Campaign FEC Filings Reveal How Much Democratic Candidates Are Spending on Food | Eater

"An iconic Vermont ice cream brand invoked as a typical campaign treat in commentary about feeding voters and staff; the reference was used rhetorically to suggest that handing out locally famous ice cream alone is not enough to win votes, even for a candidate from that state." - Gary He

This is such a nice B&J store in Church Street Marketplace. It has a small iconic B&J van to sit and dine. There’s also plenty of cute chairs and tables in the front side of the store. They also have some wonderful merchandise at the store like B&J ice cream scoops, bamboo spoons, t-shirts, water bottles, hats and frisbees. At the counter they have soooo many flavors. They have the cups and cones. They also sell pints as well. There’s also sundae and shakes. They got non dairy products as well. There’s also a whole of toppings including sprinkles, gummy bears, m&m, oreos and walnuts. We got the chocolate flavor for kids cup. It came with two scoops. The price was comparable to any other B&J store I have been to. Ice cream was so delicious. It was milky and didn’t have the frozen texture. The associates were inattentive, but they did their job.

Google
Delicious ice cream in Burlington, home of the Ben & Jerry's :) The ice cream was so creamy and mouthwatering, making u to want more and more. U should also try the waffle cone, really fresh and crunchy. The cone and the ice cream made a perfect blend. I ordered the small scoop (got 2 flavors which were New York Super Fudge Chunk and Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz) and cone waffle for $9.20. It was worth it. The shop was clean, and I really loved the decoration and the minivan inside the store. The staffs were kind and friendly. There were restrooms and water tap. Cozy place to hang out and enjoy the dairy product at its finest.

Google
This location is always very busy. However, the staff goes out of their way so you don’t have to wait very long! Everyone is so kind and helpful. The ice cream is always delicious and made to perfection.

Google
I was informed that this was the birth place of Ben and Jerry's Ice cream so I HAD to enjoy some since in the area!

Google
So fun!!! Cool seating, its a must-see. Ice cream tasted great.

Google
So many options on ice cream flavors! Friendly staff. Nice area to sit down and eat your ice cream. Great location!

Google
Can't go wrong with Ben & Jerry's in the heart of Burlington, Vermont! It's just a classic combo! The ice cream is so good! So many flavors to choose from and combos of flavors, types of cones, etc. I personally get overwhelmed really easily in ordering lines (there's always a line here!) and I feel rushed when I get to the counter to order. It isn't clear who I'm supposed to order with - it feels scrambled and confusing. I see some little wooden taste-testers but no one is trying the flavors so I never ask to, either. Though that would be really nice! The pressure from the line behind me forbids me of asking questions and I end up quickly just picking something that feels right in my gut. It is never WRONG, of course, because Ben & Jerry's!😊

Google
The best milkshake I have ever had. The store was short on actual flavors... So the staff hand mixed multiple flavors to make my halfbaked shake. The fact they are proud to be leaders in social issues makes me proud to buy their products.

Yelp
How could I not?! Visiting and did not even realize the shop existing, but of course it does. Fun, family friendly environment that even had a bus the kids could play in. Service was swift and they were polite. Large groups get served by one employee which keeps the line moving. Tried marshmellows sky and chocolate therapy in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. Would definitely get again (actually did the next day). Wish these existed all over, flavors I did not know existed

Yelp
Not only is Ben & Jerry's ice cream good, but also they have non-dairy non-soy options! I'm so glad I was able to have a treat with my husband (who can eat dairy). I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to order but then realized that I've seen most of the flavors in the store before but one - one with caramel - Lights Caramel Action! Even happier to report I have found a place store in MI that does sell this flavor!

Yelp
Had a layover in Burlington and decided to come check out the downtown area. I'm a HUGE ice cream lover so I had to stop at Ben & Jerry's. Instead of ice cream I decided to go to a shake. Ordered a small chocolate therapy shake which, OMG so good!! The girl made a large by mistake but still gave it to me for the price of a small since that's what I ordered. A bit pricy. Cost almost $8 and that was the price for the small. But it is Ben & Jerry's and we all know name brands are way more expensive since you're paying for the name. It was just what I needed tho. So chocolatey and delicious......would definitely come back here and order another.

