Food Hall Benning Market Is Slated to Open East of the Anacostia River | Eater DC

"I'm reporting that Neighborhood Development Co. plans to open an 11,200-square-foot food hall called Benning Market at 3451 Benning Road NE this fall; it's envisioned as a Union Market–style collection of food stalls, with a brewery or co-working space possibly in the mix. The project has raised $191,000 on crowdfunding site Small Change, meeting its minimum goal, and CEO Adrian Washington says he sees the area as an up-and-coming neighborhood with a strong base of middle-class homeowners but few retail options—calling it a food desert." - Adele Chapin

This is our neighborhood market, and we find it very convenient. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The selection is pretty broad considering the smallish size. I would describe it as somewhere between a convenience store and a full supermarket. I saw the store owner struggling to remove the drug addicts outside of the store. Good luck to him!

Are there always people just hanging around outside the store? Sure. Have I ever been bothered by any of them at any point for even one second, on any occasion shopping here? No, never, not at all not once. So for all the other reviews I have to wonder what your problem with loitering is?🤷🏼‍♂️ This is my new fav 24 hour store.

It's open 24 hours so that makes it convenient on the way to work or school, but there are some major down sides that I could name. There is a problem with drug dealers and drug addicts outside of the store, most of whom use the outside walls as bathrooms. There might be throw up on the sidewalk most days or urine on a wall or tree. Police frequently visit this store because of disturbances with customers and loiters. So if you can brave through all that then hey this is the store for you.

This little grocery has a little bit of everything and almost all the essential for that last minute stop-off to get a forgotten dinner ingredient. All the clerks are polite, helpful and patient, happy to help you find what you need. They will order items for you if not in stock, and are a cornerstone of the Rosedale neighborhood.

Open 24 -7 looks like you need to clutch your pearls but for the most part harmless. Like any where be safe but go .

I go to Benning Market & Dollar Store primary to use the Bitcoin machine that is located at the front of the store. The store is well stocked ranging from candy, chips, sodas and essential household products too.

Yea kinda ratchety with loiterers nearby, like the other reviews say... but they are generally nice to me when I go inside and decent selection for this type of store 🤷🏾‍♀️

It's a great convenience store for all 24/7 but, to many people hanging around the neighborhood store that's not good...
