"Whoopie! Pennsylvania's Delicious Invention Never has a yummy treat been mired in such controversy as the Whoopie Pie. First, how did this burger-shaped cake with the sugary cream filling get its name? Does the name come from the exclamation that schoolchildren shouted upon opening their lunch bags to discover these delights? Or does it come from the Amish farmers, who were rewarded with these portable “pies” in their lunch boxes? My vote (and Pennsylvania Dutch lore) favors the school kids. But wait—there’s more controversy! While I am one hundred percent certain that these little cakes called pies originated in my lovely state of Pennsylvania, it seems that the state of Maine has also laid claim to their origin, even going so far as to name the Whoopie Pie as its "official state treat." Other research points to somewhere in New York state as their birthplace. We may never know… There was a time not long ago when Whoopie Pies felt much like a prized local secret because no one outside of Pennsylvania had ever heard of them (excepting, I guess, some of those Mainers). These days, though, you can even find Whoopie Pies in the bakery sections at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. But the most authentic and delicious version can only be found at the Amish bakery Beiler's in the Reading Terminal Market. My personal favorite is the pumpkin flavor, but the chocolate is also delicious. Or maybe try the oatmeal, or the red velvet. Better yet, try one of each—they’re portable!"

Google
My go to place to visit when in Philadelphia. It produces, on site, the most amazingly delicious and fully filled doughnuts you could imagine 😋 🍩. There's a huge selection of flavours. The biggest problem is trying to decide which ones to buy 😅. I always take home ( to the 🇬🇧) a box of these doughnuts and they're still super tasty and fresh the next day too. I can get busy and some flavours can sell out quickly, so be sure to get there early for the best selection. Prices are pretty reasonable for the US too! Highly recommended 👌🏻.

Google
Saw several locals leaving Reading Market with boxes of these donuts, so I went to see what the fuss was all about. Longest line in the place. Glad I joined in! There is a huge offering of baked goods, but everyone was in line for donuts. I tried the cruller (eggy perfection), the sour cream (so tender), and the glazed chocolate (decadent). Would love to be able to come back for more. Delicious! Definitely worth the wait!

Google
We went there for breakfast. The donuts taste really well. I highly recommend to stop by at the place. We had 6 donuts, where my favorite was the Mocha one, all of them were really tasty though.

Google
What an array of baked goods, not to compete with Beiler's Doughnuts just across the aisle that serves only doughnuts. In the Reading Terminal Market, Beiler's Bakery is heaven for this who love baked goods and I was totally blown away by the selection of 8 gluten free items. I grabbed 4 of the gluten free items including Whoopie pies, sand tarts, peanut butter treats, and pumpkin rolls to Take home. Of course I sampled just a bit of each one and they were delicious! Sand tarts was a new treat for me and the gluten free version was a bonus! We also chose a raspberry bread, and standard cinnamon rolls. And we also took a home made shoo fly pie, traditional Amish recipe. Delicious baked goods You stand in line to order and pick up. No seating in this venue and there is central market seating in accessible tables around the corner in the market Accessible entrance in Main entrance on 12th street. Accessible van parking in paid lot that can be challenging to find. AlsoThis is a short walk to the venue

Google
They were some of the best donuts I’ve ever had, and they were reasonably priced. I was afraid the fruit-filled ones, like the strawberry shortcake, would be overly sweet, but they use natural fruit and not artificial stuff. They were sweet and tart at the same time. If it makes sense, it was the perfect combination. We came back on Sunday to get more before we left, and we’re super bummed to see that they were closed.

Bem Suero

Google
The donuts here are sooooo good. It’s wild how many different kind of donuts they do so well. The triple chocolate was fantastic. The people there were also very nice. Would recommend.