Yelp
Did the Ben and Jerry's factory tour. It was fun, especially tasting their newest creation. It was very quick. The place was pretty small, but it was cheap. Definitely a must do when in the area. Just don't expect it to take more than 20 minutes. Bought some ice cream to take home for my dog and he loved it!

Yelp
I don't know who needs to see a review about the phenomenal ice cream and waffle cones you'll get at Ben & Jerry's... But here it is, it's freaking amazing! Do you like ice cream? Do you need dairy free? Then say yes to all the flavors at Ben & Jerry's! Enjoy!!
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
The original. Always good. So many amazing flavors. Fast friendly service. Fun location.
google avatar

Yelp
The Ben and Jerry's factory was closed during the weekend we were visiting, so the next best thing is to walk along Burlington's pedestrian street and enjoy some of their icecream. Usually there is a long line up in front of the store, but Monday afternoon seems to be a good time to go and beat the crowds. I got a small waffle cone, which comes with two scoops of icecream of your choice. I chose the Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Strawberry Cheesecake. The chocolate fudge was very creamy with large chunks of thick brownie in almost every bite. The strawberry cheesecake was a good counterbalance, with bright tart flavors and tangy cheesecake. A fun summer treat!

Yelp
Delicious ice cream obviously! The workers are nice and when it's busy they can move that line! Super cute and touristy on the inside.

Yelp
The main B&J store in the middle of town in Burlington. Very similar to all their other locations aside from the mock van inside (which can be used as seating inside). No crowd on a Thursday night, giving us plenty of time to look over the selection. Surprisingly no special flavor for this branch (maybe only for the factory). Settled on a scoop of "Dirt Cake" on a waffle cone ($6ish) - always good flavor and the cone held the ice cream well. They do have treats for dogs as well and merchandise for the Vermont location. Service here is accommodating and friendly, while the location itself is central to all the shops in the area. Worth it just because the ice cream is great.

Yelp
Burlington, where Ben & Jerry's was born. Although this isn't the first location like the Starbucks location in Seattle, they make it very customer friendly with a seating area, some souvenirs for sale, and of course a very extensive ice cream menu. I got the Half Baked, which is the top selling flavor according to the Ben & Jerry's 2022 Top 10 list. The large, which they said is three scoops, costed $7.50. Worth the stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
What is not to LOVE? Well, maybe the extra notch on my belt. Amazing local location for out of this world ice cream. Tons of selections. Chose the peanut butter cup crunch, and was not disappointed. Creamy, peanut buttery, and just what the doctor ordered. Beautiful mural outside. Iconic Volkswagen bus on the inside. We will be back!

Yelp
This review is about a delicious NEW non-dairy flavor, "Colin Kaepernick's Change the Whirled." *Disclaimer: no spoons were harmed in this "research." Spoon 1: Made from sunflower milk, this caramel non-dairy dessert is rich in healthy fat, vitamins B & E, and easy to digest. We want to know how you made this non-dairy ingredient as "creamy" as it is? Spoon 2: Fudge chips are huge and we love chocolate. Period :) Spoon 3: Graham cracker swirls give this delicious treat a somewhat crunchy texture. Did you know that graham flour is named after an evangelical minister? Spoon 4: Chocolate Cookie swirls were generous throughout. Every scoop had chocolate cookies! As a Ben and Jerry's fan, we've had almost every flavor they sell. Top of our favorite list includes Cinnamon Buns, Cookie Dough, Coffee Toffee, Half Baked, and Urban Bourbon just to name a few :) The reason that we will continue buying this particular delicious flavor, is because Colin is donating all of his proceeds to Know Your Rights, a camp for Black and Brown youth. This effort aims to promote health, safety, love, courage, and education in our communities. So far, they've helped over 1400 youth in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Oakland, and even Amsterdam. #ThankYou Colin! Thank you Ben and Jerry's for all the delicious flavors since 1978. More specifically, for this delicious flavor with the double bonus of supporting communities where you stand in solidarity. God bless!

