Google
Authentic literal mom and pop home cooking. The special stir fried dry Noodle was literal comfort food, packed with flavor and large hits of meat and shrimp. The mapo tofu was a little over sauced but it sure went down nicely with the fried rice. The portions are awesome and the price point is perfect. No frills, authentic home cooking! It is next to a circle of food trucks with available outside seating. Short walk from powell's.

I love this place! Years ago, I smelled someone’s food when they were walking by. I asked where it was from and here we are! The nicest Asian couple run this cart. I always feel better after grabbing some Beijing chicken and going home to curl up with some YouTube. I hope they stay or maybe expand to a brick and mortar,.. as I’ll be devastated if they ever leave. (As so many of my fav Asian food carts have over the years)

Great little place. Classic yummy American Chinese food. Obsessed with the sesame beef. So good, nice big portions.

Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - surprisingly impressed by this food truck! We ordered a Pepper-Salt Chicken (#5) and a House Special Chicken Spicy (#10) and both came with a scoop of white rice and brown rice. Very generous serving, seasoned well, and delicious overall. The pepper-salt chicken was wok fried on the spot but was a bit dry. However, the flavor was wonderful! The House special was a coated chicken in a slightly sweet and spicy sauce with carrots, onions, bell peppers, and mushroom. Amazing flavor again and quite an intense kick. Ambience: n/a - food truck that looks clean and neat but the surrounding area didn’t feel the best. There were a few police that showed up on either side to speak with the people spread around the sidewalks. Service: 5/5 - attentive and quick to service. An older man drove up a few minutes after we placed our order to cook the salt and pepper chicken on a wok! Value for price: 5/5 - yummy food, generous portions, reasonable price. Absolutely loved it and would want to try other dishes!

Google
I really wanted to give them a good review so badly because I was so excited to try their food for the first time but I was very disappointed. I ordered the sesame chicken with rice and the chicken was thin and I could barely chew thru it. I also ordered the house special lo mein that comes with chicken, beef, and shrimp. To my surprise when I got home and opened it there was a good amount of chicken, a few pieces of beef, nd absolutely no shrimp in the entree:(.

Favorite take out place in the heart of downtown . Owners are incredibly kind, the boss lady gave me some home grown plums once. 100/10

This is such a good stop I had the house special fried rice hot and as always it’s awesome. I would recommend and suggest stopping by and grabbing a bite to eat !!!!!

Google
Best choice for downtown Chinese food! Delicious and filling portions. So many options for a little food cart. It’s hard to choose, and the family staff is so nice! Love the Orange Chicken and Lo Mein. Can’t wait to go back next time for Won Ton soup and BBQ Pork Fried Rice.

Yelp
Nothing was even tolerable except egg rolls were a B-, Worst kung pao oily and had no love at all Ginger chicken was tossed after 2 bites Green beans over cooked and oily too $92 with out a beverage for two Off my list

Yelp
I really try not to give five stars out easily, but, Beijing House makes it challenging to give anything less than six! If only I could go higher. The experience at Beijing House is deeply personal. The staff are the most energetic I've come across from Portland carts, and their open space around the cart really does invite interest, since they have this corner of the Cart Blocks to themselves. Ordering is very easy, and the team will walk you through the steps to get the right meat, rice, and sizes for you. Once ordered, you can expect a wait of between five and fifteen minutes, depending on the line in front of you. They do a great job at remembering who you are, so they do not take numbers or give out vibrating order status alerts. It's a very cozy experience! Since most people will order takeaway, I recommend bringing a separate bag to hold your meal(s) in, since the thin container can get quite warm when holding it for several minutes. This speaks to how fresh their food is! There are also small tables in the Cart Blocks park where you can eat.

Yelp
Not sure how this place came rated so highly. We did get door dash so that may have had something to do with it. I got their happy family and it was pretty bad. The brown sauce wayyy too salty, the meat was low quality and not many vegetables. The rice was undercooked and the whole entire mess felt so greasy

Samantha J.

Yelp
Friendly food cart with delicious food! The Mongolian beef and lo mein are a must-try! The Mongolian beef was tender and smothered in sautéed onions, served with steamed rice. The Lo mein was perfect for sharing! Order with your favorite protein. I'd recommend each person ordering their own plate, aside from the fried rice and Lo mein. The surrounding area is a bit seedy, but don't let that deter you. The team is friendly and the food is a great value. I highly recommend if you're looking for food in downtown.

