Bending Branch Winery

The minuite we walked in we were able to get a table and were greated with a tasting spash of wine right out of the container. They had a large variety of wine and bourbon. We did the Texas wine tasting, but they have options for 2 different bourbon tastings or a wine tasting of their California wines. They have a large selection of bottles to take home as well. They have some cocktails and coffee options as well. There are some charcuterie boards as the food option. Some indoor seating and lots of outdoor seating on a gorgeous patio.

This is an extremely innovative winery that is the only winery making Texas wine aged with Texas White Oak. Tannat is the wine to try here, but the Picpoul is also outstanding. This is a bit of a drive from central Texas, but we'll worth the trip.

Go to the tasting room in downtown Comfort instead! I literally went to both places the exact same day, with zero preparation or previous contact. Bending Branch is using Newsom fruit anyway, is what I found out. Might as well just go to the source, which is Newsom farms; right? Bending Branch is the kind of overdone example in vintners that fairly, turns the majority away from all things wine and spirits. The experience was grandiose, high priced, and fanciful methodologically (e.g. freeze processing) and lacking bed side manner. It’s as if it all was a product of the American Medical Association, which we all know is 51 parts for money and maybe somewhere in the lesser vessel of denomination for quality of life. A significant amount of time and money was laid out from this one visit here. And, many moons have been taken to reflect and sample the product made just by this vintner. During the visit, in a flourish of naivety, a note of thanks was left for the owner of this fine establishment, with less than 150 reviews as of this review posting, and even offered to connect botanically and scientifically to this high falutin’ venue. No one even sent a thank you email pitying the victim here. 😂. Note: this paragraph is on the reviewer for fault and mis-managing expectations. Pic is of spirits which was very high priced and pretty raw, broken cork ta’bout. This is an average three star experience but it’s definitely not bad!

We usually visit their booth on Market Days at the Pearl in SA TX . So we were excited to finally visit the family owned Bending Branch winery in Comfort Texas Founded in 2009. Known for Tannat-based red wines which are a smooth, full-bodied, robust red wine . We enjoyed a wine tasting , They also offer premium bourbon tastings. Nice outdoor patio & seating area. Live music every Saturday afternoon. Open noon to 6 p.m. daily. .

We visited Bending Branch when we lived in Texas 10 years ago and STILL remember this vineyard by name as our favorite. When my husband was in Houston for business, he hit up an HEB and brought home this red and we’re enjoying it today. Bending Branch is wonderful! Worth the stop!

Only ended up at this winery because it was one of the only (if not the only) wineries opened on Monday and was not disappointed in the slightest. Tom was awesome, this was our first wine tasting and we told him to guide us and let him decide what we should taste. He was incredibly knowledgeable and told us about the whole process and what sets Bending Branch apart. Regardless on what day of the week it is, the next time we’re in town and want to go to a wine tasting, we WILL be stopping by here before choosing any other.

Very nice grounds. Liked several of the b p urb p ns and the one wine I tasted. They seem short staffed for all of the tastings they booked. Our waitress seemed rushed. Doctor Bob was kind enough to speak with our group. Overall, good experience. Don't expect a paper receipt. They have to "run upstairs"to get it.

Bending Branch Winery is a standout in the Hill Country. The wines are exceptional—thoughtfully crafted and full of character—and the tasting experience is always memorable. The setting is beautiful, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy every sip. The hospitality is warm and genuine, making each visit feel special. It’s a place that showcases the very best of Texas wine.

My wife and were with some friends winery hopping this past weekend and they suggested Bending Branch as it is a distillery as well. Me being more of a whiskey drinker and less a wine sipper, jumped at the opportunity. So off we go. Due to the Texas heat, we stayed indoors, but the outside area was nice. While the others opted for wine fights, I went for the a whiskey flight. I had a nice 4 glass pour and the spirits were good. Even bought a bottle. ChickenDuck Eclipse Ed. was its name. Great taste but even better story. This particular selection was bottled for the April 2024 eclipse and our son and daughter in law got engaged on that day in nearby Mountain Home, Tx just as the eclipse was starting. I finished off with an old fashioned - so good. The wife and friends liked their wine tasting, but nothing like having a drink and a story to go with it.

Went back this weekend and service was back to its high level. Great wine & weather. Thank you for listening to your customers.

