"Since 1982, Bella Italia Pizza has been owned and operated by Vito and Maria Cilluffo, two Sicilian immigrants who came to this country for opportunity. To see such corporate marketing compete so obnoxiously in front of their family-owned business is disheartening — especially when Bella’s pizza is exponentially better." - Ernest Owens

*Disclaimer: this review is a combined effort between myself and my 8 year old son.* Bella Italia is hands down our favorite pizza restaurant. It's also the only one we go to and actually sit down and dine in (or outside of its a nice day). We literally refer to the business as 'Favorite Pizza Place' instead of Bella Italia. It's an inside thing. Bella has the best pizza we've had in the Philadelphia area. NY/NJ pizza in my opinion is the best pizza and this hits as close to home as I've had here. We typically order pizza and wings. The crust is great. It's light, airy, and crispy. The cheese and sauce are both flavorful. The pizza is cooked perfectly. Never overcooked or burnt. The hot buffalo wings are a go to. Always cooked and coated to perfection. Six is never enough but 12 is too much. After this visit, I think it's time to move up to 12 since someone is getting older and hungrier. No matter who is at the register, it is always a pleasant exchange and experience. So, I never mind tipping. I'm probably not saying anything that hasn't already been said by someone else. I'll just say if you're in the area, come check them out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Very small portions very high price, I got a 10 piece chicken wings $24 dollars, very small pieces just like my pinkie

Bella Pizza was amazing. The thin crust pizza was fresh and delicious. Crust nice and crispy. Service super friendly and professional. Restaurant very clean. Family and kid friendly. Super highly recommended!

Ordered chicken parmigiana and it was so bland; no salt, no flavor, worst than jar sauce. For $22 they used chicken tenders covered in cheese. The tenders were chewy. I couldn’t even eat a portion of the meal. The utensils they provided were dirty (see picture below). When I walked in to pick up my food, the guy at the front was making food and chewing at the same time. No gloves. I would not recommend getting anything other than pizza.

Google
Some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. We had two calzones and shared a slice of the cheesesteak pizza - which was also fantastic. The calzones were fresh and tasted homemade, the people were so accommodating and friendly. I wish Bella Italia nothing but the best, I will be coming again the next time I’m in Philly.

Bella Italia Pizza in Ardmore is a disgrace to the Italian cuisine. I recently ordered a pizza from them. It turns out that they deliver through DoorDash. This was never disclosed to me and when my pizza arrived, it arrived as a heaping, messy pile of pizza. The cheese was all over the place, and the toppings were sliding off the crust. It was like they had just thrown it in a box and sent it on its way. When I tried to explain the problem to the driver, he literally ran from my house and took off in his car. When I called Bella Italia Pizza, they said that it was not their problem and that I needed to contact Door Dash. So, I was forced to jump through all sorts of hoops to get a refund. In the meantime, I didn’t have a pizza, or anything to feed my kids. And Bella Italia, could not make it right because they don’t do their own delivery and couldn’t deliver new pizzas. Check out my posted photos of my delivered pizzas. I was so disappointed, because I had heard good things about Bella Italia Pizza in the past. But this experience has completely changed my mind. I will never order from them again. I would advise anyone else considering ordering from Bella Italia Pizza to think twice. There are many other great pizza places in Ardmore that will actually deliver a pizza that looks and tastes good.

Because I’m allergic to cheese, I ordered a tomato pie slice that he told me over the phone that he has. However, after I paid and received my food, I left and opened it up to realize all he did was pull the cheese off a cheese pizza instead of making the one I requested from scratch.. there were tons of cheese residue all over my slices. I get that my order request may have been unique — but at least just straight up tell me that you don’t have/make those.. instead of almost giving me an allergic reaction to a makeshift pizza. Side note, please don’t grab my pizza with your bare hands that you’ve touched everything else with. It’s just the little things..

Delicious pizza, super fast. We ordered a pie and walked out with it within seven minutes. This was fully appreciated because we were famished and needed to get home to eat. Bella Italia offers more than just pizza with calzones, sandwiches, cheesesteaks, salads, and Stromboli on the menu.

