On the Grid : Bernal Hill

"There is no Bernal Heights without our beloved hill. You can see this landmark from all over San Francisco, and once there, the park offers some of the best 360 degree views of the city. Named for the Mexican ranch owner Don Jose Cornelio Bernal (who once owned the original 226 acres), this 26 acre park is thriving thanks to decades of community involvement and volunteer work. Runners and dog walkers enjoy the many trails, as well as the mile paved loop around the base. If you are slightly more adventurous, climb to the top—a popular place to view fireworks when there is no fog (so, never), fly a kite or to watch the sunset. An unofficial rock maze slowly changes as visitors modify the pathways. You may find a citizen-installed rope swing in your exploration, offering what I can assume is a pretty exhilarating ride while viewing the city below. Certainly boasting the best view for any rock in San Francisco, the magical golden rock stands proudly looking down the mountain, and is a good place to take a rest on your trip around the hill." - Strohl

Great paved walking paths. You can also hike up to the top for panoramic views of the City and the Bay. There's also a swing you can try, if you want. Lots of dog walkers use this park so expect lots of dogs around. It gets windy, especially at the top of the hill, so dress in layers. You can also look at the top of the trees when you park to see how strong the high winds are before you walk or hike.

Google
The park is basically a hill. You climb up the hill, you can walk around the hill, there are several benches around the area to sit down and relax. View is really nice. There are a lot of people walking their dogs in and around the park.

The Hill is a 5!!! & so are the old time neighbors. The newer residents, I tell my brother when he visits to NEVER go without me. We are Afro-Latinex & I don't want 1 of the new residents to call the police because he's walking while black. Prayers for Alex Nieto & his family.

Google
Great view from a great location Semi easy walk up (San Fransico standards that it. “Crazy inclines and declines”) sweet view of the city. Benches to sit and rest. Paved maybe well compacted pathways for all to use with ease. Great for dogs and humans.

Even on a cloudy day, it's a beautiful hike

Cute little hill for a quick hike / walk. But the swing is broken. Can it be fixed? :/

Google
Best sunset views of San Francisco!!! The drive up there is fun, if you love driving on steep slopes like I do. After you park, you then walk up to the pick which is a reasonably steep at first and then you go up about 50 steps followed by a very steep but short climb to the very top; It's only tasking if you are in a rush. At the top, you get the best view of the city I've seen. I recommend going around sunset for the absolute best view!

Google
Came around sunset on a foggy weeknight, truly feels like you’re in a serene rural setting of Arizona without the sweltering humidity. The swing is very relaxing

Yelp
This is an awesome place. Park and walk. Beautiful vistas. Love this city skyscape. Saw quite a few people walking their dogs. There's a swing. There's a bench. Such a great neighborhood walk.

Yelp
This park is lovely. It has great views and best if all (for me) it is full of dogs. The first time we came here, it felt like home. I saw a dog walker with 15 dogs and almost every person had a pup with them. I love that you can have your dog off-leash here so the whole family can explore together. We had a particularly terrible incident here on one visit where I wandered down a hill and left my sweet pup with her father, thinking he had the same voice control over her that I did. When she saw me from the top of the hill, she instinctively jumped. It was one of the worst moments of my life. Time seemed to move in slow motion as I watched her roll and hit a rock. Ultimately she was ok, other than a bloody lip and began playing with a dog near me at the bottom of the hill while I fussed and screamed but I will never forgive myself...or my husband. Of course this park has the iconic swing but sometimes it is there and sometimes it isn't. I will say that when it is there, there is typically a line for it, but it is quite sturdy, as I weigh 300+ lbs and it holds me just fine. The hike can seem steep at points, but again, I am large and I don't have an issue, so just know that it looks harder than it is. Parking can be tricky, like everywhere in the city, but people and their dogs are always coming and going so honestly, if you're patient you should be able to find a spot. It's worth it for a lovely walk with your pup in the heart of the city.

Yelp
Still liking this place a lot! Good hike and nice view ..... plus .... the swing is back !!

