Beloved Virtual Bakery Bee’s Cakes Will Soon Open a Cafe and Cake Shop in Roseway | Eater Portland

"Powazek will take over the soon-to-close Heim Bakery space to open Bee’s Cakes and Cafe, where she plans to serve breakfast pastries, croissants, and slices of her well-known cakes while keeping a loose, rotating menu of croissants, bars, cookies, and breakfast pastries. I learned she intends to keep signature cakes like the pineapple-coconut carrot cake filled with cream cheese frosting and toffee chips and the orange poppyseed cake with orange buttercream and orange curd, and she’s been making items such as brioche buns inspired by everything bagels filled with scallion cream cheese; she’s also confident cardamom rolls and cinnamon rolls will be regulars. Once COVID-19 cases slow she hopes to open for onsite brunch with breakfast sandwiches (including those on Portuguese bolo levedo), breakfast burritos, and yogurt bowls, plus espresso made with Kafiex Roasters coffee and chai from One Stripe Chai; until then she plans pre-ordered pickups while slowly renovating the space and hopes to open in some capacity by the end of June, saying “everything fell into place” after a rough five months and that it’s nice to have a home that is theirs." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Bee’s Pastry Café has delicious coffee and good food, no complaints there. However, the service setup was a bit disappointing. You have to order and pay at the counter before sitting down, including leaving a tip ahead of time. The waitress only brought out our food and didn’t check on us afterward. When I asked for salt and hot sauce, she just pointed to where they were on the counter instead of bringing them over. For that level of service, I would’ve tipped less, but it was already paid. It’s also on the pricey side, about $58 for two meals and two coffees, which felt high considering the limited table service. Overall, the food and coffee were enjoyable, but the service model and pricing could use some improvement.

Google
This place is a hidden gem. Ordered the NY style bec and man that bacon was thick!! I also order a strawberry cheese danish...wow so moist and delicious. For my coffee I got a pistachio latte with almond milk and it was so creamy with just a hint of nutty. This will def be on my list of having coffee with friends. The staff was so kind and polite, it was a bit packed but the staff always went around to clean up and ask if we needed anything. They also offered us a high chair and def made our breakfast easier.

The service here is absolutely excellent, warm, and welcoming from start to finish. The highlight, without a doubt, is their amazing sancocho—rich, flavorful, and truly authentic. This place delivers not only great food but also a wonderful experience that makes you feel right at home. If you’re in El Paso, this is a must-visit spot. Highly recommended!

Google
Bee's Pastry Cafe is an absolute gem! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—every bite was worth savoring. Today the star of the show was the Pumpkin Coquito Latte! Madeline, the barista here, is on another level—expertly crafted, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with both skill and passion. Easily some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. If you’re a foodie or a coffee lover (or both), this spot is a must see visit! FYI the Puerto Rican dishes are amazing!!! The pics are of the Carne Frita con Tostones and Mofongo con Camerones al Ajillo❤️

Google
Great coffee shop! The staff were really helpful in deciding on what to order since they have a good amount of syrups and coffee/latte creations! The atmosphere was really nice but a bit too small for the amount of people that come for the delicious pastries and drinks. The Teddy Graham Latte was really good as well as the Matcha Latte. Definitely recommend giving this place a try!

Google
So we came to this restaurant by surprise. My daughter in law found this place but we had no idea what it was. To our surprise it was Puerto rican food and carribean. And all I can say is that this little cafe is amazing to say the least. Everything on the menu sounded very good. I ended up getting the cubano sandwich and blew the roof off. I mean wow. The Sandwich was very big so easy to share. The service was of course great and the prices are very good as well. I definitely recommend and dont leave without trying a cafe con Leche and a quesito!!!!

Google
The (CCAD) Caramel Coconut Almond Danish was BOMB. Best sticky bun I’ve ever had. Had to split it with my boyfriend cause it was Thicc! I will come back just to have it again. I am also in love with the dessert-latte, Pumpkin Coquito, it’s like drinking a creamy pumpkin pie out of a straw. Not the best for weight watchers but as a special occasional splurge. I left Bee’s Pastry Cafe with a smile I couldn’t turn down.

