"If you like your food experimental and innovative, then Bentley’s modern Australian dishes will speak your language. Dine à la carte or enjoy the eight-course tasting menu (there’s a creative vegetarian version too); Saturday nights also offer a five-course tasting menu. Quirky entrées include Jerusalem artichoke with yolk and burnt pear, while mains feature swordfish with pickled mussels, zucchini stem, and kelp butter. Australian ingredients rule, with quality meats grilled over charcoal." - Sophie Davies

We had lunch here the service was great and impeccable. The food was slightly underwhelming for me as I found my main fish consomme was too salty for my taste, duck was beautiful though would expect a slightly bigger portion size and our entree of quail and sashimi was alright. The dessert left quite an impression on me though I find the Sweet Potato dessert to be quite interesting and well balanced. The chocolate slightly too rich for my taste. Overall food was a 3/5 should commend our waitress though she was very lovely.

Came here on a quiet lunch day and had the tasting menu which included four snacks, three entrée dishes, main dish served with sides, and dessert. The snacks were ok, probably my least favourite part of the course. Entrees were better; tuna paired with golden kiwi was an interesting combination but worked well; calamari was very soft and the clear broth was light and fragrant; roasted quail meat was tasty but not fond of the pungent duck liver parfait. For the main dish, the wagyu rump cap was perfectly cooked with a nice sear; meat was tender and marbled without being too fatty. Finished with the dark chocolate custard and hazelnut ice cream dessert which was decadent and tasty but the highlight was the candy sweet, chilled and refreshing honeydew ice cream with melon. The course took around two hours to finish and the service from the waitress was exceptional; very friendly and attentive.

Great food. Had the degustación with my wife who took me there for our anniversary. The snacks were great Main dishes also great Only thing the Wagu had a sauce on it that I wasn’t sure if it complemented the dish. Desert were great but at the end they brought this sour square jelly that was amazing.

An old establishment, the restaurant does show it's age. We came lunch time without a reservation but was accommodated immediately. Food wise was reasonable, but nothing to shout about. A steady choice for most.

We went for the $150 pp 3 course menu and added 2 sides and drinks the day after Valentine’s Day. Pros: - they offer 3 complementary snacks for this menu which a lot of other places do not! - the snacks were decent! We appreciated that they tried to have contrasting textures here and really enjoyed the vege tartlet. Perfectly thin and crunchy base and a refreshing sourness to it made us ready to eat! - the mains were definitely the stand out here. The sauces were subtle but balanced, and the spatchcock and wagyu rump cap perfectly cooked. There was no grey taste to the steak, not too chewy and a fragrant beef flavour. We also appreciated the effort put into deboning the whole spatchcock and cooking it perfectly tender in a roulade. - sides were cooked well and portion was worth the price we paid Cons: - the seafood was bland. We felt that the scallop on the potato snack could have been more flavourful or perhaps a sweeter seafood picked to highlight its flavour eg. scampi. The potato itself otherwise had a lot of layers and was well done. - same as above, the blue fin tuna entree was definitely the worst dish. Flavourless, texture less and did not show off the fish well. - compared to Michelin starred service, there’s still a lot of refinement to do, but generally above average service and the staff did try to explain the dishes. - there’s no amazing view or nice place to take a photo. The decor does not feel too refined but the spacing between the tables were good and it wasn’t too noisy despite the full dining room.

If you find some romantic night with your partner, i recommend this place!! The BEST wine!! Wonderful environment, nice staffs and foods were created well. 👍🏻

Google
First dinner in Sydney for the weekend—a wonderful meal and an even better night! My favorite dish of the evening was the southern calamari. It was thinly sliced, incredibly fresh, and had a natural sweetness and creaminess that really stood out. The David Blackmore Wagyu oyster blade was cooked to perfection, melting in the mouth and utterly delightful. The service was impeccable—consistent, professional, and attentive throughout the night.

Google
Went for a birthday treat and it certainly did deliver. On the pricey end but worth it as I didn't need another drop or bite afterwards. The wine tasting pairings were fantastic and the highlight has to be the Wagyu beef. I felt like being taken on a journey and the whole experience was brilliant and good space in dining area to not feel cramped at all. They accommodated the need to not have seafood for one of us but if you do like seafood it is certainly a better experience. All in all would recommend as it's all good quality food and not overly indulgent.

