Beggars Pizza

First time in Chicago and decided to try the deep dish while we were in town. Excellent

IF YOUR PIZZA IS DRY, this is the probably the reason why!!!!!Have been buying pizza here for years, today we ordered and received a pizza with pizza crust that tasted like stale old bread that was hard to chew. When I called I was told that “they did not use pizza dough from the day before for my order that it was made fresh at 3pm” and I placed my order at 5:10pm. I can assure you based on the taste and texture it was old pizza dough and not fresh nor was it over cooked just old pizza dough!!! They refused to remedy the issue and asked me to call the next day and speak to the manager then to see what they can do.

Was in the area and ordered a persona pizza. It was delicious and the person on the phone was so accommodating and sent me condiments I asked for.

Fast, friendly, delicious only downside was that my pizza could have been hotter for that wonderful cheese pull but it was warm I had to heat it up in the microwave.

First let me say that the service is good. Everyone is friendly and polite. But the pizza was not good. First, they got my order wrong. I ordered a half cheese half mushroom. They gave me all cheese. 2nd, sause is non existent. Pizza was dry. Had a hard time just swallowing it. 3rd, Pizza dough was hard. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but in my opinion, for the amount of money, probably one of the worst pizza I've ever had. We didn't even finish it. Pop N Pizza on 59th and Lawndale have a party pizza with 1 ingredient for $20. With a free soda. I spent almost $50 here. What makes me salty is that I remember Beggars pizza being really good, and I was willing to spend the extra money. Unfortunately, never again.

The man who answered the phone had very good customer service! There was a mistake with my pizza I called and they fixed it. The manger and the man who answered the was both very helpful. They sent me a new pizza and it was simply amazing. Thank you to the man who answered the phone and the manager Thank you for understanding food allergies. Have a blessed night

Great pizza and friendly service..paid more somewhere else and the pizza wasn't nearly as good as Beggars.

The pizza was tasty, and the deep dish cookie sundae was just right 😋 especially for the occasion, my son's 5th birthday. The service was Awesome, especially Otis he was polite, attentive, friendly, and charming 👍👏 The atmosphere was inviting,old school sitting. It's just a little cold, but I guess it's on a timer because it started to warm up afterward. We will definitely be back.

Best Beggars I've ever been too. Service and food was above and beyond. Pizza was fresh and delicious.

Not even close to what I was told. It was cardboard, and for 2 slices to go, I paid almost $15 and was not given a bag! So disappointed as I really wanted to like them. I heard so much of it, so why not? But not having the Chicago taste was a no-go for me. But having to pay $15 for 2 tiny slices, ummmm no! You are better going on to the next as I would never try this again, not even out of desperation. I just don't see the hype, and certainly don't u derstamd why it's priced the way it is. Just not my cup of tea.

Worst location in Chicago and service is terrible. They have a kid working there tonite who can't understand orders and messed my entire pizza up then I call back to tell him and then he puts me on. Hold after I ask for a manager. Never came back to the phone for a hour. Please don't go here

Had a thick slice and thin slice. The thin slice was cold and the worst slice I've ever had at a pizza place The thick slice was a little warmer but very underwhelming Plus hugely overpriced for what you get Won't be returning ever

Really good pizza for a chain restaurant. They're not cheap with the ingredients. Fast delivery, can't complain.

The pizza here is awesome and nice to cater for parties. After my baseball games we would eat pizza at PBO. I really recommend.

I would give them a 0 if I could. No manager on premises. Say manager will call and never does. Never cook pizzas all the way done Cheese is always white all over with a tinge of tan on the edges. Only manager is kitchen manager and he does not speak English. Guess they only want Hispanic customers!

