A friend and I wanted to enjoy the warm fall weather, so we popped over to Benchmark for a late brunch. We were told the wait was about 20 minutes, and left our number with the hostess, and ambled around the neighborhood while we waited. The wait time provided was accurate, and when called we returned and were seated at a nice 4 top by their mini courtyard. Tables are separated appropriately, and servers wore masks at all times.
My friend ordered the steak and eggs, and kindly shared a few bites of the steak. It was well seasoned, cooked to temperature, and I was able to cut through my slices with my butter knife. The steak was definitely decently proportioned considering the price, and came with toast, eggs, and cheddar cheese potatoes.
I decided to go all out since I haven't done outdoor dining since the pandemic hit, and had the bacon cheeseburger hash - topped with poached eggs under a mustard hollandaise. This was decadent, heavy, and nearly put me into a food coma right at the table. Absolutely delicious, but not for a lightweight eater. The cheeseburger hash was rich and fatty, with crisp edges, and a copious amount of bacon generously sprinkled throughout the hash. The eggs were perfectly poached with gloriously viscous centers pouring onto the hash when cut into - I can't resist a runny egg. The tart tang of the mustard hollandaise helped cut into the rich flavors.
We both enjoyed our bellinis and water with brunch, which our server was always quick to refill umprompted. The service was friendly, and unrushed, and were it not for the masks, we almost felt like the world had returned to normal for a few moments.
Neither one of us could attempt dessert after that rich brunch, so we shall have to return to conquer that another day - and to enjoy the other delicious options tempting us from the menu.
