8 Wondrous Bridges to Nowhere

"The sea frequently threatens to drown this forsaken bridge, whirling around its base and cutting it off from the land. But surprisingly, this strange “bridge to nowhere” actually does lead to somewhere.   It’s used by those looking to cross the Biel Water, a reasonably large stream that runs through the village of Biel just to the south of Dunbar, Scotland. The stream runs for almost three miles from the Luggate Burn before eventually finding its way into to Belhaven Bay. Just before it discharges into the North Sea, the stream flows under a short metal footbridge with concrete pillars and steps. At low tide, you can walk over this bridge to access the beach beyond it. When the tide comes surging into the shore, what should be an easy path to the beach becomes suddenly impassable. At high tide, the water swallows the land around the bridge, making it look as though it’s stranded in the middle of a sea. Though not helpful for those looking to cross, the sight of the lonely bridge surrounded by swirling waters that reflect the colors of the sky above makes for a beautiful photograph." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Great beach for a sunny day out. The bridge as such is a bridge to nowhere. Sands of the beach had an interesting pattern on them. Pet friendly. Few coffee shops near by. Public rest rooms were neat and clean. 30 mins from Edinburgh by car and it's a must visit

Beautiful area and even better when you actually get a stunning sunset and the tide is in

Nice beach walk, time it right and you’ll see “the bridge to nowhere” otherwise you get a huge beach to walk along ideal for dog walkers. If you are making the trip remember and check tide times especially for the best view of the bridge, there is car park that charges £2.50 for parking (cash only - card payment you need the RingGo app) and is not in the best condition in places but if you drive down the road a little you will find a small parking area with no charge there is only a few spaces there though so you can chance your luck

Great beach and coastal walk. Plenty of different birds to see. Lovely stretch of sand to walk the dog on but tide comes in fast so best to keep an eye on it.

Not much to see ss far as the bridge is concerned but a lovely area. Large car park as you drive down towards, but they charge a small fee. A tiny car park further down which is free but iterally space for 5 vehicles

Such a lovely spot. Really handy toilet facilities just up from here as well. Lovely to watch horses gallop on the beach.

The bridge to nowhere, a bridge on a beach, but a nice bridge on an excellent beach in Dunbar. Go there, take your surf board, trunks and sun cream.

We had visited the bridge before, but never actually crossed it due to the tide being in. But this time our eldest and me walked across and went to enjoy the beach and view, and what a view and setting it is too!
