Bent Shovel Brewing - Pub & Beer Garden

The inside has been brought back to life and better than ever. Since we learned bent shovel reopened the inside, we have been there 4 times in two weeks! We love this pace and the team who runs it. The pizza is delicious and so is the beer. We have tried a different pizza each time. Never disappointed. Come check out the pizza and great company!

As others note, it is just a weekend beer garden and a couple small food vendors. No longer the full restaurant. But don't pass this up, if you find yourself out cruising this scenic road! We stopped on a Sunday afternoon: the atmosphere was lively yet relaxed; the beer was good (recommend the dark lager!); there were games; everyone was friendly. A great place to plan a pitstop or intentional time with friends.

Great casual experience. Very friendly staff. Good food and beverage. Fun atmosphere. Dog friendly. Met some great people and had a great time. We definitely recommend a visit.

Only pizza. Only you don't know that it's only pizza till after you decide what you would like from their online menu. Which is not current as of 11.29.2025 which the gentleman was like" I don't know where you saw that menu at but that's not our menu for 5years. " no QR code to scan when you first come in, all that's said is to order at bar. So if there's a line you don't know what you want to you get to the bar. Very confusing for the guest time here. We will have to come back when we don't have a full crowd with us. They can only cook two 12inch pizzas at a time. So not great if you have a big crowd that's hungry. The pool tables are decent for the teens. Looks like they have love music some nights.

We used to love this place, but the owner Rick was so rude to us on our last visit that we'll never be back. His attitude seemed to come naturally, so I'm sure other customers have experienced it too. The cherry on top of waiting 70 minutes for a pizza was Rick (probably intentionally) burning it. If you hate people, get out of the hospitality business. Shame because his wife Shelly is so nice.

Bent Shovel is a local brewery serving up amazing beer and legit pizza in the beer garden. Sit around the fire and have a chat with a stranger. Drink beer and linger.

This beer garden is tempting to pull into, do it! The beer is great the people are friendly and the view is insane. Very relaxing spot to enjoy a pint after a hike or fishing.

This place has so much potential. The food and service were ok. They have a great outdoor seating area but have a limited menu that you can get out there. If you want something more you have to call the restaurant 50 yards away and order your food to go. If they had full service outside and worked on the quality of their food this could be a 5 star establishment.

Talk about the perfect ambiance! Stopped here on my way home Milo McIver State Park. Shaded, surrounded by trees, and a beautiful view of Mt. Hood. Beer was decent and pleasantly surprised by the pizza! Thin crust, soft and chewy, great flavor. We had the opportunity to meet the owner, who was super cool and shared some of the history on how the brewery came to be.

Hidden gem. Like the newly opened indoors. Good beer, excellent pizza and free pool tables. Family friendly, but prefer to go when less busy. Too many people not watching their children when it gets busy.

3-Stars = A-Okay! We met some friends here that live in the area for lunch & a beer. They're located out in the country, not far from Milo McIver State Park. I didn't realize only the beer garden section is open, and the indoor pub seems to only be open for special events & you can rent it out for a private party. Maybe the inside is open in the Winter? I'm not sure. From their website I gather they only have food on certain days, and sometimes they have their own pizza and other days they might have a food truck there. The lady working the taps and the guy making the pizzas were both very nice. They have a variety of their own beers on tap along with some guest taps & hard cider, and non-alcoholic options. The beer garden has a variety of seating, both uncovered and covered with tents (with heaters), surrounded by huge pine trees. One end of the beer garden has a glorious view of Mt. Hood. Two reasons I'm not giving them a higher rating: -They allow smoking throughout the beer garden, with signs on all the tables for smokers to please be considerate of the other patrons. I'm not really sure how that's possible as smoke blows all over, and I certainly wouldn't want to be the person to ask a smoker that's had a few beers to move or put it out. Thankfully a smoker didn't show up until closer to when we were going to leave. It would be better if they had a designated smoking section somewhere out back or on the far side of the parking lot. -We were there catching up with friends we only see once or twice a year, so we were there a long time enjoying our lunch, drinking beverages & chatting. There's also a country market store attached to the brewery building & there are signs indicating parking is for market/brewery customers only. When we went to leave there were printed notes on our cars saying parking is only for customers and the vehicle is subject to being towed if not moved. ?? We were customers. No employee ever once came to the beer garden to ask if the owners of our vehicles were there. I realize we were there a few hours, but we were customers. Thank goodness they didn't tow our cars because where we were sitting we couldn't see our cars & would have had no idea. There was also a big disc golf tournament being held at the state park down the road & they had designated parking for that out back as they were a pickup location for the free shuttle for that event, so I understand they were being extra vigilant as to the parking situation, but still an employee should have come & checked the beer garden, as they weren't very busy on a Friday mid-afternoon.

