The 45-Minute Power Lunch at Benihana Is a Killer Recession-Era Deal | Eater LA

"Launched a few weeks ago, the sub-$20 power lunch guarantees a "45-minute meal or else it’s free," pitched at office workers and work-from-home folks who want a satisfying break with some visual appeal. The restaurant was founded by Yunosuke Aoki in Tokyo in the 1940s and expanded to New York City in 1964 by his son Hiroaki "Rocky" Aoki (father of DJ Steve Aoki and actress Devon Aoki); it opened on Beverly Hills' Restaurant Row in 1971 and operated there until 2015, still maintains outposts in Torrance, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Encino, and Downey, and was acquired by One Group in February 2024 for $365 million. The reviewer, who grew up visiting for special occasions, remembers the "eatertainment" of a chef "throwing shrimp tails into his hat with a metal spatula or stacking onion rings into a mini-volcano and lighting it on fire," but emphasizes that the best part has always been the interplay of appetizers (a "profound onion soup" or crunchy iceberg lettuce salad with a tangy sesame dressing), mains, and sides—the sesame sauce for vegetables, the savory soy-ginger for meats, and the fried rice prepared on the steel teppanyaki counter made each bite distinct. At the tile-roofed Torrance outpost tucked behind office buildings and a big Korean grocery store, the space felt "long in the tooth," with low-flung, weathered wood counters; a chef arrived with a cart full of ingredients, sauces, and a clucking blue plastic rooster (ostensibly for entertaining children, which our table did not have). For $15.95 diners get soup or salad, pre-made fried rice, vegetables, and chicken, tofu, or shrimp (New York strip or filet mignon cost $19.95); the pre-made fried rice speeds service but, with the fried-rice finale skipped from the show, the reviewer felt "a slight hollowness," like paying just under $20 for a plate of vegetables, rice, and steak. Still, the reviewer enjoyed dipping the juicy steak into the ruddy ginger sauce and zucchini into the nutty, barely sweetened sesame sauce; chopsticks are effectively the only utensils needed because of the chefs' knifework. Timed on the reviewer’s phone, the main entrees were ready in 14 minutes, 30 seconds and the entire lunch finished in 35 minutes; the total cost was $31.79 (including a $4.50 soft drink, tax, and tip), and the reviewer says they would "gladly power lunch here again." The power lunch is available at all locations in Southern California and Arizona (including Phoenix Arena, Chandler, and Scottsdale) but is not served in Las Vegas at the Westgate or on the Strip. Comparatively, the offering undercuts many nearby lunch options (a chicken parm from Ggiata runs $16, a Cote-collaboration salad from Sweetgreen is $18) while still delivering the live-chef component." - Matthew Kang

I had spent my birthday here with my family and had an AMAZING experience. The waiteress and chef Dominic or Dom were spectacular and very kind to us! They gave us a wonderful time with their hospitality. The waitress took a photo for us and gave us a picture of it to keep! The food here is delicious, and the chef gave us all a good laugh! Dom our chef clocked it while he was cooking! 10/10 I wuld love to come here again with my family! It was egg-cellent!

We did something different this Thanksgiving and chose to eat at Benihana, and it was such a great decision! The food was incredibly delicious, from start to finish. Yes, it’s on the pricey side, but the quality and quantity of the food make it completely worth it. The experience, atmosphere, and service all came together for a fun and memorable holiday meal. We’ll definitely be doing this again!

Google
The food tasted good and it was entertaining having it prepared at the table; hadn't been here for a couple of years. However, there were extra charges we didn't anticipate, and going on a birthday didn't exactly have anything special aside from the coupon in an email, which made it the same cost as anOther location I'll keep going back to instead. We sat at a table with 2 other parties, it was fun, but we must've sat upwards of 20 minutes before we even received our drinks, and a group that was seated at least 10 minutes after us, had a chef at their table starting to cook dinner before we even received our drinks. And for the cost, I thought portion sizes could've been more impressive. Once home, one of us did not have a happy tummy-- not sure if it was from the restaurant or elsewhere.

