The Best Restaurants in New Cross | Where to Eat in SE14 | Eater London

"Specialising in Lebanese cuisine, highlights from the extensive menu include charcoal grilled meats such as chicken shish laced with garlic, served over vermicelli rice; cucumber yoghurt salad with dried mint; falafel; hummus Beiruti with chilli, parsley and lemon juice; and pumpkin kibe, comprising marbles of pumpkin, cracked wheat, spinach, onion, and chickpea plunged into seething hot oil. A selection of meal deals are also served, including a main (shawarma, kofta, grilled halloumi, or chicken wings) with falafel, stuffed vine leaves, hummus, tabbouleh, and batata harra." - Jonathan Hatchman

Very delicious food, and such good value. Had an amazing vegetarian mezze plate for £11.99 that was huge, such a generous portion of incredible food. Super friendly atmosphere from the second you come in. Definitely will return!

Local, yummy and affordable! We got the lamb & chicken lunchtime deal which was £10 each and includes a drink which is a bargain and portion size was good 😊

Service was bad, we ordered £24 food for 2, I asked for both rice and chips and it only came with chips, it was a food for 2 and no bread was given with it so again I had to ask for bread...?? But the upside the kebab was good, so I gave 4 stars, sauces were nice but I had to ask for it, I regularly go to Turkish restaurants and you don't have to ask for none of that, they bring it all to the table, it was cheap shop bought wrap bread and when 2 people order food at least give one each..?? Friendly people but a lot to learn how to serve food, I recommended because food was good...

I like places that contain the word canteen in their name because it means they can’t be overpriced! I was a bit nervous when I came in because I wasn’t able to get a review and I was in a hurry but I was more than pleasantly surprised by the food. It really did deliver! I’ve had quite a lot of these mixture warms and being disappointed. Maybe because I didn’t have chips alright? I got masses of meat can’t complain at the price either 😊 Another, unassuming place that turns out to be more like a restaurant than a café

I recently visited Beirut Canteen in New Cross and unfortunately had a mixed experience. On a positive note, the shawarma was very good – fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavour. However, the lunchtime deal signage outside the restaurant is unclear. The information about the timing of the offer is printed in very small text, which can be difficult to read for anyone with poor eyesight. This makes the promotion appear somewhat misleading and disingenuous, as the actual deal conditions only become apparent once you’re inside. When I questioned the charge, I felt pressured by a member of staff (a short, tubby gentleman) to pay rather than have a proper discussion about the misunderstanding. While the situation did not escalate, it left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I would encourage the management to make the offer details clearer on the outside signage and to approach customer queries with a bit more understanding. The food is enjoyable, but the overall experience would benefit greatly from clearer communication and a more considerate attitude toward customers.

The overpriced menu in this place would have you double checking your location to make sure your in Newcross and not in Oxford Street! Chicken and Lamb pieces are tiny, and they charge LITERALLY DOUBLE than normal lebanese or turkish places charge for mixed grills. I think the owner takes advantage of the majority customers being students here as this restaraunt along with 2 other similar ones is owned by the same dude and all charging same prices so locals feeling like grilled food have no other choice unless they travel. If the food was atleast decent perhaps it would get an extra star. Dont waste your money You want quality lebanese food just hope on the overground train a few doors away from the restaraunt and get real bang for buck theres plenty around with the same menu, with better quality and almost HALF the price

Visited today. Nice, cozy and clean place, with delicious food. Ordered two lamb shawarma wraps and drinks. It was fresh, buttery, and juicy. We simply loved it. The guy served us was also nice and keep cleaning the tables whenever possible. Recommended.

Yelp
Great food but honestly missing one things costumers respect. Well I went to the restaurant today and I ask for mixed kebab take away... I payed first for the price of mixed and sadly when got home that only chicken so sad people trying to abused other people by faking their personality. One thing cannot trust anyone I advise you before you pay take a look in what you buy it because this guys out there won't care about you just how much you pay.

Yelp
This is probably the worst experience in the area. Horrible service from so called "adult" guys. We're in 21st century and you'll probably have trouble in this shop. Beirut canteen doesn't deserve your money. Trust me you can find other places with much nicer staff around.