Yelp
Yum! Of course I had to visit the flagship Ben and Jerry's while visiting Burlington. If you're looking for the marker that commemorates the original location, that's a couple of blocks away. An easy enough walk though. I tried a scoop of their strawberry which was very good. No surprise. The store was smaller than I expected for a flagship store, but the decor is super cute. The VW Bus is a nice touch. Of course the people helping you are friendly as well. Don't know when I'll be back in Vermont, but I'd love to visit their factory at some point as well.

Yelp
This place is already just too good. The food here is amazing because it is the best food I ever tasted. I also like that there are a variety of ice cream flavours and ice cream cones. The service at this location is very amazing and good because the staff always help you and they are very friendly and nice. The cleaning at Ben & Jerry's is always good because they clean the floors and the tables and also they clean the bathrooms and they clean the bus which I will mention now. The bus is also good because it is a good tourist attraction to take pictures and videos at. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly encourage you to visit this location on your trip to Vermont.

Yelp
When we visited Vermont m, my daughter wanted to visit the graveyard. Because of Covid-19 it's close. We drove to Burlington and stopped over to get ice cream. With Covid, there is a line outside and you are following the dots on the floor, to make sure you keep distance from others. They do have few flavors you can't find in the supermarket but at the end of the day it's Ben& Jerry's ice cream. Ah important note- The bathrooms are closed.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great. They greet you as soon as you come in. My order was taken almost immediately and everything was made just how I requested!
google avatar

Yelp
Gotta go to the OG spot when you are in town. Great flavors, selection and decor. Still can't earn inside though!
google avatar

Sefali P.

Yelp
As the saying goes, "When in Rome." We were disappointed to learn the factory itself wasn't hosting tours at the time due to COVID-19, but couldn't leave VT without having Ben & Jerry's. Even on a cold winter evening, there's something comforting about ice cream, especially after a few drinks in your system. The staff were friendly and bathrooms clean. Limited seating due to the Pandemic but enough standing room to enjoy our dessert in the shop.

Yelp
Ben & Jerry's is and will always be a fan favorite! This was my first time in this location and I was impressed by the crowd, decor, flavor selections, and service. The line was long, but it kept on moving and before I knew it I was being helped. There were so many flavors to choose from and it really was a hard decision. I ordered the Salted Caramel Blondie and Sticky Toffee Cookie in a sugar cone and it was so delicious! It was devoured before I even got a picture. I will definitely be back and recommend this location to anyone traveling to Burlington and exploring Church Street. You will not be disappointed!

Mark S.

Yelp
4th July, looking forward to great atmosphere and American ice cream!! But.... they seem to be Missing everything. disappointing attitude and taste was off. Not celebrating patriotic holiday, distasteful food, and terrible attitude.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
I wish I saw this sign in the window before I ordered my ice cream. If I did see the sign I would have gotten my ice cream somewhere else! If you read this before you go there just remember there are other places to get your ice cream on church street.

Angela S.

Yelp
Stale waffle cone. Girl taking orders not overly friendly. One creemee and a small cup of soft serve was over $9.00. Hahaha!!!! What a joke!
google avatar

Chanthorn H.

Yelp
Ehhh, because of covid restrictions, there was no sampling of anything. This part was a bit disappointing as I really wanted to try a few items that normally isn't sold in stores. We came here because this is where Ben & Jerry's originated. Me, I do find this ice cream to be too sweet and never enough fillers/pieces in it's ice cream. I feel like out of the scoop or 2, I only get a few pieces of candy and I'm kind of on a hunt for more. When I went, they take your order outside, give you the piece of paper and let you in once the line decreases. I did like this as it never felt too crowded inside. Staff is friendly. Will I be back? Probably not. I did it to say I did it.