Yelp
So I was looking for somewhere walkable from my hotel to grab dinner and come back to my room and eat. I came across this place, read reviews, and decided to give it a try! When I got ther3, it was a little sketchy because it was a food cart, but was not let down. There is just 1 man making everything, he was SUPER sweet and kind. I ordered the chicken lo mein cause I wasn't that hungry to try any other dishes. It was such a huge amount of food for the price. I could have fed like, 3 people with that!! The portion was HUGE. Anyway, got about to my room and started eating..itbwas delicious. Flavorful, cooked perfect, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Next time I'm in town, I would def recommend this spot every time!

Abigail S.

Yelp
I ordered vegetable Lo Mein, which was fresh and made with quality ingredients but the sauce was loaded with sugar! Please consider customers on sugar free or low carb diets.

Dipali S.

Yelp
Cute food cart in a row of carts with tasty chow mein! The chef/owner was very friendly!

Becks P.

Yelp
The food and service are amazing here. Small mom and pop place that's legit! I got the bbq pork dish which was made fresh to order.

Yelp
YUMMMMYYY!! For $11 you get a massive plate full of noodles. They are delicious and fresh. Definitely will have left overs. The spring rolls are made fresh and are also very good. They are open until 7 during the week. Definitely a great Chinese food find.

Jaz M.

Yelp
I happen to be strolling near this place when it caught my eye and let me tell you THIS PLACE IS FREAKING AMAZING. I tried the vegetable lo mein and THESE WERE THE BEST CHINESSE NOODLES THAT I HAVE EVER HAD. The noodles were perfect in flavor, texture and the medium spice was right on point. I havent had a place like this WOW me in Portland and this place is it. If your a noodle lover or a Chinese food lover please come give this place a try and support the amazing women who owns/operates this joint. If I could give it, this place would be 10 out of 5 stars. Thank you Beijing House!

Vincent L.

Yelp
Great quick food for a great price if you want to support local businesses! The owners were super nice and the food is delish! 100% recommend if you want "grab and go."

Melissa G.

Yelp
The orange chicken was cooked to order. Tender chicken, crispy coating & delicious flavor. They gave me a scoop of white rice & what looked like brown rice. I typically do like like brown rice but this rice was salty & so tasty. After I ate I asked what, besides salt, do they put in their brown rice. She told me it's actually fried rice! No wonder I loved it! The saltines complimented the orange chicken perfectly.

Rudy H.

Yelp
I have to confess. Their orange chicken are some of the best I've had anywhere. They cooked them to order as soon as the order in. The two scooped of rice are hot, the chicken are fresh and crispy. I enjoyed my orange chicken from the Portland Food Cart immensely!

Yelp
Stayed at a hotel where Beijing House was located kitty corner. Found on my last night in Portland. Kind man working, solo. Ordered Beef and pot stickers. Not bad for the price. Good serving amount and tasteful! Would recommend and visit again.

Alex D.

Yelp
This has become my favorite place to go during lunch. Everything I have tried was amazing. Fresh veggies, always hot, and popping with flavor. The egg flower soup and house special are my favorites. Staff is incredibly nice and quick.

W L.

Yelp
This is a food cart where the salt and pepper fish is really quite good. We've ordered it on several occasions and it is consistently delicious. It's a battered, deep fried fish with sauteed green and white onions. Comes with two scoops of rice and it's alot of food. This could be the best salt and pepper fish in town. Other dishes of the stir fry variety are less impressive but if you're in the neighborhood - the salt and pepper fish is definitely worth a try.

Sara K.

Yelp
Amazing service!! They have great orange chicken that has a hint of citrus and fresh garlic. Cooked well and served with two delicate and decent sized scoops of rice. Great for only $8 for a plate that could serve 2. But bountifully serves 1. A hidden gem!

Brittney M.

