Went there in the middle of the week I'd actually never been there before my boyfriend was there last about 5 years ago when he was really craving the paprikash. I'm not really a fan of Barberton chicken and the sides were great. Boyfriend got the paprikash and he was in 7th Heaven said it was just as good as his mom's back in the day. Service was efficient and great. Used the women's room and it was the most immaculate restaurant bathroom I've ever seen. Every person I passed greeted me and they were all friendly so they were all on the same page were trained that way that was nice. All over great experience!

Chicken was crispy and tender with more of a shake n' bake style coating and flavor. Green beans were straight from a can, mac and cheese tasted worst than a box, spicy rice was cold and meh, and cole slaw was ok. Service was good, but it took 50 minutes to get the food delivered. Pies are store bought and mashed potatoes are from a box. Place is expensive (see picture for coke). .

We went when they opened on a Saturday at noon. Nice large booths that can seat 6 adults. Lots of parking. The food was great and not greasy at all. The service was excellent. Our server has been working there for 26 years. There is a nice kids menu with pictures of the food so it's easy to pick what they want.

Overall: bad. Details: our server was a nice older lady. The portions were HUGE. The food was not good, the chicken breading was hard and flavorless. The fries were bleh. Mac & cheese and mashed potatoes were simply ok but were the highlight in a mediocre meal. Overall, if you're looking for an old timey feel and outdated food this place is for you. But if you're looking for a delicious meal, keep looking.

I have been going to Belgrades for 60 years . Family events from birthdays to weddings It is the best chicken anywhere!!! I don't even need a menu. Regular mixed chicken with fries hot sauce and coleslaw you won't go home hungry

The outside appearance was neat ,lot handicap accessible and plenty of parking .Waitress was kind and gave customers attention : refills , suggestive of menue items . The chicken lived up to its reputation . Crunchy on outside moist and flavorful on inside .choice of bread white and rye while enjoying salad . The fish lightly breaded with lemon and black pepper mixed in perfection with breading .pleasantly flaky and moist . Vegetables that have such appeal . If you like French fries ,better be hungry the portions are a pleasant surprise having that just right texture .clean, friendly, welcoming atmosphere . handicap accommodations in seating and restrooms. The expectation was exceeded . The price $55.00 tip included . Once you've experienced the offerings,you will be making your way back . Congratulations to all at Belgrade restaurant in Barberton (WELL DONE ) the hot sauce is recommended

Dined there today Feb 5th 2026 Food was good, our server was great. Here's the problem, ordered 3pc thighs, small order dumplings and side hot sauce to go. The hot sauce was in styrofoam cup 2 1/2" high, so moral of story

I love Belgrade's chicken dinners -- crave it, and the service is great. My only wish would be they would be open later at night...but it is expensive, I realize with all the people you employ in the kitchen and servers who cover alot of rooms. I also would like to order food delivery like DoorDash or Instacart. I grew up going to Belgrade Gardens, and they have kept the restaurant's legacy alive and well.

Excellent food! The staff is super nice & helpful. I ate the grilled chicken & fries and really enjoyed my meal. The chicken was tender, and fries were hot. I also ate the cold slaw, and green beans, which were delicious too. The bread was a perfect accompaniment to my meal. The friends I was with enjoyed their food too. They ordered the homemade dumplings and fried chicken. We all had a good time eating here. Portions are large, so we had leftovers to take home. Everything re-heated well the next day. The restaurant had a good atmosphere. Will come back here to eat again!

I have been going to Belgrade's since I was a child. Quality of service has gone down hill since they put a new manager in place. The staff are all still wonderful but it's clear there are issues. Last time I was there they had no placemats and no brown bread. When we checked out we were told they would no longer honor our punch cards. I have heard similar stories from friends recently as well concerning price changes when doing pick up orders. It's unfortunate as Belgrade's has been a staple in my life for 40 years.

Best Serbian chicken ever. The wife loves the hot sauce. I'm partial to the coleslaw. The Chicken is so tender. The staff is very kind.

I hadn't been here in awhile, but the chicken was just as I had remembered it. Crispy and flavorful on the outside and moist on the inside. Hot sauce was kickin' and the coleslaw was delicious as usual. I use the fries as vessels for the hot sauce. I don't know why it tastes so good over fries but it just does. Now, I'm not gonna remove a star or anything, but the ambiance is a little dated. The lights are a little too bright. The service is a little too slow (albeit very friendly!) Of the Barberton chicken houses, I think this one is the priciest. I'm not sure it is the "best" per se, as they all have their merits. But I really did enjoy my visit here the other day.