We were in Comfort, so why not wine. No one there but us, so we made new friends with the crew. Beautiful property just outside of Comfort. On a hill, so will be nice to sit outside soon. We started with a bourbon tasting. I am very glad that I did not care for the $500 bottle taste. But I got to taste. We did take home a very nice bottle that they created for the eclipse. The wines were fantastic. Tasted a temp, a blend, and a tannat. Then their port. Don't tell the wife but I am now in yet another wine club. Took home a bottle of the blend - Twister. Love blends. Also got a bottle of tannat aged in bourbon barrels. Can't wait to taste that. Also had to have the port. Always nice to find great wine. Oh a great name for some of their bourbons - ChickenDuck. I think I missed the explanation. Wanted the sweatshirt but not the right size.

Came here as our winery had promotion with Bending Branch and we got same discount as if we purchased from our winery. Small inside tasting area and about 5 tables outside. Staff very nice, professional, but it was busy so kind of hard to get full info on what we were tasting from staff. The tasting menu did have fairly good description of the wines. Their champagne was great. Red was okay for my tasting. It was right after the flood, so they had a trio of reds for sale with all proceeds going to victims of the flood. The Tempranillo in the trio was appreciated by our friends. Would recommend.

Some friends and I checked out Bending Branch using our wine tasting passport and we loved their Tannat EM so much that we got a bottle of it to share after our tasting flights. I would recommend checking out other vineyards while in the area if you don't live close or adding it as a stop on your way to somewhere in the area. The staff were polite and if I'm in the area, I'll definitely stop by again.

I will have to say that we were apparently here on a night that was crazier and busier than usual. Not much room in the bar and no place to sit. My wife had the wine and I had the whiskey tastings. Neither one of us was extremely impressed with any of the wines or whiskeys that were served. It was also just a little bit pricey for the teeny tiny pores that they gave us. Might be worth a try tonight, where it is not so busy. Other than that, we had a decent time. Took a little while to get here off the main road and comfort.

Superb winery a bit off the beaten path outside the town of Comfort. Nice country drive out to the winery, which has both outside and interior seating. Quaint interior with friendly and helpful staff. Of particular interest are the tastings offered. The wine flight is $30 for five as of August 2023 but I believe you get a souvenir glass as part of the price. However, we went specifically for their bourbon tasting, which is four unique locally made bourbon shots for $18. This is a rare offering in wine country, the most similar I've found are distilleries who serve rum or vodka. Smoky and with hints of caramel, if you're a bourbon fan (or just want to break away from wine) this is definitely worth a visit! 5 out of 5 stars!

We really like Bending Branch. Never had a wine there that we didn't enjoy. Peaceful setting. Their on-site aged KY Bourbon is also very good but wait until you have one of their mixed drinks that blends their red wine with the bourbon...Best Whisky Sour in Boerne/Comfort area. The only suggestion would be for more shirts and hats featuring their Chicken Duck logo.

Great service. The ladies helping us were so kind and the tasting was great. The wines have their own depth and were delicious.

Stumbled upon this winery because our daughter was doing some volunteer work at a camp close by. What a nice little winery, with great wines some of we never heard of. The folks were super friendly and the wine was so good, we joined the wine club. The tasting room has an adjacent patio and live music on the weekends. Kids are welcome, which is a plus. They do have a members only area up the hill, with complimentary snacks. Dr. Bob is such a sweet man, and explained to us how he got started with the Tenant grapes and growing grapes in general. Next time we will for sure allow more time in our travels to spend here.

We had a tour with Stephanie and the owner Dr. Bob. They were very friendly and kind and took their time explaining the process and everything they do. I highly recommend Bending Branch Winery.

Bottom line up front: BEST wines in and around Boerne. PERIOD. Details: Esposa and I have been here several times recently. It's well off the beaten path, but worth the twisty country drive past beautiful Texas Hill Country creeks, ranch, and farmland. Ample parking. Clean modern tasting room. Crowds vary drastically from SRO to semi-busy. The staff are friendly and helpful, some more than others. Okay, enough of the extras. You want to know 'bout the vino, que no? Okay, so the regular wines are good to very good. Skip them. Pay a little extra and sample the reserve wines. Those are very good to excellent. The club-member-only wines are the best. We have now joined their club and are happy to visit to pick up our obligatory club wines (somebody has to do it, right?).

