Delicious coffee and had an cherry amaretto cookie that was just fabulous. The cannoli did not wow us, the filling was quite grainy and the wrapper was a bit flavorless. Everything else looks super delicious and the space is really lovely, it’s a beautiful part of town. There are both sweet and savory items like Sicilian pizza and panini, a whole menu of them. This Puget sound micro neighborhood is lucky to have a cute little café like this, and they told us that it will eventually turn into an Italian restaurant as well.

Excellent coffee and pastries. Still working on the pizza (not bad but not great) and no Italian donuts (yet). A little pricey but very good and attentive service. Overall 4 stars - might increase 1 once everything is available and running smoothly!

This is the new bakery in the spot where The Original Bakery used to be in West Seattle. I really enjoyed the maritozzi and cannolo. I have not tried the coffee, sandwiches, or pizza yet, but look forward to doing that another day. The staff and customers were all very friendly and the cafe is cozy. The line to order was a bit slow, but since the bakery is still in its soft opening phase, I understand that they’re still getting ramped up and the wait times will likely improve as they get into the full swing of things.

Such a cute and welcome addition to our neighborhood. The baked goods are divine and the service is stellar. I also had the meatball panini and it was very good as well. Grabbed a latte and it was served hot hot hot. Just like I prefer. Will definitely be stopping in more frequently.

A hidden gem, with warm atmosphere and delicious cooking. Delicious pistachio cream canollis, strudels, pastries, pizza bites and coffee. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Google
This is such a neighborhood gem! We started going when they opened up the bakery and the baked goods are fabulously delicious. I’m an extra big fan of the lemon cookies. Breakfast sandwiches are delicious, too, but be sure to order ahead as they do take a bit of time to prepare. They recently started serving dinner and we had a really fun gathering of friends there. The service was friendly and attentive, the cocktails and mocktails were great, and the food was so so good. I think our group ordered everything and especially loved the gnocchi. We’re so happy to have this spot in our neighborhood and are adding it to our regular rotation of places to have dinner!

I will begin by saying the service here was fine and I have no intent to disparage the workers who I am sure are working hard. I have lived in this neighborhood 25 years and I know what quality and price were for this establishment’s predecessor, the original bakery. keeping in mind the owner is different and the times have changed, I have tried the food here several times with an open mind. The food quality is low, the price is high, making for a truly poor experience. the pizza is pricier than bakery nouveau and lower quality. the donuts are truly rough: it is hard to mess up a product that is primarily fried dough and sugar. the donuts are pricier than good day donuts and far worse in texture, taste (you can taste the oil on the bombalone). it is the worst aspects of gentrification embodied in a sub-par bakery. Bernie, the former owner, ran the original bakery after purchasing it from the original owner, who had run it since the 1930s. Bernie poured decades of his life into this bakery and ensured consistent, excellent quality at a price point 1/3 the cost of these donuts. When I was young his donuts were priced at 69 cents, and the bismark was 1.25 - now, times have changed and I am aware prices have too. the donut today that bernie would have priced at 99 cents I bought for 5 dollars. when the price is this much higher I expect the quality to be at least good. ideally better than a 99 cent donut. I find the quality more than lacking at this price point. This place feels disrespectful to what has been a neighborhood staple for 90+ years. They took Bernie’s giant stand mixer and filled it with dirt and put plants inside. I believe this speaks to the idea that instead of quality Bel Gatto is relying on aesthetic, but the mixer was used to make pastry for decades and decades and is now ornamental. Wildwood Market across the street moved into a former Mexican restaurant and have grown their clientele by providing good quality sandwiches, specialized products, and price points that are more in line with the rest of Seattle. This should prove this neighborhood is not some customer desert. Instead of tapping into the many former regulars of the Original Bakery, Bel Gatto has brought lesser quality and higher prices, and I believe it’s a true disservice not only to Bernie but the patrons who have been here decades longer than I have. I have given them months to get their quality rolling but if this is it, they have settled on sub-par and expensive.

The dinner here is some of the best we've had in recent memory. If you can come here you must. Myself and our family of 5 ordered all vegetarian dishes and shared them family style: I remember treasuring bites of gnocchi, pasta, pizza, and all the desserts. Our favorite dish was one with eggplant, tomato, cheese, and (I think) pesto, it was so good we asked for another. The kitchen produced perfect dishes back to back, and while I would enjoy the freedom to walk in anytime to an open table, this restaurant deserves to be full.

