At one time there were two upscale cooking supplies stores, Cooks and Sur la Table, in the 50th and France area of Edina. Also there was one, Kitchen Windows, in Uptown. Cooks also has a store in St Paul. The Edina and Uptown stores were all close to where I live. The St Paul store is a bit of a drive for me. Sur la Table was a national chain and was able to under cut the prices of Cooks in Edina driving them out of business. Then Sur la Table itself significantly downsized and eliminated its Edina store. Finally due to a variety of reasons Kitchen Windows closed its doors. So where there once were three there were now none. Since I am an enthusiastic home cook who loves cooking gear, this was a severe blow. Now however Cooks in partnership with Bellecour has opened a cooking supply store/bakery and sandwich shop at 50 th and France. I visited recently and am very happy to have them nearby. They have a nice selection of upscale cooking products and although I didn't get anything to eat, l shall return. Every thing looked delicious even if a bit spendy. They also offer cooking lessons which look interesting. I am very happy to see them in my neighborhood. There is free municipal parking nearby. I suggest using the lot on the north side of Market Street. The stalls in the lot on the South side are so narrow that I, not a particularly large person by today's standards, could not open my car door wide enough to get out. The North side stalls are normal size.
