Berg's Smoked Meat & Poutine

What a great spot for delicious food! We had the Montreal sandwich, the pastrami melt, and the smoked meat poutine, with a side of coleslaw and potato salad. Everything was fresh and delicious! . The staff, including the owner, Kevin, were very attentive. You couldn't ask for better service.

Berg’s is awesome. The pastrami is flavorful, lean and super tasty and served on good, soft rye. The split pea soup with smoked turkey is out of this world!

Every time I order , it’s always a great experience all way around.The food is outstanding , from the meat, soups and salads , always fresh, staff is friendly and always ready to assist with whatever you may want . Custom orders too. Just had a great special order of the Pastrami Nachos , which everybody was awed and delighted with . It’s always a pleasure to order from Berg’s.. Thanks to a really great place to get awesome food and nice people !!

Berg’s did not disappoint. Incredible smoked meat that could compete with any Montreal — and dare I say better the famous Schwartz. The poutine is really good. Owner is super friendly. A bit of a drive with summer shore traffic but well worth it.

What amazing food at the Small place, delicious pastrami sandwich, delicious potato pancakes, but the star of the show was the poutine. I could eat it all day every day! The staff was very friendly and efficient. Great work.

The meat was the best part. Pastrami is very good. Poutine is alright. The thing is the red haired younger guy with sunburn who took my order was not very friendly. It was kind of weird and unwelcoming. I asked him if I could hand my tray back through the window when I was done and he just said...... there's a garbage over there so I had to come back inside. I should have just left the stuff on the table. I would say I will next time, but I think it's a first and last time for me.

The owner was extremely nice and welcoming. We tried the pastrami cheesesteak and a side of the classic poutine. Both were very good and filling for two. There is some seating inside, and the AC is great. I would definitely recommend.

I stumbled across this place for lunch and the owner helped me pick a couple options which were all amazing, and the owner himself was very kind ! I had fried pickles, mini poutine, kale Cesar salad, and an amazing Roast Beef Special. Everything was fresh, and so well seasoned! I will definitely be back for years to come! Thank you

I want to update my review. If you like pastrami, this is the best pastrami sandwich I have ever had and I can't think of anything I would change. The rye bread is super fresh, soft in the middle with a chewy crust. The pastrami is tender and moist, but still had a firm enough texture to be a good chew. The cut is thick, much thicker than cold cit pastrami, if you hold up a slice it won't fall apart, but you can cut it with a fork with almost no effort . Zero gristle, zero inedible parts. Not too salty, delicious spice mixture. I order 50/50 fatty/lean and it's perfect - just enough fat to make the sandwich juicy, but not overly fatty. I can eat a whole small sandwich or one half of the larger size. I like the bite of the large sandwich. The mustard is bold but not overwhelming. The homemade coleslaw is not mayonnaise based, it's very slightly sweet- absolutely delicious on its own, but the perfect counterpart to the pastrami. The man behind the counter (who I assume is the owner as he's always there) is very nice, considerate and helpful. I even appreciate the paper bags he uses and how carefully he packs everything. His staff is just as nice. Now that it's summer there are tables outside with umbrellas, but I would characterize this as a takeout with seats. This is a great example of a place that would have a Michelin star, if they reviewed places like this. It's that good. If it were closer, I'd be in trouble.

wow! it was my first time I here and def not the last. the chicken schnitzel ceasar sandwich is absolutely one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. the potato salad is also VERY good. It's a little on the expensive side, but it's worth it. the sandwich can easily be two meals. I can't wait to come back and try their poutine and matzo ball soup. keep in mind that this is a casual spot with only street parking, and it's mainly takeout (limited bar seating available). service was friendly and quick on a cold Thursday evening.

Great pastrami in Belmar New Jersey who would have thought, not me but it's true. Berg's has pastrami like Katz's on Houston Street in Manhattan use to but now is a thing of the past but not at Bergs. They even have the right soda. The only thing missing is kinishes. The chicken soup was superb. So if you love pastrami like it is supposed to be get yourself to Berg's in Belmar. The only downside to the place is they are a takeout restaurant with a small counter you can eat at. So do like lots of people did in 1970's eat it the car for that authentic food Mecca experience plus your car will smell great for a couple of days.

Traveled over an hour from south Jersey to try the food. Today is our anniversary so we wanted to try some where new. Was not disappointed at all!!!!! Very clean. Great customer service. Everything was cooked well!

So good! Worth the hour drive from my town to here. The pastrami poutine was amazing. My daughter had the smoked turkey and ate her entire meal on the drive home.

I first experienced this style food attending the Montreal F1 race and fell in love with it. It's great to have a spot serving the real deal here.

LOVE. If you haven't tried poutine you are sad. Delicious. Don't let the weirdness of cheese curds and gravy throw you. Smoked meat? Even better. And I'm from Philly. Berg's is the best. Seriously. GO. EAT. Be astonished.