This place is run by highly irresponsible people who lie to protect their old men/boys club. Their beer is mediocre and over priced. Hopefully some decent owners will buy them out and it will get back to being a pleasant place to have a relaxing beverage as it used to be in the past.

Can't go wrong going on nice summer day. The trees provide plenty of shade, it's spread out so not cramped with others, and also some tents if needed. Beers were all really well done. Didn't try any of the food cart. Service was nice and friendly. Only issues are the taster tray is horribly done using the small plastic cups so can spill a decent amount while walking (using small goblets would be better). Also all their beers come in single use plastic cups (no differing trash vs recycle either) so would be nice to see something reusable especially when considering they wouldn't have their space if not respecting nature.

Was looking for a quick bite to eat on the way back from hiking. Wasn't expecting to find many vegan options but dang the Weggie (veggie) pizza without mozzarella rocked. I could eat a plate of just the crust, the dough is fantastic. Plus, having chili oil and red pepper flakes on the side made it even better. +1 for the Uncle Johann lager, too. Nice outdoor seating, plenty of space on picnic benches overlooking the mountain.

Fantastic owners! Have been long time customers of tasty beers Rick brews up. Happy they have the BBQ going one weekend and Pizza the next. Like a little oasis in rural Clackamas county. Great place to meet friends and catch up in the summer or bundle up by the fire on a drizzly day. Lots of tables to spread out and enjoy a frosty one! Cheers. And keep brewing!!

This is the third time we've stopped in here and left disappointed. First time we ended up leaving without even ordering because our server never came back to take our orders. The 4 of us waited about 20 minutes, in a mostly empty restaurant, and decided to leave. Second time it took a very, very, long time to get our order taken, for the food to arrive and to find our server to get the bill. In total we sat for over an hour and a half. This time, on a Friday evening, the restaurant was nearly empty, besides a few people sitting at the bar. The menu now has just a variety of sandwiches and burgers. We did try the clam chowder. It's watery and bland. The sandwiches are basic bar quality. They were served with tots that were over cooked. We noticed there's outdoor seating with a bar too. It looks nice but on a rainy Oregon day we all wanted to sit inside. Although it's located close to us it's just not a place for us. There's too many good food places nearby, with friendly service, to keep coming back to a place that's no very good.

I love this place. The ambiance, the friendly staff and patrons. Wonderful. Very kid friendly. Pizza was delicious. Snacks were on point.

I want to like this place, but just can't... Bummer since the girlfriend lives less than a mile away. Beers are just not that good. Tried their Pale Ale which was suggested since "it's been super popular" One of the most mediocre Pales I've ever had. Same for all the other beers I've tried here in the last 18 months. Beer garden is awesome and outdoor grill food is good! Staff is very nice and always pleasant and personable, but beers just don't cut it. And never a good idea to serve beer in plastic, outside or not!

Love the setting, didn't love the beers but I'm kind of partial to New England ipa which they didn't really have (I know I'm in the wrong part of the country). The food was really good though and loved just sitting there under these huge trees with twinkle lights!

Update as of February 2024 the restaurant is closed and for Sale /Lease. The beer garden is only open weekends.

Such a friendly place! Love that they have covered and open spaces. They also are dog friendly! Our beer was delicious and we were lucky enough to be there when the Cajun food truck was serving. The food was delicious and we will be back!

One of the coolest country breweries ever. Sit among the tall pacific pines, maybe by the campfire and enjoy excellent selection of beers.

We went here after a hike and we liked this place. Straight forward, good rose wine, and they had good food. Great service too. I especially appreciated their salads too. Thank u got that! We were happy overall and we'd come back! Great view of Mount Hood here too!

We had Fun meeting up with friends. Lit up outdoor drinking, corn hole and fire pit to enjoy. Great beer options and my mom loves her sweatshirt.