Yelp
Wow, 5 star grub & atmosphere and poof it's gone... Definallty food was amazing so no fault on why it closed. Grabbing a nice pastry or pizza square was something I did on the weekends and I'll always remember it. As for why it's closing well you can thank the liberal Seattle agenda for that one moving to $25 minimum wage and other things that made this amazing establishment close. So now since I can't get anything more I'll just say " THANKS"!!!

Yelp
I walked in on a Thursday morning to try a few things, and was luckily enough to have a good conversation with the baker. My favorite is the orange pistachio cannoli (filled with ricotta cream), which I devoured immediately in my car. I also got a flourless brownie cheesecake to take home, which is definitely rich. It's delicious heated up in the microwave and served with some ice cream. I had the twisted donuts and chocolate croissant are nothing special. Their lunch menu, including panini and Sicilian-style pizza, looks fantastic too. They also serve wine and beer! Don't forget to try the samples! I loved the citrus taste from the Italian-style donut.

Yelp
Great kid-friendly and casual spot for a quick bite before heading to the park. Yummy chai latte and my soup of the day was delicious. Pizza, sandwiches, pastries all top notch with quality ingredients. Service is friendly and attentive. Thankful for this new addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Bel gatto took over the spot that housed the longtime Original Bakery. Thanks to fellow Yelp Elite & IGer, Jennifer H for compelling earlier posts. I decided to head out to Bel gatto mid afternoon after a prior stop in the UDistrict from Shoreline (10/23/24). Thankfully, I-5 South to the West Seattle Freeway, then out to Fauntleroy wasn't so bad. This destination is located past and slightly up the hill from the ferry terminal to Vashon Island. I was able to find nearby street parking. I was amazed to see a large orange Hobart mixer used as a sidewalk planter. I'm assuming it was beyond repair. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted and paused to gaze at the pastry case and overhead menu. I decided to have onsite a large mocha (Caffe Ladro beans), a Salumi Sandwich, and a pistachio orange bombolone. The interior was very clean, pleasant, and full of natural light. I enjoyed the Hobart mixer out front, but there was also an antique stove/oven used as side table to get napkins, flatware, sugar, and cream. I liked the lighting, plants, and bright wall art. Various seating available for small or larger groups via tables or counter. Folks were either reading, on a laptop, or having convos. The mocha ($6) was spot on flavor and temperature wise. That Salumi sandwich ($14) was sizable. The provided knife allowed it to be sliced to take manageable bites. It was nicely crafted and full of fresh ingredients such as capicola, salami, prosciutto, provolone, rosemary aioli, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. A very nice touch was that the focaccia roll was warmed. But the big surprise was the pistachio orange bombolone ($4.25) at the end. Very unassuming, but with that first bite. Wow, fresh and pillowy dough with generous, luscious pastry cream! At the end, it was truly a satisfying meal! I thought briefly of buying other remaining bombolone that remained in the pastry case - it was that amazing. However, I plan to return since I also saw Italian cookies, cornetti, pizza, and cannoli. Open daily 8am to 3pm. Definitely a worthy visit if in the West Seattle/Fauntleroy neighborhood!

Yelp
Have been here a few times to try some pastries and coffee as well as the breakfast sandwich. Everything was really good. For the breakfast Sammie I had the veggie one, which comes with mushrooms. I really liked the soft fresh bread they use! It had a great taste. The coffee was pretty solid as well, I had a cappuccino. For the pastries so far I've had the cinnamon roll and a small cinnamon sugar type of croissant with chocolate filling. This one was sooo good! The service is very friendly and quick. Can't wait to come back and try another sandwich!

Monty H.

Yelp
Great new spot in West Seattle! Stopped in to see what they had. Lots of great sandwich and pizza options as well as some delicious pastries. We tried the margherita pizza, pepperoni pizza, the prosciutto sandwich, and several pastries. Everything we tried was very good and would order again. The coffee is amazing as well. I believe it's cafe ladro coffee but it's made to perfection. The restaurant is small but has a good amount of seating and the staff are super friendly every time we've been. We've now made this a regular place to visit for our family. Check it out

Yelp
I finally was able to stop in after an appointment in the neighborhood. I ordered the prosciutto panini and two cannolis to go. Very cute space and the windows were rolled up to let the fresh air in. Though it was nice that the sandwiches were not premade, it took a very long time to receive my order. It was a small foil-wrapped square but very hefty in weight - couldn't wait to bust it open at home. As someone who opens every sandwich to make sure everything is evenly distributed, this guy was well made and didn't need rearranging, but for picking out some yellowed arugula. It was really good and I ate the whole thing in one sitting. The cannolis were ok - not sure if the shells are made in house or purchased elsewhere. Tasted a little like a thick won ton wrapper deep fried. Filling was good and I pretty much just poked it all out to eat on its own.