Drove in from Houston and decided to stop at this winery before heading to the hotel. We reserved a spot online prior to arriving which was easy enough to do. We really enjoyed the tasting, servers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The view was amazing so we chose to enjoy our tasting outside. Some small gnats were flying around but no fault to the winery, just comes with the location. Online they say there is live music on the weekend/winery tours however when I asked what else there was to explore, the staff explained they had music further up the hill as an exclusive for their wine club members. Wish we could have gotten a day pass or tour but those were the only downfalls!

I first want to recognize all of the obvious hard work that the workers here are providing. I know they are a small business and they are doing their best to operate by the safety guidelines. They were very welcoming and friendly. While it is a very small tasting room, they provide different options to enjoy their wines. Most of the options are on the sweeter side for me, but if you love sweet you'll love this place. It is a great place to enjoy peace and quite, and a great sunset! Check them out and support small business!

Great little winery. Lovely outdoor space, great covid protocol, friendly staff, dog friendly, and great wines. It has been several years since we made it here last, but we will make sure to come back again soon based on this recent visit!

While the wine is very delightful, the service and acknowledgement of our presence was less than impressive. I/we were walked away from during our tasting several times for deliveries, drive up orders and customers that arrived after us. The ladies were more interested in tequila drink recipes than us trying to enjoy the atmosphere and learning about the wines offered. Other customers got three pours on their tasting and actually was told they didn't have to pay for their tasting. Possibly because they immediately mentioned they were there to purchase 3 bottles of wine? Not sure what the deal was? I/we felt sooo unwelcome. We went off the beaten track on our trip to visit and was so let down. While all of your reviews are fabulous, I wonder if they are all verified? Sorry, have to be honest.

Aside from the amazing scenery and relaxing atmosphere, the service was absolutely top notch! We went as a group to celebrate my daughter in law's birthday and we expected some tasty wine, but the phenomenal service was a very pleasant surprise! The staff was both friendly and attentive. To boot, I ended up leaving my iPhone on the patio banister. After searching, asking, and shutting down service over the course of a couple of days, I decided to call and see if perhaps it was there. They said they had it and mailed it to me WITHIN A DAY at no charge (which I would've gladly paid for)!! Who does that? Super impressed with this place! A++ in my books!

Stopped in here on a day of visiting wineries, and was thrilled by the experience. Staff was exceptional and made you feel welcomed from the moment you stepped through the door. A nice selection of wines, including a few not on the tasting sheet. The High Plains Rosé was quite good, lots of flavor. Several of the reds were really nice as well, and we got lots of details on the wines, grapes, and region as we tasted. Excellent experience all around, and highly recommend a trip in.

Our visit today, 11-3-2021, was a disappointment. A friend and I chose this winery from the beginning of our vacation plans finding the beauty of the area spectacular. Initially, it was a pleasant greeting; however, after our very first tasting another couple arrived and ALL attention was diverted from us to them. We were treated 2nd rate, and it was obvious they felt the other customer deserved their undivided attention. There were several loud and boisterous interruptions that distracted from what could have been a pleasurable experience. We won't be back.

I like this place! If you are up for the drive which can be really cool if you take the scenic route you will be rewarded with good wine, a pleasant relaxing Hill Country setting and very hospitable hosts. The tasting pours were generous. The $10/5 pours is a decent deal but even better if you buy two bottles they were comped for both of us. We actually purchased 3, one to enjoy there and two to bring home. They make wine with grapes from all over including California. The Thinkers Blend was a favorite comprising 7 varietals that worked very well. Also we found out the quick way back to Austin was 87 to Fredericksburg then 290 east. Not very scenic but much quicker.

The wine is okay, service was okay... until 30 mins before closing at 6 on a Sat they took our last call order for a party of 20. We got 2 more bottles. After taking our order, they decided to cut us off?? It was a bit inconsistent and rude?

This is our favorite spot in the hill country. The wine tasting fee is $15 and you get to try five-seven wines ( two of the wines were out the last time we went), however the wine fee for me and my partner was waived when we bought two bottles of wine. They have all sorts of wine for every style and (and price range) of wine drinker. Bending Branch has the most gorgeous outside sitting area to enjoy your glass or bottle of wine. We bought a bottle to sit and drink with the picnic we brought and then two bottles to take home with us. If you want to enjoy good wine, a good view and affordable wine this is this is the place to visit!

