Where to Drink Guinness in the Charlotte Area This Holiday Season | Eater

"Belfast Mill in the French Quarter does what any good dive bar does: rounds out an ideal holiday night out in the city. Across from Romare Bearden Park, this tucked-away, drinks-only bar is a true hole-in-the-wall in a historic textile space. Since there are only a few snug tables inside, visitors mostly spill out into the alley, which flurries with sports fans and tourists, reminiscent of a bar-studded European side street. If people are inside though, they’re throwing a dart in one hand and holding a pint of Guinness in the other." - Kayleigh Ruller

Google
Great Irish Pub. There is no kitchen in the pub, so food must be ordered from outside.

Google
My personal experience was great but it’s weird that the bartender force customers to tip. I saw him tell two different people who were here from Mexico to watch the game that “ he gets paid 2$ per hour, that this America, And they have to tip. If not then you have to leave.” I’m a bartender myself so I understand that he wants to get tipped for his service but I don’t think the way he treated people was correct.

Located in the Latta Arcade area, we decided to check out Belfast. They don't serve food but it's definitely a great location to grab a drink and catch-up with friends. I ordered an old fashioned. They didn't serve it with cherries but the bartender added a few upon my request. If you are in the area and just want to grab a drink I recommend checking out this location.

Google
This place offers such a nice atmosphere. The bar is well stocked with the classics and even some adventurous choices too. I was having a challenging day due to a number of cancelations and delays at the airport. Zach made sure to keep the service engaging. I also noted he treated every person as a guest in town, regulars and visitors alike. I will for sure come back.

Google
Such a fun Irish bar with great bar seating, some booths and tables, and outdoor spots to enjoy a day or evening out. The owner and bartender is great and can get you any mixed drink, 🥃 shots, or 🍻🍺 beers you can want. The people also make this place super fun and you can easily strike up a conversation and stay a while.

Google
Traditional cozy Irish pub . They were probably the only one remained open during the snowstorm in Downtown Charlotte. Darts , big TV with sports an various Liquor- what else would you need from Irish pub ) . Prices are great , bartender is cool and crowd is fun . Good times

Google
Great Irish pub decorated with British soccer clubs, and flags. You feel like being in Belfast, watching sports, drinking a Guinness, feeling the Irish vibes. There is a great selection of beer. The staff is very friendly and customers are always smiling.

TJ Doane

Google
It's one of the best Irish pub in Charlotte, confirmed by the Irish post, what else do you need to hear? Featuring always properly poured Guinness pints and a sit down talk to anyone kind of vibe, Belfast has been my go to bar for the last few years. I typically take a picture of the first Guinness I get each week and Belfast has the most consistent pour in all of NC Just stop reading this review and give them a visit.

Yelp
Actual Irish bartenders. Great location. Friendly place. Good draft selection and always has Guinness.
google avatar

Yelp
An ok pub, but a meh bartender who said "there is nothing fun to do in Charlotte" and recommended we head to other bars for difficult drinks.

Yelp
This place is just simply awesome! Tucked away in the brevard courtyard behind the Latta Arcade you will find Belfast Mill along a row of little bars and restaurants. It may be small but it has a lot of personality inside from the old school Irish decor to the worn down but still functional dart boards at the back. The term "hole in the wall" feels perfect to describe it but it has such a cozy vibe it's a fantastic place to sit down for a pint. One of the reasons I miss working in the office is because we had places like this nearby to grab after work beers!
google avatar

Yelp
The woman bartender fantastic. The guy rude. Super rude. Wouldnt let us play darts because i didnt have a beer in my hand okay, i just bought 4 beers in a row and drank them. I was super nice about it and he rolled his eyes and saiid uhh okay congrats i need you to buy a beer rn tho. I said i just had a few ima take a break and get one in a bit then. Then comes to our table and says if your not going to buy anymore drinks i need you guys to leave, it has only been maybe 3 min lol. I just said alright man i hope your day gets better. Just weird bro. Im here on vacation tryin to have a good time and guy was just a super buzz kill. Chunkier guy about 6'3 , thats the culprit. Be nice to him because apparently he's sensitive to nice people lmao.

