Bernardus Lodge & Spa

"Opened in 1999, the hotel comprises a French country–style home with copper chandeliers, whose rooms are done up in tones of terra-cotta, ocher, chocolate, and celadon; in addition, there are nine Monterey Territorial–style adobe guesthouses. "You’ll enjoy beautiful scenery all around," thanks in part to the property’s eight acres of wine vineyards and 300 rose bushes. "I was greeted with a glass of their vineyard’s wine and then escorted to my room overlooking the valley." Each "gorgeous suite" has a stone fireplace, English armoires, Italian linens, a two-person deep soaking tub, French doors that open onto private decks, and complimentary in-room wine. "Sitting by the fireplace was beyond relaxing." Lucia Restaurant & Bar has regional cuisine that’s "among the best in California."

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Bernardus to celebrate our anniversary. The grounds are stunning with flowers blooming everywhere—the flowers alone are reason to stay here. Our standard king room was very large with a patio and indoor seating area. We appreciated the small welcome gift to celebrate our special occasion. Turndown service also included complimentary lavender bubble bath which was a nice touch. ||The pool and infinity hot tubs were clean with nice vibes and had poolside beverage and food service. We ate at the on site restaurant Lucia one night, which was excellent and worth the price. The spa was lovely and we enjoyed our massages, which were very good but not great. (My only small gripe was the automatic 25% gratuity for the massages, which felt excessive for the quality and already high price of the spa services. We asked to adjust that downward which unnecessarily made me feel cheap.)||Overall, the beautiful grounds, large rooms, and great on site dining option will bring us back again!

This was our third stay in the past five years. We enjoy this resort because it is small and charming with beautiful architecture and landscaping that combine to create a quaint and relaxing environment. For this visit we chose to stay in a luxury croquet room. These rooms face south or west looking out to the croquet lawn. We wanted more sunlight and overall the small amount of activity on the lawn did not bother us. All rooms are big with fireplaces, nice bathrooms, and outdoor space. Some can be a little sun challenged and some rooms’ outdoor space is pretty exposed to other guests. ||||The hotel has a nice restaurant with an attractive outdoor seating area. The pool is large and the setting inviting. Cushions on the loungers would make it a little more comfortable. The spa is nice, but the locker rooms are a little dated. The gym is a weak point as it is small, dark, and may not be worth your time. ||||Another important reason for us choosing this property is its location in Carmel Valley, 10 miles inland from Carmel-by-the-Sea. During our June stay the pesky marine layer lingered often in town, while in the valley it was gone by 10am or never arrived. Quiet downtown Carmel Valley is a five-minute drive away and has a nice charming country town vibe with several restaurants and shops. ||||Self-parking was $30 per night and easy to do. The daily resort fee was $70 per day during our stay.

We had an outstanding stay at Bernardus Lodge & Spa. My husband and I came here for a getaway while our kids were at camp and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. The food at Lucia was amazing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The room was incredibly spacious and housekeeping was top notch, especially the turn down service where they turned on the heated floors in our bathroom. Such a treat to come back to. The adults-only jacuzzi area was peaceful and had a beautiful view and the location was very convenient for going out sightseeing or to dinner in Carmel-by-the-Sea. We can’t wait to come back!

The lodge is amazing. Loved everything about it. Service was good, food was good, we received a room upgrade so that was a huge plus and grounds are beautiful. Pool and Bocce ball lawn was fun. Landscaper on property was so kind and clearly takes amazing care of the property. Loved the location of being away from downtown area. We'll be going back!

My husband and I had the best stay for a weekend getaway. The entire property is so beautiful. It feels very well appointed, like a boutique hotel but with the amenities of a resort. My husband especially loved the adult infinity jacuzzi. We both had spa treatments which were wonderful. ||The rooms are cozy and nicely decorated. The bathrooms have heated floors. Our unit was downstairs and it was a little noisy above us, but nothing too bothersome. ||Bernardus is also between downtown Carmel and Carmel valley village which is nice because we could experience both areas. We’d love to come visit again!

If your looking to get away and need some top notch amenities and service I suggest this beautiful place. From the time you get their at checkin, you are created with a glass of wine. The room was gorgeous with a big bathtub and fireplace. Their really is no need to even leave the place. They offer great drinks, food from the restaurant. They also have a heated pool, multiple hot tubs. Pool and hot tubs are 24hr access.