Yelp
Balle Italia keeps making my tummy happy! This is the best Sicilian pizza hands down! Te sauce is delicious and great quality cheese. The crust is so light and airy. Don't wast your time and money with subpar pizza- love this place

Yelp
Neighborhood fave for decades...thin sliced pizza - large single slices. Lots of large comfy booths. Friendly vibe.

Yelp
Bella Italia is one of those places that has been around...forever. The building is a classic 1950s, at one time it was right next to a trolley line, and there's still a bus stop next to it. Over the years the quality of the food was up and down. It was great. Then hood. Then okay. Then ... you get the idea. W It fell out of our rotation during this time. Then, one day, the NMA comes home with a pizza. It's ... excellent. Very old school, a classic pizza with thin crust, foldable slices, quality cheese. Yummy. They offer Sicilian style as well, square on thick bread, tomato pie and "specialty" pizzas like bbq. I'm quite happy that Bella is back, and look forward to more of their classic pizza.

Yelp
Over and over again I and my close mainliner friends frequent Bella Italia as our pizza restaurant of choice ! Bella never disappoints with a tasteful menu including a wide selection of crafted beer . We have always experience friendly service additionally they are on top of cleanliness i.e. , tables are always wiped down down and floors are swept throughout the day. Anyone that thinks anything different of Bella must not get out much there's always one in a crowd.

Yelp
If the two dirty beevus and butthead teenagers are cooking, turn around and leave. They suck, don't care, and it's priced on the higher end. If the adults are cooking it's decent.

Meredith R.

Yelp
I don't often crave pizza, but when I do I hope it brings me back to what I grew up with in Brooklyn. This isn't quite it. The white pizza was dry and tasteless. Pepperoni, was better. Slices are big, crust thinner than my preference and not as cheesy as I'd like. My opinion is clearly not shared, as plenty of people came in during lunchtime. And I'm glad, as the owners seem very nice and have great rapport with their customers.

Eric G.

Yelp
Bella Italia is probably in my top 10 of best pizzas in the entire Philly area. They are a bit pricey but the quality matches the price. Everyone there is polite and friendly. The place kinda takes you back to an old school pizza shop. It's kinda refreshing considering how generic many pizza shops are starting to look. I highly recommend you give them a shot if you're in Ardmore.

Yelp
OK, I was introduced to Bella Italia by my partner, who first went here in the late 80s when she was in college. I've eaten pizza all over, NYC, Boston, New Haven, RI, Chicago, and many places where they didn't really know how to make pizza. Bella Italia's pizza is amazing - some of the best pizza I've had. I've been eating here at least a couple times per year (and more recently) for over a decade, and they're consistently great. Talk about basics, their cheese pie has a thin, delicious, chewy crust, flavorful tomato sauce, and quality cheese. Seriously, I could eat their huge cheese slices all day. Add some toppings and it only gets better. Their Sicilian slices are great too - thick with plenty of sauce. And man, their cheese fries are PERFECT. I know there are as many opinions out there about cheese fries as there are Philadelphians, but Bella's are just the right amount of crispy and made with plenty of provolone. YUM. More recently I've tried their cheesesteaks a few times, and while I'm no expert, I thought, "This is a good cheesesteak!" (Then I tried cheesesteaks at a few other places around Philly, and so far I like Bella's better!) But do yourself a favor and try their pizza. Bella's is the best!

Yelp
Best NY style pizza we've found in the area so far. Easy online ordering, easy pickup (they have a few parking spots off Lancaster specifically designated for carry out parking that are super easy to pull into), and most importantly, great pizza! Thin, crispy crust, and just the right amount of sauce and cheese. It's great, give them a try.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
First time customer -- Ordered two chicken parm meals for carry out at $22 each. It was 80% spaghetti and 20% chicken - and the chicken was overcooked. Salad is a waste. Pretty frustrating when restaurants over charge for Chx Parm and load it with spaghetti. One and done.