Yelp
This place is great for a walk/hike since it is not crowded at all. I came here for the swing! The road is easy to go up to the swing once you park your car and walked up about 5 minutes to the swing. I came here on Saturday afternoon and the swing was waiting for me. I saw couple people enjoying the views but no one seem to focus on the swing at all so I had it by myself for hours. The view was breathtaking! You can see the whole Bay Area of San Francisco. It wasn't cold the day I went up there. You can hike up here since the road is easily to walked. The view is just amazing!

Yelp
Go here. Take your dog. Take your running shoes. Just get up that hill and look around. Sometimes you'll see coyotes but it's a rarity. I've been here easily a hundred times and it's happened, maybe three separate occasions. Mostly around dawn. Bernal Heights Park is an awesome spot for a short stee hike in the city. Try connecting it with the stairs and local green spaces. Such as the Eugenia st stairs, Montcalm st. stairs, Mayflower st., Holly Park Or wherever you please! I recommend walking up Folsom st for the first time. Just spectacular green trees. It's a bonus if the swing set is up. Only then the park has 6 stars!

Yelp
I have so special many memories of this park. Before I moved to SF earlier this year , my first introduction to Bernal Heights was with a friend. We stopped by here after picking up Tortas in the south Mission, and spent a good hour looking over the city as our day started. After moving here - literally an hour after I landed, the first thing I did was visit Bernal Heights. That's when It really hit me that I had finally made it out here (that day has a lot of sentimental value to me) The park itself is beautiful - plenty of room for you to go with a group, sit on the hill and enjoy a sunset or hangout while looking at the city. It does get cold later I. The day, so I'd recommend bringing a jacket. The view from Bernal heights is quite incredible and, if you're lucky, you may even get the opportunity to get in the tree swing This is a must visit place for anyone visiting or living in the city

Yelp
Hiking: pretty short trails that lead to the top of the hill where you can pretty much get panaroma views of the whole city/bay on a clear day The swings at the top of the hill pictured have apparently been gone for a few years! boo! Trails: can get pretty steep, are dirt/rocky/unpaved and can be pretty slippery even when dry. The terrain at least when we went was all dry rock, so there wasn't anything scenic about the hike itself other than the views of the city. Tons of dogs, I'm not sure what the exact rules are but most of the dogs were off leash No bathrooms Parking: a joke of a parking lot on one side with 3 spots, otherwise there are trailheads all around the park, so it's not too hard to find street parking.

Yelp
amazing views of the city, especially at sunrise or sunset. definitely not an easy hike up the stairs and hills if you're taking public transportation like me, but it is that accessible!

Yelp
Everyone's giving me wanderlust vibes with their Spring Break photos, so I'mma write about one of my favorite views from a past trip. I've been to San Francisco numerous times and wanted to try something different. It was our last full day in the city and I knew I wanted to get a different vantage point of San Francisco without having to invest a whole lot of time hiking. Bernal Heights Park offers just that! We took an uber and was dropped off near the entrance of the park. We walked for maybe 5, not even 10 minutes, before reaching the highest point of the park which culminated in 360 degree views of the city and came complete with a fun swing. We spent at least a good 30 minutes here and took 100s of photos and just sat and people watched. We probably could have taken the other route to soak in the outdoors a bit more, but we headed straight for the swing that day. I wanted to capture a specific photo and we went during a weekday morning so we pretty much had the swing all the ourselves. Sad to say that the swing is now gone apparently, which I think was the best part and drew a lot of visitors here for that "signature swing photo." I'm happy we were able to capture those memories before the swing came down. The views are still amazing though and I still would recommend a stop here.

Yelp
Great hiking spot with spectacular views! You get a full 360-degree view of San Francisco. The trail itself was pretty clean. I came with my parents, and they enjoyed it. So, I can safely say that this is an easy-leveled hike. Saw lots of dogs. Highly recommend for anyone looking for nice, leisure, nature walk in SF.

Yelp
It's such a good park with great view. I enjoyed walking with my senior dogs and they didn't mind walking up there. I love the view and nice breeze. Parking on street no problem.