Yelp
I've only been here twice, but that because I just found this place YESTERDAY. I gave up on Chinese food for a while after my life long favorite placed closed a couple years ago. I was walking the food carts yesterday and saw that this place offered crispy eggplant. It's my favorite Chinese food dish but I'm rarely satisfied when I order it elsewhere. I gave it a go, and omg! I devoured it. It was so freaking good. I've been thinking about it ever since and finally couldn't take it anymore and went to get some! I have a baby and we live in a building where we have to park blocks away. Leaving is no easy feat, but so worth it. Back home enjoying it again! Oh and the woman who was taking orders both times is so friendly!! She remembered us today and even threw in an extra goodie. thank you!

Trey M.

Yelp
Budget priced Chinese food downtown? I'm all for that. I was a little skeptical at first since this was the only food cart to not have a line during the lunch rush, but I was pleasantly surprised. The two owners were friendly and greeted me with a smile. I opted for the General Tso's chicken, and it was quite good! For $8, it gets you two scoops of rice (one with white rice, and the other that's fried rice). The chicken itself was cut into smaller pieces but were marinated in the sweet sauce and had minced pan fried garlic sprinkled on top. Delicious! The interesting part was that the chicken was on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce, but it worked well since the sauce was soaked up by it. If you're hungry for Chinese and don't want to pay a lot, go here!

Jaymes L.

Yelp
This is the worst beef in have ever eaten. It was textured like it had been microwaved too long and was so crunchy ot fell apart and tasted like charcoal. Would give this 0 stars if I had a chance. Waste of 12 dollars go to the hawaii cart next door and safe your taste buds.

Jay G.

Yelp
I wanted to try Chinese street food. Beijing house owner is very polite. With Kung Pao Tofu and Maa Pao Tofu me and my friends were Amazed. Never had such nice aroma of Chinese food in US. I would highly recommend this place, if you are in for hot & spicy food. Owner can make it mild if you are not spicy eater . Have a blast and support local food trucks.

Jim C.

Yelp
Food was decent if and when he decides to cook, Chef refused to cook with an hour till closing cuz he was busy eating oranges...

Aaron W.

Yelp
Spicy food is an awesome legal drug of sorts. The taste buds come alive (or incinerate upon the first few bites), and the endorphin rush that follows ensure that moment is embedded in your brain for a significant time. When Run mentioned I could get just about any dish on the menu as spicy as I wanted, I flashed a happy, yet sinister look that my stomach could only interpret as: "Oh f***...." What to get? There are almost 30 menu items! Some are mere appetizers or sweet items, yet each look so tasty. This time, I wanted chicken. Kung Pao Chicken for $6.50. As an aside, you have a choice of white rice or brown rice (no extra charge to get brown rice). My food was cooked to order, and in a few minutes, a dark-red sea of chicken, peanuts, and dried red chiles (Thai chiles, perhaps?) awaited me. On my visit, a guy (likely there to fix or install some equipment in the cart) commented how spicy the dish looked and smelled. Admittedly, he said he can't tolerate spice. I took a good whiff of the chicken. Mmm...spice. (goes into trance) The diced chicken stayed moist. The dark red glaze coated each piece, delivering a satisfying, flavorful nudge to the palate. Even though it was requested extra spicy, eating the dried chiles would have been the only way to likely set my mouth ablaze. I gave my palate another shot at life by not eating those dried pods of doom. The peanuts gave that cool texture contrast, although I'm thinking to myself...that's a boatload of peanuts. Whatever, it's protein! It's a respectable start for Beijing House. I wasn't completely blown away by the product, but it certainly warrants a return trip. Considering they had only been open a week and a half when I visited, I look forward to seeing the progress Run and her husband make over the coming weeks and months.

Yelp
I had the Mongolian Beef and it was good. They didn't have fried rice so I got sticky white rice which was also good. I'd give the meal 4 out of 5 stars. Service was pretty fast.

CT O.

Yelp
I always come here time to time when I need quick nothing surprising street fast Chinese food. Everything is "7 dolla". The couple that runs the cart are hard working people. They're there to cook you quick yummy Chinese food and I love that. Cash only and please tip them well.

Caitlin W.