Alex was so fun and brought so much energy cooked good good and made our night better than any other cooker could have done. Sam was a great server and always kept our drinks full and was kind

MAURY is the goat, he killed it big time. The food was amazing, service was amazing, atmosphere is always something to remember. Seriously Maury and Don made my big brothers birthday a night to remember. 🫴6-7🫴

We had such a fun hibachi experience with Maury! The food was delicious, fresh, and cooked perfectly right in front of us. Maury made it entertaining the whole time with great energy and amazing skills. Definitely a memorable night—I’d highly recommend it!

I had an amazing experience at Benihana in Chandler! The service was great and the food was delicious. Marco, the host, made us feel welcomed right away with his friendly and professional attitude. Our chef, Shrimp Shady (Alex), was absolutely the BEST! His energy, skill, and personality made the whole experience unforgettable. We will definitely be returning because of how great they both were. Overall, this is a fantastic place to go for great food, great vibes, and exceptional service! Highly recommend!

Google
The food was awesome! I ordered the seafood trio and got shrimp, calamari, and scallops, all cooked perfectly. Justin was an amazing chef! He had a wonderful sense of humor, an incredible sweet chili sauce with a great kick, and the bonus yakisoba was epic. Our server was quick with the drinks and refills so we never wanted for a drink when that chili sauce hit. She swooped in and out efficiently and allowed us to enjoy the show. The atmosphere was so fun. We got seated early with our reservation. We sat with another family who was also celebrating their mama’s birthday. It was on the same day as our mama’s birthday! As our meal was unfolding, the restaurant filled up with guests and the lobby was full of people waiting to get in. This is definitely a go-to restaurant!

Yelp
This review is only about the drinks. I ordered a Mai Tai. My friend who was with me ordered a specialty margarita. My Mai Tai was good in size, but it was made wrong. By wrong, I mean very wrong. I should have sent it back. I paid $17 for what looked and tasted a lot like orange juice with a touch of bitters. It might have had a shot of Rum in it, but if it did I could not taste it at all. I make Mai Tai's learned from a Hawaiian recipe. The key ingredients are: 1 to 1.5 oz of silver or spiced rum (coconut rum or add the coconut oil to it) 1/2 oz of Amaretto and 1/2 oz of lime juice, 2 to 3 shots of either Orange Juice or orange curacao (option to add a few oz of pineapple juice. I used both this and the orange) and a must is top it by floating 1.5 oz of a dark rum. I use Mahina Dark Rum. So, this Mai Tai was lacking a lot and not at all having the dark rum like the picture showed. My friend stated his was very low flavor and he did not taste the alcohol in it. Overpriced beverages which were poorly made. My food experience was rated separately.

Yelp
Tiny portions. Huge prices. You're paying for the "Show" But the price for what you get is a joke. This chain needs to rethink their portions because currently it's a rip off! We all left hungry!!

Yelp
I took my wife and nine other guests here for her birthday last night, and unfortunately, it was a huge mistake. The bill came to $491, which I would have gladly paid if the drinks were better, the food was worth it, and the service had been attentive. We arrived at 7:15 p.m., exactly as our reservation stated, but our chef didn't begin cooking until 9 p.m. In that time, the server rarely checked on us, and the quality of both the food and drinks fell far below expectations. I was hoping for a great experience since the Benihanas in Illinois have all been disappointing--but sadly, I learned the hard way that this location wasn't any better. STAY AWAY!!!

Yelp
I booked the reservation on OpenTable. Mentioned on the booking, at check in, with the waitress and with the chef that we were here for my SIL bday. We were seated immediately. Took about 10 min for our server to get to us. We placed the orders. The chef came by maybe 35 minutes after we had appetizers. He was very uneventful. Didn't do many tricks like a typical Benihana chef would and what I've seen from other tables. Food was good as usual but the service was less than desired. Waitress checked on us maybe 3x. Ordered 2 orders of salmon nigiri that didn't come until we were halfway through our meal. Never got a birthday song while everyone around us got it. Once waitress took the payment, never saw any waitstaff again. Probably would not come here again. I still tipped 18% and thanked the wait staff.