Yelp
Some people will argue that this place has even better views of the Bay Area than Twin Peaks. And while I won't confirm or deny this, I will say that it provides one of the most stunning views of the City that I've seen around these parts. It can definitely rival that of Twin Peaks, but I feel like Bernal Heights is just a completely different feel. For one thing, it doesn't have the touristy feel that Twin Peaks does. Not that it's bad or anything, but sometimes you just want to experience something without the crowds. Something that not too many people know about. This is that place. Tucked away on a big hill in Bernal Heights is this small little local park. There's a tiny parking lot with maybe enough spaces for about 4 cars max. From there, there's a wide fire road that inclines up a hill to the top of a vista point. I came here during the night time after spending the day in the City, and it was the perfect way to end the evening. There weren't many people there since it was dark, but the views of the city were so gorgeous. They just kept getting better and better as I moved higher up the hill. When you reach the semi-top, there's a rest bench where you can sit and take in the views. I've only been here at night, but I can only imagine that the views are just as stunning during the day time. The whole jaunt is maybe about a mile or so roundtrip. There are also some other short hiking trails on the other side of the hills, but would definitely do those during the daylight hours instead. I did see a few people still hiking those hills with a few flashlights. A little too bold for me in this area, but I'm sure locals do this all the time. People walk their dogs and bring their little ones for a brisk walk here, but you should definitely be very careful because there are coyotes in those hills. I heard something rustling in the bushes behind me, and sure enough when I turned around, a coyote was literally crossing the trail right behind me. Kind of scary, but more so for those who decide to bring small dogs and children (especially at night). Just be aware of your surroundings and you should be alright. Didn't see the oh so popular swing, but it was dark out and the city views were enough for me. Would love to see this park during the daytime and even during a sunset. If it's anything like it is at night, I'm sure those views would be just as stunning.

Yelp
My second favorite place in the whole city. This hilltop has incredible 360 views from reaching across the bay to watching the fog roll in over Mount Sutro. It's an easy steady slope up a paved road to the top (under 1 mile), then a dirt trail that circles the top. I just wish the tree swing was still there! It felt like you were soaring above the city, and it made for a great photo op. Bring your friends, bring a date, bring your dog, or bring a book and some good snacks. Either way, it'll be a beautiful time.
google avatar

Kendra F.

Yelp
I came here for the swing and saw so much more! Quick way up to the top, but there is so much more to it than just getting to the top and coming back down. It's basically a well kept dog park. Plenty of dogs of all sizes and breeds. I may bring mine next time for the hell of it. I'm sure she'd love it. So, the swing is gone but oh well. I came here on a somewhat sunny day and the weather was great. I think we spent maybe an hour or so just walking around this place and staring at the view of the city. There's also a rock formation that I didn't take a pic of, but if you're into that, it's there. Yet another place to explore and dine out at - I know we're all missing the experience of just eating out. Pack a lunch and come!

Yelp
This is my favorite viewpoint in the city second to twin peaks. I'm really thankful for places like this in the city where you can just get away and watch the sunset. Keep driving, park on the street with no outlet, and then walk up the stairs! I would suggest going all the way and keep going left so that you can get to the view of the ocean and the bridges!
google avatar

Sandy Y.

Yelp
What's not to love about this park? Low effort + high yield place to go! Dog friendly & beautiful 360 view of the city and beyond.. this is a must for everyone to visit at least once! You can drive right up to this park, park along the street, and take a short walk to the top! The swing is no longer there, FYI. However, the views are unbeatable. I also love seeing all the off leash dogs here playing fetch with their owners, living their best lives. There's plenty of space to walk around, with great views no matter where you go. There's also the rock just a bit below the peak of the park that is always getting painted! I've seen it as a poop emoji and most recently, an ombre hue of sunset colors.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite park to watch sunsets in San Francisco. An easy hike but with breathtaking views.

