The Best Doughnut Shops in Detroit | Eater Detroit

"This on-the-move beignet truck serves New Orleans-style fritters and “cronets,” its take on the cronut. Topped with powdered sugar and drizzled with everything from chocolate to raspberry sauce, they’re a sure ticket to doughnut bliss. Beignets 2 Go is a staple of Eastern Market, and you can usually find it near Shed 5 on the weekends." - Danny Palumbo

Google
I love grabbing these every Saturday during my Easter Market flower run. Always hot, yummy, and extra powdery. Reminds me of New Orleans♥️.

Google
Very similar to Cafe du Monde The beignets were great but not worth it for $8. The portions were pretty small.

Google
New Orleans style beignets in Detroit! Had them from their food truck at Eastern Market in Detroit. Staff weren't really friendly but not a big deal. The beignets were soft with a nice crispy crunch to the outside. Perfectly cooked. They give a generous amount of powdered sugar but they only sprinkle on top as opposed to rolling them. This is the traditional way but I prefer them completely coated while they are still hot so it sticks. Still really good. Highly recommend if you see them in Detroit.

An unexpected (and delicious!) New Orleans style surprise! We found the Beignets2Go food truck while visiting the Eastern Market. Absolutely loved our chicory coffee and beignacons (Beignets sprinkled with chopped bacon!) Wishing you guys best of luck 👍💕☕🍩🥓😋

Greg M.

Google
The cafe au lait was almost all milk. I barely tasted the coffee and chicory.

Heather B.

Google
Makes me feel like I’m back in New Orleans... Delicious, warm, and dangerously sugary—just like a beignet should be. I search it out every time I’m at the Eastern Market. Love it!

Evelyn K.

Google
Beignets 2 Go is one of the highlights of the DCFC matches for us! Always made fresh to order, they are wonderful “loaded” with raspberry and chocolate sauce for an added layer of decadence!

Katy S.

Google
It’s a Saturday morning tradition to walk my dog or go for a jog, and then stop by for some INSANELY GOOD beignets.

Yelp
The food was fine, fresh and hot, but their menu link showed the prices are $5 for 4 traditional beignets, but I was charged $7 for three. (I looked on the site to verify I wasn't crazy. Their sign was turned around because of the rain and didn't want to get further soaked.) I wasn't given a total, and all the iPad showed me when he had it facing me was the amount to tip. $25 for 9 small beignets including tip is a bit too much, but now I know to look the next time I think about coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolute best beignets you can get outside of Nee Orleans! I love the ones with bacon added
google avatar

Becca W.

Yelp
Yum. Just happened to be around when they opened in downtown Hamtramck. Never had one before so decided to try. Totally worth the price he made it on spot. The man who helped us was super nice and friendly. Definitely will come back for more.

Yelp
I ordered the chocolate sauce. Good taste and reasonably priced. The wait time was long but expected for a food truck. Suggest to eat them immediately while their hot. I will likely have them again to taste the raspberry sauce the next time I'm at eastern market.
google avatar

Zachary C.

Yelp
Holy moly the guy in the truck hooked us up with these delicious new orleans-style french donuts! They were so full of flavor and were so fluffy! They're down here in hamtramck every sunday!
google avatar

Kaela K.

Yelp
Had the original beignets! The service was quick - we did stop in at the end of the day so we were the only ones in line. The beignets were so fresh and warm. The dough was crispy yet soft. Will always go back here at EM!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Constant line over here! This food truck was the hit at Eastern market! My sister had tried it before and recommended it. It's a good deal. 4 traditional beignets for $5. Not bad! You can also get some with bacon. They also serve coffee. They told me it was a 5 minute wait but I got them in less than 20 seconds. Yummy! There was a nice crunch to them. It's not as pillowy as the ones at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans but these are still pretty fantastic! I'd love to try other stuff on their menu next time. My sister said they are always at Eastern Market.