Yelp
Tasting menu here was fantastic. Great atmosphere, great and friendly service. Came here with another couple for dinner, did the tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The presentation and flavours were both exceptional. Would return and do the tasting menu with wine pairing again.

Yelp
We were recommended this place by the Shangri La Hotel concierge and at first, we were hesitant to try this place but so glad we did. We went for lunch and did a la carte menu but they have a wonderful degustation menu of 5 courses or 8 with pairings of these wonderfully created non alcoholic beverage which makes for a perfect lunch. This beautiful space nestled in the Raddison hotel (but not affiliated with them) and curates a chef driven menu. The white glove service and attentive nature of everyone that works there makes for one of the most pleasurable meals we've had in Australia. Food - the chefs wife is vegetarian so they have an entire menu that is vegetarian and vegan friendly and almost all the items are gluten free. This made it easy to order and it did not compromise on taste. My husband enjoyed the aged lamb which he's never had before and liked it quite a bit. Each course was better than the one we had before but my favorite was the beets and black rice combo which was sweet, crunchy and flavored to perfection. At the end, we indulged in two desserts which were both vegan and gluten free with a side of kiwi, cucumber, pineapple juice. If you must try one dessert, I would suggest the coconut yogurt with parsley oil and as odd as that sounds and savory as that sounds, it's anything but. The dessert was just sweet enough without overpowering your palate. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an amazing experience without the insane prices such as Quay.

Yelp
Bentley is a modern cuisine seafood restaurant in the heart of Sydney's Business District. The menu is primarily seafood based, with a relatively limited set of choices. I intended to have an appetizer (but couldn't find anything appealing), and only had a couple of main courses I really wanted to try. Service was reasonable and friendly, but not highly attentive. The space is decorated in a modern and quite unusual way. It looks somewhat attractive, but some aspects are more weird than wonderful. Menu prices are expensive and don't seem justified by the enjoyability of the food. It is of high quality but was relatively bland and unexciting. Our group spent about $100 AUD each without ordering much alcohol or many appetizers. Overall, not recommended. Too pricey for what is delivered.

Yelp
The worst meal Ive ever eaten! It's the morning after what was the worst meal Iv ever eaten! There isn't a discrete way that I can could write this because to be frank it just doesn't deserve it. We had the degustation menu and between 3 of us the meal came to almost costing $1000! And what a total rip-off it was! For - olive, blueberry and yogurt sorbet! - Chicken liver Pate with raspberry! And Wagu beef that tasted like it was marinated in mould! My stomach is still churning! The aftertaste is still in my mouth! I've never eaten food so revolting before! I think you'd have to be a either a complete wanker, tosser or invalid to taste this crap and think that it was nice. Simply pairing odd combinations of flavours doesn't cut it! Save yourself the disappointment and the stomach ache after! Erhhhhhh so disgusting!

Yelp
Had a catchup dinner here with a friend and we were both pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. Solid food, almost comparable to Quay just without the extra edge and the price, and somewhat kind service. The food was a general positive mixture of fusion elements (the typical Australian with Japanese) and the only let down was the saltiness of the meal. Would like dinner to be better lit but that's just a small query. Will come back!

Yelp
Mr Savage, you had my heart all aflutter with your restaurant/bar finding itself listed on all manner of "best chips in Sydney" lists. I'd heard claims of them being chunky like Matt Preston's fingers and crisp like early mornings in July. With all this on my mind Bentley was on the top of my mind when a friend proposed a last minute Friday dinner in the city. Yes, purely for their chips. Don't judge me, you know you'd do the same. Bentley is a great place to go if you want a table in the city on a busy Friday night without a reservation. Plenty of tables free both in the restaurant and the bar, but not so quiet that you can't do a bit of people watching if dining alone or waiting for a friend. The service is a delight - super friendly and professional without being stuffy. Our waiter had great knowledge of the menu - definitely needed when dishes are only described by their ingredients. Our fish and beef were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully but other than that, only memorable for the steep price. The green beans with hazelnuts however I could have eaten all day - just cooked to al dente and super morish with a nutty, umami sauce of some sort. Oh and the chips? Well I'm sure you could tell by my rating but sadly they we quite disappointing. Yes they were thicker than your average chip but don't have enough crunch and lacked that glorious starchy texture on the inside. If anything they were just like...corner store wedges? Le sigh Time Out says they'd go back, even if just for a bowl of chips and glass of wine. Mmmm yeah maybe if you have money to burn and we swap the chips for some green beans. Then we can talk.