It is 90 degrees out and after spending the day on the lake, we wanted a cold beer. We came here and were NOT disappointed. We went in the tavern side and were served by Adriana. She is a sweetheart and provided awesome service. She steered me to the Joe IPA which went down quickly I needed another. We ordered the pizza logs as an appetizer which were very tasty. We got the last order of them. I thought they would be breaded but had more of a wonton exterior. Loved them. 5 stars. We first spotted this place on our way to the campsite and the parking lot was busting out with cars. That was our bait to come back. There is a huge outside area that looked like a great place to hang out, but we opted for air conditioning in the 90 degree weather Oh... and I had a $1 whiskey black cherry Jell-O shot which was fun and good. We were talking to some other customers, very friendly place, and they had the Sunday special of Chicken and Dumplings. Both couples raved how good it was. They were monster portions. We had other dinner plans or we would have ordered. Thank you Adriana for the awesome experience.

We often used stop here (at the Viewpoint) after paddling on Estacada Lake for berry cobbler and a bit to eat. 5 of us stopped on Tuesday 8-9 for our usual cobbler and food. 1. the service was awful! One person trying to tend bar, heat the cobbler, and wait on tables...really not acceptable and not what we are use to at this establishment! 2. There is not vegan option on the food menus outside of salad...I am not a vegan, but some of our group was, they were hungry and had to settle for frys...also not acceptable! 3. We were served our food before our beverages, water and beverage did not come until AFTER we were done eating....double not acceptable! I get that staffing is a problem these days and asking this one person to do it all was completely unfair to her, but really, water and beverages ALWAYS come before you serve the food. I like that they have expanded the dining room into the bar at the Viewpoint; however in my 71 year old estimation I would never called the Viewpoint a "dive", a bit tired but not a dive. Miss the good selection of food that use to be offered and the good service.

The area on the side of restaurant where you can have a beer and sit around the fire pits is awesome. Highly recommend going there and having a pint. Food, I'm sorry to say, was not good imo but there is always a crowd in the restaurant so other people seem to like it.

Best grilled cheese and tomato Bisque soup and prime rib dips ever!!!! Best ever. The chicken strips my 6 year old granddaughter absolutely loves!!! And she is an expert

Oh. man. Bent Shovel has really stepped it up since taking over the Viewpoint. The new menu is top notch. I took my son and we split shishitos, nachos, steak frites, and the donut holes. Every dish was a hit, and could hold its own amongst its "upscale" Portland counterparts. I'm so happy to have this level of food quality so close to home, reasonably priced, and in a beautiful setting which improves with every visit. Keep it up!

We loved the Viewpoint! When the new owners took over and changed it to Bent Shovel, we thought we would give it a try for my Dad's 80th birthday. I called and asked how long the wait was for 9 people. She said that the wait wouldn't be too long, but that she was the only one there and service may not be that good. We decided to go anyway. The food seemed okay, but there was a long hair in my dad's food. She stilled charged us for the meal, didn't even offer to make it free. She acted offended when my dad showed her. She was very rude about it. Paid way too much for mediocre food, poor service, and a hair!!! Won't be coming here again!

Great atmosphere and service. Thought the beers were just ok. The layout is really nice with the heated dog friendly tents and 2 fire pits!!! They have brauts and pulled pork sandwiches to purchase. You can also order off a full menu at the restaurant next door. Really nice staff. This will be a destination place for me.

We went there on Saturday night, got there around 6 PM they were setting up for live country band. Place was pretty crowded when we got there and we were warned that there might be a wait time to place orders the bartender was Brooke she was fantastic she actually got to us right away. Throughout our time there we were attended by multiple waitresses that asked if we were doing OK. The food was quality we had smoked meat nachos and the Blistered Shishito peppers and the garlic Parmesan fries everything was hot when it came out. I just want to emphasize that this was such a packed night they were super busy we got seated right away and the bartender Brooke was awesome we also observed all of their patrons getting well attended by their waitresses. I wish I knew everybody's name that came by to ask how we were doing because they all deserve accolades. Bent shovel / your doing a great job. The effort and your staff are awesome keep up the good work we will make this a regular-stop xoxo

This used to be called viewpoint. This restaurant used to have the BEST wait staff. When the new owners came in they tried to make it like mcmenamins. Hired all new people, with bad customer service. They tore down the wall to the bar and made it one big room. Huge disappointment. Used to be a cool local hangout. Now you wait an hour+ for service. No longer a local hangout. Bummer.

