It is a small restaurant but they provide a variety of sweets of indian dishes. We had a buffet, and we loved it. We come here often whenever we are in Jersey city. They do have so many different varieties of Indian sweets. It is a casual place for good Indian food.

Worst food. Ordered moong daal khichdi yesterday it was stale and had weird smell. Not to mention too much oil for no reason

After coming to this place, I've realized I've never had authentic Indian food before Bengali Sweets. This place is amazing! The prices are great, the service is good, the music is chill. If you're vegetarian come here! If you're a meat guy then it's time to take a break and eat at Bengali Sweets! The food is spicy, savory, and everything you need. When I tell you I ate everything, I mean everything--I left the plate shinier than before.

Google
We went to get some authentic Indian sweets- mostly the Bengali sweets. Although they named the shop by ‘Bengali sweets’ we didn’t find anything Bengali per se, except the rashogolla. I’m not a big fan of rashogolla, so I chose from whatever available. They had a good amount of varieties however, everything looks old. We selected a few and later discovered all of them to be dry, flavourless, and aged! Nothing was fresh. I don’t know how long they were kept like that. The place runs a vegetarian buffet style restaurant also- however, we didn’t eat there. From only the sweets, it was not much impressive at all.

Me and my family had dal bati here and WE LOVED IT! It tasted like it was completly homemade! Also the portion was perfect for us. I really recomend this resturant for those who love homeade food. I hope this reveiw helped you very much to choose an amazing resturant.

Bengali Sweets Corner is NOW Desi Tadka (Veg & Non Veg Restaurant). This is another authentic Indian Restaurant in Jersey City, New Jersey. The speciality of this restaurant is, everything tastes like homemade food at very reasonable prices. It offers unlimited Buffet with variety of items including Chaat as one of the options with special Dosa of your choice. Masala Tea is a must try. They also offer various Lunch boxes depending on the need, which includes Rotis, Vegetable Curries, Dal, Sweet etc., We can find plenty of variety of fresh delicious Sweets. The staff here is very patient and cooperative. Must visit!!! If in Jersey.

This is a very special restaurant. Very clean and the food is authentic. It’s all about the food here. If u want food prepared traditionally this is the place to go. Theirs quite a few restaurants in this area but this one stands out for the food. I’ve never been disappointed. The staff is attentive and you won’t have to wait long either. Phenomenal food.

Google
Large variety of sweets. Their buffet is small but tasty. I would definitely dine in next time. They have more dine in food to pick. Owner was really nice and helpful. Everything is vegetarian.

Yelp
The best tea in the area. Kala jamun stands out. The service is good and quick. Will keep coming here whenever I'm in jersey city

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened to this place and nobody at the restaurant will give you an answer, but the food seems to have changed alongside the service and quality. Tried this twice. Food-not worth the price. Ambience-quiet, not very crowded, but like most of the restaurants in the area at off-peak times. I look forward to trying it again, once I read it has improved or changed up it's quality back to how it once was, which was excellent.

Yelp
Some times I crave Indian sweets :D --- Bengali sweets in particular, so always looking for spots to satisfy that craving. Picked up few assorted bengali mithai (for my non-Indian readers - this is typically milk based sweet and is made out of strained milk curds and sugar). The place has good choice of these sweets and also savory snacks. The shop is walkable distance from Journal Sq Path station. The place looks clean, service was attentive and quick. It looked like they serve freshly made snacks as well in this place.

Yelp
Went here to pickup an order placed through a third party app.Got a push notification on the app that the order is ready to pickup.Went in and asked for it ajd they were very confused.then they checked and started packing the order.I was okay with that and expected that to take 5 mins may be since it is all pre prepared food. Then the girl at the counter started to engage with customers who came after me and did all the packing and billing etc. I asked her after 10 mins and she said it will take sometime. And when is started complaining,a lady came from inside and said they don't have a couple of things i ordered and asked for replacement. Serivce is terrible.Avoid this place if you can. There are much better places in the area. The food was okay. Not worth the time and money.

Munira P.