Tyra H.

Yelp
DO NOT waist your time or money on this sub standard pizza shop! This business treats new customers with disdain and they are rude, ignorant, condescending and lack common decency. When businesses in the community believe they can treat customers poorly based on current sales it is only a matter of time when you will fall from grace! The department of health definitely needs to visit this place!

Ed F.

Yelp
I want to like this place so much. Old school vibe, pretty clean attractive looking pizza. Then you get a slice, meh. Yes, it's crispy but the flavor is Meh. Ordinary sauce and below ordinary cheeses quickly drag this down to average. Then there's the price, $6, for a mushroom slice with Waffle House canned mushrooms. They have the potential to be a 8 plus rated slice but barely breaks a six. Like my teachers used to say in kindergarten, you can do better, I know you can.

Alisa G.

Yelp
I'm learning this is a great place for pizza. I was in the area and ordered a baked ziti dinner to go. I arrived to learn they're now charging $16 for a small portion. Most pizza places provide a much larger container for a lower price. The meal was ok. Kind of bland, a little cold but I ate the whole thing!

Susan B.

Yelp
The pizza is the best but the lady owner is so rude and has an awful attitude. She is not friendly at all, is awful over the phone especially. Great pizza though.

Paul M.

Yelp
Overpriced - $24.00 for cheese steak and mozzarella sticks - on a pick up order - and then there's that tip screen! I bought 2 orders of wings from there about a year ago....I think it was $50.00 for 20 wings? I know inflation is high, but their prices are ridiculous!

Carissa L.

Yelp
I ordered linguine with sauce, which came with salad and bread and butter. The salad was pretty standard and the bread and butter was just a small piece, but I liked that the bread was nice and soft. The entree was...fine, but the portion was very small compared to other restaurants with the same price point. Overall, I don't think the amount of food I received was worth all the delivery and related fees, but it wasn't bad.

Lydia B.

Yelp
Buzy buzzing pizza joint that has consistently put out a great slice. There is a board walk NJ pizza vibe (in a good way). We each had a slice and shared cheesesteak. Both perfect! We loved drinking "tall boys" out of the case and loved the vibe. It is so refreshing to have a place like this stay close to their roots. I can't wait to go back. (Have been comming here for over 30yrs when I worked in the area)

Adam S.

Yelp
A great spot for a New York style slice when in the area. I've eaten at Bella countless times over the years and have always been a fan of their New York style slices. For some reason the large, medium, or smaller sizes taste different and are simply not as good, but the in-store slices or extra large pies (20") are very tasty. Bottom line, if you want New York style pizza and are near Ardmore, head to Bella and get a slice or extra large pie.

Yelp
Best Brooklyn slice on the Main Lone! Been going here forever and the staff is friendly and the food is always consistently good.

Brian C.

Yelp
This family owned pizza shop has been a staple in the area for as long as I can remember! Good pizza runs in the blood! Maria runs this store, her brother Vinnie has another pizza shop (Vinnie's pizza) in Wayne. They both have great food! You order at the counter then have a seat and they will call out your name when your order is ready. It can get a little crowded around the counter area at time, I generally get a set in the back. I goto Bella Italia almost every time I'm at the Ardmore Music Hall. I head over between sets and grab a slice or a sandwich and a seat before heading back to AMH. I only wish they stayed open later so I could get something after the show! I've had various slices, cheesesteaks, and burgers here, all good! I need to sample the stromboli here, Vinnie made one of my favorites on the mainline! They also sell 6 packs if you want to grab some beer to go. They have a few dedicated "pickup" parking spots right outside and the metered parking lot (free after 6) has the 10 minutes free parking if you need to run in and grab something. Check it out and tell Maria hello!

Albert H.

Yelp
Food is delicious and they always treat people like they are part of their family. Food is always delicious and very very he proud portions.

Pamela M.

Yelp
My sub was burnt! Never send food that way! Pizza was good! Never had any problems before! Yes I would order again! Third party had nothing to do with burnt food!