This is a cute spot! I love the patio underneath the old, large shade tree. Nice music and a relaxing environment. The wine was all a little too dry for my tasting, but we still enjoyed our tasting. Very knowledgeable servers! It's worth the drive!

Wine selection was varied. Not our favorite but other might find wines they enjoy . There's live music on Saturdays which I would return to experience . Large outdoor sitting and beautifully decorated indoor tasting room . Ladies that were working there were friendly and knowledgable of the wine . We did buy one bottle we enjoyed , Tannat.

A great way to spend a day driving to comfort and trying different selections at the tasting room.

The best wine around! We love this place! There isn't a bad wine there. The ride out there is is beautiful and definitely worth the trip.

Just a tip, if you don't like crowds, don't come on Saturdays, they remove the bar stools on the weekends for the purpose to move the crowd. We were the only one there around 1PM on Sunday, so we had a great chit chat with the staff. But when we were leaving, the place is pretty full. We enjoyed the wines and service was great, so nothing to complain to complain about.

Sitting atop 56 acres in picturesque Comfort TX, which was named by Southern Living one of the best small towns of the south is Bending Branch Winery. Founded in 2009 by Dr Robert Young MD who I believe still lives on the property. They are known for their Signature Tannat, and have a full line of excellent wines! The Tasting room is beautifully appointed and the service is friendly and informative. We have visited many of the wineries in the Hill County and this is one of our favorites! We joined the wine club for the quality of the wines they are producing and also the value, the wines are not over priced. Definitely worth a stop on your trip to the Hill County!

Simply great wine. The staff is incredibly friendly. Kim is so nice and knowledgeable. The Chloe, Tannat, and Petite Sirah are fantastic. In fact, they are all so good that we had to sign up for the 1840 club. Can't wait for the blending party!

Considering the rapid growth of the Texas wine industry, it is possible that there is another winery out there that is making better wine than Bending Branch...but I doubt it. Anything that might interest you about this winery from the tasting room to their web site to the labels and obviously the wine, is superior. If you are reading this review to assist with putting together an itinerary of Texas wineries to visit, make sure to put this one at the top of your list. ..about the wine: 2009 Tannat RF, 1840 - This deep red wine has an incredible aroma in the glass that can be called "flowery". There are tastes of red fruits and candy up front, but as the wine oxidizes in the glass, you will likely get something more spicy and chocolatey. 2009 Petite Sirah, 1840 - Another deep, dark red that I label as powerful. You should get the earthy and spicy flavors that are expected along with a subtle chocolate tone. 2010 Comfortage - The name is clever, the wine is awesome. This one is buttery and somewhat woodsy, but not too heavy. If anyone asks what a Texas white wine should be, this is the one. 2009 Picpoul Blanc, 1840 - This is a light and easy white that will pair well with most foods. There are hints of citrus and oak (or cream), but neither will overwhelm your palate. ..about the tasting room: The tasting room is located just south of I-10 outside Comfort. The building and grounds are nicely maintained and the room itself is well done. During my visit, the staff was very helpful and obviously excited about Bending Branch. They know the wine and are more than happy to answer questions. While there, I joined one of their 2 wine clubs. By Texas winery standards, the options available are very unique and should meet the needs of just about everyone. You will not find any of these wines in your local wine shop and their availability overall is somewhat limited so, you should consider joining one of the clubs.....or at least buy a couple of bottles from their website. Texas really needs more wineries like Bending Branch and I hope what is going on here is a sign of things to come.

Love visiting this vineyard. quite and away from the bustling city. Staff is friendly and take their time to ensure you get all your questions answered. Take the tour. They have one of a handful of extraction machines in the nation.

This is THE BEST winery in Texas. I love the staff, so friendly, always willing to help, and I get a warm feeling inside every time I visit. I love what they are doing in terms of sustainability too. I know they just won the BRIT award for sustainability at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. I can't wait to visit again.

