I love the yoga class with Holly on Tuesday nights !!!! I can already see a difference in my strength and flexibility from the classes! Everyone is so welcoming to newbies! I have also taken the body pump class on Thursday night it was definitely a challenge but also enjoyable!! And the Zumba classes are so much fun it doesn’t even feel like a work out!! Getting a YMCA membership was the best decision i have made for myself and my family, I have been consistently going for about 2 months and have lost 35 lbs (I’m losing weight slowly to avoid too much loose skin). The clubhouse (daycare) staff is amazing and my two girls 2 and 8 love going to play and they are always having different events to keep the kids having fun!! I would never choose a different gym because the YMCA is more then just a gym each location has different programs and classes the possibilities are endless!!

This facility is not clean and they need to do something about it. The treadmills are full of dust so thick you can see dirt all under and around the machines it’s nasty.. the windows are not clean and you can see crickets in the light fixtures and ceiling tiles are stained. It’s so hot in there ! 1 star because the front desk guy was nice.

I want to love the Y, but it has gotten too crowded for my wife and I to use. There is too much equipment too close together. Using the rowing machine, lifters are clanging plates less than a foot from my head. People also are always getting right up on you as they pass. The circulation space is clogged with equipment.

Group X instructors (Body Combat and Body Pump) are phenomenal! Facility is clean and well maintained. Front desk is always helpful and polite.

We signed up for two different classes for our daughters for swim lessons. We liked the instructors and the lessons. However our main complaint is they cancelled three days of lessons for one of the classes. The cancellations happened the day of and an explanation wasn’t given. Makeup days were offered then two of them cancelled. Then, for my other daughter’s class, only one lesson was cancelled. But the teacher never showed up for the makeup lesson. This left my daughters in tears over and over again because they loved coming to swim. Classes were only supposed to be for two weeks, only eight classes. This is was extremely frustrating to be treated this way. A refund was given. But still, we wanted swim lessons not empty promises and a refund.

I'll start by saying I have visited this YMCA in the past and had absolutely no issues. It is a generous sized space with multiple activities and resources. Today I entered the Y for information about military rates and programs. I was inside the facility for a total of maybe 5 minutes. I was assisted at the front desk then walked to the pool to see what water exercise classes were offered. I opened the door, took an up close picture of the schedule, then proceeded to look for an employee to request a utensil for my lunch. I answered my phone as I walked down the hall only to be stopped by the manager (very nice, professional, polite man BTW) and told that someone reported me for taking pictures of the children! Who I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT DO😮 I'm a nurse in my civilian life (20+ years) and a retired nurse from the Army (30 years), and I worked with women and children during my civilian career. I've been on the human trafficking team, advocated for those that were trafficked, worked on the sexual assault team and advocated for them. So for someone to accuse and report me to management for taking pictures of children is very hurtful and disappointing. ☹️ I understand that the privacy of the children should be protected, but the way the situation played out today seemed hateful IMO. To my fellow veterans, although this facility is larger, the Ryan family YMCA is a smaller facility with more of a family/community feeling...especially for those of you that may suffer from anxiety and PTSD in crowds.

It's always nice and clean from the floors to the bathrooms and equipment. Everyone greets you with a smile and is always willing to help.

Yelp
Can't trust them during volleyball season, supposed to be done 3 weeks ago from the front desk saying that there finished but still come back and they have it, had some type of volleyball practice not even the people at front desk knew about it until they called someone, so they have lack of communication with staff and people that go to gym

Yelp
The best YMCA I've been too.Great facility with excellent management. This has saved my life by going here..

Yelp
I love this Y! So to do a lot of my neighbors which is why it is sometimes crowded but I have always been able to get a good workout in though sometimes I have had to change the order in which I do some of my workouts, e.g. Triceps or Lat pull downs, as sometimes they are in use. Jim Lowery, one of the personal trainers, is the best. I have been using his services for quite some time and he has been good at not putting me in situations where I might be injured while, at the same time, seeming to know exactly how hard to push me as often the last rep is the last one I could have done. The staff is friendly and competent and it feels like a friendly and safe place to be.

Yelp
Really good group fitness class options. The workers and the community there is very welcoming. I wish the pool always made sure to have a lap lane open but besides that it's been great. If you go at the busy times of day once everyone gets off work it's gonna be busy. If you don't like it being busy it's slow for most of the day before 5pm

Yelp
The Benbrook Community YMCA is a dangerously overcrowded gym with NO ONE WEARING MASKS in the machine/weight training area. When this was brought to the Front Desk's attention, the very polite woman stated that the only rule they have is that people wear a mask to come in...but after they are in, they can take it off. This makes No Sense at all, especially with dozens of people huffing, puffing, sweating, yelling, sneezing and coughing ALL OVER THE PLACE. Good bet that this place becomes a "spreader location". Stay Away if you value your health!

