I decided to update my review, as I have not written a review on Bernardo Winery in over ten years. I have been back several times since, as I usually get there about once a year. Most recently, I was there with a friend of mine on a chilly Friday evening after work and we had a wonderful time. They are open until 8:00 PM on Fridays, making it a nice place to go if you can there there in the late afternoon/early evening. Also, in January, it is not very crowded, but still the shops, restaurant, and tasting room are open.
Anyway, I pulled into the small parking lot, right around 5 PM and found a spot right away. I was able to browse through two of the shops while I waited for my friend, and we browsed through the rest together after she arrived. They have a really lovely shop with paintings, sculptures, and other crafts from local artists. It would be a great place to buy gifts.
What I really like about this winery, is that you can get a glass of wine, and then walk around the different shops.
It was interesting that in the winter they have both sangria and mulled wine. My friend had one of each. I had two different glasses of red wine. I had the Syrah and another, but I cannot remember which. The wine was decent, but probably not my favorite of the nearby wineries. We also had dinner while we were there. We both had the smoked salmon served over bean salad which was really delicious. I would definitely order that again.
My favorite part was having different fire pits and heat lamps to sit by, creating a very peaceful evening to sit and catch up with my friend.
I do think the wine is a bit pricey in comparison with other local wineries. I also saw that they do not allow dogs. I don't really understand why, as it is basically all outdoors.
All in all, I had a lovely time, and look forward to returning.