So yummy! We drive over 45 minutes to get their pastrami poutine. Originally from Quebec, I will sometimes crave poutine and this place satisfies that craving. It's a new take on poutine, but the smoke meat is delicious. The fries are perfectly crispy with squeaky cheese curds, salty meat & gravy--chef's kiss. The dining area is small, and when it's hot there's no beating the heat but at-least there's some shade. Must say the staff aren't the most helpful, but that's okay. Overall the food shines through, and we will be returning for some more. I would say the best way to enjoy would be pick up and take home.

I can not say enough good things about Bergs. We placed a catering order for 25 people this weekend, and our guests really enjoyed everything. Even with how busy they get during the parade weekend, they were super helpful, accommodating and everything was fresh, tasty and ready to go when we picked up. We had several sandwich trays, a tray of their amazing poutine (their homemade fries are the best!, somehow they stayed crispy for a long time even with all the yummy toppings), and their smoked wings! The pastrami and smoked turkey are always a hit and the corned beef made our St. Patty's party! From inside a small sandwich shop comes BIG smokehouse flavor. This is one of our favorite meals in Belmar.

Wow. Hands down best Pastrami in the state. Taste and opinion is objective I realize. I love corned beef and pastrami, and saw this driving past in Belmar. Stopped in expected the same old deli sandwich. Same old prepackaged drek. Was I ever wrong. In my opinion this sandwhich is in the level of Katz deli in NYC, that good. I was shocked. Really. Top shelf. Better than Harolds by alot. A good smokey, classic taste, with the right amount of spice, not overpowering but really tasty. I honestly have not had a better pastrami at any place in Jersey, or even in NYC delis since Im a little kid. This is the real deal guys and gals. The poutines were outstanding, tasty as well. Will definitey head back real soon. People, this place is a real gem. A must have sandwich.

Their melt in your mouth pastrami cannot be beat. I had the Classic Montreal and it was a joy the moment it hit my taste buds. The fried pickles were a hit, too!

Knowing that we were coming back to the Jersey Shore, and bringing the family, from Las Vegas, I Googled "poutine" and Bergs came up. WOW! Were we grateful! Not only was the poutine amazing but the Ruebens and the pastrami sandwiches were the best. When we come back next year, we'll be back multiple times during the week!

Finally got to check it out. Fast service! Lots of Options. Smoked meat sandwich was very good with choice of size. Might be best to get mustard on the side, they were a bit too generous with it on the sandwich. Poutine was pretty good, only. Only complaint would be gravy was too salty for my taste.

I always pass this place and never know what it is. So glad I stopped in. The pastrami is out of bounds. The pastrami russian is a must order and I also liked the unique pastrami cheesesteak. So good. The cheese curds had a nice crunch and a funky sauce to them. The cauliflower burnt ends were ok but wouldn't reorder. I would come back in a heartbeat for the sandwiches.

Bergs has Smoke Meat and Poutine comparable to Montreal. Their chicken wings and fries are also fantastic. Highly recommended.

This is a must go Destination for ALL serious foodies!! The food is Amazing. Diverse menu but you can't go wrong with anything you choose. The owner Kevin puts his heart and soul in every perfectly prepared dish. He is obsessed with Excellence in everything he offers. Best pastrami I have Ever had. I had my 15th smoked turkey Reuben today and every bite took me to a higher level of joy. The food is perfectly prepared and Always consistent. I have had great meals at restaurants and gone back and been disappointed but NEVER has this happened at Bergs Always Blown Away!!! Staff is very friendly,prices are ridiculously low for the quality of food and portion sizes,talk about clean.. IT'S spotless. They really take pride in all that they do. This place is going to Blow Up soon so Run don't walk get there and you will be Very Happy you did!

I've had my eye on Berg's for quite sometime now and finally visited while I was in the area. I had the Reuben and shared the classic poutine with my boyfriend. Everything was great! I really loved my sandwich and the poutine was excellent. My boyfriend had the Montreal smoked meat sandwich and really enjoyed it. We'll definitely be back!

I was in the area and wanted something different than the usually subs, pizza or tacos (although I love them) and I came across Berg's. It did not disappoint! My husband tried the grilled pastrami and I had the "cheesesteak". The cheesesteak is actually a pastrami cheesesteak. Both were absolutely delicious. Bread was also very fresh. Staff were really friendly. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu!

The smoked meat and the pouring were fabulous. Don't know what else to say. There's no real seating unless the weather's nice so it's really a take out place. Not their fault, the building is tiny.

Poutine is like jersey disco fries, but arguably better. Soggy, even though we ate them right away, but thats to be expected. The gravy was a bit salty, so definitely drank a lot of water. And the deep fried cheese curds were a block of melted mess. I can see this being a good drunk meal on summer nights.

We ordered take out: Smoked chile and a pastrami sandwich. The pastrami was excellent. I had the chile as my meal. It was flavorful, but very thin like soup or a very thin meat sauce that one might put over pasta with a few beans thrown in. To my taste, it didn't have the consistency of a good chile. There didn't seem to be much meat in it. Very disappointed. I will try this place again since we only sampled two items, but never the chile. I can't comment on the service or ambience as we had takeout. Why Yelp indicates I'm in San Francisco, I have no idea. I've lived in Jersey all my life and can't seem to change my location in YELP.

