I finally visited the renowned Berenjak — a restaurant I’d been wanting to try for a long time, especially with its Michelin recognition. The vibe and décor were a definite yes, warm and inviting, and I felt good being there.
Service was excellent too — we were served by a lovely lady named Rose.
Starters
• Black Hummus – AED 45
Black chickpeas, tahini, walnuts, somagh
⭐ 3/5 — visually interesting but quite plain and lacking depth of flavour.
• Kashk-e Bademjoon – AED 45
Coal-cooked aubergine, whey, walnuts, dried mint, onions
⭐ 3/5 — decent but missing richness and smokiness I expected.
• Mast o Khiar – AED 35
Strained yogurt, cucumber, mint, green raisins
⭐ 4/5 — tasty and refreshing but could use a bit more flavour.
• Mirza Ghasemi – AED 45
Coal-cooked aubergine, garlic, tomato, eggs
⭐ 4/5 — portion tiny for the price, mainly tasted like tomato paste and no scrambled egg flavour.
Starters portions are small and a bit overpriced.
Bread (AED 19 each)
• Taftoon — ⭐ 5/5
• Barbari — ⭐ 5/5
• Sangar — ⭐ 2/5 (very dry and chewy)
Pickles – AED 16
Too pricey for the portion.
Mains
• Jujeh Kabab – AED 98
⭐ 4/5 — nicely grilled but slightly too salty and not much saffron flavour.
• Barreh Kebab Tond – AED 135
⭐ 5/5 — soft, tender lamb and beautifully cooked.
None of the mains came with complimentary sides, which was disappointing.
• House Rice – AED 37
Dessert
• Cake-e Asal – AED 48
Honey & pistachio sponge, black lime curd
⭐ 5/5 — moist, light, and absolutely lovely.
Overall
It was a pleasant meal with great service and ambience, but I found it slightly overpriced for what it offers, and the menu is quite limited — both in food and drinks.
There’s no selection of teas or coffee, which was surprising.
I enjoyed the experience but don’t think I’d return, especially with many more authentic Iranian/Persian options in Dubai that offer better value and depth of flavour.