This pizza place is good but not great. The pizza is flavorful but nothing out of this world. Our server was very attentive and she greeted us. We came here on a Saturday night and we were seated very quick. They have booths and table. Although skip the booth because they are wooden benches that are not comfortable at all. Its kid friendly since the brought a coloring paper and crayons to my daughter. For appetizers we had fried ravioli, curly fries, and mozzarella sticks. The fries were very good and so were the mozzarella sticks. But the ravioli was less than half empty on the inside. I felt like I was eating breaded pasta. Good but I wish there was a lot more filling. Our pizza had sausage, pepperoni, onion, green peppers, and pineapple. Like I said, it was flavorful with generous amount of ingredients. Like a lot which got me full with about 3 squared slices. Its was good pizza. Our wait time for the pizza was approximately 30 minutes which is not bad at all. Overall it's a good restaurant that I'd come to but not necessarily on a regular basis.

Worst slice pizza I gotten in long time and that saying something. I travel a lot. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either kinda tasteless. Millions pizza places in Chicago and surrounding . Maybe it's just slices that are not good. I could say more, but I will keep it clean let's just say the inside had a weird atmosphere to it.

it was amazing the food was delicious my dad was looking for some good pizza cause we went to something called Enzo's pizza it wasn't really the best but when we can here we loved it! it is also so close to us we will for sure come here again!

Faced with a nearly 4-hour layover at Midway, my curiosity got the best of me & I took an Uber into ChiTown because I've never been to the Windy City. Working off a tip from a Chicago-area friend who knows I like to eat local, I was on my way to a hot dog place nearby. When I said this to my driver, he looks me in the eye & says "Wait, you're going for a hot dog & not pizza? You must get some pizza too!" With that said, he took me here because they have pizza by the slice. The sausage pizza was oozing with cheese & the pepperoni was greasy & thick! All in all, it was a nice added touch to an unexpected afternoon in Chicago. I give it a 4 because it was the only pizza I had in the city & when I have a chance to go there longer, I will compare them with others to see if they can get that 5th star!

Came here to try the pizza. Walk in and there is a hostess stand, but no one there. We stood and looked around and asked the take out girl if we just sit anywhere and she said yes. Room is just boring. Booths on the side and tables in the middle with 2 tvs on each end. Curly Cheese Fries - These weren't too bad. The cheese sauce was a bit bland and lightly watery. Pizza (Half Pepperoni and Half Sausage, Mushroom and Onions) - I had one slice of the pepperoni and thought it tasted mostly like a cheese pizza. The other half was piled high with toppings. I really like the crust as it was crispy, but thought the pizza was bland. Need some zest to it. I don't think I'm a big fan of the massive topping overload with the cheese on top. It's hard to eat as most of the toppings keep falling off. Service was ok. Our waiter was nice and courteous. Only thing was when we paid the bill, he was taking forever. So my guy went up to see what was going on as there was only one other table there at the time. I guess somehow he ended up using my guys CC to pay for the other tables bill and had to figure out how to void it out and redo it. Weird! Overall, ok experience, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

The pizza is pretty solid if you eat it FRESH out the oven. The rest of the food on the menu is average at best. The sauce and cheese are delicious on their pizza, I like to order it well done.

I have had pizza before from this location with no problems but I guess it only takes one bad experience. My husband called and ordered a pizza with bacon on it. My husband went to pick the pizza up and we sat down and started to eat. Something tasted different about the pizza and all of a sudden as I started to look through the ingredients I noticed that there was something that look like lunchmeat on it which I later found out was Canadian bacon. I called back and spoke with the manager , Hever, and he told me that the person who took our order did not know the difference between Canadian bacon and regular bacon pretty much admitting fault. I asked him could we get a partial refund and instead he told us that we have to bring the pizza back and wait another hour for the pizza that we actually requested. At that point it would have been 9 pm. My husband and I were hungry so we went ahead and ate our dinner and returned the leftovers of the pizza so that they could examine it and see that we were not lowing. When my husband arrived at the store the manager Hever told him that he could not honor giving us the pizza that was already sitting and waiting for us because we did not return a full pizza. So the Bottom line is that gas is almost 5 dollars a gallon and my husband drove up to Beggars twice and we still never received the pizza we actually ordered and paid for. To add insult to injury I have had a terrible time trying to report what I feel is terrible customer service. This is what ensued in my attempts to get in touch with the general manager of the store. When my husband returned a second time with no pizza I called again and Hever told me I should call Monday and speak with the general manager. I called on Monday and someone took my information over the phone and no one called me. When I called back a few days later Ever tried to pretend that it wasn't him who I spoke with and pretty much explained that this was policy and that he felt that it was right. When I recognizes Hever's voice I called him out and he finally admitted he was not the GM but had been the manager on duty that night. He ended the conversation and I believe he has no intention on allowing me to speak to the GM. I am determined at some point to speak to a general manager. This isnt about the pizza it's just about terrible service. When you mess up someone's order you rectify that without causing them additional trouble. When my husband showed up with that leftover pizza they should have honored that. You made him drive up there twice after all for your employees mistake. I will be in touch with corporate and I will never be back to this location.