Yelp
In search for a place to kill time before hanging out with my friends in the Mission District, and wanting to see if indeed, the views here were superior to those found at Twin Peaks, my roommate and I headed here. He braved the steep and dizzying hills to find street parking in the neighborhood, and we walked up to get to the park. Once at the park, we were floored by the 360 degree views of the city. Nearly all the districts, the Bay Bridge, South San Francisco, and even a part of Daly City were visible from the top! Lots of locals were walking their dogs or getting exercise without pets. The tree swing was still there too, but I didn't get any pictures on it as it was a particularly windy day. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and spent a good amount of time taking in the views and walking around. It's surely an awesome spot to get fresh air if you're brave enough to do the drive.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
As of August 6, 2021, there is no signature swing but that's okay. I came here on a Friday and it was a beautiful day... windy but not too cold. The views are gorgeous (see pictures). My sister and I were lazy and instead of hiking, we parked at the top of the hill by the residential apartments/homes and only had to walk up the stairs. Definitely worth a visit! Only -1 star because I wanted a picture of myself on this signature swing.
google avatar

Shane S.

Yelp
I love Bernal Heights Park. Many different ways to approach the top of the hill with numerous trails to choose from & diverge off of to change up your approach up around or down the hill. Once to the top of the hill however you choose to get there you will be rewarded with 360 panoramic views of the City including the Bay Bridge & Golden Gate Bridge. Interesting people watching sometimes as you will see walkers, hikers, joggers, runners, & people out enjoying the fresh air walking their dogs. I once saw a coyote up here. On the top of the hill is a big tree with a swing that you can use. Beautiful gem in the City!
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
Came here excited to take a new picture with the swings. Unfortunately, the swings are gone who took the swings and why? I wanted to retake a picture I took three year 3 years ago. The view is still amazing and came up around 2 o'clock. As always there are cute dogs so that makes me happy. We won't be around for sunset but it would be amazing as it was 3 years ago.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Stopped by for a short time to get some pictures of the city. Great views of the city skyline. I still like Twin Peaks better, but this place is less crowded. Parking wasn't too hard to find. Lots of street parking.
google avatar

Ang V.

Yelp
Love this place for my dogs! There's an off leash section. Beware that there is no gated perimeter and if your dog doesn't have good recall they can fall off the cliff. There's also a water fountain for humans and dogs. There are several ways to hike up and many entrances to park. Thankful I've been able to easily get street parking. As of 8/29/2020 THERE IS NO MORE SWING. The view is amazing! Not too crowded and definitely a sf favorite view spot. Only downside is that there is only one bench at the top and no other seating. Pretty rocky and bumpy so wouldn't suggest sitting on the ground.
google avatar

Yelp
Paid a visit to SF's little gem. Location: Bernal Heights Bookmarked this gem years ago, why did it take me so long? lol Wish I brought my hiking shoes but I only came to see the views and to swing on the infamous swing. Check me out swinging into Mother's Day. Happy Belated to all the Mother's out there.

Yelp
Amazing park with stunning views of San Francisco and points South. I've lived in the San Francisco Bay area for more than 25 years, and this was my first visit to Bernal Heights Park. San Francisco never ceases to amaze with its high heels and shocking views. Read up on the geology of Bernal Hill. There are tons of interesting Internet resources. Read about how the chert protects Bernal Heights from earthquakes. One of the things I love most about Bernal Heights Park and Bernal Hill is the 360-degree amazing view.
google avatar

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
We were able to find parking in a small lot and hiked up. We were expecting a dog park but did not find it. Lots of dogs on the walk and benches to sit on if you want to just take in the scenery. It is a bit uphill and I saw a lot of cars on the other side of the hilltop trying to find parking in the neighborhoods.
google avatar

Ed U.