Our family returns to Bernardus Lodge & Spa every year, and it never fails to exceed our expectations. From the moment we arrive, we’re welcomed with warmth, elegance, and attention to every detail. The rooms are pristine, spacious, and beautifully appointed with touches of understated luxury and comfort. Waking up to the views of the vineyards and rolling Carmel Valley hills is simply breathtaking. The restaurant is a culinary masterpiece—every dish is crafted with care and flavor that rivals the best in California. Whether it’s breakfast on the terrace or a candlelit dinner, the food is always fresh, innovative, and perfectly executed. The staff treats us like family, remembering our preferences and going above and beyond to make sure our stay is flawless. What we love most is how seamlessly the lodge blends tranquility for us as parents with fun and freedom for the kids. Whether we’re relaxing at the spa, enjoying a glass of wine by the fireplace, or exploring the grounds with the little ones, Bernardus makes every moment feel special. This place is more than a hotel—it’s our annual escape, our luxury retreat, and our home away from home. Thank you, Bernardus, for making every visit unforgettable. We’ll see you again next year.

We splurged on a room with a private outdoor jacuzzi - very special! The room is beautifully laid out, spacious, clean. Everything worked and service was top notch. Wonderful bathroom and other amenities. We weren't there long enough to enjoy the onsite amenities, but hope to come back again and do some of those. Only complaint: overly intrusive and complex online registration process by phone. Seems totally unnecessary, just ask me for my ID and credit card when I arrive.

Yelp
Incredible resort. One of my happy places. Been going to Bernardus for years and have had the pleasure to bring many other couples with us and introduce them to this magical boutique getaway. Get a villa! Your significant other will never forget the views and experience! Well deserving of its 2 Michelin keys rating and all the other awards and recognition it gets year in and year out.

Yelp
I stayed there for a race weekend because it had a serene garden and was dog friendly. Turned out that the race was cancelled and I had a full two days to hang out there. It was a godsend. One of the days they offered a tour with the person in charge of the gardens, so instead of hiking into a small car, I was walking the edible and flower gardens a on the property. The grounds manager was fantastic! I learned a few things and they offered some of Bernardus white and red to try. Gardens and wine? Sign me up. Later that evening we ate at their restaurant which was travel-magazine- beautiful and tasty Californian cuisine. The rooms were good. Fireplace, large patio for the pups to hang outside, and I think I remember some chocolates and pup treats too when we first got in. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Love the place! Much smaller than what I thought it was before coming into this property. It's sits on the corner or Carmel Valley and Laureales Grade Roads. It was a quiet Thursday winter morning. Staff was pleasant and helpful. There were other guests dining. Lucia has indoor and outdoor (covered and open) seating. Dogs are allowed in the patio seating area. I'm always in search of a good omelet so I ordered one. Although mine was made nicely, somehow the combination of ingredients (chicken apple sausage, onion, jack cheese, spinach) I picked didn't come out good. Hubby, on the other, loved and devoured his omelette (bacon, tomato, jack cheese). I did love how they cooked the potatoes. After brunch, we enjoyed walking our dog in the property. Would love to come back and try their lunch or dinner menu next time.

Yelp
AMAZ-ing establishment. You have to come here. Call ahead so you know there's a table for you. (If you are a wino you know this is a normal thing ) Anyone you work with here will impress you, especially Sally, she has a wheelhouse of knowledge. She was like a pocket book of wine facts. The education behind the wine tasting is really what made the experience. When you have someone serving you that knows the ins and outs of the industry for a lengthy period of time, you can get a full picture and it truly enriches the experience. Go here, if you really want to get to know the product. They use the best & they pick the grapes when they're ripe. It's the best wine for your pállate. I'm very sensitive to synthetic additives to wine & not a single one of these wines gave me any sort of reaction. They are well known for ALL 4 varieties, Pinot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Marinus. Locals, tourists, newly 21... don't miss the opportunity to come here and try NorCals best!!