Ok. Food was good. The delivery service was good. The guy wore his mask. Good hand off service. Thanks.

Love their pizza I think I s the best in the area, only downfall is it takes them so long to deliver. They do have very nice people taking orders and are very thorough the price is right just wish they were a little quicker. Guess I'd you want the best it's worth the wait. Won't hesitate to order from there again

I love beggar's pizza. Their pizzas take a while to prepare and it is expensive, but its worth it. I suggest peperoni, jardinera, garlic and spinach. We go here all the time. Never had problems with delivery either. The turkey burger is super good too, I ordered it on a whim one time and was pleasantly surprised at how good of a burger a good pizza place makes! Just know if you're going, you'll be there for an hour. Little trick: if you order online or call any of the south side locations directly from Beverly Chicago they will say they don't deliver to you. But if you call the main line 1 (708) 385-1234 and just give them your address they'll forward your order to one of the slower blue island locations and deliver to you. It's not really that far and they're happy to have the business.

Every time I go in here to get a slice of deep dish they never have ANY ready. In fact most of the time where they keep the slices it's empty. How you gonna have a slice special and its 12:30pm for lunch and not have any available. I tend to give restaurants a 3 strikes your out kinda rule. Well, this location hit my 3rd strike. See ya, no more visits for me.

I've been to this location many times the more I go the less I like it. It could be because of the frequency in which I go or could it be that things change over time. I've altered my usual order and just order the BIG wings(price has gone up), the buffalo wings(I go for these, I love them) and just a slice, now. There is something about the cheese restaurants are using now,it's not the mozzarella I remember ... this new cheese is bland and ind of tough to me. The service is always nice, small dining area. I love the BYOB My favorite item from this place is "THE RANCH sauce"

Third time ordering. The first time I ordered the pizzas was beyond my expectations cooked well done and lots of ingredients. I gave it 5 stars. The second time, I ordered the pizza was good but not cooked well done so I gave it 4 stars then. This last time, I ordered the pizza did not exceed my expectations. The pizza was not cooked well done and the crust wasn't cook well either. There was something off with the pizza. Really wanted to have this place be the to go spot for pizza but not sure anymore. I hope they improve on my next order.

I ordered my deep dish pizza and It came burnt. I called to complaint and I was told that because I bought on a different shift, the current manager couldn't do anything. I emailed them with pictures and they never got back to me.

I parked this morning at 10:40 am to pick-up my lunch for the day. A black car parked very close to my passenger door. A little angry midget of a man jumped out and slammed his door into mine with his Beggars Pizza shirt on. I later saw him opening the door for Employees. He's a manager! Admittedly, I didn't realize I was parked too far to the right, but really. It must be miserable working at Beggars!!! Lol!

Had dinner here last night for the second time ever. Their pizza is very good and the server (Marylou) was great. Only disappointment was that they do not serve alcohol. Fortunately, there's a Walgreens across the street for that. Location has a sports bar feel, but dining room is small and can imagine it can get noisy when busy. I recommend the buffalo wings and the deep dish pizza. Great crust.