Google
My husband and I happened to drop in there today, Saturday afternoon, looking for a good cup of coffee and something light to eat! Bees Pastry café did not disappoint! Sandwiches they serve are very good and the pastries are out of this world! The coffee is Excellent also. The lady who served us was very attentive and knowledgeable, and she made the experience awesome! The vibe in there is pretty cool too, Thank you Bees pastry Café for a great experience!

Yelp
Small little Mexi-PR fusion cafe on the far east...buzzing. I enjoyed a MexiMocha latte. It was a nice little out of the way place that a lot of folks know about. So, it got crowded in the dining room pretty quick. If it weren't so busy or if they cycled through the customers, it would be better. I also got the ham, cheese, and egg sandwich...it was pretty good. No extra ingr dients, just those in the name. Plenty of sandwich...we split two between four peeps. They had a bunch of table games to keep you entertained in case you wanted to hang out I would like to try their guava and other pastries, their Caribbean sandwiches (tripleta, and bistec). Pastries and desserts were looking pretty good. I'd come me back to try, but probably would take it to go. I will try this place out again.

Yelp
I visited Bee's Pastries today for breakfast, and I must say that it didn't disappoint! The sandwich was delicious, and I also ordered a medium cappuccino with whipped cream. The service was excellent, as always.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved the tripleta sandwich and I also have for desert the quesito... so delicious!

Yelp
We walked in and it was really dim, gloomy, and empty. At first, we thought we had a made a mistake by going here, but the food was good. Yay! The only thing was my friend was served her berry croissant way before my meal, so I watched her devour her meal while I was starving and then she had to watch me eat when my meal finally came out because by then she was done. Kinda ruined the conversation and meal. Our eyes adjusted after a while and it didn't seem as gloomy by the time we left. I had the avocado egg toast which truly should not have taken so long, but it was good. I had a latte as well and it was great. Forgot to take pics because we were so hungry. But, i also don't understand the tip. You order and pay at the counter so there's zero service. They dont check on you or anything. Tip is for making my food? Makes no sense. Tip is typically based on service provided. They took my order and made it, so I do not see the reason for a tip here. No waitresses or waiters.

Yelp
The hidden gem is authentic and ambiance is comfortable and quaint. The flavors are fresh and clean, the pastries are traditional and delicious. The staff is always friendly it is always clean inside. This is a must stop by for early breakfast or even a calm lunch. I definitely recommend.

Yelp
The cafe not only excels in pastries but also boasts a stellar coffee selection. The skillfully brewed coffee enhances the overall experience, complementing the scrumptious pastries perfectly. The friendly and dedicated employees contribute significantly to the inviting atmosphere, ensuring each visit is met with warmth and genuine hospitality. This establishment truly stands out for its exceptional service and a delightful combination of heavenly pastries and top-notch coffee. I Love Bee's pastry Cafe, its simply amazing. Locally and Latina owned. Give it a try, you will be amazed of the delish food and great service.

William G.

Yelp
The food is plentiful and tasty. Ordered several plates and was surprised how tasty the food is. Reminded me of my childhood in NY. Great Puerto Rican food and Cuban sandwiches.

Yelp
Came in twice so far. First time was ok. Pastries are good and the owner was polite. Second time I came to kill time between errands and as I was waiting for a pastry an employee came out from the back wearing food prep gloves and picking her teeth! So unsanitary. I thought she would swap gloves but I could clearly see right from where I was sitting that she went right back to preparing food. It's unfortunate because this seems like such a cute little business. Hopefully the owner can talk to her employees about being sanitary.

