selection of bottled beers that you can buy as well. If there is any room for improvement here it's the parking. I have no complaints about the location itself but the parking lot is quite small given the amount of business Beer Star gets but the good thing is you can usually find fairly close parking in the neighborhood to use as well.

Not quite what I expected but it was also a Thursday night. There was like 4 or 5 people there at 630. Football was on and everything. There is alot of seating and it's a mix of high top and low top tables. It's very simple and open. The staff was friendly too. The biggest bummer is that there's only a few random snack choices but no kitchen. My personal preference is food with beer. They have a nice selection of beers and ciders (a LOT of IPAs which aren't my fav) and even wine for the wine lovers! This was pleasant but not a wow. Also, dogs allowed :).

We love Beer Star - tons of beers and ciders on tap, wine too, great selection and a wide variety. They are a tap house - don't serve food, but sell salami/cheese/crackers, other snacks, and there is often a food truck out front. You can also bring food or order delivery to their spot. Lots of shaded and sunny tables outside and a big fire pit. It's a relaxing place to gather with friends.

Great atmosphere. Came here with two of my work friends and two of my friends pups. I'm not a huge beer fan (don't judge me) so I enjoyed some of their different ciders. I was able to taste them before committing to anything on the menu.

Spacious, great beer selection, lots of seating (inside), very friendly staff. The food truck had pizza and chicken fingers, I guess it'll do if you're hungry but we decided to wait to go eat elsewhere. We wanted to sit outside and made a beeline for an empty picnic table but it was blocked by some kids playing on the floor with a train set. Then there was the baby crying, other kids running around...so we went back inside, had our beer and left. Not the atmosphere we were expecting from a place like that.

As a new parent in the neighborhood, I've been waiting for this family-friendly bar to open and am very satisfied. Great drink selection: 50 taps, mostly beer, almost all WA and OR beers, which I like, including several Tacoma breweries. The PNW is sort of IPA-crazy, which isn't my thing, but there are plenty of varieties represented. Staff is friendly. The family-friendly area is smaller than the bar area, but that's to be expected. 4 stars instead of 5 because it's dog-friendly (which I don't like; sorry!) and the beers are pricy (5.50-7.00 for most pours, but maybe that's just what beers cost here now?). No kitchen, but there has been a food truck outside many of the times I've driven by recently.

Great beers on tap from all around the NW. Also great outdoor area and plenty of sports on inside. Very friendly staff.

Ahh, beer. The spacious setting for all the beer that has the average crowd here is not rowdy, its definitely not a bar. They know about pickles and olives, their olives are perfect with a can, bottle, glass, or pitcher since they hit everything, catch them in the crowd mid game like you went to the old beer park.

This is honestly one of my favorite spots in Tacoma! They have a huge (and always rotating) selection of beers on tap and in cans/bottles. They also have a pretty good wine selection (the owner is a Somm!) Not only are they family friendly but they also love dogs! They're starting to ramp up on brewer's night on a Thursday's through the summer, which means specials on pints, raffles, and (usually) a food truck!! Lots of room to spread out for groups of all sizes. Come hang out, cheers!!

We finally visited Beer Star last night! And it did not disappoint. It is a beirdo's paradise. A whole world of taps including wine, kambucha, cider and all kinds of beer. They don't have food but they have a great snack options. We bought some snacks and then ordered pizza delivery. The atmosphere is perfect for a meet up with friends. They really did a great job creating a social atmosphere. The staff was also great. Very friendly. We also brought beer home from the bottle shop.

Nice newer beer place on 6th and stevens across from Walgreens. Kids and pets allowed. It is NOT a brewery so they dont make their own. Decent selection but online was different than actual. They sell chips and snacks but will allow you to bring in food i think. It was empty during Superbowl Sunday ( see pics)

This place is legit. Great place to watch the game and the beer selection is out of bounds. Keep slanging that fire water boys/girls

I've been twice. First time, I loved it and couldn't wait to come back. Second time, the amount of kids was extremely daunting. There possibly was more kids than adults. I don't mind the kids and think it's great to have a place to mingle with other adults with your kids too, it was just too much running around and constant screaming without much parental supervision. I couldn't pick out something from the cooler without worrying about tripping on kids crawling on the floor. I'd recommend it to those with kids who don't mind a lot of noise as the tap selection is really great.