Michelle Philly

Google
Their cheesecake is absolutely the best you'll ever buy and reasonably priced. Sticky buns...Delicious! However they no longer sell whole strawberry shortcake just a slice of it and thats so sad

Google
These doughnuts are a must when in The Reading Terminal. Famous for their bacon maple doughnuts but the key lime pie is my favorite. They make them right there in front of you - which just makes you hungrier lol. Sooo many fantastic flavors and yes they offer coffee for sale as well.

Yelp
The Mr. and I were recently eating our way through Reading Terminal Market. One of our choices was Beiler's Bakery. There were so many options to choose from, but I finally settled on an Oreo Creme, a Bismark, a glazed creme filled, and a salted caramel. I was still thinking about the donuts the next day, but alas, it was Sunday and they were closed. I plan to visit Philadelphia again soon, and when I do, I will make a beeline for Beiler's Bakery.

Yelp
I love their fritters... Especially the apple fritters. Blueberry one is ok too. Get more than one. You will crave it again. The line is long but it goes fast... Almost too fast. There are so many options so I usually figure out what I want before I go. As I am writing this, I am really wishing I have a fresh warm apple fritter.
google avatar

Gina L.

Yelp
Quality "fancy" donuts at a reasonable price. We got a half dozen variety (~$9) of the following: apple fritter, oreo crème (FIRE), glazed cake (??), regular glazed, apple, and powdered jelly. If you have a sweet tooth, you will LOVE the oreo creme (I did). The fritter was delicious as well (never met a fritter I didn't like), as were the remaining donuts. There were a few empty trays (forgot the flavors) we wanted to try, but if you want to sample tasty ones, I'd recommend choosing the kinds with only a few donuts remaining!

Yelp
Philly's #1 Donut Jawn! (as proclaimed by me). These are the amongst the freshest donuts I've had in my entire life. Beiler's has ruined all other donuts for me -- for life! If you're in town visiting, this is an easy spot to over look. It's a definite must-try. Philly's not exactly dripping with good breakfast options, so if you're looking for something fast you've found your, "jawn."
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
I used to really love this place, but I just feel the quality has gone down. The staff are really friendly - that hasn't changed. I was pleasantly surprised by the caramel apple donut and bacon mapple glazzed donut. Also pictured are glazed donuts
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
We came here after eating ice cream and pretzels. We got a shoe fly pie piece of pie and pumpkin cheese cake pie piece. We waited to eat it for a couple of hours in the heat. The shoe fly pie I thought was very good even though it was warm. The cheese cake pumpkin pie was little more liquid but can't blame beiler. Overall I think both pies were excellent!

Yelp
The market was packed on a busy Saturday and Beilers had a long line - but they are so efficient! The line moved quickly, everyone was friendly. We bought the 6 donut pack for $10. Both the apple & blueberry fritters were delicious. We also enjoyed the Salted Caramel, Apple Cider Maple Bacon & triple Chocolate. All the donuts were yummy!
google avatar

Shirley Q.

Yelp
Came here at 5:30pm and got the banana cream pie right before closing. I usually prefer a more crunchy crust so I wasn't a fan of the more doughy crust on this. It had a bit too much cream on top that I scraped off. Service was great, most people were in line for last minute donuts instead of the bakery so there was no last minute rush
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
These donuts are some of the best I've ever had! The donuts are warm and fresh. Cost less than $2 a piece. I ordered two different donuts: Boston cream: the custard was amazing, the chocolate on top was still warm and the donut was soft as butter. Apple Fritter: this was perfect in texture as well as in sweetness level. Not too sweet but just enough to remind me I was eating a donut. Beiler's is a must in Reading Terminal Market, the problem is I can't try all of them.
google avatar

Yelp
INCREDIBLE donuts, I've never had anything quite like Beiler's. I wish we took a dozen of donuts for the drive home but it gives us more reasons to return to Philly. The line is long but it actually goes by really fast. You get to watch employees pump out donuts while you wait which is really fascinating and it smells incredible in line. Both donuts were warm when we purchased them and they were to DIE for. I'm not a fan of apple flavored desserts but the apple fritter was warm and delicious, the right amount of cinnamon in crispy pillowy goodness. The maple bacon was hot and oozy when we got it. The donut itself was almost pancake like and extremely addicting. My only note is that the bacon is chewy so if you don't like chewy bacon, you won't enjoy the texture of this donut. I literally cannot wait to return to Beiler's and bring back a dozen donuts home to New York.

