Where to Grab Pizza by the Slice in and Around Portland

"Pizza places have come and gone along Alberta, but Bella (formerly “Bella Faccia”) has been holding it down in the popular neighborhood for 20 years. Brooklyn-raised Linda Zumoff describes her pizza as “Naples meets New York,” and the large slices feature air-pocketed crust, nicely proportioned cheese, and small touches like a dusting of parmesan over the wide pepperoni. Half a dozen slice options typically include at least one vegan special." - Nathan Williams

Where to Find Cheesy, Satisfying Pepperoni Pizza in Portland

"Northeast Alberta favorite Bella may have changed owners in 2019, but it’s commitment to crispy crust, generous slices, and a relaxed inviting environment remain unchanged. Bella features not one but three pepperoni options: Roseli for the wider, flat pepperoni; Ezzo for the small cups; and Field Roast for the spicy vegan pepperoni. Bella typically offers a half-dozen different slices over the counter, along with daily specials and other deals via the restaurant’s text subscription." - Nathan Williams

Excellent pizza and garlic knots! Pizza is great; we got a personal build pie with red sauce, Italian sausage, spinach, carmalized onion, and balsamic. Crust was crisp, but not too crunchy, sauce was rich, but not too sweet. Sausage was real, and not something you buy from a tube at the grocery store. Tasty and well prepared. Garlic knots are some of the best we've had, but also clocked in at a lower price than most. $5 for half-dozen, they are some of the best value for a pizza shop. Would love to come again!

04/19/17: 4.5 out of 5 - First time trying Bella Pizza. Came in for the Portland Mercury Pizza Week. This is a good neighborhood pizza/bar place to go to. It's not too big so it can get a bit loud to have a conversation. Regardless, you go there for the pizza, right? Pizza by the slices here are good sizes, and tasty. The pizza crust, in my humble opinion, is actually very good. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. There's good beers to go with the pizza selection. Also, there are good choices if you happen to be a vegetarian. The staff are attentive and provides fast service. Like I always say, if you're in the area, try the place once, and decide for yourself. I will be coming back to try some of the other options. Enjoy!

Best Pizza Pie in the NE, we eat here all the time, from whole pizza to slices. It was used to be Bella Facia, now called Bella Pizza. Lots of good vegetarian, meat, and gluten-free options. Calzones, salads, and garlic knots are also options. Show up for trivia night and get a beer or glass of wine or a drink. Lots of choices, get you growler if need be.

I came here with a friend who is a regular at this place, and we received the most excellent service. They have a lot of special pizza recipes from which to choose, but even more impressive is the options they have ready-made at a low price. They change up the lunch menu with a couple of different specials, and I absolutely loved what they had when I visited. I would definitely come back for more, it's such a good price and tastes fantastic! Awesome people here too, you can tell they love what they do!

Bella was, for me, the right place at the right time. We were on our way to a show at the Alberta Rose Theater in the next block, and were looking for something that would be quick enough to get to the show with enough lead time to snag good seats. Bella delivered - we split their large green salad and a calzone. The salad was great, with greens that were a substantial step up from iceberg, plenty of dressing, and a nice mix of onions and chickpeas (we asked them to hold the peppers). It was the calzone, however, that I found to be the standout. A lot of places, if they have calzones at all, tend to have them premade, usually with at least one ingredient that I don't like. Bella, however, makes them to order, with your choice of three toppings. Yay! Our choice of pork sausage, mushroom, and caramelized onion (thank you to the lady at the counter that offered onion options when we ordered) came with the perfect amount of melty cheese to make me happy. It sometimes seems that only me and Ben, from Parks and Rec, are fans of the calzone. But, if you're part of the tribe as well, I highly recommend a visit to Bella.

Google
A good place to grab a quick slice of pizza or a whole pie. I tried a more unique slice they had this time- a mustard base pizza, it was actually pretty good. The staff here was nice and helpful.

Driving down Alberta and being hungry I stumbled across Bella Pizza and decided to stop in for lunch. I had the lunch special, slice of pizza and a side salad and both were very good. I will be back.

Bella Pizza is great. Their pizza is absolutely delicious; the best I've had in a long while. The employees are extremely friendly and keep the place real. Their atmosphere fits their establishment so well: a small local pizza place that puts heart into their work. When bored, there's a TV that sometimes plays television. In short. If I'm feeling down, I can count for the quality food and customer service to lift my spirits.