Yelp
What a cute place! Stopped by with family for a quick bite. The place has a friendly feel - it's open, bright and cozy. It looks pretty new and well maintained. They had a more extensive menu than I expected, including sandwiches, salads, dessert and specials. I really appreciate their long list of hot teas available. We opted for empanadas and coffee. It was all good. Service was super friendly too. My only advice would be to change the high tables and chairs. They are not the most comfortable although I love the color scheme. Oh, and when you visit, look up - They have the cutest chandeliers.

Wailana L.

Yelp
Best place Love how cozy and cute it is. The food is so good love the beef empanada and the Cubano sandwich always a go to of mine. The coffee is so good. The staff is so friendly. Thank u will keeping coming to this place with my family

Yelp
Great coffee, pasteries and more. Very friendly staff. Clean restrooms. Would reccommend trying.

Yelp
Pros: 1. had their chicken(chicharrones) and waffles; chicken was excellent. 2. everything was well priced 3. their coffee was AMAZING; had the cinnamon toast latte; it comes in a mug not a plastic cup, and its super flavorful 4. their empanadas were excellent (tho I wish there was a sauce) 5. I didn't have their pastries but everything looked freshly made and delicious - ill try some at a later time Cons: 1. music was too loud (hope they change that) for me to come often to study. 2. their waffles were a little meh - nothing special; didn't taste freshly made; I left half on the plate

Arely L.

Yelp
I loved this cafe!!!!! Everyday they have something different for lunch. The drink menu is extensive and delicious. Ugh I love the authentic Puerto Rican food. The triplets sandwich is so GOOOOOOOOD. Women owned and operated. I love it! Service was good. Small and quiet cafe. Definitely returning!!!

Yelp
A Bite of home Miles Away! There is nothing better than being able to enjoy a NY Style Bacon, Egg & Cheese across the states. Bee's Pastries BEC is just like New York's iconic breakfast sandwich just add a side of French fries with your freshly squeezed orange juice! Can't wait to try more from the menu before I head back home! I love this locale, it is a wonderful enclave that invites all walks of life into its space. The owner was attentive and just overall personable. Always supporting Hispanic woman owned business!

Yelp
I had previously mentioned that the only thing I was a little disappointed in was the plastic cutlery, and I'm happy to report that they now use regular silverware! So, so happy for this (and a win for the planet!) the employees are wonderful, kind, and helpful. The food remains excellent and the pastries remain drool-worthy. If you haven't checked out their fall specials, I especially recommend the Apple Chai iced w/ oat milk. It tastes like a little bit of fall happiness!
google avatar

Gabriel M.

Yelp
Awesome cafe. Everything here is good. I don't go to the east side often but when I do I always stop here. Always fresh and they have the best white rice.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem! I had ordered the sancocho and OMG my taste buds were dancing! The pastries are huge compared to other places I've visited. And that Lavender Honey coffee was to die for. I am extremely impressed. The food and service was amazing. Keep up the amazing work Bee's!!

sienna G.

Yelp
This place was such a cute little find! Plates are WAY bigger than I expected and coffee is super tasty! Might have to get a to go box for the sandwiches! The pastries are super good too couldn't get a picture before I ate it!

Yelp
Cute little cafe tucked inside a strip mall I had no idea existed! I'm happy they had a private parking lot; we came on. Saturday and it looked like it would be packed but I think most people were there for the vet or pet groomer's. We came for breakfast, but we'll have to come back for their pastries (which is why the place exists). The girl behind the counter was nice and helpful, and the inside definitely has a cute NY/bee hive vibe. My boyfriend loved his Orange juice-they served it with ice so it was super cold. The Lavender honey latte with oat milk was fabulous! I even got another one to go. We both ordered the Bee's Breakfast (we both chose waffles & bacon, but I got Turkey bacon), and the eggs were cooked as requested and the food was really good! There was so much, though, we both got to-go boxes. Next time, we'll just share. It was crazy expensive for breakfast (around $50, though I assume it's from the upcharges for oat milk and Turkey bacon....I am not a cheap date haha), but it was delicious.

Dora G.

Yelp
Food was really good, i loved the ambiance just didn't like that it has almost all stools and it get tiring to seat in high chairs. Service was very good too.