Yelp
Worst service, took ages to receive an order, it's wasn't even superb busy. It took then 20 minutes to make a moong dal cheela. Ambiance - is dated

Yelp
Food: We went on a weekday around 6 pm; food was mostly cold, most curries ( generic term) were pulses( some sort of dal) , there was one that had some vegetables, and one with paneer. Plain rice and some form of spiced rice were barely room temperature. Gol gappe were okay , water was a bit too salty. Dahi bale was okay(2/5), the rest of the sweets were also 2/5( gulab jamun , a type of sondesh). I liked the srikhand which was not as sweet as the store bought versions. I would rate that 4/5. Fresh roti was good. Service: okay ( they came twice with fresh roti); not great but I wouldn't call it bad given that one person was managing online deliveries and in person dining. Would I come back: No Why: for a vegetarian buffet, I expect to eat vegetables ( and not just dal 1, dal 2 , dal 3). ( just like it wouldn't be a non veg buffer without chicken or lamb, right?)

Yelp
HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL, SHAMELESSLY UNAPOLOGETIC SERVICE! I ordered for a corporate event on phone (I dealt with a lady, she did not give her name) and clearly mentioned delivery for 10am, even paid custom delivery. But until 10:30am there was no sign of delivery. When I called, I was told that the order will be delivered in 5 minutes. However, at 10:37am I was told that my order just left the shop. I called to ask why they delayed by order and lied to me in the first place that my order was on its way (when actually it had not even left the shop), the lady did not admit that she messed up the timings. Then SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!! I called back but she said they are very busy with Diwali orders and have no time to deal with me. My order finally arrived at 11:07am, all this time I was so nervous if my order was actually coming. Imagine your order being late by 35 mins for a 2hour event ;( I do not know whether this lady is an employee or owner of the shop, but she is highly unprofessional and hurting this business. I feel sorry since the food was good. Shame on this business for not respecting their customers time and their own delivery commitments! DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS SHOP AND SAVE YOUR DIWALI ORDERS FROM GETTING MESSED UP!

Yelp
The food is pretty decent though I am sick and tired of their cash/credit policy. They charge a fee if paying by credit card. To avoid the fee, I have tried paying by cash and then they say they don't have change. This is a bad business practice. You can't charge a credit card fee and then also not keep enough money to provide change. This has happened on 2 different occasions. I recommend heading over to the other eateries on the same street like Mithas or Bikanerwala.

Yelp
Was exploring the area and stumbled on this sweets store. The people at the counter were very helpful in answering our questions and introducing us to desserts that weren't too sweet. There were cases full of trays of sweets and the counter tops were filled with other goodies packaged in plastic containers. Apparently there was a buffet area towards the back with food in trays out in the open. There was also maybe four or five tables with seats in the establishment. I'd be interested in coming back to try more of the sweets but maybe not the buffet.

Johann P.

Yelp
The food is wonderful. I often go there for buffets, and they have a wide variety of offerings (Indian snacks included). Furthermore, buffets are fresh and offered throughout the day from 11 to 9.30, and they're unlimited. But more than anything the people are polite and accommodating. I know the owners well and they're very good people.

Yelp
I am a big fan of family run food joints. This is an amazing place and always my go to for the weekends. A 15 course fresh food that you can eat with joy and feel like home food. I am mostly happy to eat here. Plus the new Gujrati chef/maharaj has improved the food quality a lot. Try this out and you won't be disappointed. Expert tip - Try their tea and ask them if Ganga Aunty can make it. Her hand is magic. Also, they make very tea order fresh from the start. Love it.

Yelp
I write this update with great sadness, as I had previously proclaimed Bengali Sweet House as the best destination for ghar ka khana in the NYC area. But after a recent fire, it seems they've opened up under new management. Turns out the old manager and chef have moved to Hungry Restaurant across the street! Gone are the free mini dosas on the weekend buffet. The bhindi fry used to be my favorite here, and while it looks the same, it now lacks all of the old incredible spice and flavor. Chole was also watery and lacking. Palak paneer was still tasty and paneer had good texture. Even the hot butter rotis they bring around don't have the same soft texture they used to have. Food is not terrible overall, but its certainly no longer my favorite restaurant along the galli. On top of it they raised the price! I will be going to Hungry for Gujarati style brunch in the future.

