The Best Central Asian and Middle Eastern Kebabs in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"The understated strip mall location and simple interior of Restaurant Persia on St. Jacques in NDG belies some formidable culinary delights within (not to mention the owners’ caring approach). Homemade specials rotate throughout the week, with the halal kebabs served daily. Be sure to try the moist kobideh (minced lamb) kebab or the barg (cubed lamb) option, both served with fluffy saffron rice. Fall-off-the-bone lamb shanks are featured as a special, too, served with herbed rice laden with dill and fava beans: When winter really hits, this will warm you from the inside out." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

2 Dozen of Montreal’s Best Middle Eastern Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"This family-run restaurant specializes in home-style Iranian fare. The classic lines and unobtrusive colours of the interior complement the bright colours of saffron and pomegranate on the plates, and although it’s tucked away inconspicuously in a mall on St-Jacques, it’s a good find for those who know where to look." - Karin Murray-Bergquist

From the moment we walked in, everything was perfect. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and very welcoming. The food is outstanding. Every dish was full of rich, authentic Iranian flavors and cooked to perfection. The kebabs were juicy and tender, the rice was fragrant, and the portions were very generous. If you are looking for authentic Iranian cuisine in Montreal, Behesht is a must-visit. High-quality food, excellent service, and a lovely ambiance. We will definitely be coming back again and again! Highly recommended 🌿🍽️💚

The atmosphere and decoration of the restaurant were really nice, warm, stylish, and a pleasant place to sit. But unfortunately, the food didn’t meet my expectations. The koobideh was not good, and the mirza ghasemi tasted more like canned eggplant rather than the real, smoky, BBQ-style mirza ghasemi that it should be. I really liked the vibe of the place, but the quality of the dishes needs improvement.

I LOVE IT REALLY MUCH is near my house and I go often the decoration is really cozy it remind me of Iran 🥺food is good 😌 will Come again . I shared few pictures of how many times I went I like the taste of kabab because it dosent taste 🐑 lamb and I am not used to this since I grew up in Canada although most iranien love when it taste lamb

The mixed chicken and beef skewers are delicious and affordable. They even include a soup in the price. For the price, it is extremely filling. The black tea is also nice and soothing after the meal. Great restaurant to eat!

Google
Behesht in Montreal is such a wonderful Persian restaurant and one of our favorite food spots in the city ❤️‍🔥. The kababs were amazing, we had chenjeh, barg, kobideh, and joje torsh, and all of them were delicious. The joje torsh was my favorite, so juicy and full of flavor. The menu was also very rich with lots of choices, and we loved that each dish came with a side of salad or soup plus a piece of tahdig (which was so good!). The staff were super nice and friendly, and the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. We also really liked the decoration, they’ve added little touches of traditional Persian architecture that made the place feel extra cozy and unique. Overall, it was such a great experience, and we’ll definitely be back when we’re in Montreal again.

I’d like to share some feedback about my recent visit. The kebab did not meet expectations, it lacked the grilled, smoky flavor typical of BBQ kebabs and instead tasted more like unseasoned ground meat. The rice, however, was excellent and was the highlight of the meal. The dining environment could also be improved. The restaurant was quite hot, and the smell of the food lingered strongly on my clothes after leaving. In addition, it took an unusually long time to receive the bill, and staff seemed inattentive during that process.

Google
Great food - high quality meat and ingredients. I’d skip the spiced koobideh, as it tasted like added hot sauce instead of chillies. Compared to Toronto, this is quite pricey for the same portions. We had friendly staff, there wasn’t much of a wait, and plenty of parking at the location.

Google
What impressed me the most about the restaurant was its beautiful ambiance — from the lovely paintings on the walls to the elegant decorations and the soft traditional Iranian music playing in the background. As for the food, I really enjoyed it. It was tasty, the portion sizes were just right, and overall, I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5. We ordered Kabab Torsh and Koobideh, both of which were well-prepared. The meal came with a choice of salad or soup, and it ended nicely with a cup of tea. Also, the lady who served our food was very kind and friendly, which made the experience more pleasant.

Yelp
I was looking for some Persian food and this one showed up in my proximity. I decided to stop by. Super nice staff, specially the gentleman greeting the guest. I ordered the Bakhtiari dish but instead of rice, I requested salad. It was a great choice and I was very happy with the quality of the food. Very tasty and seasoned well. I also tried their soup as a pre-course which was also very delicious. I'll certainly want to try this place again.

Yelp
Very solid take out Persian food. Kabobs were moist and tasty, plentiful rice, all the stews were flavorful and well done. Great take out cant speak to the dine in but i would definitely recommend and will return next time in Montreal.