Yelp
I was really in the mood for some sesame chicken so I walked all around Alder Street until I found a place that had it. Beijing house was the first place I stumbled upon. The lady and her daughter who worked there were very friendly. Of course I ordered the sesame chicken. $7 All the meals with chicken/beef are $7 and all the meals with fish/shellfish are $8, which is extremely cheap and they have a huge selection! Service was super fast and the lady handed me my steaming hot sesame chicken. I couldn't wait to go find a bench to enjoy it. Big portions! 2 big scoops of rice and lots of chicken. The chicken sauce was super flavorful and had a hint of spice to it. The only downside was the chicken was a little bit over fried so some of the pieces were a little hard to chew. Rice was perfectly cooked and was super tasty with the chicken sauce mixed all into it. I was very full and satisfied. For a $7 super filling meal, you can bet I will be back!

Yelp
If I told my past self that I would spend one evening chatting with the owner of Beijing House food stand for about an hour, keeping him from going home, I probably would have laughed. If I told my past self that I pretty much conversed with him in Mandarin with my one of my friends, I would have slapped myself silly. But that's exactly what happened at Beijing House. Like a lot of the other food stands in Portland, Beijing House offers VERY cheap average quality food. It's pretty much your standard takeout Chinese food that's high in sodium and oil. And like all the other stands, this one closes pretty earlier (about 9pm I'd say?). And so when we got to Beijing House and it was clear that the Chinese owner was about to pack up and go, we pretty much begged him to make us whatever he had left. The kicker? We did it in Mandarin and I believe we convinced him real good to serve us the last meal of the night. And so for about an hour we just talked and talked while he slowly cooked us our Beijing Beef orders. Funny thing was that we actually bargained with him Chinese style and got us a whole bunch of vegetables on our plates (usually there isn't any vegetables that come with our order) for just a $1 extra. That is haggling at its finest and that alone was one of my highlights of the night. If you are Chinese and can speak Mandarin, I highly encourage you to engage in convo with this guy. He is funny and has great intent. The food was what you would expect. As mentioned, it was a bit oily and salty. But when it's late at night, I'd have this over any junk food people get when it's late. Overall, the food and experience was well worth 5 stars! I promised him I'd come back again when in Portland. Eat well and prosper,

Katherine M.

Yelp
I originally wanted fish and chips, but the only cart that sold them was already closed, so I ended up getting some Chinese from this cart. They have a decent selection of dishes, and I really liked that they had a lot of pescetarian/vegetarian options. I got the eggplant with spicy garlic sauce. I got the eggplant crispy (you can also get it soft.) It was good, but the sauce wasn't spicy enough. The portions were huge (I ended up getting three meals from that), so for $6.50, the price was right. The service was fast and the owner was really nice. Yeah, it wasn't the best Chinese I've ever had, but it was still pretty good. If I'm in the area and craving Chinese, I'll definitely go back and try their other dishes.

Chris C.

Yelp
Beijing House provides pretty good Chinese food served by a real Chinese guy who plays traditional Chinese music in his cart, and makes things to order. So in that sense it's "authentic." When you see him open up the freezer and open up the bag of frozen potstickers you definitely lose some of that "authentic" feel. In any event, the potstickers are pretty decent and served with a nice vinegary suace. The General Tso's chicken isn't bad, but was a bit bland and the serving size was relatively small when compared to what you'd get at other Chinese places at the same price point ($8). Beijing House is open later than a lot of the other carts so if you need to pick something up for dinner you might consider it, but I wouldn't put it anywhere near the top of my list.

Danny G.

Yelp
Very friendly food cart next to many other food carts. I was really in the mood for chinese food and I've heard that Portland doesn't have any good ones. Well I must have heard wrong then, because this food cart was a really solid joint. Menu is not as large as the ones in NY, but for a food court, not bad. Lots of tasty choices. I ordered the sesame beef with fried rice, and it was so good, I had it twice in one week. It was also a very plentiful portion as well, which is always nice. Very fresh food. Decent prices (they take cash only) and friendly faces. Probably one of the best chinese restaurants in Portland.

Kelley M.

Yelp
Best Yu Xiang eggplant and ma po tofu I have had in years! Their style and taste is very authentic. The sauce is flavorful but light, a little oily but appropriate given what I ordered. Portions are dinner size with prices at lunch rates. Will be coming back every time I'm in town!

Adam S.

Yelp
Really nice, good service. One time a had a mix up where I had to wait a little longer on my order, without asking they insisted and gave me a free drink. Good ingredients. Sesame chicken and orange chicken are great.

Rachael P.