Yelp
10/2024 First visit. Located on the SW of the 101 and South Side of Chandler Blvd. Parking 5/5 We arrived for lunch service about 16 minutes before opening and grabbed a parking spot in front. There are plenty of shared parking spaces. Pro Tip Reservations a must. You're seated in groups at your Chef table. These tables are filled by reservations. I don't recall seeing any other options. They slipped us in on a table because we didn't have reservations. I think we lucked out with no shows. Ambiance 5/5 The entryway foyer and waiting areas were nice. The seating Grill table area was large with numerous tables accommodating 2-4 people per side. One side is reserved for your table Chef. Menu 5/5 There is a large selection from starters to Sushi to Chef wok prepared meals. Service 5/5 This experience is Chef driven. All ingredients are prepped in the kitchen and brought to the table for cooking. Our table went with the fried Rice with individual protein and vegetable options. The Chef also prepared a variety of grill proteins the group shared. Performance 5/5 Our Chef was wonderful. He displayed his cooking skills with humor making the experience memorable. The group table setting allowed for great conversation with strangers which I enjoyed thoroughly. Benihana is the Original Japanese Chef table setting Restaurant. Four Star rating because we dropped in for lunch while out shopping and first timers who didn't realize if we wanted the Chef table experience we needed a reservation to assure seating.

Yelp
Where do I start, cleanliness, service, food, it was all terrible. Let's start with the worst, bugs! We sat in the bar and had Nats flying all around us, old drink ware sitting out, dirty plates left out, just gross! I'm shocked if they have passed a health inspection. The food, was so slow, over cooked, and flavorless. Lastly the service, our waitress was clueless and could have cared less about her guests. I would tell everyone to go elsewhere!

Yelp
We don't eat here often but when we do it's quite a special treat! We had reservations for happy hour and requested seats in the bar area for an early and light dinner. The friendly bartender waited on us and gave great feedback to our questions. We got some pan fried spicy chicken gyoza, salmon avocado roll, chili ponzu yellowtail, and spicy crispy rice. We had just enough to satisfy and not be overly full. We'd recommend going to Benihana for a special occasion since it can be pricey to go and it is nice to enjoy something special every once in a while. We prefer to go before it gets crowded so we can enjoy the experience and not feel rushed. There's plenty of parking right outside the entrance. It is always clean and the friendly staff are all very attentive.

Yelp
We had a reservation for 6:15 which we arrived on time for. The waiting area was overcrowded. After 20 mins of waiting I chatted with other people waiting and we all had the same story. Hostess didn't know anything. The manager finally sat us and didn't seem to care when we told him we waited 46 minutes to be sat. I don't think Benihana would save a table for a customer for 46 minutes. Our server didn't know how to do his job and he seemed totally fine with that. The chef took a long time to arrive and start cooking. Once he finally showed up had to keep stopping and getting stuff because our server messed up the order. Food was very salty. You don't need to pour salt on seafood and ruin a lobster tail. The place was dirty. The mens room was gross and the doorhandles was falling off. We realized after we left the server forgot to give us the included tea. We didn't leave until after 9:00. Health Department needs to shut this place down. None of us in our party of 10 will ever be back.

Nancy G.

Yelp
Sad to see how far this place has fallen. Upon entering & waiting for our table, I started noticing how filthy the place was. Even the front desk had a layer of dust away from the side of the greeter. See the photos to see the filth that was apparent from the waiting area. I suggest a manager go sit there & open their eyes! The front area also needed a layer of paint on the furniture & desk which was quite scratched & missing chunks of paint. I wanted to leave because I can't believe the kitchen looks much better, but it was somebodys birthday. Food was good, but I will never go there again after it being a favorite special occasion place. Our meal for two was more than $150 before tip(only one drink & no appetizers). For that money we can go to a clean, upscale meal many places.