It's great to see places to eat and drink moving west down 6th Ave. Beer Star is a great new tap room with a HUGE selection of local and west coast beers. Though they don't have a kitchen (by design), they really went the extra mile to make sure you can have something to eat. They offer a variety of snacks--chips, cheeses, salamis, even sandwiches--all nicely pre-packaged, and there have been regular food trucks outside. There a couple of other really unique things about the place--they have a children's area, where you can sit and sip, with your kiddies contained in a nicely designed play area; an outdoor beer garden is clearly in the works (now we can sit outside at a taproom somewhere else besides the Parkway); they are dog-friendly (don't know how they swung this through the local regulations?); they look like they're gearing up to sell bottles and cans along the back wall; they have lots of large well placed TVs for game, too. The beer-tenders are super cool guys and I've had a great experience so far....It's the closest place to my house and I can WALK there. Not sure if that is good or bad for me? LOL. Only downside so far? The place gets really noisy! If you want a quiet place to sip and meditate, avoid weekends. PS--my dog really didn't touch that beer...she just posed with it!

Super spot. Very convenient for me as I often have a 15-20 minute wait for something just down the street and it's a nice place to spend that time. Beer selection is fabulous. Seems mostly local residents that patronize during the week. Food trucks on weekends from what I have seen. Maybe, just maybe, some of the other patrons come across as snooty or pretentious or even do I dare say, beertentious? Is that a real thing? I dunno. Also, prices can be a little on the steep side but that is a trend everywhere these days. Shame too because my beer budget just buys me less and less as time goes by. Can't keep up with trends I guess. Also, Beer Star, our up some sound baffles. When the kids are revved up and the place is fullish, you can barely hear what the person sitting next to you is saying. I know it's not some quiet, dark lounge but it sure can be a loud place to be. Nevertheless, 3.5 stars is my official rating.

I got my introduction to E9 brewing beer. Really enjoyed my time here. Fire pit made it even better

I can't complain about this place too much! Just seems the "grown up" side is bigger section seating than the family friendly spots. For this place being brand new I hope the service and the place stays like it is. There isn't table side service, oh well first world problem!

Nice place for a beer. They have a variety of beers available in coolers for drinking in the bar or to take home. They also have a large array of beers on tap cannot remember 100% but I think about 30. They also have a selection of cheese and meets as well as chips. If you want to bring food into the bar that is allowed. A few places deliver to Beer Star. The staff was very helpful and friendly so we will be going back to Beer Star regularly. Huge bonus is they allow dogs inside which for us is really cool. They are also working on an outdoor seating area which will be nice in the summer time. Only downside for me was the screaming kids. I'm all for people bringing their kids in, nice to have a place other then a restaurant to get a drink with friends. I have 5 of my own so huge plus but also can be an annoyance. Not the bars issue but need to know before you go. Have fun sampling and drinking. Lots of TVs and the U-shaped bar was unique. Nice to see another beer bar/store serving local beers. Cheers!

Rude staff (can't remember the last time I met anyone who cared less about their job), under stalked (nothing on the shelf was different from what was at Safeway), music was too loud (and it wasn't even good music)...won't be returning.

Love the beer selection but what is AWESOME is pets and kids can be inside with you. Nice food truck options plus you can bring your own food in.

Omg!! I don't even want to write this review because this place is so great I don't want everyone to find out about it!!!! So many prime beers, super chill, friendly staff and outside seating with fire pit are you kidding me????

I've been to Beer Star a few times now and it's always a great experience! They do flights which is always fun for trying new beers and staff is friendly and helpful!

Friendly people, great beer selection primarily from the NW(also multiple wine taps, ciders and kombucha) and DOG FRIENDLY!!!