I love the bent shovel people who own this place now... I gotta be honest though. We were drinking in the beer garden today and we ordered our food from the viewpoint. They said 10-15 minutes we waited 20 minutes then my son and I walked over to pick it up. They printed the receipt when we showed up, asked if that was what we ordered we said yes then they walked the receipt back to the chef obviously to start making our food. We were told it was almost ready immediately after tipping 25%. We sat there for 30 more minutes and waited for them to make our food while my wife watched our beer get warm next door. 30 minutes later our food comes out with none of the sauces we ordered over the phone, no utensils, no napkins, the order was right? The fish and chips as advertised on bent shovels Instagram looked amazing it was like when you see a big mac on tv vs what you get in reality just a sad couple chunks of mediocre fried fish and some whatever fries. I didn't want to leave a two star, but I gotta be honest so you can fix it. If it's gonna be 45 minutes just tell me it's gonna be 45 minutes? That's perfectly acceptable... I'll be back. You'll get better I know it.

I will get right to the point of why only a 3 star - a restaurant in my opinion, should not advertise a special if they do not have it available. Friday and Saturday, the prime rib is listed as their special...and is not available until after 4 pm per the menu. You cannot be out of the prime rib at 4:30 pm on Saturday. Post on your Facebook page that you are out or something, but don't make me go there to find out that is not available. And then you advertise the smokehouse brisket on your Facebook page and the sign in the parking lot....but you don't have any available yet at 5:00 pm (the time I did place my order). Seriously? I did order a cheese burger and chicken strips for take out...they were 3 to 4 star quality...not bad...just cold by the time I got home. The staff I met were nice, just off a bit on wait time (I was told 25 minutes, it took 45 minutes). And I did not mind the wait, but I suspect the food was probably ready before the 45 minutes, hence the cold food. The bright spot for me was the Bent Shovel Beer Garden...great concept and execution.

Pan fried oysters were good...can't remember what else I had so I may as well go back again!

Went there to have a beer and play pool. Did not get waited on until I stopped a girl that was moving tables after 15 minutes or so. Asked if we could order. She did not ask if we needed a menu. I ordered 2 beers. Played pool for awhile. She never came back to check on us or take another order. There were only about 10 people there. Had to go up to bar to get another beer. Won't go back.

The beer is good but not to die for, the staff here has been so consistently rude that we refuse to eat there anymore. This place took over the Viewpoint which has been well known for many years. They essentially killed the bar scene and tried to make a yuppy tap house in the middle of the country. They never had a full parking lot so not sure how much longer this place will last...

Cheers!! I read about this brewery initially in an article about breweries in the Oregon City (the Real OC) area that were notable, a couple of years ago. Bent Shovel stood out to me in my mind, with that cute little red barn, it seemed very rustic and a fun place to have a couple of cold ones! An undisclosed amount of time after reading the article, my hubby and I went out to Sandy, Oregon to do a trail run by the river, and I convinced my hubby to try out the brewery! (Circa November 2017). And, our dog was with us at the time, and we were able to hang out by the space heaters and enjoy beers and have a good time. Then, about a year later my husband was participating in a CycloCross race at Barton Park, and so him and a couple other races drove down the road about 5 minutes and had a few rounds of beer! It was ideal, cuz again,we had our dog Remy with us, and he was allowed to come out and hang with us. And, this year we were able to spot their cute little lab in the background! SO, cute, and with such a calm temperament! I wish we could make it out to Bent Shovel more than once a year, but as we live in Hillsboro, that is pretty far to travel. But, for now, I look forward to heading back sooN!

Bent shovel is a Great spot out in the estacada area, well worth checking out! Good beer and food.

Go here! Now! Randomly heard about this beer spot and wish I had gone sooner!! Delicious beer, cute location, dog friendly... highly recommend! Dress warm as it is outdoor seating but they do have heat lamps and a fire pit!!

I had a steak salad. It was perfect. Very friendly staff though the poor girl was running nonstop as they were short staffed on a Friday night and packed. Note some of the negative reviews, majority appear that were directed towards the owner. All these poor reviews were before the the owner took over, the owner of Bent Shovel, whose 5 star beer garden shares the same restaurant. I can assure you that the new owners have none of the characteristics that caused those poor reviews the prior ownership had. Great thing about this place is options. Order your food and walk over to the beer garden or eat indoors.