Yelp
***500th Review*** I realize B&J is a mega corporation these days, but this store is mere blocks away from where the original scoop shop opened back in 1978. Just one cool story from Burlington's eclectic history. :) Unfortunately, the building of the original store no longer stands, but there is a plaque on the sidewalk near where it once stood. This Ben and Jerry's is quite large. There was a bit of a line, but they moved us through quickly. This particular location had a fun vibe to it. I love the VW Bus that you can sit and eat in. Kids will enjoy this and it makes for a great photo op! There is a decent amount of seating in the store and a couple of tables outside. This shop also sells things like t-shirts and ice cream cakes. The ice cream is good, but pricey. You will save $ by buying a pint at the grocery store, but my favorite flavor can't be purchased at the grocery store. If you are here on vacation you may want to visit the Ben and Jerry's factory tour that is about a 30 minute drive from here. It's very reasonably priced and a good activity for all ages.
google avatar

Yelp
I am so lucky! I got to have Cherry Garcia ice cream at Ben & Jerry's AND I got to see Cherry Garcia Street, all in the same day. Go with the small cup if you are watching your calories-- it is still a lot of ice cream! Served with a smile and a wooden spoon, having ice cream at Ben & Jerry's in Burlington Vermont is well worth the visit.
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Came here for some non-dairy ice cream and tried the caramel almond brittle! Omg. Yum yum yum. Seriously it's hard to get this right but thank you B&J for crushing it. I love ice cream but have really bad sensitivity to dairy so this was the perfect way to end my night. The vegan ice cream was so tasty and still hit the spot for my sweet cravings. I also got a little taster of the peanut butter one but it was sub par. Definitely would go back for this stuff!

John D.

Yelp
such an unfortunate experience at Ben and Jerry's in Burlington, Vermont today. Kids were so excited to go. Ben and Jerry's doesn't allow paying customers to use their restrooms. Not out of order, a choice. Said no public restroom but paying customers are not public. Restrooms are roped off and customers are told to find a somewhere else in an unfamiliar town. My 2 year old had an accident in the middle of the street. Another local restaurant where we didn't spend a dime let us in to change his clothes, wash up, and dispose of solid items. So disappointed. Will never buy again.
google avatar

Abhi J.

Yelp
Had an amazing time at the Been and Jerry's factory tour in Vermont. This had been on my bucket list as a kid and finally made it. The tour is really good and so was the tasting at the end I reduced a star only coz of the store. It had a rather long queue of 40mins and once I reached the counter I found the reason. The girl at the counter was talking to her friends at the back about her weekend and the overall service was slow. She didn't give us any details of toppings available and so the magic was lost of the place, due to the service
google avatar

Patrick O.

Yelp
It's downtown Burlington so of course they are going to have a Ben & Jerry's. And it's great for what it is it. And by that I meant it's your typical chain ice cream shop. The ice cream is great, and there is a plenty of space for people to sit. They have a great selection of flavors from rather standard to pretty creative. So, chances are you'll find something you like. It's located in the heat of downtown and makes for a great place to stop off for a snack. If you like ice cream you won't go wrong here.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Came into the home of Ben & Jerry's, where it all started. Orderd the caramel blondie and chocolate ice cream
google avatar

Rob G.

Yelp
Great ice cream place in the town where it started. Can't go wrong with Ben & Jerry's! Wifey had the Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl- I had the Tonight Dough- Chocolate & Caramel ice cream with chocolate cookie swirls and chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie dough. Whew! A VW microbus to sit in too. Yum!
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
Bucket list item checked off! You need to come here while passing through VT (with the fam) to get a few scoops. For sure different than your roadside scoop shop in a great way. I would love to come back when the full tours are available but it's still worth going now! My all time new favorite is their new whisker Carmel cookie ice cream, man does that hit all the senses on a good day. The "ice cream graveyard" is fun too! Crazy seeing all of the wild concoctions they put out to the market that were short lived. Like, was sweet potato ice cream really a thing? I guess so!