Yelp
I just left BWW and I've never been happier. I got a water and a drink within the first 3 minutes after arriving. Thank you for making my trip to Charlotte better. Just better

Yelp
Good spot. Very chill. Quality Charlotte beers on tap. Wish they had some brats but I would recommend

Yelp
Tucked away in the French corner is a gem of a bar called The Belfast Mill. We stopped in last night before the knights game to grab a pregame brew and it turned out to be the perfect spot. Great Irish feel the the bar and also has the cotton room located above, huge TV screen and some dart boards give this pub a great day drinking location with friends.

Divyanshu K.

Yelp
It's the worst place u can ever go . The staff was very rude and was demanding for a particular amount of tip.

Tammy H.

Yelp
If you are missing Ireland, head to Belfast! Great selection of Irish beers on tap and a fun atmosphere!!
google avatar

Thor D.

Yelp
Oh hey there! What's in that silver container that says hot? Oh, it's coffee? I'll take a cup!
google avatar

Kevin F.

Yelp
What a neat lil dive bar. There is nothing fancy about this joint and that is perfectly fine with me. Belly up to the bar and tip back a few of the cold draft beers on tap, or choose a whiskey from their endless selection. Jeremiah was more than gracious as a bartender. Very energetic and conversational! It seems like quite the spot to hit up before going to an uptown sporting event. During our visit there were several baseball goers dropping in to pre-game. The restroom is tucked away in the corner furthest from the bar and is tiny. But, does size matter? Do your biznazz and get out... Overall a great place and can't wait to get back.
google avatar

Veronica M.

Yelp
I love this kinds of places! It's small and makes you feel like a local. They have a full bar and beers on draft. They have music (pretty good too) and they have darts. Bartender was super friendly and talkative. Locals that were in there were nice as well. It's on an alley so it makes you feel like you're in another country when you're walking to it. It has other restaurants around too as well so it's not a scary alley . Not sure if they offer food as we only went there for the Guinness. I would definitely come back if I'm in town.

Sydney R.

Yelp
Bartender is an absolute legend. Small place but the aesthetic was one of my favorites for an Irish pub. They had 2 dart boards
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
Small little whole in the wall with good vibes and great music . Prices are fair and the bathroom is clean !
google avatar

Alicia N.

Yelp
Belfast is the most laid back bar in Charlotte. There is no dress code and everyone is super chill. Play a round of darts, or hang out before going to the Knights game. They don't serve food, but they allow you to bring in outside food from the surrounding restaurants.
google avatar

Oliver F.

Yelp
Please be sure to ask the bartender if George from Ohio is the best darts player at the bar
google avatar

Joel J.

Yelp
Neely, our bartender was absolutely awesome! Even when trying to deal with the extra needy locals, she went out of her way to help. Pub and staff....5 stars. Entitled locals...-1 star.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
This place is located in the historic Latta Arcade in Uptown. One of the few historic areas the developers didn't bulldoze down in Charlotte. The Belfast Mill is small Irish pub. Maybe two tables outside of the bar to sit at. Not a place to take a large group of coworkers. Love the historic building and the ambience of this place. I have seen the word "authentic" used in other reviews and I would agree. The menu is classic pub food. Burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, etc. The food is cooked across the alley at another business. Its okay. Nothing memorable. Of course we were there for the beer so I'm not going to ding them on the food.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Good pub fish n chips. Great bar tenders. Nice environment. Love the French Quarter feel.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
This place is no hipster run of the mill Irish named bar. It is the real deal, unpretentious, authentic and cool. A place to go and talk to the barkeep (who is part owner of the place - Bill was a cool chap), play some darts, and drink plenty of pints of Guinness. The bar may be hard to find, but be brave and head upstairs and find the cozy confines and welcoming atmosphere. You will leave happy and meet some new friends.
google avatar

Casey Á.

Yelp
If you like amazing, dark, little Irish style dive bars... this is for you! I went with some friends and they had the NCAA Tournament on, and even though we aren't from the Charlotte area, you immediately feel like you are family in a place like that. Top it off with the cool atmosphere of being on a side street/back alley, and you are set. Go get your Guinness, Magners, or any other drink that is your fancy. JUST GO AND THANK ME LATER!
google avatar

Deshawn H.

Yelp
Honestly the coolest spot in charlotte. Shout out Owen. Continuous group effort to please the guest. Every time I walk in I have a beer on my seat by the time I sit down
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
This place is hidden down an alley I would have never found it if I friend had not recommended it to me. It a cute little alley with a few different bars and a pizza place. There are tables all down the street it kind of reminded me of Little Italy in NYC with the exception there's no Italian restaurants. But the ambiance is the same. The bar is a typical dive bar but very fun and nice staff. Drinks were on point and service was good. I would recommend anyone who wants a night cap to come here. Lots of people and fun energy.
google avatar

T D.