Yelp
'twas a Tuesday morning & we we're heading to the Roasting Plant before work to pick up some coffee. We run into this hidden treasure that I was on the hunt for a few years back. One beignet and one cronut. It was amazing. So soft, tasteful & fluffy. The cronut was so flavorful for just simple being covered in powdered sugar. That was definitely amazing. The beignets with the raspberry sauce are mouthwatering. The service was excellent wish I knew the gentleman's name he was very friendly. If you're fortunate to ever run into this truck, don't hesitate to buy some. Even if you're full! If you don't think you'll run into this truck, it's worth going online and finding where it will be! Hopefully, we run into each other soon.
google avatar

Tiana T.

Yelp
I adore them. Simply adore them. Very delectable. The only negative, if I can call it one, is that you have to catch them before they run out.
google avatar

Derek F.

Yelp
When you see someone covered in powdered sugar with a complete look of happiness and fried satisfaction you know they just hit the beignet truck, don't miss your chance, they are excellent. This time I went for the beignets with bacon and the bacon, powdered sugar and donut all sing together in your mouth and it's a show you must try, it was great. The truck is parked at keyworth stadium for most DCFC games, but if you see the truck don't miss it and go for the beignets w bacon $7 worth every penny.

Joel S.

Yelp
Whenever we come across the beignet truck, it literally makes my day. You can find where they will be on their website calendar. Been going here for years, amazing every time! Would recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Not bad at all! Certainly the best beignet my NOLA-born husband/kid have been able to find since I relocated them up north. I can't say it was the best beignet ever, but better than anything else one can find in Michigan/Ontario, for sure. Also a good deal. Just be sure to factor in a bit of a wait, as they are cooked to order, and there is always a line.
google avatar

Torrie M.

Yelp
Beignets 2 Go brings a taste of NOLA to the D! I have been following this food truck on Twitter for sometime, taking note of the various locations they frequent. I found that Eastern Market was a regular staple, and one Saturday morning I set off to try my first beignet. The truck was located in Shed 4, among other great food trucks. I couldn't decided between the traditional beignet or the beignacons! In the end, bacon always wins so I ordered the beignacons and a Cafe Au Lait with Vanilla. You get four beignets, covered in powdered sugar and sprinkled with bacon. Your taste buds will absolutely thank you! They were hot, soft, and delicious! My friends tried the plain beignets along with the cronut sandwich. The cronut sandwich features cheddar cheese and bacon! The Cafe Au Lait was pefect! No extra cream or sweetener was needed! This was a first for me! If you want a taste of the big easy but you can't get to New Orleans, check out Beignets 2 Go! They are friendly, reasonably priced, and mmm mmm good!!
google avatar

Vivian S.

Yelp
I'm a beignets freak. I will eat these any time, any day, all day. I will never say no!! If you're wondering what a beignet is, it's super simple. It's a French pastry that's literally sweet dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. Of course there are variations, you can add chocolate drizzle, bacon, caramel! You can really do whatever you want, however I L O V E it traditional! If you've ever been to New Orleans, you know Cafe Du Monde is the famous spot for beignets. Beignets 2 Go is the closest you're going to get when in Detroit!!
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
Okay, I know it might seem weird raving about a food truck, but I see that I'm not alone. In fact, I would suggest finding this one early in your day or you'll have quite a wait, since it is very popular. The beignets are quite good, surprisingly authentic, and pair well with an iced mocha.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for years. Finally got to check it out at Eastern Market. Pretty cheap for 4 pieces (thats a single order). They are light, soft on the inside, with plenty of powdered sugar on top.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
I moved here from New Orleans so I know beignets. I've been trying to hunt this food truck down for months. I was in the Eastern Market on Christmas Eve and just happened to drive by and there it was. I promptly threw the car in reverse and illegally parked as near the truck as I could. Of course, I got the traditional beignets but I also ordered a cronut with cheddar cheese and bacon. An order includes four beignets loaded with powdered sugar, and one cronut is in its order. Everything tasted great and probably as close to New Orleans beignets as you'll ever get outside of Louisiana. Pricing is on the high end, but I will make the sacrifice for the chance to get this sugary goodness this far from the Bayou.
google avatar

Carolen M.

