The 31 Best Places To Eat & Stay In Sydney - Sydney - The Infatuation

"Pizza is a big deal in Sydney, and it’s not unusual to get into a heated debate over the best spot, the best crust style, and whether blotting is sacrilegious. But you’ll be far too distracted by how good the food is at Bella Brutta to comment on the way your friends fold their slices. This Newtown spot serves thin, wood-fired pizzas with toppings like mortadella, fior di latte, and clams and has a wine list full of local, natural wines. Just make sure you save room for dessert—the tiramisu and cannoli are two great choices." - caroline clements 33

Lovely pizza. Lovely service. Lovely atmosphere. We tried Garlic bread, Buratta, Stuffed Zucchini Flowers and Pumpkin Arancini for appetizer. Then Margarita, Clam and Potato pizza. The best was Garlic Bread, Margarita and Clam (if you like seafood. Also ask for side of chili sauce and add to it. It’s a game changer). The potato pizza was a disappointment unfortunately. We had huge hopes but didn’t live up to its hype. Still some of the best pizza and probably best garlic bread in town.

Overall, I would rate the experience a 3.5 out of 5, which I rounded up to 4. The pizza itself was average. My expectations were quite high due to the strong social media hype and the difficulty of getting a table, which ultimately influenced my perception. In reality, the pizza was ok, but not memorable. It wasn’t bad by any means, just not outstanding either. It lacked the qualities you’d expect from something truly gourmet or exceptional, and felt like a fairly standard pizza that could be found at many other places. The service was acceptable—nothing to complain about, but nothing particularly noteworthy either. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience, though it didn’t quite live up to the hype.

The food was an absolute highlight. We started with the garlic bread (more like a garlic pizza), salumi plate, eggplant parmigiana, and a sugar plum tomato, nectarine & burrata salad. Each dish complemented the others beautifully—the refreshing salad balanced the richness of the salumi and garlic bread perfectly. The garlic bread itself was a standout: bold enough to enjoy on its own, yet subtle enough to pair with other dishes, and ideal for mopping up those delicious oils and sauces. For mains, we tried the clam, potato, and sausage pizzas. The clam pizza was exceptional—delicate, not overly fishy, with a zesty lemon kick that made every bite sing. The potato pizza surprised me too; carbs on carbs isn’t usually my thing, but the garlic and rosemary worked wonders. The sausage pizza was good, though leaning towards the average side compared to the others. My only real disappointment was the burrata in the salad—it felt small for sharing and didn’t quite satisfy our cheese cravings. Honestly, that dish is better suited for one or two people, so if there are more of you, maybe order another. I’m not usually one for red wine—my boyfriend and his family are slowly trying to convert me! They ordered a chilled red called Gonzo to start the night, which wasn’t to my taste, so I asked for help finishing it. The second red, Lezer, was much more palatable and paired beautifully with the dishes. Service was fantastic thanks to our waiter, “V” (Venus). Warm, engaging, and genuinely attentive—he elevated the whole experience. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, with an open kitchen and wood-fired oven adding to the charm. Overall, Bella Brutta delivers on flavour, vibe, and service. Highly recommend—and I’ll definitely be back.

Google
Such a busy Saturday dinner but everything was magnificent. Opened kitchen with the wood-fired oven right between the restaurant that you can clearly see how the chefs create your beautiful food. Highly recommend the clam and sausage pizza, all the flavor was well-blended and balanced. I will suggest to make a reservation beforehand because it’s always so busy there.

Google
This beloved pizzeria in Newtown never disappoints. Their signature potato pizza is a standout, featuring a delightful combination of roasted potatoes, cheese, caramelized garlic, and rosemary. For an extra $9, you can add guanciale for a richer flavor. The roasted prawns with butter and capers are equally exquisite. The service is exceptional; the staff and chefs are friendly.

Ordered the set menu but would've paid ~$100 less if we had ordered everything ala carte. Wrote an email to get clarification but no response :( Very sad because I actually love their food! What we paid: $65 x 4 = $260 What we got: Olives - 9 Garlic bread - 14 Prosciutto & mozzarella - 26 Calamari - 26 Darling mills mesclun, palm sugar vinaigrette - 18 Hazelnut tiramisu - 18 Sausage pizza - 32 Clam pizza - 34 Total: $177

First visit here and fell in love. I smell great pizza instantly once I got to my seat. Friendly and helpful hosts make me comfortable at seat. Pizza dough is the way I love, with great toppings that are not overwhelm. Their improvised tiramisu too taste great and I even take away another Tiramisu shared with my besties who couldn’t make it that day. (FYI: She love it too!) Definitely will dine here again! In total I had 2 Primitivo, 1 Pizza, 2 Tiramisu cost $104.40.

Bella Brutta consistently serves some of the best pizza in Sydney. The crust is perfectly chewy with a light char, and the toppings are fresh and creative without being overdone. Great vibe inside, friendly staff, and always a reliable spot for a delicious night out. Highly recommend the clam pizza!