Not my favorite chicken, but overall good price and plenty of food. I will say it's probably me because it was busy, constant flow of people. Try it

We placed a rather large order over the phone for pickup when some family came to visit. They told us a time to come get it, we showed up at said time and waited no more than 2-3 minutes to get our food. The gentleman working rang us out and we were on our way. The food itself was okay. I wasn't enamored by it, but didn't dislike it. I did decide to try something new; so that could be on me. I did try a few bites of things from other family members and it was good. We also got a few things in our bag that we didn't order. Whether intentional or not, it was nice to receive a few extra sides. I don't think anyone disliked their food so would definitely stop by again whether intention person or takeout. I'd like to eat there since the restaurant parking lot is massive but the inside doesn't look that big, seemed a bit dark, but went back a long way.

Manager told us we cannot bring in our own cake because the health department says but I don't think that's true service was very good. we do it every year

Belgrade Gardens has been my go-to Barberton chicken place since my parents first took me there 50+ years ago. I love everything about it - the setting of the restaurant, the service is always great, and the food! Consistently delicious - and the dumplings...omg!!! Chef's kiss

Made a reservation for Sunday at 5:45. Our party consisted of 9 adults and 5 kids. Took a good 20 minutes to even be greeted and take our drink order, to the point where we made sure to order our food as well when the server finally came. Assume our order went in around 6:15-20. Bread came out quickly as well as some of the soups and sides. After that, we waited almost an hour/hour 15 for the rest of the food to come out. The only time we received an update that the "kitchen messed up, it's not my fault" was when someone from our table went to the server to request an update (as they had a plane to catch and had to take their food to go lol). We didn't receive our food until 7:30-45 (restaurant closes at 7:30). Chicken was hot (because it was just made) but some of the sides were freezing cold (the Mac and cheese & mashed potatoes). Best food items we had, in my opinion, was the coleslaw and the dumpling soup. We also didn't get refills until the food was already out. Now, I could understand this for a jam packed restaurant, this was anything but. When we came there was probably a total of 10 maybe 15 tables in the entire restaurant, us being the largest party. Yes we were given a 20% discount for the trouble, which was appreciated and necessary, but we also had to ask for it.... I know this place is an Akron/Barberton staple but somethings gotta give with the service and the kitchen running smoothly. There's no reason it should take a total of 2.5 hours to enjoy your meal.

For years, Belgrade s was THE place for a great chicken dinner. I've come to the conclusion that Belgrade's is not all that great. First of all, the portions are really small. Am I eating pigeon wings, cause they are tiny. Phil's favorite, chicken backs, have also diminished. What the what? Paying way too much for skimpy chicken. As for the sides, best hot rice. The best. Eating in? Order the fries, but eat them fast, because they get cold fast. Never order fries to go. Coleslaw, the best vinegar based slaw I've ever had. Because of Belgrade's recipe, I won't eat mayonnaise based slaw again. Service, slow. I don't think they've changed the restaurant in years, same wood paneling and pictures, is the owner really related to those pictured? Don't know, just know that the Barberton Chicken Houses are not as good as I remembered.

Mediocre. Meh. Nothing much to brag about. I am sure that this place, in its heyday, was as good as all the articles claim. But I didn't find anything special about it. The ambiance is reminiscent of 30-40 years ago. The food was ok. Not great. Not bad. Just ok.

Okay, so I've heard about this Serbian-style fried chicken in Barberton, and this place seemed to be the one where people said to go get it. I guess this is one of those situations where the hype kind of ruined it. It was fine, but I must say it was a little too "bready." The sweet slaw was fantastic. Tomato (hot sauce) side was good, too. The chicken, meh.

The food is absolutely amazing!! Servers are always friendly. Whatever you order, you will not leave hungry. The chicken paprikash is THE best I've ever had. Very unique recipe

Love the food here But whoever is working the phones now is very rude and obviously not happy with her job I called to place an order and she said "with an additude " we are very busy and it will be 45 minutes to an hour I said ok Then she hung up on me Wow

I have been to Belgrades since they began with $1.00 dinners. It's always the same. Fairly good. Usually ....lately I order takeout. The decor / ambiance however hasn't kept up with price increases. It looks rather neglected and there is a unpleasant Odor that hits as soon as you come in. The food is okay, Dinner will cost about $20 per person and there are several options. Chicken /fish, hot sauce, potatoes, and coleslaw are the most popular . Locals are very loyal to their restaurant of choice so I imagine this review won't change anyone's mind but if you're not a local, please know that Barberton has many chicken dinner restaurants so I would suggest to try others as well .

