Why is the Chicken at Austin Restaurant Pecan Square Cafe So Expensive? | Eater Austin

"Identified as a former poultry supplier to the restaurant in question, their retail whole chicken was cited at about $28, positioning it as a higher-end but still far less expensive source than the restaurant’s plated price." - Erin Russell

I’ve know Aubrey, Perrine, and their 2 kids since I moved to ATX almost a decade ago. Their pork chops rival Perry’s (if you know, you know). Their bacon is required for BLT’s. And when it’s cold, their soup is like a warm hug from Grandma. I’ve been to their farm and watched their happy-go-lucky pigs splash in the mud, their ducks round coops as if they were a swarm of bees, and small little kiddos run and play joyfully among their farm friends. Knowing them, enjoying their love of culinary, and eating copious amounts of farmer’s pate has brought such joy to my Sundays! Highly recommend.

We’ve been buying from Belle Vie since October 2024…But we should have began buying from them a long time ago. Honestly, we didn’t know what we were missing out on, folks. Food in our house changed for the better when we began buying their organic meats. For example, now our weekly roasted chicken requires only some salt and pepper — that’s how GOOD the chicken is itself (alone). No need for butter, herbs, etc. because the flavor of the meat shines through alone. The duck is phenomenal; we have this for special occasions and we’ve never been disappointed. Their long list of goodness includes their pork cuts (like their porterhouse or ribs). The fat is not chewy; it’s caramelized, thoughtfully raised and processed. We are so spoiled to have them locally in Austin. Their passion, precision, and genuine care go far beyond many vendors in the Austin area. Thank you so much.

I just ate you Duck Terrine with pistachios & pecans. My palate thanks you for the unbelievable quality of your food. I had your superior bacon in my homemade Tacos. Again, I'm left with such appreciation for your culinary talent. ♥️🙏🏿

Their product looked lovely. However, I was treated so rudely at the Farmer’s Market that I won’t be able to support them.