They microwaved the pizza. I can't believe it but they did. You may say, "but how do you know?" The pizza was sticking to the plate as it does when you microwave it, the pizza crust was soft, For anyone that has had beggars they know that the crust is not just soft, it has texture. Shame on you Beggar's

Horrible, Horrible service. We gave the place a chance since it's new in the neighborhood. Big Mistake. On arrival, I saw photocopy signs stating - Please wait to be seated by the hostess. (First sign that it wasn't going to be a good experience.) The "hostess" met us @ the door chewing her dinner (ewww). Sat down, no menus provided and awaited another server to greet us. He handed the menus and advised he was not our server for the night. Mind you, there were only 4 other people in the place. He eventually took order. Then our server/hostess finally arrived, she got in my face while speaking with me (not sure if she ever heard about personal space), it was so weird. She then followed to take our order again. They took forever to bring the food out. The only reason we ordered the burgers was b/c it was noted that the pizza took 30minutes to prepare, we were hoping to cut some time. We ordered 3 burgers and an order of chicken fingers and of course everyone ordered drinks. Our bill came out to be $50 dollars! I can't believe I paid $50 bucks @ a pizza joint. The even charged extra for asking for curly fries vs. regular fries. I felt bad for the others who arrived after we did. There was a gentleman dining alone that arrived shortly after we did. Another group of 5 arrived well after the man and received their meal well in advanced. Poor man was complaining on what the delay was. I guarantee this place will not be open there within 1-2 years. Guaranteed. Oh and BTW the food was not anything great.

The pizza was not bad at all.....Service was!! We decided to try had Beggars new location for dinner with a Groupon. We were semi greeted by the waitress. Could hardly hear here. We sat down our menus given. No, "welcome to Beggars my names is ______". We had to ask for water first of all. Place was not so busy. Our waitress finally came up and did not ask if we were ready or questions. She just stood there with an empty lost face. We order the sampler platter. Which had mini tacos, jalapenos poppers, mozzarella sticks and fried ravioli. We asked the if the poppers had cream cheese. she said yes, but on the side! Really? She she didn't know what or how it was served. So I had to ask her to make sure she knew what we were asking. Also ordered, the chili, large pizza, and a kids spaghetti...after taking our order on two sheets. 15 minutes later she came to ask if we wanted onions and cheese on the chili.....Our appetizers and chili came out about 20minutes or so which normally about 10-15 minutes else where. Never were we asked if we needed anything. We had to ask for napkins and several times for refills on water. I would say there may have been about 5 other tables and two waitresses. Pizza came and spaghetti as well after asking to bring before the pizza for my daughter. Pizza was actually good. I disagree with the frozen flavor. The pizza had the right amount of toppings and the sauce was good as well. The pizza had a taste between Home Run Inn & Falcos. Chili was very good, but I would skip the sampler platter. You get four jalapeno poppers (2 cheese & 2 cream cheese when we asked for all cream cheese), 3 mozzarella sticks, 4 fried ravioli (2 meat & 2 cheese) and 4 mini tacos. Cheese and marinara sauce on the side. The fried ravioli were not that good. At check time we were charged for my daughters drink which we never got. It was still brought out without even asking and still charged for it. Other than that I may order Pizza from them again but for take out. If they want to stay open and have repeat dine in customer their service needs to be improved tremendously. Our waitress may have been new to the restaurant or her first job in the field. She needs to study up on the menu and maybe shadow someone. My grade: Pizza = B ... Service = D-

Three stars because the service was really good. Although we waited the allotted 40 minutes for a deep dish pie, it still somehow managed to arrive at our table warm rather than piping hot. This is Chicago and when it comes to pizza you have to BRING IT. Plain and simple. Too much competition. Beggars was certainly edible but there is far better pizza to be had in Chi Town! I'm not trippin'; I'm just saying....

SKIP IT!!! I love pizza, but NOT beggar's! I've tried pizza from here to NY to Italy, and this is not good pizza! We ordered thin crust and basically it just tasted like frozen pizza, well no let me take that back frozen pizza is better! Honestly I wanted to try it, but I think this was my first and last time I eat here. This pizza is like the pizza by the slice you buy at a gas station or some joint where you know the pizza has been sitting there for a while! We also ordered rib tips- YUCK! They tasted like pork rinds covered in BBQ sauce! Nasty! I ordered Italian beef for my parents, and they said they were too dry! I also ordered gravy sauce on the side just in case and they forgot to put it in the bag even though I paid extra for it. The cheese fries were the only thing that was good, but not worth returning for. If you want good pizza in this area stick with Giordano's or Villa Rosa! YUM!