Yelp
The best Chinese in the Portland area! Maybe I was just spoiled but since we moved to Portland we haven't been able to find good Chinese food anywhere (trust me we tried... and what's the deal with only pork fried rice being offered as a side dish?). Beijing House has the best sweet and sour chicken I've had since I moved here. They actually put the onions, bell papers, and pineapple in like you're supposed to... not just all meat. The Kung Pao chicken is so good that we make excuses to drive all the way from Estacada just to get some decent Chinese. The closest to So Cal Chinese restaurants that we've found so far. Definitely worth the drive. I just wish they would post their opening hours so we could plan accordingly.

Trish S.

Yelp
I walked around the food truck pod hunting, prowling for a quick lunch during a recent work conference in downtown Portland. I don't do well at buffets, and food pods like this remind me of buffets, so many options, so little time. I didn't know what I wanted and made a vow in my hangry skulking that the very NEXT thing that looked amazing in the row ahead would be my lunch, period. (Only if it had a conjoining good Yelp rating though) Hot pink Sweet and Sour Chicken? Check! It was better than what you'd expect, good quality white meat chicken, a generous portion, drenched in sauce sweet enough for a sugar high but a bit sour as described next to two scoops of white rice. I walked about two blocks back to my meeting room and it was still pipping hot when I settled in to eat-which for me is a huge plus as I HATE lukewarm food. (9$) I also caved and ordered the veggie spring rolls and they were so surprising- more deep fried food? Okay guilty! But these were thin and flakey and the filling was super fresh. 5 of them with sauce for 5 bucks! If you've got a lunch time hankering for some Chinese-American Food I totally suggest it. Don't hesitate though, because at this location you can get easily distracted by the plethora of options. Great for: Tourists & Locals alike, business professionals and peeps on the go!

Shaneldon W.

Yelp
This cart is a gem. The food is great and fresh. The people working are nice and accommodating, which is an added bonus. I would definitely recommend this food cart to anyone that likes Chinese food. I would recommend trying the dry-fried rice stick with beef (spicy), but then again everything I have tried has been good.

Robert H.

Yelp
I can't judge if Beijing House is authentic. There are many, many regional cuisines in China and I've only experienced the South. But I must say, Beijing House is tasty! It is an example of many dishes coming from one (small) kitchen. The number of family kitchens in Chinese homes with a 16 burner Viking, double convection wall oven microwave steamers, a garage full of plug in countertop mixers, slicers, dicers, macerators, cookers, roasters, brazers, deep friers and other electric food gadgets is microscopically small. Most homes for generations have made 3 and 4 dish meals, plus accompanying rice, on a two burner, often bottled gas, stove, with sharp knives, and, in the last, say, 30 years, a rice cooker. Somehow all those dishes come out all at once, perfectly cooked and steaming. Memory of famine in China is rooted in the culture, if not the direct experience of a majority. It was a serious problem in the Cultural Revolution which ended about 35 years ago. The family bond is still paramount in Chinese culture. The cultural resonance and importance of a well prepared meal with family, at home, or out, for dim sum, is unlikely to ever be understood in America. Chinese restaurants in America have translated that home kitchen efficiency to the sit down realm, and Beijing House has brought it Portland up to date, in a food cart. This compact stainless steel wonder cools and compartmentalizes all the ingredients for the more than 20 dishes. The cooking is precise, not overdone on the vegies. The result arrives with your choice of brown or white rice, and I believe they have an option of the dish over lettuce sans rice. I had the special chicken with carrots, mushrooms and onions in a fruity brown bean sauce. Beijing House occupies the middle ground between some cornstarch-heavy restaurants and very light nouvelle cuisine Chinese fusion spa fodder. And the price is right, $6.50. If you want the type dishes you would find in an American Chinese restaurant, lighter, and inexpensively, from a downtown lunchtime food cart, Beijing House is the place!

Olivia T.

Yelp
It's alright. Among many food carts on this block, I craved for Chinese food. Not many carts serve Chinese food, most of them are Thai, Mexican, Vietnamese, South American, and American. It was a tossed between The Noodle House (I had their food all the time) or Beijing House. I settled for Beijing House because I saw Eggplant with Garlic Sauce on their menu. I ordered the Eggplant spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. It had great flavors except the spicy flavor that I requested. Jesse had the Seafood Fried Rice and it was pretty delicious. I think this place is ok if you craved for Chinese American food. Besides that, nothing really special here.