Yelp
This is a cute spot that used to be the Original Bakery. I really like the color scheme of the store - low key italiano. The staff was very friendly but tbh, it is hard to look in the case when there is line pressure. There was a lot of different things to look at and they seemed yummy. We bought the salciccia breakfast sandwich which reminded me of a few that i ate when in Italy. It was very good with a brioche bun, egg, sausage, peppers and cheese. The picture attached shows various pastries and cookies that were very tasty. We went early on a weekday and it was not busy but drove by on Saturday and there was a long line. That says something

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood! Delightful staff processed an steady line of patrons looking for their afternoon somethings. Canoli, cornetti, cookies and pizza by the slice were all available today, as they are still completing some mechanical installs. Canoli (orange/pistachio) was delightfully elegant. A twice baked almond cornetti waslight, vibrant and crispy (and as it should be different from it's french neighbor). The lemon ciambella had a great crumb, the right amount of lemon (no punch in face here) and was a nice partner to the coffee I already had in hand, as I was surprised to find the shop open and was not in need of a beverage this afternoon. I look forward to coming back and experiencing the full menu assortment when it's available.

Yelp
Had dinner at Bel Gatto finally and ate until it hurt! So delicious and very cute presentation. I will be back for more for sure! They are so nice there too. Very inviting and familiar. Such a good neighborhood spot.

Yelp
A delicious little Italian style bakery with Sicilian pizza, sandwiches and salads. You can find sfogliatelle, cookies with amarena cherries and very good cannoli among the pastry. This is a great place to lick up a few squares of pizza or a salumi and head to the beach. In the evening, the small corner bakery apparently transforms into a trattoria with a promising menu I have yet to try, but includes some of my favorites like panzanella, pasta alla Norma and mussels with arrabbiata sauce. Looking forward to trying the evening offerings!

Yelp
Fantastic food in intimate, small setting. Dinner is informal, 21+, and out of this world delicious without pretensions! I had the Angeliotti with mushroom in a creamy sherry mushroom sauce with fennel, onions mushroom. Unbelievablely delicious & fresh baked bread & REALL butter kicks off the meal! Brst krpt secret in West Seattle'

Britt H.

Yelp
Drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was cute. There needs to be more FOH staff so service can be a little faster during busy times. I might come back here to try the food and I'd still recommend this bakery to people if you have time to wait.

Destiny G.

Yelp
Love this place. Had the mama Mia breakfast sandwich. Garlic at breakfast is wonderful-who knew?!?! Some seating inside. Resisted the temptation to get cannolis or pastries to go but regretting that decision now.

Yelp
Outstanding brunch and pastries. Great Italian cafe atmosphere. Super friendly service. Prices what you would expect for Seattle. Family friendly. Dinner menu to come. Vegetarian options limited but are expanding.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our meal and overall experience. Presented with an amuse bouche and then shared small plates. Everything was seasoned well and had been nicely plated. We were able to walk in and get a table right away despite not having a reservation. I doubt that will be the case once word spreads. Will be back!

Carl B.

Yelp
Great start for this new place. Service was excellent, food as well. No negatives about the place really, well done!

Kim H.

Yelp
Never had focaccia pizza before bow I never wanna go back very good had half salsuccia and half squashed pig the sal being our favorite both had a bit of a kick to the pig more so also got the brioche cinnamon roll food should have git it warm though huckleberry and root beer sodas both good nice and helpful service too

Gordon W.

Yelp
The fungi e prosciutto was wonderful. She had carbonara and the texture of the meat was next level. I want that on everything I eat from now on! The ambience was nice and intimate. Service was friendly and timely. It's my new favorite Italian restaurant!

Connor L.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were excited to try this place today after a light lunch across the street, we walked in to order coffees and the lady behind the counter didn't acknowledge us and was texting on her phone. She didn't say anything and just kind of glared at us and when we were trying to figure out what we wanted she just scoffed and exclaimed "just let me know when you're ready" in a (for whatever reason) annoyed tone. We then ordered and she proceeded to throw my pastry in a bag and toss it on the counter and just said "here's this" then just yelled "macchiato" as if we weren't standing right in front of her. I don't want to affect the businesses rating so I'm leaving 5 stars but that service was not it. Probably won't return.

Ken M.

