Gorgeous restaurant, and the service was very good for Belgium. The first time, I was there with a group of nine, and we all got our food at the same time, beautifully presented.
We started off with a round of cocktails. I had the Belga Queen, a fruity champagne concoction, and it was pretty good, not too sweet. The server provided wine recommendations with dinner, and I enjoyed the two I tried.
But I was there for the food, and it exceeded my expectations!
The scallop millefeuille was sublime, just perfectly balanced and with a wonderful texture. My vegetarian risotto was good for vegetarian risotto, beautifully presented, and a decent choice if you're not hungry for a full plate, but nothing to write home about.
The vanilla creme brulee was very good, though I usually prefer it without vanilla. I also tried some of my friend's speculoos ice cream, and another friend's chocolate mousse. All were excellent.
I probably would have given Belga Queen five stars had I not returned for lunch a few weeks later. There, I had a piece of meat so bland that the only thing I remember about it is my disappointment.
There's also the issue of the cheesy, non-functional, "high tech" menus. I was trying to read the menu online before going, and instead of just having a list or pdf, they have annoying flash videos. It wasn't working, so I just waited to see the menu when I arrived. Much to my horror, they have these electronic tablet/screens as their menus in the restaurant, with the same exact, non-functional, flash-type interface. It used a combination of scrolling, clicking, and arrows that was very confusing. Also, mine crapped out when I tried to view the drink menu, and it got stuck on an error screen.
I would definitely go back for dinner or drinks, but not for lunch.
