Fresh seafood, including lobster rolls & chowder, with views
"Just over the Winthrop bridge, stop by for their giant lobster rolls and fresh fried seafood. Be warned, they're cash only. While you're there , enjoy the views of Belle Isle and the harbor." - Nick DiStefano
"The views at Belle Isle, which is just a few minutes outside of Boston, are matched only by the size of their overstuffed (and best-in-class) lobster rolls. You can choose a classic lobster meat roll or upgrade to an all-tail roll for a few bucks more. The latter, even though it’s over $40, is beyond worth it for how much meat you get. Each is served with your choice of french fries, onion rings, coleslaw, or rice pilaf. This old-school joint also keeps their lobsters in the tank, which means they’re fresh from the ocean (and also watching you eat their friends, you monster). Remember to bring cash, because they don’t take cards, and even though there’s an ATM, it doesn’t always work." - carlo mantuano, anne cruz, team infatuation
"What’s major about Belle Isle is that it gives Bostonians access to classic New England seafood shack food without sitting on Rte. 1 for hours on end. When you get to the Winthrop location, you’ll be greeted by a big plastic shark hanging from the ceiling, a retail counter selling fresh cod filets and oysters, and harborside views. Belle Isle has one of the best lobster rolls in Boston and plates upon plates of lightly fried or grilled seafood. We’re partial to the clams with bellies, and if onion rings are your thing, we can’t endorse these enough." - dan secatore, tanya edwards
"Yes, we know Belle Isle Seafood isn’t technically in East Boston. But if a short bridge is enough to keep you away from some of the best fried clams, lobster pie, and chowder this city has to offer, we feel sorry for you. This bare-bones restaurant and fish market is basically a New England candy store, and in the summer, when you can sit outside and smell the jet fuel-laced air, it’s the place you’ll want to be." - joel ang
"Belle Isle is only about one football field away from the city border, and yet it feels like it’s a world apart (well, except for the planes taking off and landing so close to you that you might be able to read the in-flight magazine in someone’s seatback). This classic New England seafood shack makes one of Boston’s biggest and best lobster rolls to go with some outstanding fried shellfish, and you can eat it all on picnic tables that overlook what looks like the North Shore harbor." - joel ang, dan secatore