We spent two very nice afternoons at Bending Branch. The wine was excellent, staff were friendly and the tasting room and patio were comfortable. The second day, they had live music. We signed up to be in the Wine Club and the second day we we were able to go to the Wine Club Lodge. It is on a hilltop and the view is spectacular. They will be having a party in October with Paella. We will be coming to pick up our first bottles of wine and are really looking forward to it. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit!

just now Only 40 miles from San Antonio, but establishment is not open to diverse ethnicity groups. We were there for almost 2 hours on the patio. No one ever checked in on us or asked if we needed anything. This was our 2nd time here. Same experience each time

Terrible customer service. Beware - do not join their wine club - they don't know how to handle it. Mistakes after mistakes. However: GREAT WINE! They just need to change their staff.

If you like dry wines, this is definitely the vineyard for you. If not, you may struggle a little. Sweeter wines were not offered when I visited. However, what was lacking in wine selection was made up by gorgeous views of the hill country. I loved the outdoor seating area. It was the perfect spot for me and my group to relax and enjoy our surroundings.

We visited on a cool day in the spring when all visitors were crammed inside the quaint tasting room. In spite of the crowd, the staff were fairly adept at handling us all and helped make our tasting as pleasant as possible. You had to walk by their large and well designed patio area to go inside and I wished it had been warm enough to enjoy our tasting there. While most of their wines use Texas grapes, a few they still source from California. We enjoyed the Tannat and Tempranillo best (both grown in Texas). Coincidentally, Bending Branch's location is about a mile down the road from another very good winery, Singing Water Vineyards. Both are out of the way but really worth the visit.

As you may have suspected from any of my other Texas winery post, I am not a fan of Texas wines. 80%+ of Texas Hill Country wines aren't even grown in the Texas Hill Country. I digress. Of my various post, this one is receiving positive reviews and glad I made the visit. I had been putting off a friend for some time who swore by this place. I've heard it before from other novice wine consumers. However, I will say, "why hadn't I visited this place before??!!??" Not one wine was that usual Texas, bland taste. All offered were very good, especially when we got to the Reds. I recommend this winery and their wines and would suggest to search them out at your various neighborhood stores. This place is a gem and hopefully won't be ruined by its growing popularity. Kudos to Dr. Young, owner and vintner!!!!

I wasn't going to write a review because the reviews I read said all I wanted to say...until I read the one about Darrell. I have been a wine club member here for a few years and bring my family and friends to the winery itself as well as the sister location, Branch on High. Yesterday we went to the winery to pick up our shipment, and followed that up to see Darrell at the downtown location. I have never, not one time, had anything other than a stellar experience with the staff, including Darrell. I have never witnessed him say, look or breathe a bad word. He's knowledgable, fun, and approachable. I will happily continue to visit any location he's working at. I'm sure the majority of people who interact with him would agree.

This is an awesome winery! Great wine and music! The patio is spacious with a great view! Our server,Christina was knowledgeable and very hospitable. Definitely coming here for another visit soon! Hi

Wine: 3 Stars Service: 5 Stars View: 4 Stars A great new winery, with a lovely view & patio & tasting room. Small bar with barstools for a friendly, comfortable tasting atmosphere. The owners are working on their grapevines & wines in a sustainable manner. Good wines, but not quite there yet. They are focusing on varietals that will grow well in the Texas climate -- so some interesting grapes: Vermentino (a white grape from Spain), Comfortage (Roussanne grapes from the Southern Rhone area), Cabernet Sauvignon (OK -- you know what those are), and Tannat (a red grape from the Basque area of Southern France & Northern Spain). Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area visiting Singing Waters or Comfort Cellars. Only other issue (apparently a Texas winery issue) -- not comping tastings with a single bottle purchase. Must buy 3 bottles to comp a $10 tasting.

We found this winery on yelp based on other reviews. We thought we'd try it out as we were in town. We had a great time. Kim from the winery was very knowledgeable and friendly as can be. We had a great time and were so impressed with the staff and wine that we became members of their wine club. There wasn't a wine we didn't like. We will definitely be back and recommend our friends here.

Dr. Bob and his whole team make the whole wine experience that much better! Not only are the wines my favorite in all of TX Hill Country, their customer service and personal attention are out of this world. I was running behind on my day before trying to catch a flight and the Bending Branch staff (Susie, no less) agreed to save me some time by meeting halfway to deliver my bottles of wine! I cannot recommend them enough.

Mostly red wines, but a good variety. Darryl took care of us while we had our girls weekend. He was amazing. Funny and made the experience even better. Souzao was my favorite wine