Yelp
Enjoyed a delicious and memorable dinner tonight at Benihana Chandler, all thanks to K.C., our talented and personable hibachi chef! Though the restaurant was busier than usual for a Wednesday evening, due to numerous graduation celebrations, our party of 7 was seated quickly and on-time for our 5:30pm reservation. Drink orders were promptly taken followed by our dinner orders, with plenty of help from our informative and helpful server (I wish I caught her name!) Next up, the star of the show...K.C. All the way from the island of Oahu, he brings an exciting new experience to the table. Being seasoned hibachi diners, we've seen all of the classic "tricks" on the grill. *yawn* It was a refreshing change from the norm with K.C. preparing our meal. You'll have to see for yourself, next time you're dining at this location! Not only was he fun, skilled, and downright hilarious, he took the time to acknowledge and customize our dinners due to a couple of food allergies in our group. Our food was delicious and cooked to perfection! It's always appreciated when you get an entertaining and engaging chef when out for teppanyaki/hibachi...and K.C. nailed it. NAILED IT, I tell you! Thank you for helping us celebrate, K.C.! Hope to see you again soon.

Yelp
Everyone is so friendly and work efficiently with the customers. Families and celebrations were all around. Your drink and good order is taken. Thank you gang for service with a friendly smile. Our Chef Hong was entertaining. The hibachi is one of many Japanese type dishes served. The hibachi meals are 5 or 6 courses ( soup, salad, entree with fried or steamed rice, a vegetable and desert. Price averages about $60 with one cocktail. It is not 100% authentic, but filling. I celebrated a family birthday so my focus was elsewhere rather than pictures. I had fun laughing and talking.

Yelp
This restaurant over the years has deteriorated traumatically. It is now very, very noisy over crowded. The food is subpar.

Yelp
After an awful experience at Benihana, I messaged corporate of our experience so they could address it but after a week of waiting, I got zero response back so it's apparent they don't care. My husband and I visited the Chandler Arizona Benihana location on Saturday 11/1/25 and had reservations for a party of 10. My husband ordered a sake and a beer and when he finished his beer, he felt something hard in his mouth. Luckily, he pulled it out and didn't swallow what was a piece of sharp GLASS. We flagged down the manager, Paul, and suggested he check their glassware and showed him the piece of glass. He said they were too busy and he couldn't possibly check all the glassware in the restaurant and nonchalantly just took the glass away. We were shocked at his response and mentioned it to our server, Starley, who said "oh a bunch of glasses just broke in the back. It must have been from that!" Paul did not check on our table once during our entire visit. At the end of the night, we saw this manager outside and he said he was going to comp the beer that had glass in it but he "noticed we didn't pay for our meal". Our table had 4 split checks and we paid $285 for my husband and myself--our entire bill was around $1000 so while it's regardless who paid (which we did), a drink with glass in it should be comped. Other things to note: 1. The bathrooms were disgusting. No TP, toilet seat covers all over the floors, trash overflowing, etc. 2. They offer you steamed or fried rice without telling you there is an $8 upcharge for fried rice. They also say "chicken or steak?" without saying there is a $23 upcharge for steak. 9 out of 10 of us chose fried rice and two chose steak so we had around $115 in upcharges for fried rice. It's fine if they disclose but they purposefully don't. 3. It's so smokey in the restaurant when it's busy that it's hard to breathe. We will never return to Benihana. It's overpriced and they obviously don't care about the safety of their guests.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Bad food, smelly and loud restaurant, and broken glass in a beverage! My husband and I joined our family at Benihana on Saturday night for our nephew's birthday celebration. On a high level, the restaurant is incredibly loud and we could really only talk to the person sitting next to us. At times, the smell of smoke was horrible.... So bad, our entire closet reeked the next day before washing the clothes we had worn to the restaurant. My nephew's girlfriend told the waitress that she was gluten free. When the soup came out, they gave her the same soup as everyone else which was not gluten free. Wait.... It gets better. My brother in law ordered a beer and a drink (not sure exactly what the alcoholic beverage was). When he got to the bottom of the drink and was about to take the last gulp, he found a shard of glass in his mouth. Thank goodness he felt it before swallowing! He pulled it out and told our cook. The cook and the waitress seemed genuinely concerned and called the manager, Paul, over to our table. We were told by the waitress that a bunch of glass had broken in the back and that's where it came from. Our waitress said to the manager that they should check the rest of the glasses. The manager proceeded to say "they are way too busy and he doesn't have time to check all of the glassware". Paul barely showed concern. He took the glass, along with the shard of broken glass and walked away. The food was mediocre at best and the bill for the two of us (2 meals, 2 sodas and 1 glass of wine) was $150 before tip. Soooo not worth that. My sister wrote to Benihana corporate on Sunday, the day after this happened and they have yet to respond. Finding glass in your drink is NOT ok and the way it was handled was beyond inappropriate and inadequate. This situation was dangerous. I cannot imagine what would have happened if he had accidentally swallowed that glass. The manager having zero concern to appropriately handle the situation and zero concern for the safety of their customers is utterly disgusting. I would not visit this establishment again if you paid me to do so.