Yelp
Tried this iconic Philly bakery. So many options and the line was pretty long but it went by quickly. Decided to get my favorite crueller donut. Wasn't anything mind blowing but it was a good donut. Very fair prices as well.
google avatar

Amelia C.

Yelp
Good, fresh donuts every time. $1.99 per donut. If you can make it here during the week day, it is less crowded and there are much shorter lines. I like the classic glazed and apple fritter most.
google avatar

Brian E.

Yelp
What a great donut stand located within Redding terminal market. Place put out some of the best donuts I've ever ever had without exaggeration today. I stopped in and got an apple fritter and a fruity pebbles, glazed and absolutely loved every bite. If you've got a sweet tooth and you're in Redding terminal stop here and try the donuts.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
These are my kind of doughnuts! Don't waste your time at a Dunkin' if you're near Reading Terminal. Go to Beilar's! The doughnuts are cake-y goodness with a great variety. The sea salt caramel, harvest apple, and peppermint stick were my favorites.
google avatar

Susie H.

Yelp
Beiler's Bakery (Donuts), where else again Reading Terminal Market, better still, utterly insane donut beauties that I would traverse states to revel in Beiler's delightful, light-as-a-feather donuts. Like a flight-powered superhero- tastebuds soaring- Chocolate Sprinkles Donut was quality, fresh, rich with lovely, heavy, chocolate-frosted, and hefty serving of sprinkles. Strawberry Glazed Donut was tasty too - strawberry filling, with exactly the right amount of tart. Nobody does donuts better than Beiler's!
google avatar

Kay D.

Yelp
This place is located inside the market and the prices are $2 per donut. A very good price but they do not look like your typical donut they are a lot flatter. The donuts here are a little too sweet for my liking. The service is quick and very nonchalant nothing special. The donut itself is fluffy and very filled kind of small and flat but it does taste fresh.
google avatar

Stephen H.

Yelp
Look, everyone is in line for the donuts, and one of these days I'll line up too. But recently I came by for a container of their home-made pickles and loved them. Great pricing and great taste (and no line, lol).
google avatar

Helene T.

Yelp
Beiler's usually has a line around its counter--always a good sign. I also heard they have a delicious coconut doughnut. Had to find out for myself. A friendly and patient guy waited on me as I considered every doughnut and finally chose my dozen to go and two in a bag for breakfast--the coconut and a peanut butter cream filled. Beiler's is not only worth the hype, their baked goods are with the calories! And, their tidy booth is right by a flower stand so you can also have a feast for your eyes!
google avatar

Audrey W.

Yelp
Some of the best donuts I've ever had, particularly the jelly filled. (Prefer their yeast donuts to their cake ones, but both are very good.) Tends to be a long line for donuts, and it doesn't move quickly -- hardly the fault of the employees as it's the customer, salivating over all the choices.
google avatar

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite donuts in the city and at $2/donut, you can't beat it! So many delicious flavors to choose from whether you like filled donuts, fritters, glazed, classics, etc. beware of the lines but trust me it will be worth it!
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Soooo goood. I got the vanilla crème today and it was so amazing. The only thing I'm upset about is I didn't order more!! Def recommend getting there early to stock up!
google avatar

Anne C.