Yelp
Very welcome addition to our 'hood. The double baked almond croissant, lemon scone and morning bun are certified deeeelish. My personal favorite is the Ranger cookie, which frequently sells out before I can get one! The staff are very helpful and friendly and the space is warm, open and welcoming. Looking forward to working my way down the sandwich menu.

Natasha T.

Yelp
The twice baked croissant and mocha were delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive. Glad to have them In the neighborhood.

Katherine T.

Yelp
The pizza was underwhelming. The chop salad had obviously been sitting for some time. It was overdressed with an overly sweet dressing. Garbanzos were hard and chalky. Service was meh. They overcharged me (sign in the case had a different price than what rang up). It's a lovely remodel on the inside.

Cori S.

Yelp
This new find just opened around the bend from the Fauntleroy Ferry Dock. Super cute with such a friendly staff and delicious pizza, pastries and selection of drinks (espresso, Italian soda, beer, wine, etc). I can't wait until the garage doors on the front can be open!

Pamela S.

Yelp
I am absolutely delighted to have this wonderful bakery/restaurant in my neighborhood! I have eaten many fine pastries in my lifetime, but Bel Gatto's are perhaps the best I've encountered. And their sandwiches are nothing short of divine, both in taste and in presentation. (love the homemade bread) The ambiance is pleasant, spacious and comfortable, the staff are friendly and welcoming . . . once again, I am so lucky to live "close by", I fully intend to be a frequent customer. Next time I'll try a slice of pizza . . .

Denis M.

Yelp
So thrilled to have Bel Gatto in the neighborhood! The pizza and croissants are great, but the star of my multiple visits have been the paninos! The Maiale Arrosto (incredible roast pork and fresh giardinera) and the Meatball sandwich are excellent...can't wait to try the rest! The pesto pasta salad is worth a visit too.

Laura D.

Yelp
I've got to be honest. I think the 5 star reviews here are from friends or family. I got a salad with lettuce that I would have thrown out if it was in my fridge and pork that was a color I've never seen pork before. I rarely write reviews like this but I wouldn't waste your time here and I don't think the few reviews so far are legit. Go next door to Endolyne Joes..apparently they're the same ownership but the food is so much better

A. M.

Yelp
Very friendly, cheerful staff and charming ambiance. A pleasant step up from the prior bakery but still maintains friendly service. I had an americano (robust and strong, but not burnt) and a mushroom veggie sandwich (also excellent, and the portions are generous). Would like to see some additional veggie options. Might be my new place to crash or do work when I need a break from the WFH. Will be back again!

Andrew O.

Yelp
Nice strong Americano. Morning Bun...a knot of perfection!!!! Not too big, freshly made on the premises, moist, not gooey or overly sweet:) Service prompt, friendly, kind, welcoming. All this 2 minutes drive from Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal. Clean bathroom. Tables not too close together.

T S.

Yelp
They said they've been open a couple of weeks so I'll chalk up the snafus to growing pains. Nice ambiance. Music was at the right volume. Big windows and garage doors provided plenty of sunshine and fresh air. Big clean bathrooms. ADA ramp to get in. We talked to 2 staff members. They weren't familiar with the ingredients but they were nice. Very slow service. Pizza was warmed up but still cold. Good flavor. After we had paid and sat a while we were informed they were out of some ingredients and offered substitutions. Sandwich meat was good but had the occasional hit of too much salt. The veggies were the star. Fresh tomatoes. Pickled veggies were bright and crunchy. The bread may have been baked wrong. Hard to chew. Unusual texture. Amaretti had good flavor but odd texture. Enjoyed a nice lager. Will give them a couple more tries.

Joanne O.

Yelp
Friendly, welcoming and delicious !! Loved the warm feeling of this very lovely cafe. The staff was friendly and welcoming as we entered and we asked lots of questions about all the products. The case was full of pristine and delicious pastries and the staff was well informed about all the products available in the case and on the menu. The cafe offers pastries, coffee, soup, salads, sandwiches, and pizza. I enjoyed a slice of apple strudel that was flakey and filled with perfectly cooked apples and dressed with sliced almonds and dusted with sweet sugar. The cherry cookie, made with almond flour was something you would probably enjoy if you visited a bakery in Italy. Someone is doing an amazing job creating an Italian cafe full endless goodies and delicious choices. A must visit for anyone in the neighborhood.

Diane R.

Yelp
I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Bel Gatto in West Seattle where The Original Bakery was located. My first visit this morning was a delight. Warm, welcoming staff, relaxing warm place open to the outside. My croissant was yummy with the flakiness I love. I look forward to returning!
