Beirut Palace Owner Closes Royal Oak Restaurant, Citing Parking Issues | Eater Detroit

"Owner Hussein Ahmad has sold his longtime Royal Oak restaurant after 21 years and plans to open a new location elsewhere in metro Detroit; he moved the operation into the downtown space at 205 S. Main St. four years ago. Ahmad says sales fell sharply—about 25–30% in June and later as much as 50%—blaming delivery drivers’ difficulty finding parking for online orders and resulting tickets. The decline coincided with the city closing a major lot in May (removing roughly 230 spaces) and raising parking rates in June; while a new seven-story deck with 580 spaces is expected next year, Ahmad and other operators say the interim disruption has hurt revenues. The specific downtown space has been sold to new owners and is expected to reopen under a different name with a similar menu soon, a sign that investors still see opportunity despite recent closures." - Brenna Houck

Great local place to get Mediterranean food. Service is always great, though sometimes it is too much. They really want you to have a positive experience. The food has never disappointed, though we tend to not explore the menu too much. The dining area is a bit lackluster. We don't mind though, the food is why we're here. Overall the food is good and we always have a positive experience. It is always on the list of places to go.

We come here almost weekly. Family owned and operated business. Always great food and HUGE portions! They take care of us and are so kind. Super clean. Great prices. The chicken is top notch and my picky eater loves it!

Excellent food! My wife and I shared a platter (falafel, kebab, etc.) with the hummus and fattoush salad as sides. All the food was amazing, including the pitas and garlic sauce. Excellent service. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you!

I was just commenting that we have eaten Mediterranean food in 7 different states, And at countless restaurants within those states. This place is so amazing! I can't even begin to describe the food and quality! We will be back--and we live a 3 hour plane ride away! Thank you so much to this place! You will NOT be disappointed!

I got a drink and fries it was like $6-7. But i really came here for the hummus and shawarma. but I think the hummus came for me. Creamy, smooth, and so good it made me question every life decision I’ve ever made involving store-bought dip. The shawarma? Let’s just say if my grandma cooked like this, I’d actually visit her more. 10/10 would trade my left sandal for another plate. Also The young handsome man in the glasses is very nice and knows everything about this fine establishment.

We stumbled upon this gem of a Middle Eastern restaurant by chance, tucked away in a shopping plaza next to a grocery store. Despite being a small place, it left a big impression! The food was fresh, flavorful, and genuinely authentic – every bite was a treat. The owner and his son were incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. It’s clear they put a lot of heart and soul into their dishes, and it shows. We’re already looking forward to going back! I really hope more people discover this spot – it’s small family-run businesses like this that truly deserve to thrive.

Just dined in here for the first time and I had the best experience. The food was unbelievable, I got the BEIRUT PLATE and the lentil soup; I couldn’t be happier with it. The service was warm and attentive, truly a great experience. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Google
Beirut Palace needs to be known about! This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. There was so much passion and expertise that went into the food. It was enough food to feed me twice (the picture is the Tabbouleh salad with grilled chicken added). It was my first visit over to Detroit to visit a friend, and this restaurant will be the first thing on my mind going back!

Yelp
Generous portions, delicious food, amazing pricing-- I'm definitely going to be a repeat customer. Beats La Marisa by miles.

Yelp
We used to frequent this place quite frequently but it had changed hands a few times and quality had gone done. We started going to a place by us that was good but they have recently had a change in ownership and have the new menu and prices have been a deterrent. We saw that this place is under new ownership since our last visit so we decided to try it again. We were not disappointed. We ordered the fried kibbeh, pita bread, garlic toum and the Beirut plate with rice and fattoush salad. Everything was good. It was enough to feed 4 people comfortably. The garlic toum was not over powering which I really appreciated! The pita bread was super fresh and soft. Service was friendly. We will definitely be ordering again.

Yelp
This was the first time I've ordered mediterranean food myself, I usually just eat what my mom orders for family stuff. The man who answered the phone was extremly patient with me and answered all my questions and was very helpful. The food was amazing. The falafel was probably the best I've ever had. I usually find it very dry at other places and at Beirut Palace it was cooked just right, still had some moisture inside so I wasn't wasn't coughing bc my throat was so dry. The meat was nice and juicy and cooked to perfection, the rice was good, I loved their hummus and flatbread. When I came to pick up my order I had so much that they even offered to help me carry it out to my car. I would definitely order from their again and recommend it to anybody I know.

Yelp
Delicious, new family-owned Mediterranean spot next to Kroger. There are a few tables inside, but we opted for carry-out. We ordered the Beirut Plate with rice, hummus and pita, and the crushed lentil soup. All of the different meats in the Beirut Plate were juicy and packed full of flavor. The hummus was deliciously creamy and the soup was lovely. The falafel was next level yummy. Hands down the best Mediterranean food I've ever had and delightfully friendly service. Will be back sooner than later! Happy to have a place like this in Clarkston.

Yelp
I ordered food for two of us (pick up) for the first time. We had a chicken swarma with rice and a mixed swarma with humus. Two salads and the garlic sauce. The total bill seemed high BUT the amount of food we received was amazing. The chicken was excellent! The garlic sauce- excellent. I didn't have the beef in the mixed but my daughter really liked it. We will order again for pickup.

Yelp
Their lamb kabobs was so tough neither of us could eat it! It was tasty but bought for meat and so I called them and think owner Bitti answered and he told me "He had no control over how old the lamb was! Think he meant age of lamb. He said very busy and handed phone to someone else who wanted know what was going on in Middle East. This was the first time and last time! Wasn't sure if even lamb!

Yelp
Love the Palace!! Chicken Fattoush salad is amazing. The chicken is great along with the dressing. Their lentil soup isn't my favorite, but you might like it. The garlic is delicious.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! Huge portions, authentic taste, and delicious juices! it was our first time there, this made pita way look like McDonald's. Thanks for the fantastic food! You guys will be getting a lot of business from me!

Yelp
Food is amazing and price is fair for feeding multiple people with the platters. Definitely try this place out if you like Mediterranean.