Takiema S.

Yelp
Ride pass this place 1000x and decided to check them out. Hands down our new date night pizza joint. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I felt like I have been going there for years. Not to mention you can have a ice cold beer while enjoying their New York style pizza. Picture does it no justice. Slices are huge and buffalo wings are awesome.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Our second visit for a delicious meal. Terrific pizza and chicken parmigiana. The service is attentive and cheerful. Ambiance is relaxed for a family meal.

Jane M.

Yelp
Overpriced for alright Chicken Parmigiana sandwich. Fountain drink refills are not free. Most likely will not return. Too pricey for food quality that the Wawa down the street can match.

Brian C.

Yelp
My daughters and I have gotten takeout food here three times in the last month. The service has been so friendly and positive and that is the main reason for this review, but also the food. With COVID-19, they have a takeout window where the ordering is done, and about five tables and booths out on a sidewalk that is in a parking lot that they share with other businesses including the Tired Hands Fermentaria, so not on busy Lancaster Ave. My daughters are hooked on "BLT hoagies" which aren't really a thing, but most places will make it for you if they have bacon. Usually the problem is that the bacon you get is at least a day old and has been going in an out of a refrigerator during that time. Not here. Here it is fresh and bright. It looks like it was cooked within the hour or perhaps even to order; it's still juicy, tender and tasty. Really good! But my favorite part might be the service. Last night, after my BLT hoagie, I returned to the window to order fries because my daughters weren't even halfway done their BLT hoagies when I was. There was an order taker at the window that was very pleasant, but my favorite part was the head guy (cook, manager, both?) in the cooking area who saw me at the window, 20 feet away, and asked loudly, "How are the hoagies??". I just love that kind of TLC. Oh, and those fries were fresh out of the fryer, crispy and hot, perfectly salted. For a place that has been around such a long time, to offer this level of care, not to mention fresh food, is the sort of thing that brings me here to write a review. I am not a serial yelper, but these guys deserve some praise. Thank you!

Courtney L.

Yelp
I have been going to Bella Italia for almost 3 years now! I found out about this gem and was hooked ever since! Being from New Jersey and being used to grade A pizza, I was disappointed by the lack of good pizza in the West Philly, Manayunk, Ardmore area. I decided to explore different local pizzeria's to find a good spot to satisfy my need for good quality pizza. After trying Bella Italia for the first time, I was in love! The pizza is great! The crust is thin, sauce is delicious, perfect amount of cheese. I have tried a few things on their menu other than just the plain slice. I have had a white slice here which is delicious and difficult to pull off; Bella Italia did it perfectly! I have also tried the meatball parmesan hero, the french fries and mozzarella sticks. All were delicious and I would have again! The only downside of this spot is that the pizza is a bit oily but the napkin trick will fix this issue! Other than that Bella Italia is the perfect spot to get a pie to go from, grab a slice, grab a sandwich ect! The staff is very friendly; owned by a sweet husband and wife straight from Sicily! Which is probably why their pizza is so good! If you are in Ardmore and want good quality pizza; try Bella Italia!

Caitlin C.

Yelp
I'm ashamed I lived in Wynnewood for so long before trying this place. Sometimes you're not looking for some artisan flatbread. Sometimes you just need 1 good classic pepperoni slice, a cheesesteak, or a chicken parm sandwich. This place will satisfy the craving!

Cheryl S.

Yelp
The pizza was actually one of the best places I've eaten pizza in the Philadelphia area. It was my first time there two days ago. I love a New York pizza. I love the thin crust, the cheese tasted real and the sauce tasted very good. I would go there again! I usually can't eat more than two slices, however I ate 4 slices throughout the day. And the rest the next day. The Medium size was a lot. I haven't tried their cheesesteaks but that's next on my list. The man that waited on me was nice. I wish I could show the pizza but I was too hungry smelling it all the way home. The place seem ok a bit old fashioned but seemed clean and large enough to accommodate a nice little crowd!