Yelp
Really wanted to give these guys a four, or even a five, but to be honest it was a bit of a struggle. It was all very nice, but, I dunno, didn't wow me. The location is good, and the fit out moody, woody, dark. Bit confusing when you walk in as no obvious reception but someone will come up and ask who you are etc and show you to the seat. I was early so had time to review both menu and wine list in detail. Wine list - extensive to the point of almost pretentious, but nevertheless a very good range of mainly European wines with good explanation and pictures of the regions they are from. Pretty pricey, but pretty much what you would expect from a two hat joint. The menu is nice, and sounds good - lots of obscure flavours and references, and all in all for my current sensibilities a bit over-wrought - but that is just me, to be honest, with diners fatigue. However, having recently eaten at Monopole, another one of chef Brent Savage's establishments, I was expecting good things. We started with fresh oysters - lovely and cold, fresh and crisp. I had Pork Cheek + Garlic and Yoghurt Puree + Radicchio + Jamon - it was interesting. The pork was very tender and soft, with a crust I couldn't identify, but only just warm. However, wonderful taste combination. Crispy fried radicchio - shades of a kale chip!! For my main, Rangers Valley Skirt Steak + Fennel + Mustard + Olive. Hmm. Skirt steak was very tender, but again, barely warm. The fennel and mustard was delightful, but the olive a bit overpowering to my taste buds, which by now are well lubricated with a nice french burgundy. The side of Sugar Snaps + Zucchini + Asparagus + Pinenut was interesting, with thin shaves of zucchini, a pinenut puree and crumb, and sugarsnaps and asparagus, served cold, like a salad, again not what we were expecting but flavoursome. Dessert - why not be rude not to. So I selected the Violet Ice-Cream + Cocoa Honeycomb + Blueberry, an interesting combination beautifully arranged elements. The service was attentive without being obtrusive, and the wine waiter helpful when our first choice was unavailable. I will likely go again, and perhaps a review upwards may be forthcoming, but for my money I would rather go to Monopole - like I said, could be just me being a bit over fussy food, decide for yourself, it is certainly worth a visit.

Yelp
Deliriously edible - and we were only there for a drink. Will write more once I've been back.

Yelp
The other night, I came to Bentley with a friend for dinner. My friend picked the venue, so I just leaned backed and hoped for the best. While I wouldn't say it turned out to be a five star experience, I will say I was very pleased with a our dinner :-) To begin with, Bentley has a really nice ambiance, a great location, and very professional service. We were seated promptly at our reservation time, and our server was attentive and helpful throughout the meal. On to the food! We came hungry, and ordered a good cross-section from the menu. Among my favorites of the evening was the pork cheek entrée. It's served in jamon with a delicate garlic / yoghurt purée and radicchio; this dish was simply exquisite! As a counter-point, the snapper & clams entrée with fennel pollen was OK, but I didn't see a trace of clams in it, and it simply wasn't as good as the other dishes. Of the other two entrées we shared that evening, the simply titled mushroom dish was wonderful, and the spot prawn was also quite good. To cap off our meal, we shared a dessert - the cep custard (with lycée sorbet and cocoa). In a word, it was amazing! I wouldn't have thought that an earthy flavor like mushroom would work for a dessert, but it quite evidently does. Our dinner was a solid four-star experience - I look forward to dining here again!

Yelp
This was a completely random dinner. Just had drinks in city on Thursday catching up with friends and was round 8. I'd wanted to try the place as I'm on an endless search to find a degustation place in Sydney which is even half as good as French Cafe back in Auckland. Anyway, feeling hungry, we decided to bite the bullet and try it out. It was quite full but managed to get a place. We decided to go for the 8 course with matching wine ($150 + $90pp). First dish, amuse bouche. This was foie gras in two different flavours. Red was definitely my favourite of the two, this had chilli and the other one contained hazelnut. The chilli foie gras had more of a kick to it and could have done with 4 of these instead of the hazelnut. Anyway, it was alright for a starter, nothing sensational. I started this thinking I'd go through each dish but actually I won't as the only one that was really good was the violet ice cream. This is probably their best dish. The food is well presented, the service is nice. Although a lot of the time I could barely hear the waiter and just politely nodded at what he was saying as I couldn't be bothered to have him repeat what he had memorised. In any case, when you're out for a fine dining experience and shelling out enough to do some serious shopping, you expect more. I'm glad I tried it, so now I know - there's nothing memorable about it and wouldn't go back again. Better to spend your $500 elsewhere. My search continues for a 5 star degustation.