From Florida - and Belgrade's is one of our favorite places to eat when we visit Akron. Been coming for over 30 years. Great chicken every time!

Came here after BF read all the rave reviews but we were immensely disappointed. I'm a fried chicken lover and while nothing will ever compare with Korean fried chicken or Japanese karaage, I thought I'd give this a fair shot, at least. The building is so weird--like the inside of a fussy old grandma's house mixed with low ceilings, bad ventilation, low lighting, cheap diner furniture and a musty smell. On a Saturday night, we waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Fine, I suppose, for such a hoppin' place, but if they close at 7:30pm, I don't see how anyone will be served even if they come at 6pm. After sitting down, we weren't checked on until another 5 minutes later. Our waitress put in our order and then ensued close to 30 minutes of waiting. Free sliced bread was offered but I wonder why our sides couldn't have come faster? My so-called side salad was the saddest excuse for a salad ever. It was 4 thin slices of white onion, half a slice of tomato, 2 nibs of green pepper and the rest watery iceberg lettuce. Waitress never asked me what dressing I wanted so that took another round of waiting to get to. My BF got his food first--he ordered chicken backs (due to recommendations from reviews) and let's just say no one should ever order these. There is absolutely no meat and all breading. The breading is bread crumbs instead of a flavorful batter and it is heavy, doesn't stick to the chicken and something you can get from a processed frozen meats section at Walmart. A bone got lodged in his tooth and even 5 chicken backs wasn't really much food at all. My order of dark meat in the regular portion never arrived at all. Our server didn't note it down at all...so it was yet another 8 minutes waiting for that order. They subbed a chicken back for a drumstick (wrong call) and it just ruined the meal. The coleslaw--vinegar based and probably the best thing about this place. The "hot sauce" is just watery salsa with rice in it. Random! The fries were soooo disappointing. I saw everyone else's plate and they were thick and crunchy looking but when I received my basket, they were soggy, room temperature and literally all the ends and waste pieces instead of chunky middle ones. I was the only non-white person in the entire place so not sure if someone just didn't like me or I had bad luck or what...not a great experience. Not coming here and don't recommend it at all. Giant Eagle has a much better 8-pc fried chicken meal in their prepared section that you don't have to wait 50 minutes to eat.

Food is disgusting employees are rude they're overpriced and always have horrible inspection reports. Eat there at your own risk.

Belgrade Gardens is family owned and operated. They have been serving really delicious fried chicken dinners since 1933. Having grown up in the area, I ate at Belgrade Gardens with my family many times so I looked forward to visiting them again when I was back home for a recent visit. We visited on a Sunday after church. The restaurant was pretty full but our party of ten didn't have to wait long to be seated in one of their small private dining rooms. Service was friendly and efficient throughout our visit. Courses were served at a proper pace and drinks were refilled as needed. Belgrade Gardens still serves complimentary bread with meals so fresh slices were delivered to the table shortly after we were seated. Two types of bread slices were served (white and rye) with whipped butter. I always appreciate good fresh bread with real soft and spreadable butter so I found it very enjoyable. throughout my younger years when our family would regularly dine here, I always ordered the same thing. I saw no reason to change now. Chicken dinners are served with your choice of three side dishes so it was fried chicken, coleslaw, french fries and hot sauce. The coleslaw was served first. I am a lover of coleslaw. I generally prefer the creamy style but the vinegar-based coleslaw served at Belgrade Gardens is some of the best I've ever had with just a little tang and so much wonderful flavor. The fried chicken was just as delicious as I remembered. Crispy on the outside with just the right amount of breading, moist and flavorful on the inside. It was a real delight for me. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed their fresh cut french fries, they were seasoned just right and oh so delicious. The hot sauce (think rice in a spicy tomato based sauce) is out of this world. After eating it I remembered why it was always one of my favorites, it has just the right amount of spice and is so very delicious. I really enjoyed my meal as did everyone else in my party. I would break down my dining experience as follows. Service - 5 stars Bread and Butter - 4 stars Coleslaw - 5 stars + Fried Chicken - 4.5 stars French Fries - 4.5 stars Hot Sauce - 5 stars + I haven't eaten here in years as my trips back home are usually pretty short and time is precious but after having such a wonderful meal I will be sure to return more often when I am back home in Ohio visiting family.

The food and service was amazing. The chicken is so moist and tender. The hot sauce was wonderful and I love to stick my chicken in it. The coleslaw was tangy and good. I recommend this place wholeheartedly. It is horribly expensive just so you know.