Yelp
Assembly is the Portland home for Detroit-style pizza. The owner grew up on Detroit pizza. Later he learned how to home brew beer. Then he got his Phd in Detroit Pizza studying with the late Shawn Randazzo. They have slices and pies, some sides and salads, 6 taps for now, and a small full bar. They had most of their menu items as slices. I had the vegan which looked a little lighter than the other selections, plus a fine Caesar salad with both grated and shaved parmesan and a slice of lemon on the side. They have gluten-free crust available. I have to give a shout out for the shakers for parmesan and red pepper flakes. Most spots have lids with small holes. They are like a carnival game or a claw machine. You think you are going to get something out of them, but it is a trick, you can never win. Assembly has found some lids (pictured) with ample slots Thank you! The founder has been a part of the creative community in Portland for a long time. The Foster location has a large mural, at this Alberta location, that artist has work up now, and will curate other artists into the space. It was nice to see hand-made lighting fixtures by Lam Quảng - HiiH. Lam makes his own paper from pulp and fashions it into free-form colorful shapes. His live-work space was across the street from the now Assembly in one of early, then cheap rent, Alberta artist studios. This location is a little smaller than the Foster location. I did see a high chair and there were families there opening night. There are 4 counter seats, 5 four-person-ish tables and 6 two person-ish tables. There is also an outside seating area in back and picnic tables along the street. It can be busy and it will be a great stop attending an event at the Alberta Theater. When you need a slice or need a pie, and you are hungry for Detroit-style, this is one of the few spots for that in Portland.

Yelp
Portions are way too small for the high prices. Ordered a whole pie and still left hungry...... Flavor wasn't great. We'll miss you Bella :(

Yelp
We came to Assembly because we wanted to try deep dish in Portland. We found the place on Instagram and the food looked good and it was a nice large spot with its own parking lot. There was a lovely mural inside and the place had homey bar feels, it let us just chill there for a little bit. Not sure what the other reviews that are low are about but our pizza was beautiful and tasted absolutely amazing. The server was a great dude knew his beer selection and when we asked for a stout he was u sure about he went back to try it to make sure he could trust his recommendation. Just an overall positive experience. I got the best Moscow mule with a local vodka that I was not expecting for a brewery. Gather some friends and go on a night out to enjoy reasonably priced drinks and not overly complicated food tasting food. The picture gives credit that we couldn't stop eating.

Yelp
I wish I understood why you're charging $5 a slice for pizza that has a SINGLE PIECE of pepperoni on it. I really miss Bella ... sigh.

Yelp
My partner and I frequent the Foster location of Assembly Brewing, so we were eager to try out this new spot. However, our experience was disappointing. The prices were excessively high for the quality offered. If you're shelling out good money, the food should be top-notch, like homemade. Unfortunately, our pizza was lacking in toppings and the dough was gooey. Overall, a letdown in terms of taste and value

Yelp
I've been in twice now, and both times the pizza was delicious! Crispy crust, chewy cheese around the edges, and super yummy and tangy sauce on top. The service was good, and the atmosphere is just okay. It's family friendly which is great. It's also a bit noisy from the fans.

Yelp
This was an excellent deep dish pizza! I can't speak for the other negative reviews but Bella is gone and has no relevance here. The pizza had a nice crispy crust and was not too dense or doughy which can sometimes happen with deep dish. I would definitely go back. Great staff and service as well. Highly recommend

Yelp
Another deep dish pizza place on alberta. That ls now four deep dish spots within 15 blocks. At least these are MINI deep dish slices though. Gross AND costly, yayyyy. RIP Bella

Yelp
It's disheartening that my favorite pizza spot Bella Faccia closed and this is now in its place. Not a fan. The slices are SO small for $5.50+. Super gooey cheese and minimal toppings. The place was packed, but it still shouldn't have taken as long as it did. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

Yelp
The people were nice enough and the food came out quickly, which was nice for all the families. The Caesar was good as well, but the pizza was way undercooked, which was a bummer. I'm gonna stick with Pop Pizza, but check out Assembly for yourself.

Yelp
we wanted to try assembly vrewing pizza annex, after bella pizza, sad, closed after 20 plus yrs...the setup is similar to before...the original artwork is outstanding, and the music playing was excellent...we shared a kolsch, a greek salad, and a slice of cheese and a slice of veggie....the beer/pizza/salad were great....the detroit style pizza was real nice and hot, and so delicious....the staff is very friendly and quick....we didn't check out the front and back eating areas as it was a cold day....we read the story of the owner on the website and loved it......next time we will check the outside areas out...thx so much....