Vanessa B.

Yelp
If you want a delicious simple slice (not brick oven but a good slice of old-fashioned pizza that's not oily), with lovely servers, Bella Italia is your friend.

Antonina E.

Yelp
Quick take out order. Chicken cheesesteak with the works. The works include mushrooms, sweet peppers, hot peppers, and I thought jalapeños but I didn't notice any really. Despite such, it was delicious! A good ratio of cheese. Plenty filling, but I'm not a big hoagie bread person and would've preferred a hard roll. It's $10.50 for the sub. $8.75 I believe without the extra goodies. Wouldn't get it all the time but it was still delicious. And worker taking my payment was very friendly. Always appreciated :) I did not try the pizza or fries. But I'm picky in both of those categories.

Cindy P.

Yelp
Bella Italia USED to be great. Now I wont go back. Actually threw out all the leftover pizza. Quality has gone down. Cheap ingredients. WONT GO BACK. Guy who "greets you" is downright rude.

Armen B.

Yelp
Ive been coming here for years. its always been overpriced, but the food has always been good. went back to bella this week and got a pepperoni stromboli. I honestly don't know how bella serves this with a straight face because its nothing more than a loaf of bread with about 4 total pieces of the absolute lowest quality pepperoni. Next time ill just stick with ardmore pizza.

Matt S.

Yelp
Just your average pizzeria with a decent slice. Two times ago my pizza was burned a bit more than I prefer and last time the crust seemed thinner... My co-worker swore that this was the best pizza around. It was always good pizza, or A-ok, but I never understood why he loved it. Once he found out that Acme sold a cheaper slice, he stopped going to Bella Italia... I learned I work with horrible people that day... I might be coming here a lot more though... I can trick co-workers into ordering a pizza at this place and then walking to Delice et chocolat while we wait. We always get pizza here though, I think I might try something else next time. Maybe a Stromboli? We'll see how that goes.

Jules B.

Yelp
$27 for an xl plain pizza! Really? 27 bucks for an 18 inch pizza? The crust was great, but $3.37 per slice for zero toppings?

Rick R.

Yelp
Went back after quite a few months Phone order for 2 hoagies order fries Asked them to repeat and confirm They still screwed it up and where's the beef Disgusted

Butch L.

Yelp
I've been coming here for decades now. Vito & Maria started a great little shop with their kids and friends carrying on. The pizza and steak sandwiches are close to my favorite anywhere -- my go-to is a cheese steak with mushrooms and extra cheese. Several years ago they diversified their pizza toppings. I've ordered calzones, stuffed shells, pasta with sauce, and even tuna salad / antipasto here and they're all good.

Ken C.

Yelp
Bella is, hands down, the best New York style pizza you'll find on the mainline. The thin and crisp crust folds nicely to hold the stringy cheese, tangy sauce, and whatever other toppings you like.

Katina D.

Yelp
This place is my hubbie and my go-to pizza spot while we were in college at SJU. I came back to the area a few months ago, and decided to stop back. They serve thin crust NY style pizza, which is my favorite. Dough and ingredients are good quality. I ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza. Pizza was $18 for a med 2 topping. It was good but I would have like more cheese and toppings, esp for the price. Service is typical for a casual pizza joint. Would go back if in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Always consistent, so far one of my favorite pizza places around me. Thin crust pizza with a nice chew... reminds me of my brooklyn Pizza that I miss so much. This is my go to pizza for pizza nights.

Tom S.

Yelp
I walked in today at 10:10 to grab something because for lunch at that time options are either pizza or Wawa do I figured I'd try Bella since it was in such a bougie area ..... I walked in and there was a man who didn't speak English ... I asked if they had any slices yet because there was nothing in the window ..... He walked into walk in cooler and walked back out with a trash bag he was holding with 2 hands .... He proceeded to start pulling out leftover sliced pizzas all stacked on top of each other .... Aprox 5-10 different trays .... I said what are those from yesterday .... he said " Yes yesterday " .... I said no thanks and walked out as he proceeded to put each tray in the slice window .... I don't mind leftover pizza at home but not from a pizza shop in a high end area .... I wouldn't expect this in the hood .... ended up eating Wawa ‍ .... will never go there again

Cindy L.