This is a Barberton chicken five-star rating. Of all the chicken houses in the area, this place is the best. The dumplings are delicious, the fries are better than I remember them from my days living in the area and the hot sauce and cole slaw are very tasty. They Anaya cook the chicken to a golden brown and it stays juicy. Now if they only could ship it to NJ...

Been here a handful of times over the last 10 years. But it's been way precovid since my last visit. So at least a good 3 years. Decided to get some take out on a Sunday later afternoon. Got a Deluxe take out. 45 min wait at least for chicken we were told. AND just personal opinion but pretty pricey for a takeout option on this Deluxe menu almost $42. Wow! I think that's pretty pricey. But there prices were always kinda high in my opinion. Chicken is good. We got 13 pieces in the bucket. Kinda hard to tell what chicken part was what cuz of the thick breading. It's good. Very crunchy and chicken is moist. Sides were fries. Fresh cut fries but as a carry out item it will get really cold. So you have to reheat. Not sure if the mashed potato would be better. The hot rice is good. Love that. And the cole slaw is vinegar based and really good! To me because of the cost factor it is a treat. And it's better to eat there. We are taking it home from quite a distance so the sides couldn't hold up. Chicken a bit cold is fine. Sides are not. So eat there unless you live close. I saw chicken paprikash on the menu. I'd like to try that next time! Love some good paprikash. Food is good! Just kinda pricey. But seems to have some quality to it. I've been to White House and to be honest both are pretty close to the same thing to me. I know they are at war but as for Barberton chicken places both seem fine options. Belgrade is the one I've eaten at most. But it was more based on location than taste. Overall good option for Barberton chicken. Service was kinda grumpy. We did take out and the guy who waited on us was an older guy who seemed annoyed that we were ordering take out. But past service has been good. Maybe caught him at a bad moment.

Always a favorite to visit when in Akron area. Low key, old-style building and menu.. Fried Chicken and fish....Can't tell you if anything else on the menu is any good. When yo live nearly a thousand miles away and travel back in time both the restaurant and my home.... Have t order and eat the things that brought you there. Real Fries not frozen! Got a 8 ounce of mashed potatoes order was so small for $6 worth of mashed potatoes. Chicken was too sweet and breading was too thick. Felt like biting into rubber. Very disappointed. Got the chicken and dumpling soup which consist of dirty tasting carrots and two giant dumplings taking up the whole bowl so there's little broth left when taken out. 4/10. Service was nice though.

The dumplings might be worth the trip, they might not. I don't see much reason to go here if you're under 60 and didn't just get out of church service. It's like walking into a Golden Girls color schemed church party. Food: There's some good here - especially the home made dumplings with a spicy oil. Sides are pretty much what you would expect at a senior center. Not bad, just so bland. There's a lot said about Barberton fried chicken, I'm just not sure why. Corn meal consistency with no spices to be seen. I don't need 11, but at least two would be nice. Restaurant/Service: I think I said all I needed to about decor, but it is clean (except for the bathrooms). The server and everyone we ran into were nice. No problems there. Pricing: Definitely a bit overpriced. $3.59 for a pop. $12.49 for 2 chicken legs with 3 sides. $17.79 for 2 partial breasts and 3 sides.

The food, great! Service, great! Atmosphere, great! Prices, a little high but what can you expect in 2023? Only downside is . . . the smell. It's like your 90-year old auntie's perfume permeates the place. I don't know if it's their cleaning solution or the age of the building or what, but it really put a damper on enjoying my meal. Other than that, tho, it was fine!

I grew up in Massillon not close to here but enjoyable ride with parents when I knew a delicious chicken dinner was waiting for me. This time was no different. This is on my bucket list forever. Loved every time I come. Chicken has a flavor like no other chicken in the eastern USA. In more than a half century, I have tasted all the chicken in this area. And Belgrade had lived up to it's reputation. The rest of the area restaurants have lost the service and good tasting chicken, slaw, and hot rice that are an unbeatable combo. Besides it is clean and vintage pleasant to the eyes. Kudos to our server Tara. Go eat and enjoy people.

Every time I make a trip to Akron, I have to eat at Belgrade Gardens. No one makes fried chicken (and fries) like they do. My brother and I did take out; the wait was long because they are always busy, and I ordered there, but the wait is always worth it. Their bread is fresh every time. The workers are busy, yet take time to be kind. I got the feeling they worked quickly in order to cut the wait time. All in all, one of my favorites!