Yelp
For a '2 hat' restaurant I expected more. The entree oysters were good but not great. The pork main was average and uninspiring. The service was friendly but not flawless. A dribble of wine on the outside of the glass and a spill of the water whilst pouring I can personally ignore more it just shouldn't happen in such an expensive restaurant. The bread and butter was amazing mind you; however, this isnt what you come here for. The wine list is a breath of fresh air though and very extensive. Overall the table was generally pleased with their food but they weren't blown away...

Yelp
We had an excellent meal here last week and I would definitely go back. I started with the duck which was very tasty and delicious. Then I moved onto the lamb which was cooked perfectly and very good. The sweet potato custard was a nice capstone to the meal. The service was quite good.
google avatar

Yelp
Came for a drink, stayed for the degustation. Sensational. Not just for the midweek lunch but an outstanding overall menu. Lots of knowledge around the wine selection and don't miss out on the pork cheek. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Our evening nearly didn't begin. There is no sign out the front of this restaurant, and when you go into the foyer there is no sign inside either. (I do know how to get to the Lady Fairfax Room, though, so it wasn't all for nought.) We take a punt and mosey up the stairs. Hmmm... this is the hotel reception. Still no idea where this restaurant is, so I decide to line up to ask the receptionist. That's when my dinner partner points and says "Oh look, Bentley". Tadaa... the sign was behind us!! OK, we finally get in there. The decor is modern chic and the service is friendly -- professional without being too snobbish. The sommelier knows what he's talking about, though the wines are ludicrously expensive. The food is first class, but the entrees are teeny tiny. My dinner partner ordered a seafood themed salad, and let's just say that it had more lettuce than seafood. When we're paying main meal prices for an entree, you'd expect it to be generous. Nevertheless, the mains hit the spot and we were too full for dessert. I considered coffee, but I have a mortgage.

Yelp
Frankly, I'm surprised at the weak scores for Bentley's. We came for a blow out dinner and that is what we got. It seems the other reviews were mostly lunch or snacks? My experience here was simply first rate and in fact one of the best meals I've had since coming to Australia. Bentley's is impressive visually, with a a multi level experience across the bar and eating area. Very modern and chic, if a bit dark. The menu is not complicated nor long, but the dishes are complex and elaborate combinations of unexpected ingredients. I love that, but I guess it's not for everyone. The dishes do require explanation from the wait staff, which normally I don't need. But that speaks to the interesting nature of the dishes! I had the cured venison wrapped in some kind of vegetable - delightful. My wife had the quail as a starter which was even better. My main was the chicken. I haven't ordered chicken as my main in a fancy restaurant in probably 20 years. I just find chicken too dull. But the waiter recommended it as their best dish. He was right - it was absolutely stupendous. Breast, stuffed with slivers of various things in a chestnut and browned butter sauce. OMG it was amazing. Wine list is huge with a lot of relatively obscure European regions and vineyards. The sommelier is a bit aloof, but he knows his stuff. We took his reco for a white (a SB from Victoria) which was very good. We didn't take his reco on the red opting for an Ardeche. It was only ok. Service was top notch, as expected in a restaurant of this caliber. My thinking is that Bentley's is a restaurant for adventuresome foodies. If you are, you'll love it.

Yelp
I only very occasionally eat at $$$$ restaurants, so take what i say with a grain of salt. I was eating here with a group and we were all getting the tasting menus; I had the vegetarian tasting menu but tasted several of the non-vegetarian dishes. As a meat eater, I wasn't wowed by any of the meat dishes but I really enjoyed the vegetarian ones. There was a great combination of some familiar and some unusual flavors. We also had wine pairings, so the meal was very long and at the end I was pleasantly satisfied and drunk, but certainly not full. The courses were very small, but I expected as much, and was not disappointed. My favorite courses were the two desserts (the same on either tasting menu).