Yelp
This review mostly concerns the afternoon buffet dining. The food is authentic, tasteful, fresh, mildly spiced, and worth every dollar. The staff is helpful, polite, and very dedicated in serving patrons. The decor of the establishment is lacking overall in style, upkeep - but if decor is your thing, go to the Downtown Jersey City district. The food at Bengali Sweet Corner, particularly during the buffet, is fantastic, worth the trip, and price of admission.

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by a friend who claimed that the food here is good and the nature of preparation is close to a "home cooked food". It indeed felt that way initially. The seating area is small, congested and doesn't seem to be well maintained. The buffet spread directly overlooks a storage area and this whole layout is very untidy. The restaurant may follow hygienic practices to prepare meals but one could strongly question this owing to the condition of the place. Besides, I found the quality of food to be very poor in some instances and I wont return. Advice for the Management: It may seem like many customers may not pay attention to the state of the place but please take an initiative and invest to "condition" the restaurant. Charge a dollar or two more if you have to. Improving the ambiance and dining experience will yield a return in the long term.

Yelp
Service is good, the guy behind the counter- Pawan is very helpful and sweet. Food is decent, nothing great. Prices are on the cheaper side. I ordered dhokla- 12$ per lb. a little hard and not much moist (3/5) And samosa chaat- 6$ (3/5) samosa are not crispy and not even warm. They packed it right from the buffet spread.

Romik P.

Yelp
Food is amazing would recommend their lunch box. Great price for the food.

Yelp
I went to this place for multiple times in last some years. So initially it was under different management and then it changed. That time they introduced Thali and some more small dishes and snack . That period was good , in around $10 you get full Thali. And fresh, straight from Kitchen and with quality food. Some snack items was really good and authentic. May be they were trying to gain more customers and provide good quality. But in last some months things changed. Under new staff and management things are falling apart. In dishes thy not giving quality and trying to cut corners and gain more profits. Also cleaning issue, price issues. In lunch or dinner Thali using not good sabji or items. And that's why now less and less people going there and no much crowd. So conclusion is right I don't recommend trying or going there . If in future situations change I put new review.

Yelp
Their weekend and dinner buffet is $8! On the weekdays, it's $6 for lunch. Now don't let the interior intimate you...it doesn't look much on the inside but the food is pretty good. The quality of the food feels homecooked and is well-made. The buffet is in the back corner of the restaurant and all the food is vegetarian. The waiter was also very nice and would periodically ask us if we needed anything. They serve you fresh rotis and dosa while your'e eating. The dosa was so good - hot and crispy! I'll describe some things I had on my dish clockwise. Also, I don't know the specific name of everything so it's a little embarrassing for me to describe it. There's cauliflower, samosa balls, okra, curry, saag paneer, yellow sauce/curry that tasted buttery, yogurt dessert, flavored rice, roti, baati. You don't come here for the ambiance but for cheap and humble food that will fill you up! They also sell a variety of sweets. They have a takeout lunch box for $5.

Yelp
I have particular taste for certain types of sweets. It's narrow to what I was available growing up in Jersey City. Mostly the traditional bakery products, pies, cakes, cookies and various pastries. You've got to be adventurous to try things outside your comfort zone. If you are that person and not knowedgeable to South Asian sweets, this is your place. Nothing here is familiar in a good way. It's a best way to learn about another cuisine without leaving the comfort of your zip code. Now why just the 3 stars? It's that particular taste to what I think should be a post meal sweets. We ordered 4 items we saw interesting. The items are weighed. I can only describe what it tasted in my way. Again, I am not familiar with South Asian cuisine. From the 4 items, best descriptions I can write are they are super sweet and very dairy. Texture is like a cake soaked in syrup and left overnight in the fridge. Bengali sweets aren't really my cup of tea but understood what I was getting into and was open to it. Now I know what I want and what not to get for next time. Overall it was a interesting experience and that's what matter the most.

Vanshika S.

Yelp
food was stale and cold, made me sick and nauseous! When I requested to warm up the food, they did it in a plastic bowl and when I said the dessert went sour, they argued until I had them try it. only good things were the rotis actually made that day. And completely overcharged for the quality. (as a south Asian, this is not authentic)

Yelp
I ordered some Indian Sweets for International yoga day, which is Friday June 21st, we are going to at the Poway, CA., library to celebrate. I ordered 2 of several different sweet squares and they were all delivered without a packing slip, so I contacted the sweet shop through their contact e-mail, wanting to know what was in some unlabeled containers. Have not heard back so I tried to call today and got voice call. I took a picture of it. I do not want anyone to become Ill so I have decided not to bring this and another box that also has aluminum baked into the bottom.