Yelp
We had a reservation at 7:15 PM for a birthday celebration and didn't get seated at a grill or see a chef until 9:00 PM. That's nearly two hours of waiting, despite having a reservation. Completely unacceptable. To be fair, our server Sara was great -- friendly, attentive, and clearly doing her best. But the overall experience felt extremely disorganized and frustrating. For a place like Benihana, especially when celebrating a special occasion, you expect better timing and service coordination. By the time our chef came out, we were all too hungry and annoyed to enjoy the show. Definitely not the birthday dinner we were hoping for. Not sure I'd return anytime soon.

Brian J.

Yelp
45 minutes of waiting with a reservation. Hostess was overwhelmed and not enough chefs. Awful service.

Yelp
What strange experience! Hubby and I decided to finally use the $30 birthday coupon that was going to expire in a couple days. Didn't feel like having teppanyaki so we sat at the bar/dining area to get some sushi. We went around 5PM and there was just one other person sitting at the bar. I actually counted and there were 8 employees including the 3 cooks. It was so very strange to watch 3 employees in particular chit chatting with each other and on their phones the entire time. I've never seen anything like this at other restaurants! Hubby commented apparently the manager doesn't care as he's walked by several times. At the end of our meal, the manager was by our table so against hubby's wishes, I asked him if he was the manager. He replied he was one of them. I told him about his employees on their cell phones and chatting instead of working and he replied that they do use their phones a lot! He then corrected himself and stated the managers do use their phones. I told him I have never seen anything like it and I can't believe they're still in business. He then stated he's only been working here for 2 months and it's definitely the most laid back place he has worked at!! Wow just wow. Now, about the food: we ordered the nigiri assortment $32 which came with 10 pieces of nigiri with miso soup and salad. The nigiri were very small with a lot more rice than fish, and the taste was meh. Salad was your average Asian salad with ginger dressing. The miso soup was lukewarm and the seaweed was not fully cooked. Very disappointing. Spicy tuna roll $12.50 was mediocre and hubby said I can make much better. Chili ponzu yellowtail roll $20 was just ok as well. For the food they offer, the prices are way too high. Overpriced menu, meh food and apathetic employees...definitely don't recommend and this is our last time here. There are so many better options around here.

Been on hold for 32 mins, ordered online and just wanted to change my sushi to a soy paper. Picking up the food now. Just make it an option online!

Yelp
We made a reservation for this place during Restaurant Week to give it another shot for the famous hibachi experience from this franchise. Despite having a reservation on a weeknight, it took almost an hour to seat our party, even as they let other customers go ahead of ours. The restaurant was loud, the hosts weren't welcoming and clearly undertrained and overwhelmed with the dinner rush. After we were finally seated at the table, it took 30 minutes for our server to take orders and deliver drinks and another hour before the hibachi chef began cooking. Although he was as friendly as he could be, his novice skill level was obvious. He dropped his utensils several times, flicked food accidentally all over the place, and was quite slow getting all the table's order cooked. He could not remember anyone's orders for the life of him. He literally flicked oil at my husband and onto his shirt while cooking. The food was as also not well-seasoned and really tasted sub-par. Our dinner from start to finish took over 3 hours before we left. My family was getting quite hangry just waiting to finally eat. This isn't our first time with a poor experience at this restaurant location. I will certainly not be returning and I would caution you to lower your expectations of what to expect when paying for a $300 meal for a family. Lots of better hibachi and teppenyaki restaurants around to deliver a much better experience.

Yelp
I used to come here at least once a month for over 10 years. However, prices have gone up and quality has gone down. Roaches in waiting area, grease dripping from vents, and they use a third party agency to place to-go orders.