We used to go quite often and recently went twice. Generally one meal doesn't set the tone for us, everyone has off days. However, the visits were the same both times. The grease seems dirty/highly overused, prices are extremely high for the quality of food you receive. We of course did the chicken dinners and one fish dinner and for 3 people was close to $90 with tip. The people are friendly, but servers stretched very thin with the amount of tables they service. Unfortunately will not go again.

Just about anytime anyone in my family visits Ohio, we have to stop at Belgrades! Love the nostalgic atmosphere from my youth. Crave their chicken, hot sauce, fries and cold slaw combination. Wish, I weren't in Florida right now....then I could go for some right now!

I stopped in for a to-go bucket of chicken. Everything was like I remember! I always order their wings and they're huge. Must be from Godzilla Chickens. I couldn't wait to get home--my car smelled so good. Packaged just like I remember with your choice of sides, and I chose the traditional coleslaw and hot sauce/a spicy rice. Tasty as always. I personally think this is absolutely the best chicken around. The hot sauce is fabulous. The coleslaw sweet and tangy. The fries are fantastic and the staff is always friendly and courteous. Belgrades put Barberton on the map. This is a MUST STOP for fried chicken. I have been eating Belgrades for over 50 years and still love this place. Not too many places left you can get cherry pop also. In business since 1933 so whatever they are doing, they must be doing it right.

Delicious chicken with a nostalgic dining feel. Fried chicken is crispy outside and juicy inside. Lots of sides to choose from. Finely cut coleslaw with a light vinegar dressing was also delicious

Sorry, I'm extremely disappointed. The chicken was DRY. The server was great-liked the slaw, BUT for a place that everyone brags about. This is my worst chicken experience.

Had dinner at this restaurant on Sunday evening. Food was excellent,service was good.The hot sauce can not be beat as well as the chicken.Pricing was a little bit expensive,but well worth it.We have been a customer for many years! I remember when the price was only $1.25 for a dinner.That was in the old days! Will definitely keep coming back.

We've been going to Belgrade Gardens for years. Love the chicken! Sides we love are the cole slaw (shredded cabbage and a light vinegar sauce), rice pilaf and hot sauce (more of a tomato-rice mix with a bit of spice-not hot for me, but very tasty). The place is a bit dated but staff is friendly and the chicken is great.

Kitchen help doing the "allergy salute" on their nose with their finger, chicken over done, dry and tough. I think they neglected to change the oil in the fryer; the chicken tasted burnt and my guts were in turmoil for 3 days. Used to be a treat to eat there, but slow, slipshod service and bad chicken plus the highest prices in town take it off my list.

Listen, I am no one special. I like good food and I don't mind traveling a bit to have a decent meal. My husband and I are empty nesters so we don't have much going on. Last night, I suggested we drive to Barberton from Cleveland to try this place for our Sunday afternoon. . A place that has been around since our parents were born and I love supporting our history in Oh-io. The place is super clean. And yes, the clients are mostly over the age of 65. It's Sunday at 1:00 so I would not expect it differently. But the chicken that came out ( in our opinion) was not earth shattering.

A staple of my childhood. Best chicken, hot rice and coleslaw you can get! Also, try the chicken paprikash! Service is always great. Old-school interior with strong,Midwest family vibes.

Great chicken! Have t eaten here in 30 years but still the best. Not a fancy place so don't expect fancy wine or drinks. No cocktails and they close very early.

One of the worst dining experiences we've had in quite a while. My husband is almost 6'4", and they sat us in a booth that was so small, we literally knocked knees, and stepped on each other's toes the whole time. My husband almost couldn't walk when we left because he was so cramped up. Service was very slow. Took forever for our meals to come. Portions were small. I ordered grilled chicken breast, and it was so overcooked, it was like chicken jerky. We ate our meal without anything to drink, because our waitress never came back for drink refills. My husband's fried chicken pieces were very small, and way over priced for what he got. When my husband paid our check, he waited for the host to ask how our meal was, but he never did. We think he knew things weren't very good, because several other diners around us were having a similar experience that day. Our check number on 7/23/24 was #31, table 113. Over $35 for two crummy meals. Save your money and time, and go to Cracker Barrel.

Nice people great service, but it's a taste that the local community has acquired, chances are if you're anything like me, and my family your going to struggle to enjoy the food... we ordered four different things two types of chicken, paid a lot of money to not really eat anything. I'm sure some people love it and I suspect that's because they grew up on it.

Yum they never let you down. The food is always delicious. I usually get it to go and have never been disappointed.