So, here's what gives this place a rare 5-star from me. 1. The Beer! Hello....these guys know how to brew a lot of different excellent Oregon Beers! 2. The atmosphere....Firepit...Check...Heat Lamps...Check..Tables for sharing with new friends.. Check...Friendly On-Site Dog. .Check...Owners who pay attention to the customers, restock the firepit with wood and go retrieve the balls for the dog, so the little girl who came with her parents can throw the ball for the dog. CHECK!!! 3. Location, Lication, Location....These guys have turned a regular country road home 8nto an Amazing and Relaxing spot to just chill and enjoy their beer. CHECK!!! DROP MIC!!! YOU MUST, MUST COME HERE!!

I've never had a bad meal from the Viewpoint Restaurant. Yesterday my girlfriend had the chicken and dumplings and I enjoyed their chicken cobb salad.

An oasis in the Estacada area near Milo Iver State Park. We finished hiking and we were heading home. Wdying of thirst, when we happened upon this idyllic beer garden under the cool trees. A choice of 23 brews are on tap. Brats are the food menu. There are also soft drinks and Sutter Home wine. Seating is at well-spaced picnic tables and a couple of fire pits. Looks like dogs are welcome too.

This is one of the few "Destination" restaurant/bars in this area. The closest attraction is McIver State Park. Not exactly a place for Hipster/Yuppie meetups, but a warm and welcoming place. What makes the "View" so special is not just the view across the highway, but the super friendly staff and OMG-OMG --- THE FOOD!!! After over 15 different meals here over the last three years, I have never been disappointed. Special mention is reserved for the Chicken Fried Steak with the biscuit and gravy. Yes, they make their own biscuits and the gravy is homemade too. You will love it. The serving size is huge. The other must try is the Nachos. Less than $10 and more than a couple can eat. Pair this with a couple of cold Oregon Beers and you have just entered Nirvana. ENJOY

This place is an example of what eastern Clackamas County really is. You can feel the close-in country friendship. Everyone is your old time neighbor here. Beer garden under the tall firs, restaurant with full bar, all Oregon gaming, great menu, and calender events. Motorcycles most welcome ! ! !

The viewpoint has been a staple for our family since we moved to the area in 2006. We went in for taco Wednesday last night, our first visit since Bent Shovel brewing took over. The open floor plan was great. The beer was good. The food and service however was not. The menu looks similar but the flavors are not as good. The empty beer glass sat on the edge of the table for fifteen minutes and the server never noticed. Then when asked for another, it still was not served. Had to ask for utensils. Such a shame.c the place has some great potential, but they need a chef and good servers.

Cool breeze wheat - light, citrus, great summer beer! One Wagon Pilsner - very light but decent. Hard to go too wrong with a Pils. Schwarzbier - berry? Hard to describe. Mild. Very decent. Blue-pom Cider - goes down very quickly! Sweet and yummy. Stout - also very mild. Refreshing compared to the harshness that you often experience with stouts! BlackHohl CDA - mild. Not bad. Flam Tap - a bit sour, but as with all of them, mild and good! All the beers were mild and it takes a fairly refined pallette to note the distinct flavors. Certainly worth returning to on another summer day, especially after a float down the river. Listened to some great bluegrass music and enjoyed the beautiful summer weather. Wonderful atmosphere for a backwoods brewery! I just wish they had food!!! Then I could give the last star.

Grabbed a to go dinner here while drinking at Bent Shovel. Crispy chicken wrap was amazing, and I'm picky, and the fries were better. Country gem

The viewpoint was a nice place to take the family. Or hang out with friends at the bar. It was a simple kind of classy. Bent shovel ruined it...the resteraunt is closed can't have a nice breakfast or Sunday brunch...there bar is like they put a bunch of tables in a garage.last time I was there the food and service sucked....never used the beer garden.figured it would be a lot of the same like inside. It's a shame they took a historic little diner and turned it into a Dive.

With the caveat that service was slower than normal due to covid and seating issues still persist until the mandates go away. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. For the type of food I was impressed, the burger was better and tastier than any of the other local options we've tried. We definitely will be coming back again, which I can't say about some of the other options in the area.

If you have never been here before, your in for a treat. First, they are THE local brewery to support. But even if they weren't a local brewery and just a beer garden they would still be the go to place. Outdoor beer garden with firepits, horseshoe, heaters for colder weather, hot dogs grilled to order.Then you have the beer. We are spoiled here with craft beer, but their beer is over the top, huge variety, free sampling and it's available in stores! Thier beer makes the other local brewery taste like watered down, flat, poor excuse for a true craft beer. Finally, the staff is awesome!

Short staffed, but service is still pretty good and fast. They have really good burgers and their sour beer on tap is one of my favorites. It's pretty big and open on the inside too.