Yelp
Amazing donuts - there was a short line but it moves quick. I was recommended these donuts from multiple people and it did not disappoint. They have so many flavors to choose from it was truly decision paralysis. It's conveniently located in Reading terminal and you have so many other options as well for food around it! Definitely don't miss out on trying Beiler's donuts. Loved the maple bacon donut as well as the lemon donut. Would love to try out more flavors next time.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
There are actually a few different sides to Beiler's at Reading Terminal Market. I visited the bakery and the donut areas. They are really well-stocked full of delicious-looking baked goods such as pastries, breads, donuts, cookies, scones, and pies. Tons of variety in flavor and sizes, and it's consistently busy. Service is super quick though - definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Michele V.

Yelp
Must go- must eat. Their baked good are so scrumptious delicious. The pistachio muffin was "moist" and tasted like pistachios. I wish I bought more. Got the whoopie pies- pumpkin one was a little too buttery for me- leaking butter to be honest. Service is fast and friendly. The market itself is always busy but has so many options but there is only 1 Beiler's.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
Rude worker, but the boston creme donut was bomb. I'd stop by here if you like donuts.
google avatar

Yadi G.

Yelp
Quick service, by a very attentive man who was trying to get everyone what they wanted and on their way. Really great, amazing actually, carrot cake! Soft, moist and full of flavor. The frosting was sweet, but not too sweet. 4 stars because I also got a banana nut muffin but kinda felt that the banana flavor tasted artifical. But solid place with solid prices as the total was only 7.50 for both items.
google avatar

Komal R.

Yelp
My husband is a big fan of their Coconut custard doughnuts, it was my first time trying it and it did not disappoint. So fresh and soft. The Nutella doughnut was filled with cream and it wasn't too sweet - making it the perfect companion to the coconut doughnut.
google avatar

DEBORAH T.

Yelp
These donuts were fantastic. Got 4 donuts for my road trip home and they did not disappoint. Key lime, Coconut, Caramel Apple and an Apple Cider. I haven't been to The Terminal in 10 years and Beiler's didn't disappoint!! Very yummy
google avatar

Reeko K.

Yelp
Beliers pretty much never dissapoints. Donuts always fresh. Only problem is thinking you know what you want and then when you get to the front of the line realize you don't have any idea how overwhelming the selection becomes. Can't recall each one that I had this time around but all were great except the apple caramel which may have just been a taste preference. Overall great place. $10 for a 1/2 dozen wasn't bad for the quality. Line is usually wrapped around the corner but we caught it when it slowed down just a pace.
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
Donuts: great taste, wide variety, reasonably priced Service: top notch Location in the market is right up front so you're in and out of you do t want to browse. What's not to love?
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
They were out of the apple fritters doughnuts and it broke my heart!!!! I must go back for them!
google avatar

Alice D.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon and after a bit of a wait, the ordering process was relatively quick and efficient. They have a huge selection of flavors and not a lot of time to choose though so I'd try to have what you want in mind due to the line of people and the bustling environment. The donut itself tasted pretty good and was a good quality. I enjoyed the small treat and would be happy to come back to try some of their other things - the environment just wasn't great due to how busy it was, but I'd assume coming on a weekday would be a little less chaotic.
google avatar

Jonathon N.

Yelp
Cool Pennsylvania Dutch bakery with breads, muffins, and a variety of other items. They have a gluten free section, too. Pair their foods with the coffee at the stand across from them, and breakfast is handled. We love Reading Terminal Market.
google avatar

Anjali M.

Yelp
I get these every time I come to Philly. No matter how long the line I will always wait to get some. Just try them it's 100% worth it
google avatar

Aaron A.

Yelp
Long lineup for this shop. You get to see that they deep fry their doughnuts on the spot further raising my expectations. Lots of flavors to choose from, got sourdough and an apple fritter. Both were a bit too dry for my liking. The sourdough was not as buttery as I'd like. Fritter was better, but it the inside was not as moist as I'd like.
google avatar

bianca b.

