Years ago PK Asian mart in the same spot was the only Asian store around the neighborhood. Then Wing Fa opened across the street and quickened PK's downfall. Now, it seems like Beijing Mart is posed to be the one attracting all the customers.
I am glad Beijing Mart did not spare the expense to give the place a much needed face lift, replacing all the nonworking coolers, lights and worn decor. The place is bright and new.
Like other newer Asian marts, they have figured out that the money comes from the Millennials and Gen Z who loves all the Asian snacks and stuff. When you walk in there are shelves of soda with Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z and other anime characters on the packaging, plus plenty of Pocky and other snacks.
They do have a large veggie cooler in the back, though it's somewhat empty now, hopefully will fill up as the merchandise and customers continue to come in. Overall, it has a good if not extensive selection of products, from frozen meat to noodles and spices to houseware.
There are a lot more competition for Asian markets now, but I can see how some people will pick this as their first choice.