Yelp
It somehow slips my enfeebled mind that this expansive hilltop park is here providing wondrous vistas of the city comparable to Twin Peaks but far less crowded. You're also less likely to run into a fog bank here. In the midst of a lazy Saturday afternoon, I found myself walking around Bernal Heights and gravitating up the residential streets that gradually climb from Cortland Avenue to the park. The first thing I saw when I arrived was the lunar-like landscape that serves as an off-leash area for dogs and their owners (photo: http://bit.ly/2E0ZtrM). Once I walked up a bluff on the western side of the park, I followed the one-mile park trail which allowed me to take in a panoramic 360-degree view (photo: http://bit.ly/2E2FokF). I found myself precariously walking around a fenced-in radio tower and came upon a swing that begged to be swung (photo: http://bit.ly/2SV6wMX). Desperately waiting for someone to push me, I didn't get too airborne before I started getting vertigo. I recovered and walked down the hill toward Mission with a little urban sliding along the way. It's quite a nice quiet spot to chill and you won't see any tour buses either. RELATED - Up for a hike? Here are the places around the Bay Area where I have trod: bit.ly/2OsCCsK

Yelp
How did we not know about this place is beyond me! Ignorance! ignorance! I tell you. So, we started with looking for Bernal Height Slide. It's surprisingly shorter than all the pictures of it. But, we had fun. Then we turned 180 degree (literally)and saw stairs. So, up we went with our bags of food looking for a decent place for picnic. Lo and behold, Bernal Height Summit! We went on the first day of 2019 and could not be happier. From the top, SF is just beautiful. No homeless, racism, rudeness, nor other ugliness are seen from up here. Just a beautiful city! Not sure if it's legal. But all the four legged furries were off leashed. My Coco was happy.

Yelp
Review #074 - 2020 I've had this spot bookmarked for quite some time, but never made my way out since San Francisco is always busy, especially during the weekends. Being that everyone's being quarantined, and there were posted signs all over the freeways stating that "all beaches and state parks are closed due to COVID-19", I decided to make a quick drive over just to see if it were true. Well, I guess everyone's out enjoying the day, so I decided to jump out of my car & made my way up the hills as well. My 15-year old niece is an Instagram junkie so she had no problem trekking up the steep hills with me. Even my 4-year old daughter had no fear! The hike is actually not too bad for people who are in normal shape. You don't have to be in good shape; but if you have a heart condition, like myself, you should most definitely bring a water bottle because I made the mistake of forgetting mine in the car & I almost passed out halfway to the swing. The view up top is awesome! It was pretty cold & windy when we there around 6 PM on Friday, April 10th, so you should have a jacket with you unless you like the cold. It is still under construction so you should be careful & watch your steps. When we finally made it to the swing, we had to wait about five minutes because the 4 girls who were there before us were taking their time. Actually it was just the one girl who refused to get off the swing even though all her friends were ready to leave. I honestly don't know how people got on the swing because it took quite the effort for me, but then again I am short so I guess that makes it harder. My niece is 5'4" and she had a hard time getting on as well so I didn't feel too bad. I am afraid of heights so I was only able to stay on for about a minute before I wanted to jump off. Surprisingly, my daughter had no concept of fear because she really enjoyed the swing.

Yelp
5 stars for the view, 3 stars for the hike. Besides Twin Peaks Bernal Heights has the best 360 view of the city. It's even better in the sense that you are much closer to the fresh air of the Bay and you don't get a million tourists because most of them have never heard of Bernal Heights. The views are spectacular on a clear day and a lot of people just hang out and picnic looking out over the views of the city, bay, and beyond. Many people come here with their dog. For hiking there are a few different trails that go up and around the hill but there isn't a definite path so there are a few different options to explore. The incline isn't too strenuous so if you are doing this as a hike and want a better/longer workout I'd suggest incorporating some of the numerous staircases located in Bernal Heights. The Esmeralda stairs located on the Western side of the hill is probably the most popular one. It has a path directly to the trails as well as an amazing long slide.

Yelp
Great place to bring family, friends, and dogs. Coyotes are about and such fun to see natural wildlife in the city! The views are the real catch. Windy days can be great as well due to the long grass in the wind. Overall, great experience. Will be returning.

