7 Essential Jordanian Foods to Eat While in Jordan - AFAR

"A homey maqlubah prepared from a family recipe featuring layered rice with shereya vermicelli, stewed chicken or lamb, fried vegetables such as eggplant and cauliflower, and warm spices like turmeric and baharat; the pot is flipped upside-down to reveal the best bits. The dish is served on a shaded terrace accompanied by mutabbal, a farmer’s salad, and basbousa as part of an immersive cooking-class experience based on the owners’ grandmother’s recipes, with maqlubah priced from JD30 (approx. US$42)." - Yulia Denisyuk

In Amman, Jordan, a Visit to Beit Sitti - AFAR

"Housed in a grandmother’s inherited home in Jabal Al Weibdeh, this hands-on cooking school teaches traditional Jordanian home dishes while promoting female economic empowerment. Run by three sisters who opened the house to guests in 2010, the program employs dozens of local women—many of whom gain the skills and confidence to start their own catering businesses—and emphasizes building human connections as much as technique. Classes cover recipes beyond the usual stereotypes, with participants chopping, kneading, and preparing dishes such as mutabal (eggplant dip), a loaded farro salad, khubz (Arabic bread) baked in an outdoor oven, and maqlubah (the upside-down chicken, rice, and fried-vegetable dish), and using regional flavors like za’atar, sumac, and orange blossom water. The intimate, photo-filled house with a sundrenched terrace and vintage Singer sewing machine draws a wide range of visitors—from tourists to celebrity chefs and members of the royal family—and runs lessons seven days a week (currently priced at $70 per couple or $140 for private lessons)." - Jonathan Thompson

The Jordanian Breakfast is Really Good But it's bit like Family's Cooking or Grandma's Cooking. But It's Really Tasty but Not Worthy the Price cause it bit expensive. However, it's an Family Owned Restaurant but It's Rare not Very Popular tourism.(BTW, Their Toilet is locked, there's Washing Hands only as Well unfortunately)(cause I Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor says it's one of the Best Jordanian Breakfast in amman.) The Atmosphere it's Amazing an Jordanian Old School So classical but it felt entering People's Home. Because its Family Owned Restaurant, i give it 7.5/10

A very pleasant cooking experience. Took my daughters who really enjoyed cooking authentic Arabic dishes. The chef was very friendly and fun. The whole cooking experience was an hour; afterward, we ate what we cooked. Good was generous, with a main course, appetizers, and side dishes. The house is historic with a beautiful interior that's authentic. Would recommend it for tourists and locals alike.

wonderful experience I had. It's a place that truly helps you remember and appreciate the culture. We had the opportunity to learn a very traditional and original recipe that dates back over 60 years. The staff, especially Um Mohammed and Nesrin, were incredibly welcoming.

We had an enjoyable time at Beit Sitti, however the class felt rushed and advertised a 2 hour length when only 45 minutes of this was spent preparing the dishes and the remainder for eating. We didn’t feel like we took much away from the class, except very full stomachs. It felt a little expensive for the overall experience and if you opt to have local Jordanian wine with your meal be prepared to spend over double the retail price for it. The ingredients used were fresh and traditional to local flavours which was nice, and the staff and service were lovely. If you are happy to pay the advertised price for less involvement in the cooking process and to eat some delicious food, then this class is great for you.

The experience was wonderful! I really enjoyed learning some helpful tips for preparing delicious meals! My only advice would be to involve more local vibes into it.

We enjoyed our cooking class very much, discovering 5-6 recipes with a group of 9 people. The place is welcoming, you feel in your grandmother's home! The ladies were very nice and everybody was working together to make a part of each recipe. Amel was taking care of letting us taste each of the local and special ingredients. I'm back home and already got these in my kitchen to make these recipes again! Ending this class with a shared meal on the terrasse was amazing. I highly recommend this activity that you can bring home!

What a wonderful experience! From start to finish. Chef Maria is so informative and very traditional when it comes to cooking she patiently explains the recipes and the stories behind them. We made Fatayer ,Galayeh and Muhalabieh from scratch. Hands down the best food and the best part is that we made it ourselves. Thank you.