Yelp
Cotton room cut me off without even having a beverage, called Belfast and the nice bartender had no choice but to follow. Won't come back!

Jordyn D.

Yelp
Have been a few times and Matt and Zack have always been great! Super quick to serve and drinks and great and reasonable! Super low key and my favorite place to go!!
google avatar

Abby B.

Yelp
One of the best bars in the latte arcade area! Highly advise for anyone who wants to relax and get a beer. This place doesn't have food and it isn't the place to come and get a fancy cocktail, but it's the perfect bar to catch up with friends, throw some darts, and just relax.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Yes, I am that girl writing a review of an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Days. No shame cause I didn't come here when the sprawls of bar hoppers were out drinking green dyed beer and green Bud Light cans. Came here on a Friday evening when it was basically dead and fell in love with this place! Side note: I had no idea there was an Upstairs until after I read some of these Yelp reviews. Obviously, we didn't need it. Grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a Guinness and Smithwicks (Smithwicks being my Irish beer of choice and Guinness my husbands). We started talking with the bartender, Eoghan (Irish way of spelling Owen) and learned he was from Dublin. Since we are planning a trip to Ireland in Summer 2017, we got a lot of helpful tips and insights from Owen! I think in the end, I loved the authenticity of this bar. It represents what I think Ireland (soon will find out in reality) is all about. People hanging out, chatting, playing darts, watching sports, etc. No frills. Nothing fancy. Just human interactions. Owen told us the Irish community is pretty strong in Charlotte and it was evident from this bar.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Below average service and did not know how to pour a Guinness. Murphy's is much better..
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Atmosphere is good, but the bartender did NOT pour our Guinness properly. VERY dissatisfied. We left after one drink.
google avatar

Dusty T.

Yelp
Small little hole-in-the-wall pub for just having a few drinks. We went on a Thursday night around 6, so it wasn't busy.
google avatar

Lauryn C.

Yelp
Love this little bar. Our bartender Meghan was awesome and we basically had the place to ourselves on a Thursday night (after midnight that is). Great drink specials with a $5 Reyka vodka the night I was visiting. The bar probably only seats 10 people but they have a couple tables to sit outside. This would have been my hangout if it was open when I lived in CLT. I'm a lover of dive bars and this one met all my expectations, dark, small, darts, strong drinks!! They had a great selection of bourbons, though that's not my thing if you like bourbon bars you might want to check this place out. There is quite a bit of construction around this area so it might be a little bit of a cluster to get here. It's also an Irish bar and I've rarely met an Irish bar that I didn't like. Happy to find this whole in the wall, great place to grab some drinks.

Yelp
Just a really cool, funky, hip Irish pub in Uptown Charlotte. Packed on game days! Wonderful location close to BoA Stadium. You will enjoy. Stop by for a Jameson's and Guinness
google avatar

Javier M.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this great little gem on my way to Hooligan's over the weekend and am I glad I did. Like Todd said, the last thing we needed in town was another cartoonish Irish-themed hellhole. So, when we finally reached the top of the steps, not knowing what the hell we were gonna find, we were very pleasantly surprise to find this little piece of Ireland dead smack in soulless Charlotte downtown area. Nice beer selection but I didn't try the food. Next time for sure. The atmosphere was great and the service incredible. I will definitely be coming back regularly.
google avatar

Todd S.

Yelp
When I was handed the Irish breakfast wrap it was like that scene in The Lion King where the mandrill lifts the lion cub up to the sky. Or like that hospital scene when I was born where they handed me over to my father. The image I'm trying to conjure up here, people, is that the Irish breakfast wrap is the size and weight of a baby. It makes a Moe's burrito look like a taquito. It is a taste of Ireland wrapped into a huge f'ing tortilla. Upstairs there's Guinness on tap and an abundance of old country accents. The last thing Charlotte needed was another faux Irish pub, so Barry Leeson & Co. brought the real deal to the coolest area of Uptown.
google avatar

Joy-Alonica B.

Yelp
Really enjoy going here after work for cheap drinks. They always have different drink specials and play sports games on their two tvs and big white screen. It's a typical Irish pub, no frills surroundings. It doesn't get too crowded which is always nice. Only minor issue is their bathroom smells like piss, but that's kinda expected at bars. Def recommend this place for hh.
google avatar

Jenni P.