Yelp
SWING ME TO GREATER HEIGHTS! THAT'S BERNAL HEIGHTS! Located at... you guessed it! The top of Bernal Heights! This little park is quite unique and is not your standard park. It sits on I believe four hills that you're able to climb up and check out the amazing view of SF once at the summit. This mini park is VERY dog friendly. As a matter of fact, almost everyone but myself had their dog with them! It was great being able to see dogs run around at the top of the hills, either playing with each other or frolicking from hill to hill. At the very top of the highest hill, you will also come across a long swing that you're able to sit on. This swing is one of the many hidden swings you will come across all around the Bay Area! (see: https://www.freesftour.com/single-post/2017/07/30/Best-12-Spots-with-Swings-in-San-Francisco-for-Fun-and-Selfies). This swing has been captured by many visitors, and I believe, was one of the reasons why folks come here! I would like to caution you, though, that because this park sits on top of Bernal Heights, it can get windy here - even on the clearest of days. I highly suggest you bring a nice warm jacket as you may never know what type of weather it is up there! Overall verdict - a must see if you're in this SF neighborhood! Docking off 1 star given the very limited parking. Enjoy!

Yelp
Lovely park to oversee the city residential view! Great for dog walk and just to simply be here! Swing on the top of the hill to feel the free flow breeze. Joy.

Yelp
A dog park on top of the hill with a nice view of San Francisco. People go hiking up the hill with their dogs. I've seen people take pictures here, have a picnic, wedding, kids playing, and dogs running around. There is also one regular swing and one tire swing hung on a tree on top of the hill. Not much grass, mostly dirt. The hill is rocky and slightly steep. If you like to hike, Bernel Park is a 1-mile loop trail. ::Experience:: A stunning 360 view of SF! It's a short walk on top and around the hill. There are different ways you can go up to the hill. We entered at the dead end. It's a simple place with a great view. The best part is meeting all the friendly dogs and owners. We also flew a kite too. ::Tip:: Bring a jacket ::M's Notes:: -No restrooms -Small parking lot at the bottom -Park at the side of the hill -Water fountain

Yelp
If you're looking for some of the best views of San Francisco, Bernal Heights Park is it! The hike is a beginners hike, I highly recommend!

Yelp
Amazing location with the best views of the city! This unique hilltop park is a must visit to enjoy some breathtaking views of the beautiful city of SF.

Yelp
We were staying in the Bernal Heights area so we decided to hike up the hill to see the amazing 360 views of San Francisco. On the hike, you walk past a rainbow colored giant rock and at the very top a cute swing for awesome photo ops! If there are 2 of you, ask someone around to snap some photos of you together on the swing!
google avatar

Yelp
Was looking for a place to take my dog and came across this. It's dog friendly, has a tire swing and a tree swing at the top, and has a 270 degree breathtaking view of the city. The view alone sold it for me. You don't realize how high you're going up until you start seeing the top of roofs. It's a short hike that anyone and any dog can easily do. There is a short cut too, but just be careful since it's steeper and there are rocks that can make you slip, but very doable! I took the short cut with my dog and got to the top within 20? 30? minutes. I was just taken away by the view. I kept taking photos after photos haha. Once you get to the top you will find a tree swing and a tire swing that a lot of people come there to take photos of. You can continue hiking down to the other side to get down from the hill. Parking is limited on one side, but if you go through to the other side there is more parking in the residential area. Overall, spent about an hour to an hour and half going up and down and taking lots of photos. Highly recommend it to anyone in the area or looking for a nice park.

Yelp
Very Thankful my Son has been enjoying this beautiful and gorgeous scenic destination and wanted to share the experience with me! There was easy parking at the top of the hill and the walk up is very easy. There were numerous friendly dogs and happy folks enjoying a beautiful day in the city. The views are AMAZING full circle and the best part for myself is the SWING! Whhheeeeeeeeee!!!!!! I had So Much Fun sitting on the swing and enjoying the freedom that comes with your feet hanging off from the ground, wind blowing in your hair and enjoying the beautiful view all around me! I will surely return again just to enjoy the swing and views of the city!
google avatar

Corinna T.

Yelp
I've lived in San Francisco my whole life, so why haven't I swung by Bernal Heights Park sooner? It's the perfect little hike for when you don't want to go hard at the gym and you just want to soak in the city view. Don't forget the swing! You can't miss it. There will probably be a line for your turn.