Yelp
My Favorite Place in El Paso! Bee's Pastry Café is a five-star haven for taste buds. Last month I went to El Paso for the weekend, and I visited this excellent café three times for breakfast and lunch. The Avena was SUPERB. I had it twice. The Quesitos were huge and delicious, especially since I had never tasted one before. My favorite meal was the Chicharrones De Pollo (Chicken) & Waffles. I did not even know how much I needed this meal in my life. I also highly recommend the Bee's Breakfast, which I had with waffles, avocado, and fries. A-mazing!!! This oasis of flavor also provides a delightful ambiance with superb customer service. Make sure you visit this exceptional café and enjoy the amazingly tasty food.

Yelp
Just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful quesitos. They tasted exactly how I imagined in my head ..

Yelp
I live in SoCal but recently placed an online order with Bee's Pastry Café to be delivered to an El Paso family member's home for a funeral reception they were hosting in their home. The manager, Blanca was so professional and helpful with getting the order scheduled for a specific delivery time in between funeral services. She asked me to screenshot my order well in advance of the bakery receiving the order from Door Dash to make sure she'd have every single item I wanted on the day of the delivery. She communicated every step of the way until it was delivered. Our family and all who attended the funeral raved about the delicious pastries from Bee's Pastry Café! I'm so thankful to have been able to send such amazing comfort food to my family during such a difficult time thanks to Blanca and her crew at Bee's Pastry Café!
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a cute little spot to sit & enjoy a bite please do come here. The quesitos are to die for & the service was so good. If you are up for a little taste of Puerto Rico, I totally recommend!!

Yelp
The atmosphere walking into this coffee shop was adorable! The staff are all very sweet and kind! I LOVED the coffee. I got their lavender latte and it wasn't too sweet and you could actually taste the lavender. I can't wait to show other people who are visiting from out of town this adorable coffee shop
google avatar

Malia S.

Yelp
I've only been there a couple of times but I love it there. I always get the Lavender Honey Oat Milk Latte and it's really good. For this visit I really liked the latte. You could really taste the oat milk (so if you like oat milk you should get this) I also get the pastries from there and it's pretty good! I like the danish ones! It's good for dessert: D Also all the staff has been nice when I've went! You should definitely go if you want a nice place to hang!

Yelp
Discovered this small eatery last week & gave it a try. If you like fresh, squeezed, juices, this place will satisfy. The Bee's Breakfast plate and the NY style bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich were nothing out of the ordinary. I thought i'd try something different for dessert so i ordered a quesito, a puff pastry with a sweetened, cream cheese, filling (web site says dipped in honey) the one i was served up was missing the honey and had a stale consistency to it. I figured it was sitting for a few days (idk) the cinnamon roll was over heated in the microwave and hard to eat. We ordered the Caribbean style oatmeal, it was luke warm, no flavor except the heavy amount of cinnamon & sugar. I wanted to like this place but with the items we ordered we won't be going back. On a good note though, as we were walking out we noticed a customer eating what looked like caldo de res and she seemed satisfied. We spent over $65.00 plus tip (always tip) and left dissatisfied. Oh well :/

Charline R.

Yelp
This is the BEST PLACE IN TOWN! El mejor café en la ciudad, the best quesitos also. From the sandwiches to the pastries and the coffee everything is amazing. The staff and owner are very friendly!!!!!!

Linda D.

Yelp
Delicious food a hidden gem where the food is great and if you order an over medium egg they know what over medium means plus their pastries are too good give them 5 star review because their lunch specials is the gem ! 5 stars review

Yelp
What a super cute place. Great service & tasty food! Loved Ari's aura! Will come again thanks to her :)

Yelp
Went there early with my daughter. Elle has great customer service skills and a lovely personality. The Pineapple turnovers and the Apple Danish were delicious. The place is so inviting and clean. BUT most of all, Elle is the best, love her inviting smile!