Yelp
This little bakery used to be my secret as the best homey southern indian food in town (and possibly in the entire US) with the incredibly affordable price for buffet. Both Indian and non-indian would share a table seating in the unusual eating space within a bakery because it was so popular, the food was that good. I would have given 6 stars if I could. Not anymore. In the past few months I was away, something must have happened to this place, the price went up almost double and their food and service is not as fantastic anymore. I should have noticed when the always packed seating area on weekend was near empty. Both new and old customers, be warned. The quality went down that much, to the point I had to write this review. Too sad.

Yelp
There are a whole lot sweet houses on newark avenue(Little India) as it is knows as. One day I was craving for the Indian sweets so decided to give this place a try. The spot right at the end of the Indian street, it has decent space to sit and eat too. Apart from sweets they carry and serve staple indian snack items. I took a box of sweets to go,went with different kinds of sweets. Had the Gulab Jamun, Rasgolla, Mango barfi, Cham Cham. Overall it was just okay, I liked Mango Barfi the most apart from that everything was on the dry side. My quest for an awesome Indian sweet shop is still on!

Yelp
This is an informal Indian restaurant. It's a great dining haven for friends and family. The restaurant is very clean. I actually saw one of the staff ladies wipe the tables within minutes of customers leaving the restaurant. Food is delicious and affordable! It's $9 for the buffet. The buffet has about 10 Bengali and North Indian dishes. There are appetizers, entrees, and sweets. The food is absolutely delicious. So, it's easy to make a 3-, 4-, or even 5-course meal. Who says you can't make it classy for $9. :) The food must be authentic because I only saw Bengalis and Indians dining here. Just a few heads up: * The naan the waitress distributes is free, but the idli is not.

Yelp
excellent food and neat maintenance

Yelp
A complete Vegetarian Restaurant, there is a lot variety in food, sweets and Indian namkeens(Snacks). They offer Buffets in both Lunch and Dinner. I took half a pound of mix sweets(Rasgulla, Chamcham, Pinepapple chamcham, Mango Burfi). Does not feel like Indian Sweets, very hard and not at all juicy. Although the cashier is very polite but I dint like the food specially the sweets. It is also not spacious. At a time maximum 10-15 people can sit. It is cheap, I get half a pound sweets in 6$. I will give one more try for different type of sweets from here.

Yelp
Hmmm... I don't have anything to compare this too. I've never had any Bengali food. This is not just a desert house, they also have a lunch buffet and some items to go. I actually came for the lunch buffet, but I found it very sad so I did not get it. But we did leave with a samosa, which was HUGGGEE, and some dessert. I couldn't for the life of me tell you what dessert pieces were, because we just pointed. Honestly, I didn't really like them. But I'm not sure if that's because I just don't like Bengali dessert or if they were poorly made. Overall, I have been given no reason to try or not try Bengali food again.

Lucy S.

Yelp
Omg amazing place with amazing service. The people here are so nice and terrific with what they do. Will def come back.

Nehal P.

Yelp
Bengali Sweets was my go to every year for Dusshera and Rakshabandhan, but last month, July 2021 we picked up some fafda and quality went down. The old management used to make really good fafda and jalebi but under the new management the quality and taste has gone down.

Yelp
Really great value for the buffet. I mean, on top of the really quality food selection, you also get unlimited fresh roti and masala dosa. 9$...you really can't beat that. I love that they charge up for wasting food. This is for a few reasons: 1. It cuts down on people... Wasting food. Which is an obnoxious thing in general. I know I've been guilty of it in the past, but I love how I have to be mindful at this buffet. 2. For me, it keeps my accountable. I struggle with an eating disorder so eating at buffets is reallt scary for me. However, I'm also cheap as heck, so not wanting get charged the extra 5$ was motivating me to eat through a whole plate (which my partner had filled to the brim for me) 3. It most likely keeps the costs down here. I'm sure if they were dealing with massive food waste, they would have to charge more but they take care of that super well with the fee. I really enjoyed the food. For a buffet it was pretty high quality and I liked that they made it constantly throughout the afternoon. Nothing seemed to be sitting out and getting old. If you want a quality buffet for a good price... This is definitely a great place to eat.