Yelp
We had a reservation for dinner on Father's Day at 5:45 PM. We were told they were "backed up" and there was a 45 minute wait. That 45 minute wait turned into an hour and 20 minutes, then another 30 minutes until the chef finally reached our table. I know it was busy due to the holiday, but that long of a wait is unacceptable. The food was okay and there was plenty of it, but the show by the chef is the same one they've done for years. I was a little bored with it (maybe because I was annoyed at the wait), but other members of our party seemed to enjoy it. The server was gracious and fairly quick with drink refills and apologized several times for the long wait. Bottom line? It will probably be a long time before I go back and definitely not on a holiday.

Yelp
We came to Benihana for the Veteran's day special. We made a reservation for 12:30. Walked into absolute chaos! No hostess at the station and waited about 10 minutes to let her know we had arrived. We were seated an hour and 5 mins after our reservation time. No apology was given. Everyone there was waiting and the staff was unapologetic and rude. This is not my first experience of waiting well beyond my reservation time at this location. If offering a special, especially for Veterans who deserve to be treated special on this day, you think they would have adequate staff or take fewer reservations to accommodate the staff they do have. Seeing Veterans who are frustrated who are there to relax and enjoy the day they have earned is infuriating. If you don't have the staff either make it reservation only or just close the doors if you cant offer the best service for those who deserve it. Crappy service is worse than not being open. Nothing makes veterans more angry than waiting! It makes me want to never return to a Benihana's again.

Yelp
We come to Benihana several times a year and it is always a delicious treat. We had a chef named Danny this time and the service was outstanding. The food was delicious and plentiful. The scallops are always a good choice and they did not disappoint this time. His service was excellent and our waitress was excellent as well. If you like hibachi the Chandler Benihana is a must. Risa is an excellent waitress. If you get her and Danny as a team you will be amazed.

Yelp
I love the experience of Benihana. Every Christmas I take my gf there for our special dinner. But the last 2 years we've had their "second string" chefs. And this year 12/20/2024 we waited an hour just to get our chef. The waiter forgot our appetizer... the whole evening was less than stellar. When dropping $200 I'd like to get a better experience. Regardless I tipped very well because 90% of the time it's not the chef or server's fault. Not sure l'll gamble on another visit. Disappointed

David L.

Yelp
Took my boys here for my bday. We expected a fun time and a nice hibachi show. It was totally lame and a waste of money. Hit the cooktop a few times with the metal spatchulas and did one fire onion only after we practically begged at the end. $250 for 3 adults and 2 kids. Total waste...

Marga F.

Yelp
Food was good quality and healthy portions. Chef was entertaining. Restaurant wasn't too loud. Overall good. Prices still a bit too high for family dinner. Would be great for date night.

Ria M.

Yelp
I will not go back due to the insane inflation in pricing. We typically go to kasai which is better food, environment, and apparently now way better pricing than Benihana. They charged $40 for all our kids meals with fried rice and a drink. Kasai is $22 for filet, drink included, plus dole whip for dessert. 3 kids and two adult New York strip teppanyaki. No alcohol. $250. Could have gone to a high line steakhouse. $7.50 up charge for fried rice. Kasai comes with fried rice included. Waitress was rude, basically baited us into all getting fried rice and the other people in our party. We had been here plenty of times in the past and never got charged like this. Will not be going back. Teppanyaki guy was cool but that's about the only thing good I have to say. Bathroom smelled terrible as well.

Yelp
My experience was 10/10. We had a reservation and only had to wait about 10 min after arriving which was nice. Our waitress Megan was very attentive, she remembered I didn't want dressing on my salad which is always forgotten previous visits. She was friendly and made us feel welcome and checked on us enough. Our chef Dominic made sure to keep us entertained the entire time! He was very funny and our food was delicious. He made sure we were pleased with it, and asked for feedback on how the food tasted. I would def come back all the time if I knew I would be getting both Dominic and Megan cooking and waitressing.