Yelp
We had a meal here a few months ago based on the recommendation in time out. We enjoyed the meal at the time the double fried chips were a highlight. However my wife fell very ill that evening she remembered eating one of the honey bugs which was liquid and on reflection not good. This can happen anywhere so I phone up to let them know what had happen. The manager was not available so they took a message said they would call back which they never did. My wife phoned again and talked to the manager who was basically rude and took the line that it could not have been their food. Bad seafood can happen bad customer service is unacceptable especially at that price.

Yelp
OMG I think I just had the most amazing piece of lamb rump ever. And the pork cheek too. Yum.

Sarah W.

Yelp
Solid winelist. Had a Shiraz and a Cab Sav, both were really good. The space was pretty, as was the plating. The food tasted fine, but definitely nothing superb. I had no idea this place had any hats... let alone two hats... until I read that just now on Yelp. This definitely didn't feel like a two hat restaurant, and DEFINITELY didn't taste like one. I'd only come back here for a night cap if I stayed at The Radisson again.
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
Very disappointing for 2 chefs hat. Entrees were strange -- kingfish tasted nothing like kingfish but mains were the worse. Scampi and seafood broth was too salty with the broth more like a gravy and sirloin was tasteless. Unlikely to come back.
google avatar

Claudia L.

Yelp
This restaurant is perfect for a special occasion dinner as the service and ambiance are relaxed and upscale. The food is also delicious however go to this restaurant for the overall experience. The Martin Place proximity makes this restaurant well located, and a lovely stop after shopping and exploring in the city. I had a birthday dinner at Bentley's and their private party service is wonderful. The set-menu is high quality, which is often not the case when restaurants cater to larger groups. I highly recommend their desserts!
google avatar

Charlie L.

Yelp
Not worth the Hats it's been awarded. Meals sounded interesting but the execution was underwhelming. The prawn and pomelo entree was confusing and unbalanced, the vegetarian beetroot and wild rice was bland and undistinguishable. Food aside, the service was the biggest let down. The wine recommendation was meagre, we had to ask for water top ups, and the waitress refolded the dirty napkin off my empty plate and put it back on the table in front of me - WTF am I supposed to do with beetroot strained napkin??! Anyway.. I won't be back.
google avatar

Dee X.

Yelp
Good atmosphere. I walked in without a reservation and was able to get a table for two. The staff were nice and unpretentious. Food was great. Try the dessert too you would be surprised.

Peter K.

Yelp
The only word I can think of to describe the food at this two star establishment is disappointing, well stingy comes to mind for the amounts served and expensive is another thought. We had the tasting menu, big mistake. The wine list is extensive, but found it confusing to navigate.

Ben E.

Yelp
2 hour table seating restriction is stupid . Only a few restaurants seem to be doing it and it's not enough time especially for events like I was looking to book. Been to Bentley bar before and it was great . But the 2 hour maximum kills the experience

Yelp
I'm staying at the Radisson hotel and decided to try the Bentley. I came here on Jan 2. It was closed on Jan 1. I have no idea what it's about. I learn that it's a tasting menu. You are locked in. I selected the five course option because I had a date. The swordfish was the best of my prep plates. The first dish was calamari. It was exquisitely tender. The sauce was almond and a little sweet for my taste. The wine pairing was a Riesling like flat apples. It was fine. Blackened pork belly went the other way with a little too much salt. The Grenache paired with it was entirely drinkable. Waiting a long time, I had time to look around. A lot of time. The decor is somewhere between old Sydney and industrial chic. Neither wins or makes a statement. The flow of traffic is annoying as the entrance cuts through the bar area and the kitchen. Everyone is running around like they are serving a dinner for three hundred at the same time and the place looks like it seats 40. Service was very, very slow... Not intentionally but because they were running around like crazy. It did start to slow down and become more enjoyable but I was getting late for my date and the third course hadn't shown up. It did. The steak was soft and tasteless. The one was good but I forgot what it was so I asked. It's a Syrah. The best of all for me. I asked them to hurry for the desert and it came out right away. I think it had been ready and waiting. The desert was fine and the muscadet served with it sweet and nasty. I drank it a anyway.

Yelp
Spent a fine afternoon here. Wonderful food and a superb wine list. I ate the Spanner Crab, followed by a Beef fillet with black garlic and nigella. Cheeses to finish. Enjoy.
