My husband and I drove in from waaaay out of town tonight. We were pretty exhausted from the drive and also quite hungry. After settling into our hotel room, we drove into town for some dinner. We just wanted something to bring back to the hotel, since we were both ready for pajamas. We had planned on going to Subway, but it was 9:35 (25 minutes before closing,) and the kid inside basically had all the lights off and was already mopping. We definitely didn't want to be THOSE people, so we decided to hit up the pizza place right next door called Bentino's. What first attracted us to this place was the fact that the door was wide open. It's kind of intimidating trying to find food relatively late at night in a small town. It's hard to know what's going to be open, so we definitely appreciated the open door and felt very welcome immediately when we walked in. The staff was SO nice!!!! They were pretty busy, but everyone seemed to work together well and they treated all the customers very kindly. After we placed our order for a medium pepperoni pizza, we were told the wait would be about 15 minutes. We grabbed a booth and waited. We waited as two different groups placed orders, got their food, finished it AND left. There were people in the groups that got pizza, so I can't really brush off the difference in wait times as maybe they ordered a sandwich or something easier. It took about 30 minutes to get our pizza. We're pretty patient people, so it wasn't a huge deal... we were just SO tired and ready to go. As we waited, we started seeing the impact that the welcoming, wide open doors had on the amount of bugs inside the restaurant. So many flies!!! And these beetle looking things. I'm glad we weren't planning on eating there because I don't like sharing my food with other people (or insects, in this case). We finally get our pizza, and as we leave, the entire staff ALL said good-bye to us, and thank you, and have a great weekend. Seriously the nicest people I have seen at this type of establishment. Once we got back to the room, we dig into the pizza. The first thing I notice were the thick pepperoni. I love this type of pepperoni.. you know where they curl up and form a little grease bowl? So good. I do have to say that beyond the pepperoni, the rest of the pizza was just mediocre. I had pretty high expectations based on other reviews, but honestly, it reminded me of the frozen pizzas we served at the movie theater I used to work at. If I lived in this area, this wouldn't be a place I would frequent. That being said, it hit the spot and filled us up after a long trip.