Anton S.

Yelp
As far as I'm concerned, Beijing House serves the best Chinese food in downtown PDX. There just might be another hole-in-the-wall or food cart that does it better, but I haven't found it yet. They have a huge menu, and everything is prepared fresh to order. Sometimes that makes it a bit of a wait to get your food. Well, wear a coat. It's worth it. They use fresh, quality ingredients to produce dozens of dishes with flavors that are deep and vibrant. Just try the General Tso's chicken-- it's a far cry from the usual double-breaded deep-fried and slathered in sticky sauce that you might usually get. The flavor is pungent and complex, rather than simply hot and sweet, and it is completely delicious. If only I could find a brick-and-mortar Chinese restaurant this good.

Sandra C.

Yelp
This place's dumplings were really good!! I recommend trying them if you visit Portland. This is a good food truck to try

Tony T.

Yelp
I had the Mongolian Beef this past weekend. I found the sauce was a bit too overpowering so you definitely need to wash it down with a bit of white rice each bite. I know that may sound great but it tasted so good going down. It was like a love hate relationship. For $8, I thought it was well worth it especially if you're not willing to stand in the long line for Bing Mi which is next door. If you're looking for a quick Chinese food fix, definitely stop by.

Samantha J.

Yelp
The people are really sweet, but that cannot makes up for hard rice and bad tasting food. I was pretty disappointed with this meal. I had the chicken and broccoli and the sauce was not a traditional brown sauce in flavor it was super sweet with a weird after taste. My boyfriend ordered shrimp fried rice and wasn't much happier; he ended up cooking us something else to eat. Side note: they do prefer that you use cash.

Alisa G.

Yelp
I tried my friend's salt and pepper shrimp, and it was lovely with a very light fry on very tender shrimp, although oddly served with two mountains of rice, which made no sense, since there was no sauce to be soaked up. When it was my turn to select an entree, I opted for broccoli shrimp. I asked the lady at the window if it could be made spicy, and her answer was, "mild, medium, or spicy?" Huh? I just said spicy. I reiterated, just to make sure we were clear. What I received was a very sweet, not spicy, red sauce drenching over-cooked shrimp. I got my own mountains of rice, but I didn't eat them since the sauce was so sweet. I'll give them another shot since there's usually a crowd out front, but next time I'll ask what dishes are more savory.

Skyy P.

Yelp
Hand out the best Chinese food ever..why? Food is fresh. Not only you can taste it but once u ordered you can see he prep right in front of you..Try the Crunchy Eggplant..it's phenomenal.

Ty D.

Yelp
Two years ago I'd given this place 5 stars. Not any longer. Portion sizes have gotten smaller, prices have gone up and the quality of the food has decreased dramatically. Such a shame. Place was so great.

Artorius R.

Yelp
I was downtown for lunch today after blowing off a conference that was less than stellar, so I headed to the 9th & Alder pod for lunch. Chinese food sounded good, and this cart looked worth a try. Very friendly people in the cart and relatively quick service considering that everything is cooked on order. I ordered their General Tso Chicken. It was a relatively small portion with lots of rice and LOTS of sauce for $7. For this price, I expected more actual chicken. The chicken was nicely fried, but the ratio of chicken to breading was a bit low. Also, the sauce was very dark and tasted a bit acrid/burnt and didn't have much heat even though I pulled four dried chili pepper pods out of it. Given the number of competitors in this area, I don't think I'll be trying them again.

Jung K.

Yelp
Just had their sesame chicken to go and while the flavor was ok, the portion size was rather small. Really small amount of chicken layered underneath with a bunch of fried cellophane noodles to make it look like more. Sad face :( Considering many Chinese restaurants in town offer lunch specials for $5-7, Beijing House's prices are rather high IMO. The owners were quite friendly though so bonus points for that.

Lelia M.

Yelp
The food was so so and the man who served us was rude. Some of it can be chalked up to his not being a native speaker, but there's basic politeness that transcends cultural barriers, which he also lacked. There are too many options out there to settle for ho-hum food and poor service. Not going back.

Maria A.

Yelp
Extremely slow service. They should have told me when ordering that it was going to be over a half hour. It's a dips carry for crying out loud.