Yelp
Oh let's not be frou frou about it. They're freshly fried donuts with toppings and on a super cold wintery day, it hit the spot while we were walking around the market. The food truck was just outside and ordered quick as there was no line. I took a bite and it was sinfully delicious. It was crispy and chewy and pillowy and WARM. The sweetness of the chocolate and powdered sugar just melted into them. I was just in deep fried goodness heaven.
google avatar

Yelp
Happy National Donut Day! In honor of this truly American holiday, I'm reviewing a French treat. It makes good sense because of this little known fact: In return for their financial and military aid during the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress paid the French in pastry dough. That's misleading, not because it isn't true, but only because Beignets ("ben yay") are a "New Orleans-style" French donut. Beignets are deep fried balls of dough, served hot and fresh for that perfect crisp outside and doughy inside. They are dusted with powdered sugar, and if you are lucky enough, and you are standing in just the right direction, the wind may also dust you with powdered sugar. Just a tip: Don't wear black and eat beignets on a windy day. ;) I particularly like that their truck is at Eastern Market on Saturdays so that after you've purchased all of your fruits and vegetables you can tell yourself, "Just one little treat before I eat like a perfect bird for the rest of the week!" In case it wasn't clear, these donuts are really good. Make sure you eat them right away when they're piping hot, because that's when they're truly glorious. Four for $4.

Yelp
It's a really good thing this truck isn't regularly parked at any place near my house because I would have a big problem. Like, powdered sugar all over my nose, twitching like what stuff was a little something else, shoving these delightfully fried pillows in my face at warp speed kind of problem. Actually, now that I think about it that sounds awesome and I'm sad that it ISN'T a thing that is happening in my life right now and on the regular. A blessing and a curse, I suppose. Every time I've had the pleasure of trying this truck it's been at Eastern Market. Not sure if they set up any place else but EM is a good bet. They serve up the beignets plain (powdered sugar), with raspberry sauce (a nice tart contrast), chocolate (when you need it sweeter!), raspberry AND chocolate (OMG) or with bacon (salty/sweet). I've done all but the bacon and I have to say you can't go wrong with any option. Just depends on what you're in the mood for. Servings are generous (4 large beignets per) and made to order. As such, it can be a bit of a wait to get them but I assure you it is worth it. When they get to you they are piping hot, crispy, and oh so wonderful. They also serve cronets, their take on the fried croissant tren, and while I've not yet tried them (sadness) I have heard that they are a religious experience. Also served plain or with chocolate, raspberry, or bacon. Thirsty? Get a milk (the perfect accompaniment) or get seriously NOLA and order the chicory coffee.

Yelp
I dare you to find a better food than fried dough. It's one of those gifts that I cherish. These are no exceptions. Their original is where to start. Four deliciously fried donuts, excellent in size, and a nice helping of powdered sugar. Try to eat them slowly because in no time, you will realize all four are gone. I can't wait to follow this truck around and try all their other menu items.
google avatar

Adrienne A.

Yelp
Seriously, these beignets are better than what you can get in New Orleans. I've been to New Orleans twice, and each time found the beignets to be better here. They're served piping hot and slightly crisp on the outside and soft and airy but not too doughy on the inside. Perfection! At $5 for 4, they're slightly pricier than Cafe du Monde (roughly $3 for 3), but so worth it!
google avatar

Carol W.

Yelp
I've never had Beignets from New Orleans but I would imagine they would taste just like the ones from Beignets 2 Go. These little miracle fluffs MELT in your mouth and change your perspective for the rest of the weekend.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
I was very surprised, the beignets are delicious, light & fluffy and very flavorful. I tried the beignets topped with bacon and powdered sugar. Yes, I will try them again. It came with four beignets for $6.00
google avatar

Faith C.

Yelp
I went to shed 5 looking for another truck and after seeing the crowd waiting for beignets, I had to try them. They were amazing!! Hot and made to order. I will be back to shed 5 every Sunday after church to have beignets!

Grace C.

Yelp
I crave these beignets. It's probably the best pastry I've ever had. Served hot, loaded with powder sugar, and immediately enters my mouth. Powered sugar everywhere! I love it!

Sharol S.

Yelp
I had never tried a Beignet before. I had the dark chocolate and raspberry beignet. It was so delicious! I still think about it! Looking forward to the next time I am at Eastern Market and I hope they are there! The owners were so nice and pleasant! I highly recommend them!