So glad I finally got to try Bergs. As a poutine lover I knew I had to check it out when I came across it on yelp. It was phenomenal! We also got the pastrami melt, pastrami seasoned wings, and matzah ball soup. Everything was delicious! I wish we took pictures but we will next time.

I made my first few visits to Berg'sy, located at 15th & Main St. in Belmar, NJ. You owe it to yourself to give them a try. I haven't"t tried everything but their signature dish is pastrami. Hand sliced, choice of bread, with and without Russian dressing and Cole slaw. You can hit about 10 pizza joints in the area, but fresh pastrami is the ticket. A couple more lunches and we'll do a more in depth review. But don't wait for me, pop in and get lost in their tasty sandwiches menu.

With the unfortunate accident which closed Irv and Karen's, Lee t looking for a good deli sandwich and heard about this place in Belmar. More a takeout place than a restaurant, with only 3 outdoor tables, was surprised when we arrived. Ordered two Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, which a smoked brisket ( somewhere between a corned beef and a pastrami). The sandwiches were very good. Had a side of the latkes; somewhat disappointed here as they were very dense and deep fried. Finished with two Dr. browns cream sodas, which is a good thing to have with a deli sandwich. Prices are fair, especially in these inflated times. The help was friendly. One negative comment, one of our party wanted their BLT sandwich and we were told they were out of bacon. When we asked further, they said they will probably not have it till next summer. If so, why is it on the menu?

Amazing! You won't regret it. I wish I had this place closer to home. The latke is one of the best I've had and I even make them myself at home.

Small Main St location near 16th Ave. Just go inside! It's clean, and friendly for starters. They yummy smell of smoked meat will speak to you. I've tried a number of offerings they were all delicious. My favorite is the lean smoked pastrami. Treat yourself.

Best Reuben () on the Jersey Shore!!! Reuben () was the oldest of Jacob and Leah's sons of Israel. He was the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Reuben. He was so awesome, they named a sandwich after him.

I was scrolling through the website for The Shore restaurant week. I saw poutine and thought back to vacations in Canada where poutine was a staple. I ordered the chili , russian sandwich with a side of poutine. This isn't the poutine I remember. This is closer to disco fries. Tic Toc diner at 2 am disco fries. I had it for takeaway so it was expected to be soggy. No fault there. The cheese curds didn't add anything. Maybe try mozzarella? The chili was horrible! Way too much cumin. The russian sandwich was decent. Didn't come close to Harold's deli in Raritan Center Edison, however. The standard for pastrami and any deli food. Only problem is that you're eating it for the next 2 days because the portions are so huge. But it's the best in the state. Great pickle bar too. I normally don't write reviews. But after trying Berg's I'm baffled by the 5 star reviews. Do these reviewers work there? After my review will there be a bunch of 5 star reviews to follow? Maybe I caught them on a bad day? Do yourself a favor. Go to Harold's and you decide.

Berg's is a unique gem serving Montreal Smoked Meat and poutine. You have a choice of sandwich size and whether you want lean, fatty, or 50/50. The poutine is true poutine, no disco fries. And it gets my teenage daughter's rating of 10 out of 10.

Undeniably one of the best spots in Monmouth County, and I'd go as far as to say all of New Jersey. The pastrami reuben is excellent, flavorful and hits every time. Have been coming since they opened and they have earned beyond a 5 star review because it's absolutely great on all of my many visits. If you find yourself in the area, this is my top recommendation.

Outstanding and the most satisfying lunch I've had out in months. I would have waited in line here but I got my lunch in about 5 min after picking this place out on yelp while sitting on the beach. Great ingredients put together simply. Pretty sure everything on my plate was homemade and fresh. They know good food here.

I don't give 5 stars lightly but the Ruben I had here is some of the best in the state. You won't get the quality or flavor this good at many other places. Very filling I always just get that and nothing else. Going to have to try other things on the menu next time.

Pastrami is flavorful and moist. Softest rye bread. Wonderful Smokey split pea soup. Matzo ball is pass on next time... too much dill. Nice people.

Best matzo ball soup ever!! Has pieces of chicken n veggies in it. It is amazing! Just like penicillin for the soul. Their Black Russian sandwich on rye was moist and delicious!! Our new favorite go-to take out food!

Nothing else like it. If smoked meat is on your list, here is where to go. Get fat not lean.

I ordered the DIY Pastrami and Classic Poutine for a graduation party yesterday. My family is still texting me today raving about Berg's Pastrami and Poutine! My sister and bro-in-law said it was the best Pastrami they ever had. Growing up in North Jersey with a father who was half Jewish, we thought we were Pastrami connoisseurs! Berg's added potato salad and pickles that were outrageous. Everything was devoured. Thank you, Berg's!

Fresh tasty smoked beef at the level of Pastrami Queen in Manhattan. On fresh rye - the bread matters! And fresh fabulous coleslaw - different from others, a little lighter, perhaps my favorite. Easy pick up. A few tables outside, but drive a few blocks and eat at the beach. Great place!

Fresh and delicious. I love meat, but the kale Ceasar salad and the tuna salad is amazing.