Yelp
My sister is pretty great at finding the best spots to visit in San Francisco. We primarily came to this park to visit the swing at the top of the hill, but it's also a popular hiking spot for locals as well as a dog park. There's apparently a teal colored rock somewhere and a labyrinth formed by stones at the bottom of the hill (in some odd design it seemed like). We parked on Bernal Heights and ended up making a big loop and climbing over several hills before we reached the swing. There's an easier way to get to the top if you start by the labyrinth I think. But anyway you hike, you're going to get a good view when you reach the top. If it's not too hot or too cold and you're there on a good day, you'll oversee SF. We got to the top of the mountain where the swing was. Apparently somebody had just replaced the swing during Christmas and secured some new rope onto the tree, so it was much safer than the prior swing that was there. If you're afraid of heights, it's definitely a little scary pushing off of the ground and swinging into the air. The swing goes out pretty far! My sister and I came primarily to take pictures, but there were several kids who were captivated by the swing and sat there swinging for quite awhile. With the green grassy hills, clear cut roads and the blue sky as the backdrop of San Francisco, you'll definitely want to check out Bernal Heights if you're in the area!

Yelp
Gorgeous 360 degree views of the city and Bay! The swing is definitely gone. It seems the branch where the swing was previously attached has been totally cut off as well.

Yelp
I've lived in the city for a couple months and seen a lot of beautiful views. This is one of the prettiest views of the city! Sunset is probably the best time to go because you can see the sun set as the lights of the city come alive. Make sure to come early to grab a spot on the grassy (sometimes muddy) hillside!

Yelp
On a clear day you get alllllll the views of everything. I'm mean 365 views of the Bay Area. We went on a Thursday afternoon and it was not crowded. The urban hike is not long but you can add a few street blocks to increase your step count. Your fur baby is also welcome! There are also a few restaurants down the street so you can get your walk in and then enjoy snack and drinks after.

Yelp
Gorgeous view of the city and both bridges. So much fun and the weather was perfect. The trail was uphill and short. Very easy. Be careful some guy fell off the swing and landed right on top of the roots. The swing is slippery and there's roots right under with swing so you can easily trip or fall down the hill.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for so long after seeing the swing pics all over Instagram and I finally had the chance! The view was amazing and the swing was super fun! The hike was really just a short climb up a small hill. There was a very short line when we got there, and people were very kind about taking pictures for us. At one point, these little girls would not get off the swings but I could see why they wouldn't want to get off haha. It's such a fun spot if you love viewpoints and are able to find some fun in the simplest things like a good ole' swing. Super recommended if you're ever in SF!! ps. If you happen to have a hard time finding this spot like we did, it's just at the top of the hill facing the bay side, not land. And make sure to bring a jacket! It's windy up there!

Yelp
Great hike! Lots of entry points and tons of free parking throughout. The swing is still there as of 10/10/2020, not sure why the conflicting reports but here's the photo of it:

Yelp
THE POOP EMOJI ROCK IS GONE!! I came specifically to see the poop emoji rock, but it's now painted teal... Someone wrote "I miss the poop emoji" on the rock. Well, I do too! :( But I did walk up to the top and the view is great. You can see all of SF as you walk around the gated area on top. Also, there is a swing at the top! Anyone can hike this. Difficulty level is 0!

Yelp
If you aren't going to pick your dogs poop up when coming here, do not ever come back. Honestly pick it up with your bare hands if you forgot a poop bag, or even ask someone for one. This is a beautiful park tho, people just love to ruin things.

Yelp
- A lovely neighborhood with loads of stairs to climb. - This park is filled with hikers, families and dogs. - Can get windy up there, so dress in layers. - A great place for a stroll & to enjoy the views. ( See Golden Gate Bridge, twin peaks, the distant downtown) - I went there on a Sunday and parking was a breeze, perfect for Sunday walks. This was one of my favorite walks, so go check it out and enjoy the outside!!!!