Yelp
Hubby has been wanting to bring us to Bernardus for quite some time and we finally made it! This spa and lodge exceeded our expectations in every way possible. The fantastic food was a delightful surprise, coupled with spacious and amazing rooms that made our stay incredibly comfortable. The staff's friendliness added a personal touch to our experience, making us feel truly welcomed. And having access to the spa all day was an absolute luxury, allowing us to relax and unwind whenever we pleased. A truly unforgettable retreat! Not to mention their pool and jacuzzi is 24 hours! My 9 year old had a blast! We're definitely returning to Bernardus!

Yelp
Yelp fam!!!! When you think about luxury lodging with all the amenities available at the push of a button this is what comes to mind. The Bernardus Lodge was home for my Wife and I as we got married and began our honeymoon. First I must say the entire Staff was amazing! They truly helped me with anything and everything I needed during my stay. I was truly astonished by the level of service I received. Truly a 5 star experience. We had the pleasure of ordering room service which was very easy and fast through the app. We visited the spa on site and had a couples massage. Which was truly one of the most relaxing things ever. I would highly recommend checking out the spa services. The on site restaurant & bar are top notch. This was an experience I'll never forget & I really hope to make it back!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to spend my time. It feels like home and everything is carefully arranged and looked after. Attention to details, like remembering your name, making sure you enjoy yourself and giving you tours of the grounds and facilities are just some of the many things that make this property so special. Can't wait for my next visit.

Yelp
Bernardus Lodge is known for it's fantastic food and for hosting wonderful events! On Easter Sunday arise and enjoy this special day's buffet! Colleen gives over the top service in her personable and efficient way of accommodating your taste buds! She's always cheerful and ready to help you. You and yours will enjoy this event! Happy Easter!

Yelp
Used to be one of my favorite restaurants on the Central Coast. Chef change, added bureaucracy, charging me for other peoples' Electric Vehicle charging: I don't intend to return unless they revert to the old Bernardus. Average table service, slightly above average cuisine and difficulty getting answers to reservation questions do not entice me. Most absurd policy I discovered when I asked the manager how they can afford to pay for a bevy of electric chargers for their myriad of overnight guests. Simple, he said: we charge our diners a hidden fee, and YOU pay for it.

Yelp
10000% recommend this place for spa services! My second time and it hasn't disappointed!

Yelp
A beautiful lodge that is nestled in area away from the touristy life of Carmel. The check in process was very easy and staff was attentive and friendly. The rooms at the lodge was spacious. The room had a Kingsized bed facing the Double glass doors that open up to a nice view of the lodge and scenery. There was a nice Fireplace with sofa seating in front. This is very nice when you want to relax and enjoy the free drinks and cheese in the mini Fridge. The Restroom was grand, so much room which made it easy for all of us to move around. The pool was the kids gave. There's a bar where you can order food and drinks. There are plenty of lounge chairs and there are a couple of cabanas that can be rented for a fee. No glassware allowed, so the wine tastes different in a plastic cup, but at least there is no shattered glass on the floor while walking bare foot around the pool. The grounds was lovely. Gardens and beautiful walking areas and a nice bocce ball lawn. The restaurant was delicious. We came here for dinner and Breakfast. Lots of selections and even though we didn't have reservations, they accommodated our party well. Would come back again.

Yelp
Love everything about this Carmel Valley gem. Kind staff, beautiful grounds, rose garden and relaxing rooms that have the touch of luxury you'd expect at its price point. Their beds, linens, pillows are comfortable and I'm picky so that's a huge plus. Room refrigerator is stocked and there are two bowls one with snacks and one with fruit, all complimentary. Their restaurant Lucia is very nice as well as their onsite spa. We love the warmer weather in the valley and several wine tasting spots nearby.

Yelp
If you're planning to stay at Bernardus do not fill with your itinerary with too many outside activities. Once you get here I promise you will not want to leave! The moment we arrived we were greeted by kind and courteous staff, our car was parked, bags were taken to our room, and we were offered a complimentary glass of wine. What amazing service! We arrived a few hours early but our room was ready for us. Our two day stay was one of the most relaxing I've had. Heated bathroom floors, plush comfy robes, a big beautiful bathtub, roaring fireplace, and the most comfortable bed overlooking the Carmel Valley! It's rare that I travel to a place and just want to stay in my room, but that's exactly how I felt here. There's a heated pool, adults only infinity hot tub, and beautifully landscaped walking paths. The on-site restaurant is absolutely delicious with thoughtfully created seasonal dishes. I look forward to coming back again and again. They do everything right here!

