Ordered scallion pancake and eggplant garlic sauce for delivery . Scallion pancake was arrived very soft like tofu . I always expect my scallion pancake crispy and golden looking . It was obviously not deep fried. Eggplant was ok and would gave 4 stars .

Yelp
Really good! FYI that their mild is more of a medium in terms of spice (but you can try to scoop out the layer of chili oil on top if it ends up too spicy). We came during lunch and the pricing ($15.99/lb) was not bad! The minimum weight is 0.8 lb, which was the perfect amount of food for me. I love being able to cater how much I buy for how hungry I'm feeling.

Yelp
I've walked by this place so many times so I was very happy that I finally got to try it. This is my first malatang in NYC and I thought it was interesting that this was a soup version as I feel like a lot of the other ones I've been to is a dry pot. The way this place works is that you grab a bowl where you fill with ingredients to then pay by the pound. Mine turned out to be around $25 which was around 1.3 pounds worth of food. I feel like I definitely could've gotten less next time because it was way too much food and I ended up eating it for 2 meals. I really liked the variety of options they had as well as the sauce bar which was delicious! The soup base, Classic Herbal Beef Bone Broth, was also quite good and not too spicy even though I got mild. I will say that I'm somebody who doesn't like meat as much so it felt like I was not getting my money's worth as I kept grabbing vegetables. Overall, fantastic and fast eat and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I think more people came here for the soupy hot pots. I came for the dry hot pot craving it, but it was not what I expected. Their base seems to be loaded with sesame paste that I wish I looked into more closely. The flavor was very overwhelming, and the texture really ruined it for me. The spiciness did kind of help distract me. It was a chill quick eats place though, where you can just pick up whatever you want on your own.

Yelp
Came by to get a late night malatang fix. The interior is cozy but there is plenty of seating. The buffet is self serve and your items are weighted before they are cooked. They have a decent selection of meats and vegetarian options although I wish there was more variety in the meats. The buffet was a bit messy late night and the sauce bar was pretty chaotic. Service was minimal but quick. The packaging for take out was pretty solid. Overall I thought the broth was a bit too bland and their sauce bar didn't offer too many options. Pricing was very reasonable by weight.

Nina C.

Yelp
Decent malatang place in the city for a fair price! There is a big fridge with all kinds of food, and you just put them all in your bowl and go pay by the pound. It's a fun concept, but as a person who loves to fill the bowl with mostly veggies and noodles and a little bit of meat, I feel like I'm losing out on value by not getting more meat. However, it's so cheap I guess it doesn't really matter. I've tried both the spicy beef bone broth as well as the dry pot. I think the bone broth was ok--nothing too special. However, I liked the dry pot quite a bit. While it was a little sweet for my liking, it was overall quite good! I think I will continue getting the dry pot here. One thing to note tho, my dry pot noodle was a bit undercooked

Simon P.

Yelp
A new malatang place in the neighborhood with a clean storefront. As with malatang in China, you pick your own raw ingredients into a large bowl and you pay by the weight before they cook it inside and serve it to you. The selection of ingredients is quite diverse and even with a few different types of noodles. I only tried the bone broth so far but it is decent. The time I went was more in the middle of the summer - but it would be a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner during the winter.

Sallie D.

Yelp
Pretty tasty - pick your own ingredients in a big bowl then hand over to cashier to weigh and cook. You get 3 choices - two with broth and one as a dry mix (stir fry). There's also a self serve sauce bar. Food was fresh and sauce tasted great. 4 stars because the place had some flies buzzing around.

Yelp
Great fast casual place for people to choose either individual ramen style soups or order an assortment of dumplings at the ling long counter within! I enjoyed my dumplings and devoured my stack.

Yelp
i had high hopes for this spot as my new mala project replacement, but i was unfortunately very disappointed. maybe because it was a takeout order but the noodles and contents were all mushed together and it had no spice at all. rather it tasted like a dan dan noodle mash up of various ingredients, with a heavy peanut flavor. it felt quite heavy and i didn't feel that great after the meal. i could see why its popular among folks though because its fast casual, more affordable and a good place to sit and chat comfortably with friends.

Ingrid H.

Yelp
They have a great selection of items here, and the buffet was clean and well stocked. The products all appeared to be fairly fresh and decent quality. I got the "spicy mix" which I thought was going to be like the dry pot I've had other places but it was a little different. It was definitely wetter than the dry pot I've had at Mala Project and in Flushing and it was not spicy even a little bit. I have a fairly low tolerance for spice, but I still found this to be not spicy at all. It also seemed to have sesame sauce mixed in, which I was not aware was a usual ingredient in dry pot. There was no mala flavor, but overall it was well seasoned and tasted good, even if it wasn't what I expected. I appreciate that they also offer a robust selection of toppings for your bowl, such as cilantro and ground peanuts. My bowl came out to $27 and could have been consumed for one large meal or two smaller ones. The prices seem reasonable to me and the service was friendly. Perhaps I need to try the soup version, because it seemed like most other people in the restaurant were enjoying that.

Yelp
Everyone can get their own favorites and their own selection of broth! Fast, easy, delicious! There's nothing fancy here. Just no frills, fresh vegetables and different proteins and noodles to cook in a few selected broths or dry mix. You can get bone broth, tomato soup or a spicy dry mix! Can't go wrong! Hits the spot and reasonably priced!