Yelp
This is a perfect example of why I wish we could rate places with different stars for food/product and seperate for service. We were at Eastern Market on a Saturday morning. I had been wanting to try this truck for a long time and we finally had a chance to give it a shot! Went for the classic beignets. Really good and loaded with powdered sugar! They came out hot, with a crisp crust, and chewy middle. Perfect! 5 star product. Now on to the service. I get one of the perks of having a food truck is not having to deal with "front of house" issues like a brick and moarter location, but you still have to keep things organized. After waiting in line we placed our order, we were told to get in another line along the truck. A "pick up" line. It was a busy Saturday morning and only a few seats open. There was a couple with a few kids. Wife ordered and was in line. While she waited she went to go help the husband with the kids and get them situtated. While she was gone, the person in front of her and behind her got their orders. She walked up and said " I ordered XXXX, but I had to walk away. Did you call my order?" very polite and super nice. The guy barks at her saying she needed to stay in line because thats how to keep the orders going. The he leans out the window and barks at everyone else to stay in line. He said "I don't know your order, you have to stay in line otherwise I dont know what you had." Would it kill you to take a name?! We ordered the 4 piece order of beignets. Our turn comes up and he yells "A single! Who ordered a single!?" my friend that I was with said "Is it a single beignet, or a single order?". The food was prompty shoved out the window to us and we got the eye roll like we are idiots. Sorry we don't know your lingo! Long story short, awesome food. It wouldn't kill you to be a little more polite to your customers and take a name or two with the orders!

Yelp
I have an addiction. The kind of addiction that hits you out of nowhere and that makes your mind go blank of all else. And that thing left for me is beignets. Ever since the first moment I tried a beignet at Cafe Du Monde (http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-du-monde-new-orleans-6), I've been hooked. Unfortunately there is no Cafe Du Monde in Detroit. And no matter how many times I've tried to replicate this beautiful, puffy pastry (One time even resulting in a house fire)- I have been unsuccessful. So I have been quite sad. But then like a lightning bolt, I was suddenly been struck down with this beignet affliction. And all it took was seeing one advertisement for this mystical beignet truck. And now every Saturday as soon as my eyes open, they are wide with hope of beignets. But for real- Great beignets. Very similar to the ones I've had in NOLA. Huge portions and I'm not positive, but I think the coffee they have is even chickory coffee. I am a repeat offender. I can't stop and I won't stop.
google avatar

Charlie A.

Yelp
Seriously delicious. One of my friends got a cronacon (croissant + donut + bacon) from their food truck at Eastern Market when we were there together. Fast forward ten minutes, and all four of us had ordered our own because it was so delicious. I ordered a second. It's that kind of good.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
My favorite food truck in the CITY. 1. I love listening to people try and pronounce beignet while in line. It makes for a hilarious wait. 60% of the time, it works everytime to crack me up. 2. Beignets are fantastic. These fluffy, sugar powdered, hot balls of goodness are amazing. I always get bacon and cheese on my beignets and they make for a great split snack for two! 3. Cronets are great as well. A little overpriced for a single cronet, but worth the try! Flaky and gooey on the inside, my cronet was so good I went for a second on the spot. Watch out, once you go beignet or cronet, you don't go back. You will find yourself craving these heavenly golden pastries ALL THE TIME.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Love Beignets (food truck) at Eastern Market! 4 yummy warm beignets for only $3.50...can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Ray M.

Yelp
The Beignets were so good me and my daughter went back for seconds. Oh boy my wife is going to be sooo mad we went here with out her, sorry Hun
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
The beignets are really good they make them fresh and you can get them topped with chocolate and raspberry sauce (which I highly recommend). However, I took away one star due to them not offering any type of cutlery. The beignets are very messy to eat with your hands.
google avatar

Xtina F.

Yelp
I am a vendor at Eastern Market. I see people walking around with these powdery morsels and I drool because I am either A. Working so I can't eat it hot, or B. Am on a diet. Today, I was off and went down to the market with one goal and one goal alone- stuff my face with these chocolatey fluffs of awesome on my cheat day. I ordered the chocolate covered traditionals and a sweet tea. 3 words - Perfect. Cheat. Day. The workers and owners are always super nice, super professional, and just all around great people. If you're looking to taste a Detroit staple , make sure you check them out.