Yelp
Too small for the amount of people... Have to wait for every piece of gym equipment. Too busy at nearly any time. It needs upgrading as well

Yelp
Me and my boys went there 3/13/2019 with the free day passes to check out the facility and play basketball. I was told the rules have changed and we couldn't play without a member with us. Totally not what the website says! Instead we were told that we can go outside and play ball! It's was freaking 9pm! I came from Crowley and that's a drive for nothing. Not to make it a racial issue but I knew and told my boys watch what happens when we go inside there! It was only a hour before they closed and we got turned away with a FREE pass.

Yelp
We LOVE the Y, just wish their weekend hours were better. Love the classes, youth sports, and childcare option.

Yelp
Very dissatisfied with the staff and cleanliness of child watch. My child has had hand foot and mouth after coming here. And every other virus under the sun. They threatened to cancel my membership because my 22 month old cries because he misses me. Every time about 5 days a week they pull me out of my workout. To come pick up. Why have a membership if you can't actually use it. Don't waste your time with YMCA. It's sad because I've been a YMCA member for 7 years. What a waste to lose a loyal customer and all the friends I've recommended to your business.

Yelp
AVOID during morning and anytime between 4-6. Although these are typically busy hours at a gym, this gym has much too small of a space for the amount of members that come in. In fact, I'm not sure why they even have yoga mats because there is absolutely no room to lay one out while safely avoiding a machine nearby that is being used. If you have a family, this may be a great option for you because of activities/childcare. Three stars based on machines (decent condition for most, only 1 stair master) and cleanliness.

Yelp
The first YMCA I have went to (a few years ago), and I am still going. + Staff is usually very nice, and more helpful than another center I recently have gone to. Large indoor swimming pool. Occupancy is usually minimal (unless going in the morning). Facilities and Machines are well maintained. Members are usually courteous. Very nice child care center. - Pool is closed in evenings at considerable length for events. Staff is usually hired without equal opportunity. Lifeguards vary from easygoing and helpful, to pushy and bias.

Yelp
The Benbrook YMCA used to feel crowded and always packed. They have since did a major remodel. Opening up the main workout area. There are plenty of treadmills, free weights, and other equipment. They have an indoor pool and several smaller workout rooms for other classes. All in all I enjoy working out at the Y and the people are great.

Yelp
This is a VERY nice Y. There is an indoor pool, a giant indoor basketball court and ample sized group exercise rooms. The equipment in the fitness room is relatively new and very well maintained. My daughter was impressed with the child watch (this isn't her first rodeo, lol) as well as the fact that they have Christmas trees everywhere. If this is your first time taking your little one go a bit early if you're trying to catch a class, so you can fill out the child information sheet. Even though the class is full, I do have to say that Christens zumba class is awesome!!! That would explain why it's full. She does a high intensity workout with smooth transitions. This is definitely a 700 calorie burning type of zumba class.

Yelp
The Benbrook YMCA/community center and adjoining ballfields and playground make an amazing area for the city of Benbrook. Long walking paths make their way from local neighborhoods to the center. Numerous classes are offered at the center. Indoor pool is cozy, but adequate. Gym is great. Staff is super. Exercise area is very nice and the whole place is newer, and kept clean. Inside and out. My only complaint is that the place doesn't have racquetball courts. They are on a long piece of land, so maybe in the future. Haven't been in a while and hope to rejoin soon. The body isn't getting any younger.

Yelp
We LOVE the Y! We became members back in November and have really enjoyed it here! If all of the locations close to us, this one is our favorite. We mostly to Body Pump (Kathy and Karen are AWESOME) The child watch is always great with my son, he loves coming here, and very much enjoys their kid fit class! Thanks for helping my family be as healthy as we can be!

Yelp
I paid for swim lessons and the coach kept calling in presumably to care for her "partner" and they refused to refund the money since they would not allow us to have one of the other coaches teach the makeup lesson. I don't recommend this location unless you want them to rob you.

James C.

Yelp
I've been a member since it opened in 2000 and previously used the downtown Y almost daily for a couple of years for workouts. From the get-go, I couldn't believe they put the water drain right in the middle of the dressing area of the men's locker room. There's nowhere for swimmers coming in from the pool dripping wet to dry, and no drain near the showers, so the floor where you dress is never completely dry. Fails locker room design 101. Despite all the additions to the building over the past 17 years, they haven't added one square inch to the workout floor. It's cramped and dangerous. The youth sports are almost laughable, especially the officiating. All they care about is keeping the games on schedule. In tackle football, kids can get away with murder on field with no flags. If you want to go work out on a weeknight but have a child, say, 8-12 years old, there's nothing for them to do, especially during the winter. They're not allowed on the workout floor, and the basketball courts are nearly always booked for practices.

Yelp
Thank you for a great pickleball tournament! YOUR staff is the BEST. You guys ran such a great tournament and we can't wait to play again.

Yelp
Took my daughter here for swim lessons. The instructors here are very nice. The facilities are nice too. Weirdest thing is that the aquatic director is a whale.... I would imagine someone who is a director of swimming would actually be able to swim.

Cathy H.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. Lovely people, with lots of amenities. ,considering the size. Lots of good classes and awesome people. Definitely not a "seen and be seen" gym, which I love. Always very clean. Ladies at the child watch (free for members) couldn't be nicer!