WHY is this place so low rated???!!! Their pizza is SOOO GOOD!! I've waited and ordered from them for well over a year and never had anything less than exceptional pizza. Delivery has always been on time too! I've had a few appetizers from them and they're good too!! They really do lay it on thick! The cheese is good quality. It's melty and good. Sauce and crust are good too. Take it from me. I'm a native Chicagoan and professional chef of 20 years. This pizza is badass. Mind you I've never had their deep dish so I'm only talking about their thin crust...though it's not that thin! Order from here. You won't regret it.

Carry out order was ready when I arrived. The young man that took care of me was on point. Quick and friendly service. Pizza was excellent.

Food is great service is average, but for 1 server for the whole place not horrible I have been before and I will be back

I'm so surprised the rating of this place is so bad but I always pick up which is probably why I'm such a satisfied customer. I usually always get a bacon and pepperoni pizza which has never disapointed me. I once tried the winglets and they were good, a bit spicy but nothing a little ranch can't fix. I have never dined in but everytime I've picked up a pizza the staff was always friendly and down to earth. Just wish they were open later but I'm used to that here in the dirty South...

I've only had Beggars one other time and it was a while back at a far South Suburban location. I'll give Beggars one thing and that is they are consistent (it tasted exactly as I remembered)...however, in this case consistency is not always a virtue as this pizza is pretty average. I only came here bc I was getting new tires at a shop up the street and it was lunch time, Beggars pretty much the only option. By all appearances the place is pretty new, the inside was beyont clean. I was gonna get a regular pizza but then saw they had slices for take away avail and when I asked if I could get a slice and eat in? Yes. I happened to be on the internet at the time and there was a talk thread about Mozz sticks so that prompted me to get an order and chime in. These were a 2.5 star at best, far getter out there. End of, I can't say i'll be back to a Beggars again, too many other pizza places are superior.

When I am in the South Side visiting my sister, I really enjoy getting pizza from this place. We usually call ahead and carry-out, so we never had any issues with delivery. For being such a new place, it looks a bit depressing in the dining area. It is a great for value for the price, and they do lay it on thick! ;-)

We really enjoyed this pizza! We had dined in there before, a couple years ago, and decided to order a Beggars Pizza. It was delivered by uber eats. Just like at the ball park! Delivered super-hot, though it was delivered to apartment about 2 miles away. We ordered thin crust: crust good, sauce good, cheese perfect. Overall it was a really good pizza. We might try carry out there in the future. We liked it better than about 4 other local pizza places/chains we had ordered from recently, which were just not as good. I would love to know what the lunch-express menu is. If anyone there reads this, can you post your lunch express menu on yelp or your page? Thanks.

Never been inside so I can't comment on it. Delivery takes forever, food arrived cold, and pizza hardly had any sauce. Tried it again to give them another chance. Big mistake. Same as before, super slow delivery and crappy pizza. I'm very disappointed. Bad food, bad service and super pricey. Never again.

This location is not the best. I love beggars and this is by far thee worst pizza I've had in over 20yrs from them. I kno the saying is "we lay it on thick" but I had basically all cheese pizza with minimum sauce and toppings. Not only that, they didn't even layer the cheese to the perimeter of the crust. It was just in the middle. It was a good inch and a half of just dough on the edges. Won't be back here. I'll stick to blue island and oak forest locations.