Yelp
So.. it is a tradition to eat beignets on new years eve if you're from the Netherlands. I bet you didn't know that! As a result of moving to Michigan, I haven't enjoyed a proper beignet (or oliebol as we call them) in about 7 years. "Oliebol", by the way, literally translates to greaseball..There's a fun fact for the day. Appropriately so, while these puppies at beignets 2 go are of course deep fried, greasy they are not. In fact, they are so heavenly pillow-like, these puffy clouds of goodness are light enough to maybe stuff a second one in your gullet. You know, for quality control purposes. Just making sure they're all equally good and such. I went through this 'horrid' ordeal for you and can report that they are delicious. I may have felt a little pig-ish afterward, wiping the powdered sugar off my face (I'm messy, what can I say) but they were worth it. When visiting the Eastern Market, try not to fill up with all those other glorious items for sale (and sample), you would be doing yourself a disservice by not getting one of these fresh, made to order beignets. Also, they have cronuts here - for all you cronut fans out there!
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
You don't know the power of a warm beignet until you had one of these perfectly fried powdered sugar treats. They are reason enough to make the short trip to the Eastern Market. Warm, sweet and delicious puffs of heaven. I ate all 4 of them and I'm not even sorry about it.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
We got the traditional beignets from their truck at Eastern Market. They were fried yet light and very flavorful.
google avatar

Tamika C.

Yelp
My first beignet and they did not disappoint! Had the Cronet (croissant and beignet hybrid) and it was delish! As strange as it songs, you must try the cheese and bacon cronet....can't wait to get one again!!
google avatar

Adrianna S.

Yelp
Tried Beignets 2 Go at eastern market today. Beignets are awesome! I loved the flavor! Great sweet treat and looking forward to trying a cronut next time.
google avatar

Shrina S.

Yelp
Beignets are always delicious, but I've had the ones from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, so it's definitely hard for anyone to beat them or even come close. My friend and I got beignets and a cronet from the food truck on a sunny Saturday in May. The beignets were delicious and chewy and sugary! The cronet was a bit too oily, I felt like there was too much oil trapped into the layers, but still pretty good. Would I come back? Maybe, if I'm craving some fried sugary sweets
google avatar

Mei O.

Yelp
One of my favorite things in the cold months, after shivering my way through Eastern Market's paltry pickings, is to stop here and get a Cronet Sandwich...a cronet (Beignet meets croissant) with cheddar cheese, bacon bits, and powdered sugar. If that doesn't make your mouth water, I don't want to know you.
google avatar

Charity F.

Yelp
Ordered the traditional last Saturday at the Eastern Market. I never had the original from nawlins but have had a rendition done by disney world and these are a home run. Loved the soft pillow inside and fried goodness I ended up ordering another batch for the drive home. This makes the trip to Eastern Market even more worth it.
google avatar

Kruthika S.

Yelp
I cannot say enough positive things about Beignets 2 Go. Because they're so good, my boyfriend and I have made it our Saturday morning tradition to visit the Eastern Market, get beignets and grab a cup of coffee across the street . Even in the freezing cold, it's worth it to check it out. They're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Fried to perfection and drizzled with dark chocolate, my mouth is watering just writing this. The woman working the truck, who I assume is the owner, is very nice and friendly. They also are very quick which is important cause it's so cold outside :)
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Get these when you go to eastern market. And trust me when I say you want the raspberry sauce AND the chocolate sauce in addition to the powdered sugar. Best dessert in Detroit so far!
google avatar

Suha A.

Yelp
The cronet and the beignets are both really good, but I prefer the cronet. Get the chocolate and raspberry sauce and ask for light powdered sugar. Don't get the chai latte, it was horrible! The cronet was good enough to make up for it.
google avatar

Christina O.

Yelp
Awesome airy beignets! So so hot chocolate that was lukewarm. A little on the pricey side..
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
We picked up a regular order of beignets and a chicory coffee today at Eastern Market. They were delicious and lots of powdered sugar on top and the chicory coffee was so good I will have to get it again when I hit Eastern Market.