Yelp
We spent our honeymoon at Bernardus and I still dream of how perfect it was. The rooms are incredibly spacious and the design finishes are perfection. The rooms are classy, cozy, and romantic. The grounds of Bernardus are beautiful and the garden is perfect for walking through after dinner. This is easily my favorite hotel I've ever stayed in.

Yelp
A solid 3.75 stars, but rounding to a 4. First, the property is absolutely lovely. They have beautiful flowers and plants all over. The rooms our spacious and comfortable. They give you snacks and drinks (including some wine and beer) and bath amenities when you arrive, which is such a nice touch. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We did have a few little mishaps. The first being that we weren't able to sleep through the night because there was a loud banging/clanging sound throughout the night. I think it could be a pipe, I'm not sure, but it kept us from sleeping. My husband described the sound as a basketball being dribbled. The other smaller item that happened was I really wanted to make a spa appt. I spent 11 years working and managing spas, so I know what it can be like. You get busy, sometimes you're there alone, etc, but they're still my favorite, so I wanted to try to book something. By the time we got there on Friday the spa was closing. On the website it says you can book by emailing them. So I emailed asking if they had anything for saturday or sunday and hoped they'd get back to me when they opened. On Saturday after they had been opened a couple hours I decided to call. The girl on the phone told me their last appt booked while we were talking. So I was a little disappointed that they specifically say you can email but they don't check those. They emailed me back sunday afternoon to say they had no availability. If they aren't going to look at those and try to book people as they inquire they probably shouldn't advertise booking that way. But oh well. We also ordered in room dining the first night and our food was super salty. I know that can be a preference thing, but we ordered a burger and fried and the burger was super salty, more salty than the already pretty salty fries. All in all, a lovely hotel. I am not sure if the noise issue happens a lot, but it was enough that while we enjoyed our room, we didn't get any sleep while we were there.

Yelp
This place checked every box. The staff was warm and professional, the rooms were amazing, the grounds and view were beautiful. Every detail from start to finish was thought of. From remembering our names to charging our car for our drive home (without asking), the Bernardus impressed. We had never explored Carmel Valley but will definitely be back.

Yelp
Well, it's about time I finally write my review of Bernardus Lodge and spa. Last month during the horrible weather and PG&E outages, we found ourselves at Bernardus for four nights. Thank goodness resorts, like Bernardus have large generators to keep the lights on when the lights go off. So Bernardus is located in Carmel Valley about 12 miles from Highway one. It's a pleasant drive out to the valley through the valley because it get you out of the heavy traffic that ordinarily of a company's visits to say Napa or Napa Valley and frankly Bernardus feels like Napa Valley to me. Bernards has a great vibe and terrific staff with outstanding service and beautiful, beautiful rooms and suites. We were fortunate enough to try several during our stay because we weren't sure when our lights were going back on so we couldn't commit to longer a longer duration. We took it one day at a time. And we just love being there. Kind of sorry to see the lights finally come back on laugh. You have a great restaurant call Lucia that serves breakfast lunch and dinner and includes a patio outside that is very accommodating to gas with their pets great place to just sit and enjoy some sunshine, because Carmel Valley is always warmer than the Pebble Beach Carmel area usually by about 10°. I included some photos of a suite we were lucky to receive as an upgrade to show to show you what a wonderful and relaxing setting it was to be there. We find ourselves going there frequently on the spur of the moment just to have a lunch or a dinner. It's that much fun. Since this is a review of the hotel I'm not going to describe the food we ate or the items on the menu. I'll do that separately. The grounds are beautiful. They include a spa, a large lawn area for croquet, putting it's on one property that we're vines grow and the accompanying grounds are just gorgeous. It's just a great place to relax. And frankly, isn't that what you go to a hotel for if it's not business I put this up with the very best hotels in Napa Valley for example. Please go try it enjoy it and say hi to everybody there because they'll become your friends overnight.