Yelp
A hotspot for NYU students, this place is good for a relatively quick meal at a decent price. You load a bowl with ingredients at a station that looks like the grocery store produce shelf, then at checkout select from either 2 broths (spiciness customizable) or a drypot. They cook your ingredients and serve in a giant bowl within a few minutes. Price is by weight - $15 per lb - and I spent about $25. Someone else in my group spent around $15, and another close to $35. For me the cost was a bit more than I anticipated, but still ok *for NY prices* (and I guess I eat a lot). 7:30pm on a Thursday was quite busy but the line moves fast and table turnover is quite high. Some things to keep in mind: I think there's a good variety of veg/meat/seafood/tofu/noodles but not so much for broth. I would also recommend choosing the beef bone broth over the tomato, which got lukewarm reception from my group. The space is crammed and so are the tables, but it's great for a casual meetup. They offer large takeout containers as well in case you went overboard selecting ingredients. And for transparency, they offer a free drink from the fridge (think a can of Coke) if you leave a 5 star review, so ratings may be slightly inflated. Overall I recommend this place if you're looking for some hearty, spicy malatang at a decent price.

Yelp
questionable health regulations -- each of the bowls we picked out to gather our build your own toppings wasn't cleaned well. there were quite a few remnants of old food not washed off well in each of the bowls we picked up. big issue might be the cross contamination aspects. you can use the same tongs to pick up any ingredients from raw meat to veggies and ramen. they also plastic wrap leftovers at the end of the evening and use the next day. which is a little concerning. staff are not friendly by any means it almost seems like you're bothering them. good grab and go kind of place. i would not be super surprised if this was a place that yielded lots of food poisoning victims. they ran out of tomato broth when we swung by on a sunday evening. not sure if i would risk coming back unless desperate. soup itself is tasty enough but being paranoid about food poisoning after eating isn't worth it.

Dennis M.

Yelp
TLDR: It's a good eatery with decent prices. The food is good and the price is right. Selection of protein is awesome. It's a small eatery: simple interior and self service.

Monica X.

Yelp
This is literally my favourite place to eat. Come here every day ordering the medium spicy beef bone broth

Tia B.

Yelp
The food was okay and nothing too special. It seems like there would be some cross contamination between meat and veg, if this might bother you. Solid location for a quick bite. They don't have too many spicy options for vegetarians and I thought they could have some more sauce options. It is self serve and there is somewhat limited seating, but good place if your party size is small.

Shao Mei Z.

Yelp
Love how you can pick and choose what to put in your dish. Favorite is the beef bone broth. It's so flavorful. My favorite items to put is the duck blood, white tripe, shrimp and glass noodle.

Yi Han G.

Yelp
Quick service, easy ordering concept, rgood quality ingredients and reasonable prices - would definitely recommend and will be back.

Alex Z.

Yelp
Food is good but nothing special. You pick your own and pick one of the three sauces. The meatballs are not fresh, not sure how many things has gone bad. But the meatball still taste bad after it's cooked.

Jolyn T.

Yelp
Fast service and good food! Really good broth and was made really quickly. Will come again!

Sharon J.

Yelp
Delicious malatang/malaxiangguo spot in the east village! It's mainly self service, so you choose from a variety of vegetables and meats on the side, and then they weigh it by the pound and cook it for you, either dry or in soup. We got the spicy dry pot, which has a spicy, peanut-y, cumin sauce that was delicious. It was on the saucy side (not as dry as other ones I've had). Got a big portion to share between two people and it only came out to $20 so pretty good value! Will definitely come back :)

Colleen L.

Yelp
Great food and service would recommend and come back anytime. So good!! Reminds me of home

Jimmy Z.

Yelp

Yelp
I can hear with a couple friends to eat dinner. it was really delicious and they provided clean, mannerly service to their customers. Loved it!!!

Sebastian S.

Yelp
Great Atmosphere! Very authentic experience where you can grab your own ingredients just like in the 麻辣烫 places I went to in Shanghai. Service was super fast!

Rebecca Z.

Yelp
Good food fair price with a well lit place. Servers were nice and helped walk you through the process.

Melissa K.

Yelp
So good and affordable! I been to a lot of malatang places and they have a great variety of selections and it's quick and easy

Taylor Z.

Yelp
The value pretty good for what you get. Lots of affordable quality and variety. The spicy is definitely more authentic.

Stella A.

Yelp
It's a great concept to select what you want to eat and they will prepare it. It's almost like having a mini hotpot meal. I got the mid spicy bone booth and I was good (finished it to the last drop). The only thing I found funny was the quail eggs. they seem "fake" as there is no yolk inside.

Zhanna M.

Yelp
In my opinion it's the one of the best Chinese restaurants in NY! I really love the taste of the tomato broth! The have a great variety of meat, mushrooms, and vegetables, and it's really enjoyable to make your DIY Malatang. The waiters are nice and ready to help if you need. Will definitely visit again!

Serena Z.

Yelp
Affordable and cute concept! DIY hotpot by pound with self serve bar. Mild flavor options

Isaac T.

Yelp
good service and food! ordered the fish, beef and lamb with beef broth, extra spicy. You can pick your own ingredients and the kind of broth you like! Highly recommend for anyone who likes spicy chinese food

Jake L.

Yelp
Good, very busy, lots of section, but not a lot of broth choice. There are so drinks.

Ted P.

Yelp
Always love a malatang place and this one really delivers the spice. Pick what you want (be careful that you don't get too much).

Kim G.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable - it's buffet-style, pick your own ingredients and type of broth and then they cook it all together to make a yummy soup. Love the concept and will definitely come back again soon.

Cindy W.

Yelp
Comforting bowl of tasty food. You can customize the ingredients and you pay by weight. They cook and bring your food out to you in minutes!

Tony L.

Yelp
One of the best Malatang I have had in NYC. This is a must go if you come near NYU. I grew up in China and havent had any authentic malatang like this since I moved to US. Good atmosphere and clean, totally recommended.