Yelp
DO NOT go to this place!!! Extremely poor hygiene, contaminated food and the worst service I've experienced in the US. The shrikhand (dessert) from the buffet had multiple strands of hair in my serving. On showing this to our waiter, she just smiled and responded by saying that she did not prepare the shrikhand!! On showing it to another waiter he gave me another serving of shrikhand from the same contaminated container from the buffet!!!! No staff member cared to replace the contaminated shrikhand from the buffet with fresh one while all the customers were relishing on the hairy shrikhand!!! Pathetic service and pathetic food. Go here only if you love thr taste of body hair in your food

Viraj M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. They have a great buffet almost daily. I follow a Jain diet (no root vegetables like potatoes, Onion, garlic, etc) and they always have something. They even give me appetizers from back if they don't have anything on the bigger. It's not the cleanest place in the world, but certainly a"hole in a wall" type place that'sreasonable and good. The staff is also very friendly.
google avatar

Quin A.

Yelp
Yummy sweets. Very nice selection. Mango rasgulla (sweet) is sublime. Rasgullas are great. Gulab jamun is tasty. Jaleby is oh so sweet. Deducting a star for poor attitude of staff!

Yelp
The review from "Noriko Y" is spot on. Wish I had read before going today. I had been a long time fan of Bengali sweets and have eaten here many many times. I have referred this to so many friends. This used to be the only restaurant that served food that felt homemade. The fresh rotis were the best! Today I went there after a long time and everything is changed. The food was awful. Pretty much everything was inedible. They used to serve Masala dosas with the weekend buffet, and it was gone. The "fresh rotis" felt like they had taken frozen ones and microwaved it. On top of that, they have jacked up the price by almost 50%. At that price, there are a lot more options in Jersey city! I noticed that the entire staff was different. Perhaps this has moved under a new management. In any case, it doesn't matter because I will not be visiting ever again.

Natrajan K.

Yelp
My wife picked up a boxed dinner on the evening of Oct. 18, 2020. Our choice was roti, bhindi masala, aaloo-baingan, dal and, of course, rice. The aaloo-baingan was just fresh from the pot! We brought home the boxed dinner, re-heated and enjoyed. Everything was delicious and was NOT of the usual 'restaurant taste'. The food tasted typical home-made! I would suggest to anyone to go for this source for food pickup.

Yelp
Based on yelp reviews I visited Bengali sweet house. The place is very small and it appeared dirty. I was hesitant to buy sweets at first but since I was there I thought to give it a try. I bought different kind of bengali sweets (sweets dipped in sugar syrup) and they turned out to be really good. Prices are reasonable too!
google avatar

Zil D.

Yelp
You can get varieties of sweets. Small cozy restaurant serving fresh and delicious food. Serving hot chapatis for buffet. Good food for good price.

Yugant S.

Yelp
This was my favorite place, since new management took over, this place is horrible, ordered half pound ladoo and half pound milk cake, both were stale, had to throw away, i wish i could go and throw it in their face, that is how horrible it was, and they must have known it was stale, also bought a lunch box to go, it was way too spicy, these new people working are running their business to the dump. Im really upset because this was my favorite place! Just go anywhere else, don't waste your money! No stars but 5 thumbs down! They knowingly sold me old mithai, I hope they close down because they suck now!
google avatar

Gowthami R.

Yelp
Food is fresh. Home preparation sort of. I was so content after trying food at this place. Please maintain the place a bit more. Masa dosa, Roti and bendi fry were yum. Veryy welcoming and service is good. Definitely will go here frequently.

Yelp
For a store that has been raved about so much, the desserts were really disappointing. I tried rosgullas, mango sandesh, gulab jamun, pineapple chamcham and white regular chamcham (all Indian sweets). None of these five items were fresh, and none had any extraordinary flavors. I think bulk-made sweets from any grocery store would taste better than the these sweets from a sweets-special store. Disappointed.
google avatar

Bidisha P.