Yelp
This place gets worse everytime I come. Quality of the food, temperature of the food and taste. If you are in a group of 3 or less prepare to be ignored and have portions of your food given to larger parties. My meal came with a dessert which I wasn't even offered. I ordered a bottle of Rosé which was warm. I have better hibachi at a food truck lately.

Yelp
If you're looking for dinner and a show, look no further than Benihana - and be sure to ask for Chef KC! He was absolutely amazing and brought a whole new level of energy and creativity to the table. I've been to many teppanyaki-style dinners before, but Chef KC introduced food tricks I've never seen before. From the "Flying Dragon" to the "Egg Roll" and even a nostalgic "Pac-Man" routine, he kept us laughing, clapping, and fully entertained. At one point, he sent seasonings flying behind his back with pinpoint accuracy - it was like watching a culinary ninja in action! Each move was flawless, the timing was perfect, and the food? Delicious. Everything was cooked just right and bursting with flavor. Chef KC turned an ordinary dinner into an unforgettable experience. 10/10 - can't wait to come back for more!

Yelp
Visited this location tonight, October 15th at 9 pm and the female employee who was stationed at the bar but was responsible for serving me and another couple, had terrible customer service. While we were there, she spent her entire time closing the bar station and never gave us napkins until I asked which was about 25 minutes into receiving our plate (no fried rice yet). To add on to her horrible service, the nice chef called out our fried rice order TWICE under the name "Shay" because she didn't serve it to us, and since we sat in front of the chefs, he probably noticed I wasn't eating until I received the fried rice so he kindly walked over to us, apologized (he didn't need to, our server did), and handed us our fried rice. As a cherry on top of her shitty service, we ordered and received our sushi, complimentary soup and salad, which she didn't clear out of our way after passing by us several times to tend to other tasks than us, her table! So yes, we ate at the tiny square table uncomfortably because dishes weren't cleared. It wasn't until the end of our dinner that she became proactive but it was too late and never once did she apologize for her lack of service. Please fire this young lady or retrain her because a service like that in a semi high end restaurant has no place for this behavior especially when tip is involved. Thank you. & to Shay, the name of our possible server, bless my partner's heart for still leaving a tip for you or however the tip is split because if it weren't for customers like us, to still extend grace, your bills and any extra living expenses wouldn't be paid. Do better, sheesh.

Yelp
Actually this was the first time we had been to this restaurant. They have a incredible birthday offer that you can use Monday through Thursdays the month of your birthday. Sign up for the birthday club and they will give you a $30 off coupon. The restaurant was super busy there was a Thursday evening. I can't believe money times the waiters had to sing Happy Birthday during the time we were there. Restaurant is very clean and the staff is friendly. Always exciting and fun to watch the chefs prepare the food and interact with the tables so we had a great time. The food was delicious. A little pricey but you're getting entertainment for the cost of the meal too so it's worth it.

Yelp
Horrible service I have waited for over two hours and all I've gotten were drinks. This is ridiculous.

Yelp
Service and ambiance were exactly what you paid for. Food on the other hand is very inflated for the quality. But all in all, you paid for the nostalgia. One thing I did enjoy that was different from any Teppanyaki is there is a better taste in the ginger sauce and mushrooms is a nice touch. It's not deserving of the 3 stars it's getting. Overall, it's in line with every other teppan you got and those are all 4 stars. 5 stars if the ingredients are elevated like Angus, Wagyu, Prime.

Yelp
Visited Benihana over holiday break because I was missing hibachi from back home. We arrived at the restaurant right as it opened so there were not a lot of people yet but they were able to get us immediately sat at a hibachi table. We waited about 15 minutes before our chef came after our orders were placed. Our chef was extremely personable and very funny. He made sure to talk to everyone at the table and catered to the needs of helps customers. The ambiance of the restaurant was a little outdated and stale. It didn't feel like a fun hibachi restaurant I was used to. The silverware was slightly dirty and the Sprite tasted like dirty ice. The food was ok not delicious enough to come back again but it wasn't the worst. It just tasted slightly off and not as fresh as I was expecting.