Peter P.

Yelp
The service was really great and fast, but at the same time they didn't rush us at all. The ice cream was delicious as always!
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
It is what it is! If you want Ben and Jerry's ice cream then this is the place to be. It's hard serve ice cream and the sizes are pretty big. I'm not a huge Ben and Jerry's fan (sorry!), but I gave it 4 stars because it was exactly what I was expecting. You can get some crazy cones and the small size is 2 scoops! So you can mix and match... the place can get busy, but there's never a rush to get you out. So you might as well grab a seat and eat your ice cream and hang out. Cookies and cream is my favorite of the ice creams! It tastes exactly like Oreos and milk, with some Chocolate chip cookies on the side!
google avatar

Yelp
We can't skip B&J in it's hometown, right? Following another factory visit the other day, we stopped by the Church St store for a breather. Liked: both raspberry and banana peanut butter froyo were good, although the peanut butter chunks became a little too much by the time I finished. There was one male staff who was particularly friendly and helpful, so we appreciated it. The cute water dispenser was also welcome, although it seems to be common across the board. Disliked: the flavours that were supposed to come with chunks didn't have nearly as many chunks as what we would get at re factory or some other stores. While we suspect it might be bad mixing, we were definitely less enthusiastic on this visit. Would we be back? Sure, but we'll be watching out for even mixing!
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
I was amazed at how fast the line moved. This was a great stop for butterfat goodness on a warm sunny day. I always like stopping by a scoop shop as they often have new flavors, some of which never make it to pints. Scoop shops also have several flavors that aren't sold in grocery stores. I wanted to sit in the VW bus and take a picture, but I got the side-eye from RL, so I didn't.
google avatar

Kelley D.

Yelp
Ice cream is as great as always ! I was visiting Burlington for the week and stopped by to get a scoop. The place is impeccable, super clean. They have a "one way in different door out" which is kind of confusing because they expect us to know what flavor we want, before we can even see the ice cream options, because of the way it's set up. Nevertheless it's a great place for ice cream even in the winter lol.
google avatar

Lindsey O.

Yelp
Honestly of large chain ice cream shops, Ben & Jerry's is far and beyond the best. I went to the B&J factory a few days before coming here while traveling around Vermont and just had to have a round 2 before leaving Vermont. I had the Justice Remix'd flavor which is seriously terrific but unfortunately very difficult to find in stores (at least in Arizona, where I'm at). Big fan! The service here is very friendly and it's a decent sized shop. There's also a little bit of outdoor seating if I recall (on a nice day). Add to that, Ben & Jerry's overall stands on the right side of history, their flavors promote justice and a number of other important causes, and all of these things make me even happier to support them (and that's not even mentioning they have the best flavors). Great location, and will always be a fan!
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
I see the halo effect and group-think at work. That's because I see all these 5s for Ben & Jerry's in its hometown of Burlington VT and downtown on pedestrian, yet not that pedestrian, Church Street. If coming in from out of town, Ben & Jerry's may not be as impressive. I've only had it in cartons, in Portland OR, and here, at this store. I don't remember any of the experiences as being stellar. I'm just as happy at Baskin-Robbins or eating Tillamook ice cream products. Some of the flavor names are sort of cool, though. They'll let you sample different things because the names can be more creative than not and, being on Church Street, the store is sort of nifty. Sort of. Ben & Jerry's in downtown Burlington VT is basically a-ok. And, because of what it is and where it is, it's more likely to be a 3 star locale to which you will return to get some ice cream, if and when in this town, than not.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Listen up. Frozen yogurt does not mean you're making sacrifices. The banana peanut butter flavor by B&J is out of this world. I would choose it over their chunky, gooey chocolatey, funny name whatever any day. As for this particular location, it doesn't get much better than this - right in the heart of Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington with Lake Champlain only a few blocks away. To top it all off they offer outdoor seating and the line moves quickly. One more note: they sell ice cream cakes. And this funny new creation called a Brrr-rito (waffle cone rolled into a burrito shape and stuffed with ice cream)
google avatar