Yelp
Food is excellent, the plates are plentiful. A local neighborhood gem. Worth a visit although it is not in a typical tourist area.

Yelp
Delicious Persian restaurant! Meats are cooked really well with high quality ingredients. The aroma of the rice hits you as soon as you walk into this lovely establishment. Staff members are super friendly and the owner even comes by the tables to ask for feedback on how they can improve. Great place for an authentic Persian meal!

Yelp
Excellent traditionally yet tastefully decorated restaurant in the suburbs of Montreal. Presentation is the hip new traditional way with copper bowls, plates and serving dishes. The four skewer family meal was fairly large and tasted good. The. Chenjeh was a bit tougher than I would've liked, but overall the quality was good and the The special came with your choice of soup or salad, and a fairly large side of hummus. Easily enough for two, if not three people. The service was very polite, but I would say they were under staffed with two waiters and one bus boy for more than 10 tables.

Yelp
Our family was on a 5 day trip to Montreal and we came here twice, the food was amazing and the service was exceptional The quality of the meat was so good. Highly recommend this place is you are looking for amazing Persian food.

Yelp
5 stars is an insult to this fabulous place. Food was absolutely amazing. Their Barg kebab is even better than Raffi in CA, which is arguably known to be the best in the US. The kal-kabab and zeytoon-parvardeh were among the best I have ever tried. Music was upbeat, the restaurant is nicely nicely decorated, and staff were polite and attentive. My only recommendation to management is thinking about turning their business into a chain, and opening other branches in large cities in North America.

Yelp
Just finished dinner here while visiting Montréal. I wish I had taken pictures but was too excited & greedy A very cozy place, really relaxed but attentive service! Tried the lamb shank with bhaghali polo & two platters of their different kababs. The food here is phenomenal! Tender meat, the rice was so flavorful & we loved the simple but very fresh house salad. I wish I had a fridge to take my leftovers home the portions are so generous! Prices are great. Shout out to Parsa & Amir our servers they were hilarious Had a blast here can't wait to visit & eat here again!

Yelp
This is the place to go for high quality Persian food and outstanding kabobs, especially the barg. Came with my Persian in-laws and they raved. In fact, we ate here Saturday. Then returned on Monday, it was that good. Has parking in front of restaurant. Interior is cute and quaint.

Yelp
Simply amazing Persian/Iranian food in a beautiful setting. Restaurant is clean and well decorated and the food is UHmazzzzing. From the Mirza Ghasemi Eggplant dip, to the Barg Kabob, the Chicken Kabob, to the Kabob Torsh -- everything tasted fresh, moist and delicious. Great large portions! Will positively return to this wonderful restaurant. The service was most cordial and professional. Wish they had better dessert options ... maybe in the future. Thanks for a MOST marvelous gastronomic experience

Yelp
Nice classic Persian food. Really good tea. Timely service and reasonable price. Attached is a picture of my dad's reaction to sipping the tea.

Yelp
This place is very popular with high ratings. We were thinking about trying it for such a long time. It was our first time today. I wish we started off with a great first impression. We made a reservation, showed up a little late, 3 little kiddos :) apparently they gave our table away. It happens, I would understand it. I am assuming the owner told us, 10min wait. We were waiting outside for at least 20mins. Then we went in to wait in the hallway. He came and told us 15 more minutes of wait time. He said other guests were ordering more dessert. I told him he said the same thing 20 minutes ago, then he became very aggressive, at which point I was shocked. My daughter really wanted to try the kababs, that is why I swallowed all the comments and waited. We eventually sit outside, which I wouldn't prefer because of mosquitoes, We ordered the food and waited for a very long time again. Maybe today wasn't our day, we should go somewhere else. Food came in, protein size is relatively small compared to pictures. A lot of rice though. It is juicy. We ordered baklava too. 2 pieces came. In terms of hospitality I will never go back. You can eat food everywhere but having a nice time is very important for me. I want to enjoy, not just feed myself. After all of these, they offered the baklava on the house. I don't mind paying my own food, though I don't think this would do it. Good luck to this place, I hope they could improve their people's skills.

Yelp
Bread was not fresh, quality of rice was not good, Jojeh Kebab was not sour and staff didn't bring Lime, I asked them bring fresh union but they didn't. Also, Tahdig made by bread not by rice and was cold. Staff should be trained and at least one time ask is everything ok? But didn't.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was great. Their lentil soup was so tasty and the decor was and felt authentic. Very good Persian food