Yelp
The best bengali sweet in US. I am a Bengali from Kolkata and therefore I can vouch for it that this is the most authentic bengali sweet I have ever had in the US. I am yet to try their buffet but I have heard that is good too.

Yelp
I cant believe I havent written a review for Bengali yet. Its my go-to place for days when I do not want to cook at home but at the same time, do not feel like eating heavy Indian restaurant food. The first couple of times my husband dragged me here,I really didnt get the appeal of eating out at a place where food tastes mostly like home. It grew on me afterwards especially after I sampled their aloo parathas(parathas stuffed with potatoes). It is absolutely delicious with hints of different spices/herbs and the quantity will ensure leftovers. The chole poori (fried bread and chickpeas) too is tasty but this would be better to eat in than take out since the poori loses its crispiness once it is in the take out box. Also,I wish the quantity of chole they give with the poori is slightly more but for $5,I am not going to complain too much. The buffet here is usually simple vegetarian food and features different vegetable curries based on the day.I usually call up before going to find out the buffet menu so that I do not have to deal with veggies I dont like. There is always a dal(lentils) and a sweet dish with the buffet .Be warned, the dal looks like your typical dal but it is sweet(gujarati dal), so try it first before taking a whole bowl of it. There is a $5 charge for wasting food here so keep that in mind while sampling food from the buffet. I personally love the fact that they have this extra charge for wasting food especially for people like me who are guilty of loading up our plates in buffets and then wasting half of it. There are soft fluffy rotis/phulkas served hot along with the buffet and on weekends , dosas are also served. The seating area is quite small, so there is usually a short wait to get seated. This is a no-frills type of place ,so even though it is clean , the atmosphere is quite chaotic. Of course the main attraction of Bengali Sweet House are the different types of Indian sweets available,so there is always a steady line of customers waiting to get the scrumptious laddoos, pedas, burfis and many more. The ladies who run the place are always friendly and courteous. The tasty food and very economical pricing is reason enough to keep coming back.

Yelp
This is the worst place to try Indian sweets. Bad customer service, bad quality, stale, pricy, pungent & spoilt too. We had ordered Ras malai, Rusgulu, Amriti & samosa to go. The Ras malai was spoilt & had a gross pungent smell. My kids age 4 & 2 ate it & were feeling uneasy , later my husband had it too he said it is spoilt. The Rasgulas & Amriti were stale too. We called the shop regarding the issue. The person who answered the call was talking very rudely instead of being apologetic. He was arguing on the phone constantly saying that he knows me we told him that we are not that person he is talking about but he still kept on arguing & screaming. Last he admitted that he thought that we are some other customer that he had served earlier that day. He was then apologizing & saying he will give refund after all that assuming & arguments. Pathetic place would never go there ever again in this lifetime.

Yelp
Excellent selection of vegan sweets! They were very helpful in indicating what had dairy, with plenty of vegan options to choose from.

Yelp
Came here to have the Saturday night buffet. The service was really good! However, the food was not good, everything from dal to chole to navratan korma had lot of oil in it. For dessert, the halwa was just kept in a small bowl and did not look anything like what a halwa generally looks like (it had so many lumps in it and was never refreshed with fresh halwa - seemed as if whatever was left over was served to the people). The place was also super crowded and people bumped into each other and elbowed each other because there was no space to walk and eat in peace.

Yelp
Real homely Indian food! This is my regular place. The buffet is perfect substitute to perfect home meals.

Yelp
The store has been named Bengali Sweets but they barely sell any 'Bengali Sweet' ! All they sell is Gujarati snacks and sweets ? Very misleading ! All for business lol!Was very disappointed as I walked in one day and didn't find any sweet from my sweet Bengal. I walked out not trying anything else.

Yelp
Horrible customer service. Picked up lunch box to go with two vegetables, kadi ($1 extra), veg biryani($1 extra). Came home to find that while packing they took out one vegetable. When called the person at the counter, she said that she is just working there and it was a mistake. Seriously?? No apologies, instead her respond was it happens.

Yelp
I would not advise their sweets. I blew $20 on an assortment of sweets that were recommended to me by the counter staff and was thoroughly disappointed. They tasted stale and soaked in sugar syrup for way too long. In retrospect, I did notice that none of the customers dining there had any sweets and were just there for their dinner special - I should've taken the hint.