Yelp
Great little place making the Brevard Courtyard even more fun! It's open late, with great Guinness. Uptown Charlotte keeps getting better with gems like this popping up. Tommy and Barry are incredible. The food is really good (great fish and chips, and the buffalo chicken sandwich is fantastic). Mostly though, I just love the atmosphere and friendly people. I have brought lots of friends here, and will definitely continue to do so.
google avatar

Will B.

Yelp
Best dive bar in Charlotte hands down. Authentic Irish bartenders and authentic Irish beer and cider combined with an easygoing atmosphere will make anyone feel right at home. Good beer selection and the biggest Irish whiskey selection I've seen in the Queen City. Whether just stopping in for a beer or a night out with friends, this is one place you dont want to miss!
google avatar

Lindsay H.

Yelp
Another great bar in Brevard Courtyard! The brogues are as plentiful as the Guinness & as previous reviewers said, the breakfast wrap is tasty and no kidding aside, the size of a baby. Barry has created a wonderful little Irish pub reminiscent of the small corner pubs in Ireland.
google avatar

Danga F.

Yelp
Wow, exactly the cool rustic authentic Irish Pub my son and I were looking for after the Panthers game. 4 hours later we felt like we had just a family reunion, exhausted from laughing, meeting new great people and spending time at the end of the bar with the owner and our new friend Barry. We have been to a lot of pubs all over Ireland and this is the real deal! Barry and his beautiful daughter, also Ian, Jonathan and countless others make you feel like family. Go, grab a seat at the bar, let your perfectly poured Guinness settle then enjoy the ambiance of good people and good drink. We live in Florida but look forward to our next trip to Charlotte, as the Belfast Inn will definitely be on our priority list.
google avatar

Michael E.

Yelp
So after Vintage it was onto another drink at a place right next door. Laid back bar to just sit around and talk.
google avatar

Walter S.

Yelp
This is a local/dive type Irish pub and they do it well. Two good dartboards and the bartenders are attentive and helpful. If you play darts and drink beer you will be satisfied here. They don't serve food here but you are welcome to bring some grub in with you.
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
Awesome little (and I mean tiny, like 20-people-is-the-fire-code tiny) place tucked away in an alleyway with some other bars. Such a neat little area. One could easily picture themselves in any European city while walking up and down the small alleyway. I pictured myself grabbing a pint while Jack the Ripper was nearby slicing and dicing. Morbid? Sure. Weird? I get that. Awesome? You bet! Stopped in and grabbed a couple local beers, an IPA and a Pumpkin beer. Both were served a little too cold but both tasted fresh as hell. It was a loud and raucous atmosphere before a football game. A little too loud for the tiny space, but we enjoyed ourselves. I would go back here in a heartbeat. Love this kind of place.
google avatar

Corbin B.

Yelp
Sunday night after panthers game. Grabbin a quick bite to eat. Was headed to picassos for the jerk wings and sadly picassos is no longer a charlotte staple. Blueberry chipotle wings at the next open door is the result. Service good. Atmosphere cool stuff and food pretty damn good. Good choice for pre or post game. Cheers!
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
Nice dart board Good selection of Euro beers and Irish whiskey
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
A brilliant Irish spot that's a bit hidden, but worth the discoverin'! Latta Arcade-where this pub is- is cool. The Guinness is brilliant. The owners are Irish, and good people-as you would expect! Perfect pre-game or post-game pints for Panthers and Knights games. Also the whole Latta Arcade alley is one of the only old spots left in this "New South" city. Well done lads!
google avatar

Philip S.

Yelp
This is a great little dive bar. If you want to go somewhere with the lights dimmed and just get a beer or whiskey without worrying about others, this is your spot. It's definitely far from depressing; it's just a dive with a welcoming staff. It's best for drinking alone and chatting with one of the great bartenders or heading there with a friend or two.

Jack N.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. No food. Small intimate and relaxingly dark inside. Inexpensive drink prices with good selection of tap beers and Irish whiskey.
google avatar

Breanne R.

Yelp
A small, local bar with dim lighting and great energy. A great place to stop in for a drink or spend the entire evening with a cold Guinness and darts. Megan (who seems to be the only bartender there) makes some delicious and unique shots! Not the most room to move around, but has the option to sit outside and enjoy the alley's high energy at night, which is typically a crowded area. Decent beer selection too for a small bar, with IPAs!