Yelp
Got two slices of cheese pizza and one slice of pepperoni pizza. No complaints other than a little bit too greasy on the pepperoni pizza, but thats quite common. They were new york style and very tasty with some dry chili flakes added. Service was prompt. Definitely would come back again!

Jasmine F.

Yelp
A little on the expensive side, but seriously some of the best pizza in town. The cheese:bread ratio is fantastic. The meat wasn't falling off of the pizza, which I appreciated. I haven't had a slice that I haven't liked. Seriously, this place is worth it!

Wesley H.

Yelp
We ordered two large cheese pizzas and two of orders of chicken fingers. It was average quality pizza and subpar chicken fingers. It was not the best and it was not the worst. I have better options in the area so I highly doubt that I will order from here in the future.

Maureen H.

Yelp
I ordered from their website (which is DoorDash but it's disguised). I ordered for pick up at 5:20. Got a text that order was ready at 4:55. Call restaurant, said they would take care of it. Picked up order at 5:20. Got home a few minutes later and pizza was room temp and salads were warm and mushy from the chicken. 2 salads, a pizza, and 2 meatballs for $67. What a disappointment. I've gotten pizza from here before and it was fine. But this will be the last time.

Keisha F.

Yelp
I have few issues with this place: 1. The customer service....the man (who I'm assuming may even be a manager or owner) handled money and grabbing my food with bare hands *very unsanitary Also after paying my food he left my change on the counter....and turned his back to finish doing what he was doing. No "thank you" "have a nice day" 2. The pizza Food quality was just not that impressive, wasn't bad but was not very good * will definitely not be returning

Rachel K.

Yelp
This place is literally a 60-second walk away from my apartment so I was interested in trying a quick meal there. When I called to order takeout (Chicken Cheesesteak), a very "Italian" lady answered the phone, took my order as quickly as possible, and hung up. By the time I got there a few minutes later, my order was already by the cash register. The woman I spoke to on the phone was much more friendly in person. She began speaking to me very excitedly in Italian, probably noting my tan skin and curly hair. I had to let her know I am not Italian, but actually half Puerto Rican, which seemed to make her equally excited and we began chatting in Spanish instead. She ended up calling her whole family over and they jabbered in Italian about how pretty I am. I walked out the door laughing, with warm smiles and waves. My cheesesteak was very large for the cheap price. The chicken was a little dry but the sandwich was flavored very well. I was excited to see they sell Jarritos (delicious brand of Mexican soda), as well as averagely priced six-packs. Not the most amazing meal I've ever had but it was such a cozy and heartwarming experience that I'll happily give this family my business again. I will report back once I have tried the pizza, for sure!

Nando F.

Yelp
At one point in time Bella Italia was the better option to go with when you were looking for pizza. Times have changed and looks like the quality has changed from what I had remembered. I don't get it why change something that was selling, where others couldn't match up. I was in here a few times recently and I haven't seen the big guy making pies, or his wife greeting you when you come in. Prices before have changed, and now they are asking for an astronomical amount for a slice. Maybe I haven't gotten a slice in a while, but $3.50 for a slice of sausage, or mushroom ? Really , I mean really that is a little absurd , and to think this isn't a gourmet slice, it is one of the usual suspects' when it comes to the toppings in the world of pizza. Another item that they topped in was their Chicken Parmigiana sandwich, this was one of my "go to orders" when I would come here religiously. This , or something has altered my one time "go to sandwich". Now I hate to say it its just burnt sauce with a freezer burned chicken finger. Throughout their existence they have remodeled a bit, opening it up a little more to seat the people. They also have improved their menu to go with the times, but again the quality has diminished . The only thing saving this from becoming a 2 star review is they serve beer while you eat.