Yelp
Some of the best donuts I have ever tasted they are so soft and fresh you can taste the fresh ingredients and they even had a doggie donut that my picky chihuahua actually loved!!! Can't wait to get back here to try some new flavors.
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
These donuts were amazing! Light and airy and the fillings were in point! Line in reading terminal wrapped around a bit but moved fast. Did feel a little Anxious ordering in the line but was not disappointed! They were so delicious. I will dream of the cream filled one.
google avatar

Lila P.

Yelp
A dozen donuts is nearly $20 now? Wow. The donuts are a little on the smaller side but their still good. There are lots of offered flavors. Maybe a once in a while treat now.
google avatar

Phil M.

Yelp
I had the maple bacon donut from Beilers Donuts. I wasn't sure what to expect but tried this one because it was recommended online. It was surprisingly soft and fairly light - one of the best donuts I have ever had. The flavour of maple and bacon was there but the bacon wasn't overpowering at all, just a nice accompaniment to the sweetness of the maple and donut itself. I wish i had bought a few more to try as I may be dreaming about that donut for a while.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
Oh my! These are incredibly tasty donuts! The vanilla cream was one of my favorites. I also loved the blueberry fritter. Delicious and not overly sweet.
google avatar

Katlyn P.

Yelp
I was in town for a convention and EVERYONE had one of these donuts! So I finally found them and got two glazed donuts of my own. DELICIOUS! They reminded me of a small cake donut, but none the less I loved it! I'm so happy I was able to try this place. Disclaimer: they always have a line but it moves fast! It was worth the wait!
google avatar

Olga H.

Yelp
This was recommended as THE donut spot to visit at Terminal Reading Market. So many choices here as far as donuts go. While you wait on the long line that moves pretty quickly, you can see the bakers making the donuts and all of the various toppings and fillings they offer. I have never seen a variety on that scale. The donuts are fresh and tasty. Get the half dozen, as it is more bang for your buck.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
I'm a huge apple fritter donut fan. Beiler s sells an apple fritter AND a blueberry fritter donut too. I never had a blueberry fritter donut so that was my choice. This donut was filled completely with blueberries. So good. There was quite a line for buying their line up of products. It went smoothly and didn't take long at all.
google avatar

Mallory R.

Yelp
These donuts slap. At first I thought the donut was a bit too doughy but then I ate the entire thing and I was sad it was gone. I tried a chocolate frosted and an Apple fritter and both were superb.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Beilers is a must visit! I visited them at the reading Terminal market and they had a line wrapped around their booth. The line does move fairly fast so dont let that deter you. They make delicious doughnuts and they always come out fresh. I got their glazed, old fashioned, and apple fritter. Apple fritter was my favorite! Very delicious and stuffed with an applesauce substance. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their doughnuts they all look very delicious!
google avatar

Enna J.

Yelp
Huge variety of donuts. The service was ok...not rude but not personable either. The donuts were tasty though.

Kathy K.

Yelp
Hands down the best donuts and fruit pies in Philadelphia! Get to Reading Terminal Market location early morn and the donuts are warm, melt in your mouth yummy.
google avatar

ReviewHaiku F.

Yelp
Incredible goods! Delicious whoopie pies and Filled donuts galore* *I love the house made cream, so I try to consume about 1 metric ton of it when visiting this excellent, kind-hearted bakery
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
What do you do when you have some time between meetings and a hankering for a pastry? You try Beiler's for the first time. I didn't go for a doughnut though I very much look forward to getting into one of those super soon. I strolled up to the literal sea of muffins and knew I had found what I was looking for. Me: "what muffin is the best muffin?" Team member: "Oh, butter rum." Me: "sold." And she was 100% CORRECT! This was a life changing muffin - super soft and crumbly in the best way. One of those take a bite, say "oh my god" audibly, look around, then nod kind of moments in life. Great prices, easy to order, and a TON of great options if you're looking for sweets to bring to a gathering or something special for your home. I cannot wait to return frequently and this will always be a stop for me when in reading terminal.