Two Stars for the delicious food they make here. Some of the best sandwiches and pizza in the area IMO, and I love Beggars in general. Their pizza at Sox Park is he best thing that could have happened for Chicago baseball! Unfortunately this location on Cicero suffers from bad management and hiring. Whoever runs the show here obviously doesn't vet their employees very well during interviews and we have received very below average service from them for years. I don't think we've ever received a delivery that wasn't missing something we ordered. We actually started having to drive there and pickup our orders, out of frustration, just to make sure they included ever sauce and pizza slice we ordered online or over the phone. Most of the people who work here seem to be of the 16-18 year old variety and don't seem to care much about whether they properly complete orders or not. We've had employees and drivers argue with us that they definitely gave us the marinara we ordered, when they definitely did not. As if we'd call back to lie about a 50 cent cup of marinara when we just spent $40 on a pizza and bread sticks. We've had drivers need to stop back 3 times because they just can't seem to bring us every item we have a receipt for. It's really ridiculous. After calling the store to speak with a manager because the driver accused us of lying about this phantom marinara, we had some kid tell us, "Heres what I'm gonna do for you, I'll have a driver bring you more marinara." Oh thanks kid, it was on our original order, and now the bread sticks that were dropped off a half hour ago are cold, and the meal was ruined due to having to fight with staff just to get what we paid for. The food is really great (love their buffalo sauce!), but the management here needs to take some control and hire people who know what they're doing. The place is getting a bad rap.

Very slow service. Especially for my family to be the only one here. Hour wait for the pizza, who else are they cooking for? The place is BYOB, but they never brought out an ice bucket. Wish I would have checked the reviews prior too, the pizza was cool...nothing to brag about, but the service needs serious improvement. Someone's kid was running through the kitchen. There is no heat, no music, no tv, as a matter of fact no noise in this facility. We had to eat with our coats on and use our cell phones for music. Weird!

1 Star is generous! They need to close this location. Ordered a pizza to go, got home and it looked and tasted like cardboard. Never going back!

Lived in this area my entire life. It is actually pretty good pizza. A bit on the pricey side, but if you can afford to spend a little extra money it was worth it. No more expense than HR Inn, and I think better then HR Inn and other area pizza places. Oh and BTW leave the HS kids out of the reviews, it's a PIZZA place people... and one day your teenagers are going to need jobs too!

The only good thing about the place is the delivery guys the people that answer the phone are rude and don't give you no time to order like there mad you.

If there was a negative rating for this place i would give it, first time here for a friend's birthday. Service was average but was shocked when we went to pay and where told we could not pay until we return the two wine glasses we used, AS IF WE WERE GOING TO RUN OFF WITH THEM!!!! never will I visit this establishment again. Truly disappointed.....

It's good pizza, but their dine in area is so dirty. I don't want to eat pizza with dead flies

Everything here is very good. They sell stuffed slices of pizza here which are very filling for 5$. They also have other types of pizzas by the slice. Service could improve but i rate at a 3 only because it takes them guys a while to realize your even there guys are on there phones and flirting with the woman staff here. They can care less about service.

Pretty overpriced for a large pizza being $36 & come out smaller than I've ussually had. It's bland with no flavor really. Ehh wouldn't recommend ‍

I did not receive what I ordered. I was over charged by 14 dollars for a 9 dollar sandwich. Took 5 minutes of my time for them to try to fix problem, which they never did. My card was overcharged and they had to pay me back the difference in cash.

My first experience with this location was a few days ago. And it was with slices. Now, I love Beggar's. Never disappointed.But I was amazed that they have been there 4 months without me hearing about it. How about passing out some flyers, like the good old days? To make things worse, they have no protruding sign on Cicero OR 51st. I was LOOKING for the place and almost passed it up.The place was empty at 1PM and the kitchen help looked bored(or scared that they might be out of a job soon). I got two slices of what I thought was deep dish but turned out to be stuffed. The good news is that they apparently cook the stuffed without sauce on top so the top layer of dough actually cooks and browns, and THEN put sauce on. The slices were DRY and the sauce on top was BLAND. This is coming from a guy that has eaten spoonfuls of tomato paste and puree. Absolutely no flavor.Other Beggars' slices are running out of the sides with cheesy goodness.Not here. I could've eaten it in all-white and not have to worry. I thought owning a franchise would demand strict adherence to recipes, but maybe not. This isn't the Beggar's I've had at 3 or 4 other locations. Everything is brand new. I hate to see it close down in 2 months. Someone please tell the owner.