Yelp
UPDATE: got to try the Sancocho today and it was absolutely delicious! They only serve it on the weekends but definitely authentic and amazing.

Yelp
I was traveling cross country and I stopped by, yelp said they were open and the reviews were good. As I tried to enter the door was locked? I checked the hours 7-6pm Tuesday-Sunday, a lady opened the door and said they were closed today because they have stuff to do? Seriously small business??? Atleast put a sign up stating you are closed etc. Upon exiting the parking lot a lady in a car asked me "are they closed?" Yes, I replied, she stated " I've been trying to come here for months and they have been closed!" C'mon Bee's you can do better. I am a small business owner and customer loyalty is everything, that goes both ways as a business. You want customers, yet there isn't any consistency. Sad

Yelp
My mom had an eye surgery today, so I pulled up Yelp to find a breakfast cafe work coffee nearby. It was just after 7:30 am, so I did an Open Now search and this place popped up. When I saw the delicacies they promised, I decided to try it out and I was not disappointed! This place is very unassuming because of the small shopping center it is located in, but once inside there is plenty of room and well-spaced seating. There is a large menu of drinks with milk options for everyone--oat for me!--and the recommendation was the café con leche, which offers some condensed milk too. I loved the variety of the breakfast options and settled on the yogurt and granola, which was a hearty serving for the price. I also couldn't resist having a guava and cheese pastry, but they sure make it difficult to decide because all of their pastries look divine! The service was quite friendly. The coffee and food were served promptly. They have wifi and a nice place to sit and work during the early morning. They even have some board games if that's your fancy. This place shouldn't be skipped if you're out on the East side near Joe Battle and Pellicano. Makes me wish I still lived East!

Sebastian R.

Yelp
I had come here for my birthday not expecting much but WOW. Very delicious and our server was very nice, good service. Only bad thing about this was the chairs but that's my personal opinion. I ordered the Cubano sandwich with a iced chai tea latte and HOLY that was delicious. So five stars easy. Not too expensive and fries were crispy and soft. Absolutely delicious would come again.

Gigi R.

Yelp
I went to this gem on a family vacation from NYC so walking in to see that 6 train sign and mural of my city felt like home. Service was great, they were gracious enjoy to help me order as they recommended a few items. I ended up ordering the Quesitos and WOW it was huge, delicious and warm. You could taste the love made with it in every single bite. I also had a cup of their caramel dream latte and it was a Pairing made in heaven. Reminded me of grandmas kitchen. The decor was welcoming and creative with their bee theme. The bathroom was sparkling clean. Will return again.

Noah C.

Yelp
awesome spot to try, if you want an amazingly made coffee this is the place to come, it's better than the many many coffee places i've been to. Great workers and customer service. very low wait time and delicious pastries and sandwiches. Will be coming back to try the breakfast soon. definitely definitely recommend.

Manuel B.

Yelp
Doing errands in El Paso the grape vine told us of this bakery. My wife is from PR and states her heart melted when bitting into their delicious guava pastelito. She said even for a little while she was in "Mi isla (her island)." Great job, Bee's Pastry Cafe!
google avatar

Jaki S.

Yelp
I came for the quesitos and they did not disappoint. Flaky and soft they were as expected. Sadly it was the only thing that was as expected. They serve Colombian coffee and their Cubano is served on a French roll. So I'd venture to call this place more of a fusion than an authentic Rican spot

Carlos M.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, and a very nice place. I had the Cuban sandwich which was very good and the sancocho also. They also have very good pastries, quesitos dulce de guayaba pastelillos Thank you.

Laz L.

Yelp
Best cafe con leche in El Paso, hands down. Bee's is a lovely spot on the East side that has wonderful breakfast and brunch menu. My wife and I love this place. EmpanadasPastelillos De Guayaba

Arcy U.

Yelp
Cute place, great food. Only complaint is the seating is not vertically challenged friendly, nor big girl friendly. Also, you go up to cash rep to order. We sat down and it took a couple minutes before they let us know... from the cash rep.