Yelp
Home of the famous Vermonster, and mini Vermonster. I love the variety of ice cream flavors they offer at the farm. I love how they tell the story of Ben & Jerry's through displays on the walls and at little stops you can make as you walk through the farm. While I didn't go on the official tour when I went, I did my own self guided tour of farm and walked through the public areas. My favorite stop during my walk was the flavors graveyard, where they erected actual headstones for their retired flavors. If you've never been to the farm, the graveyard is located on top of a hill to the left side of the farm. While there is a little bit of slope, walking there should not be difficult. It is a good walk for families and their kids. If you're at the farm, you must try their ice cream, especially if you've never had it before. If you're going with a small family, I would recommend getting the mini Vermonster, which comes in a small bucket with 10 scoops of ice cream (they offer good portions) plus a few toppings of your choice.

Styarria G.

Yelp
Nice, clean location. The shop is located amongst lots of shops and restaurants. We were strolling around shopping and decided to stop in for some ice cream. There is a cool van with sitting area inside.
google avatar

Rajesh K.

Yelp
Honestly it's Ben and Jerry's. The ice cream was great. I got the half baked that was amazing. As long as the service was great, which it was, it is hard not to have a great experience. FYI, small cup is still huge. Chose your portions wisely.
google avatar

Ben W.

Yelp
Busy Place on a Friday night in the summer with the line out the door. 2 scoops in a waffle cone sets you back 6$ after tax which a bit steep especially for in my opinion nothing special ice cream. They have all these different flavors but theres not that makes the ice cream stand out like Puritan ice cream in Manchester, NH. I wouldn't go back with very little to remember it by.
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
Soooooo good. Possibly one of the best parts of Burlington. It is right on church street so it is with all of the cool places that you want to be. There is always a line but it goes very quickly and even if it didn't, some waits are worth it. As usual, all of their flavors are great as is their service. They are very accommodating to what you would like and are very helpful when you have no idea what you want. There is ample seating indoors and outdoors or you can take your ice cream with you on a walk through church street. There is also some Ben & Jerry's gear for sale. Overall, a pretty great location for really great ice cream

Stephen C.

Yelp
Overrated big name average at best ice cream. Small sundaes. Smaller local shops wherever one lives will give a better more satisfying product
google avatar

Christine U.

Yelp
Salted caramel blondie is the best ice cream and I cannot find it outside of the state of Vermont. We live in Montreal and if we pass through Vermont we always make sure to stop here to get a scoop or 4. Most of the times when we've gone it's been fairly busy, but it varies. Ice cream scoopers are always cheerful.
google avatar

Yelp
Ben and Jerry's started from Burlington so it was the best fresh ice cream cones and ice cream. We all loved it. The service was amazing and people were friendly and nice.

Yelp
I love Ice Cream and I love Ben and Jerry's! I used to love the location at IU on a hot day in the summer! I was super excited to do the tour. My friend said it was super cheesy, but it was free with the Yelp app check-in! Free is right up my alley! The saved money meant we could get ice cream afterward! I mean we would have anyway, but it was nice to use that as an excuse. We did get a sample at the end of the tour. But having a dish of my own brought back memories! The tour was very interesting. Our tour guy was super cheesy, but it was funny that he tried so hard to be funny. Ben and Jerry's does a lot for the area and I was glad to hear that they still do even though they have gone corporate. I really liked the video with the history and liked finding out about the random Ben and Jerry's in the Middle East. We even got to see them on the floor packing it up! I liked the flavor wall at the end. And we checked out the flavor graveyard! If you are in the are it's worth a stop. It was only $4 or free with the app. It might get busy in the summer, but they offered tours frequently. In November we had no issue just driving up and getting on the next tour. But I wouldn't count on that in a busier season.