Yelp
We had a reservation that we set up earlier in the week and still had to wait 20 min to be seated. Then, it took a VERY along time to get any drinks or the starters. We had to wait for two other people to finish their apps before they gave us the salad and soup. Best part of the night was our chef who was hilarious and very interactive. Dominic was so great and a lot of fun. He made the special occasion very special. Once dinner was over, we waited about another 15 minutes before we were given our check and another 10 to pay. It was so awkward and boring. Oh, my friend ordered the Filet mignon but was given the flank and still had to pay for the filet mignon- watch your bill. Anyway, the food was good and our chef was great. Our waiter and all of the wait time needs to be addressed.

Yelp
Pretty solid overall but I'm kind of bummed and i can't see not mention that there is no warning that the fried rice is an extra $8 compared to steamed rice. I thought i was basically getting asked if I want my eggs scrambled or fried ("do you want steamed or fried rice?"). No warning whatsoever that it'd be an extra $8. You get charged $8 which is the same price as ordering a full side of fried rice. If you do that and get the fried rice, you don't get any of the steamed rice that comes with the meal I discovered. Quite a naughty bait and switch they have with the rice. Not sure if this is common knowledge but heads up for any rookies out there.

Yelp
We recently went to Benihana for my son's 14th birthday- what a great choice!! Chef Alex "Shrimp Shady" was amazing and his jokes did not disappoint. Would highly recommend for that special occasion!!

Yelp
I went to Benihana with my boyfriend on a celebratory date, arriving at around 5pm. We were immediately sat in the lounge area, which is what I wanted, and ordered off the Happy Hour menu. We got the crunchy shrimp roll, chili shrimp roll, and wagyu burger and fries (not pictured because we ate it so fast!). the total for these three items was only $30! All of the food was delicious, and the burger was hot and fresh, so no notes of criticism from me. Our server Maxine (sorry if I misspelled your name) was excellent. Charming and polite service and helped us decipher the menu. She even apologized for the wait time on our burger, which was not long at all IMO. The GM was out on the floor interacting with other guests and was also very friendly and helpful. This Benihana made our night, and I will 100% be coming back to celebrate there again soon.

Yelp
First off I love Benihana. I love the art of food being prepared. I love the sights and sounds of the restaurant . I love the experience Benihana as a whole gives to customers. I have been visiting Benihana restaurants since I was a teenager. My experience at this particular restaurant was not my favorite. Mom and I went for lunch and chose to sit in the lounge. Seth was our server. When we sat down he had two tables in the lounge. Seth's attitude and service should be reconsidered if he's going to work in the service industry. Yikes that guy was horrible. Is he new? Was he having a bad day? Did he not like that he had an additional table on top of being behind the bar? Who knows but what I do know is he was no good. The food was not great. We ordered the lunch specials. Me steak and chicken. Mom shrimp and yakisoba. We were told it came with fried rice and do we want to add chicken. I think we were both thinking we had to get the fried rice and not white rice so we said no to the fried rice with no chicken but in hindsight I'm wondering why I didn't speak up about having white rice. I don't know, the whole experience was weird. When we got our food we didn't have utensils so after he put our plates down we had to sit and wait for him to bring us some while our food sat there and got cold. Also mom asked for soy sauce that never came. I want to say we should have been given water from the get go but maybe we needed to ask for that too. ‍ The fried rice was spicy. I've never had spicy fried rice but I guess the chef in the lounge was heavy on the pepper. That's what we get for eating in the lounge. As far as the ambiance, the table of 3 women next to us seemed pretty chill and even they seemed to be in question of his attitude when he came back and forth to their table. The table behind us, a couple seemed a bit upset with their service and Seth didn't look happy then either. We could barely hear Seth when he did come to the table and I don't remember it being loud in the lounge so he needs to speak up and put a smile on his face and take him out of there. Lunch is not as crazy as dinner service I imagine so maybe he was just having a bad day and that's okay but needless to say it put a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be back to the Chandler Benihana.

Yelp
What a great way to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. She has never been so we picked a time when her kids were in school so she could unwind and celebrate her special day! Our chef was fun and entertaining! Food was great and the experience even better. Thanks for a great time, Benihana's!!! Happy eating

Yelp
Danny and Amy were great! Attentive, funny, and entertaining! My daughter loved it and I appreciated that they took care of my shellfish allergy with caution