Yelp
We went to their Thanksgiving Buffet. 10 of us total. I called the day before to inquire about the cost. Much to my dismay, it was $176. Per person! How insane. My bad for not inquiring ahead of time. We went to Quail lodge before and it was $75. per person. We called too late to go,there this year. Ok so off we went. They put us in a room off the patio which had little charm. When we went up to the buffet, there were flies hanging out over the food. We have had some very nice breakfasts there so never imagined it wouldn't be wonderful. It was a horrible experience sorry to say. Susan Chipman

Yelp
What a wonderful 3 day anniversary weekend at Bernardus. This is a perfect getaway for a romantic weekend with your spouse or a with friends. The room was beautiful and well stocked with snacks, complimentary wine, robes and even a heated bathroom floor. We dined at Lucia two of the 3 nights. It was very romantic and nicely decorated. I highly recommend the lamb, salmon or the short rib appetizer. Service was exceptional. We enjoyed the pool all 3 days. Chris, the bartender was so nice and accommodating. You can tell he loves his job. Cute, well behaved dogs everywhere. This is a very Family friendly resort so expect to see and hear children running around. I got hit with a ball on my head at the pool but no big deal. My husband wasn't as amused lol If you want a romantic quiet place, go to the large adults only infinity hot tub. Very special. We enjoyed massages at the spa on the last day. Very nice facilities. Every single staff member we met was so nice and professional. They really are service oriented here. We will be back soon.

Yelp
My husband and I just spent 3 days here for our honeymoon and we had the absolute best time!! The property is gorgeous and every staff member we interacted with treated us so amazingly. We stayed in room 1-- one of rooms with its own private hot tub which was the best decision ever. I want to live at the Bernardus!!! I think we will come back every year. It was just amazing. The only thing we weren't crazy about was the food from their restaurant Lucia but there are many restaurants in the area to enjoy! We loved using the bocce ball course and putting greens in the evenings. Spent both our days in the pool or in our private hot tub. It was just a dream staying at the Bernardus!

Yelp
Such a beautiful property! Amazing amenities and the rooms are spacious. From the complimentary glass of wine at check in to the snacks and beverages in the room, you are well taken care of. The front office staff is kind and knowledgeable. They make you feel right at home. I recommend taking an early morning walk through their rose garden or and afternoon round of bocce near the restaurant. Definitely recommend checking out this property!

Yelp
We were looking for a dog and kid friendly location that was also nice for us, this place nailed it! Lots of areas for the kid and dog to play safely but also great for us. We can't wait to come back we always used to stay at the ranch we are now Bernardus all the way !! See you soon !! Also big shout out to Nick who delivered our meals he was great! We also loved the girls at the front desk to good with our little one :)

Yelp
No longer luxury accommodations. This was our second stay at Bernardus. Our first, was also not without issue. It was the night of our wedding, I chose Bernardus because of the large soaking tub. For the two days were were at Bernardus, the hot water did not work on the tub. The resort overall was magnificent and unforgettable. Fast forward three years, we book Bernardus again for a mid-week anniversary getaway. First, the hotel was full of very loud, intoxicated guests. Not what I was expecting but, everyone wants to enjoy themselves. We were in a Premium Santa Lucia room near the garden area. The same area we enjoyed the first time we stayed. Highly recommend the location of the room. It is quite(ish) and more secluded. I immediately checked the hot water on the tub and this is when I noticed large chunks of the bottom of the tub were busted out. I began looking around the rest of the bathroom and it was obvious this was not the luxury accommodation we were expecting at $700+ per night. There were ants, peeling paint, mushy sheetrock, chipped sinks, dented furniture, rusty fire sprinklers, wobbly tables, vine covered patio furniture, dirty and broken light switches, and poorly executed repair work. I spoke with the front desk regarding the condition of the room. They offered to move us to a different room. I checked the other room, the issues were similar and the location was near what I imagine was a bachelorette party. We declined and stayed in our garden view location. When checking out I happen to meet the Director of Rooms. I asked if we could discuss my stay. He obliged and we stepped outside. I showed him photos of the issues. He indicated they would be looking into them. He offered for us to stay again and give Bernardus another try. I am not sure when we will try again but, I will update my review. A few other petty items, the sheets are quite rough, the bubble bath (which is amazing) was not included in our toiletries, also the Mercedes Drive Program cars need to be detailed and are in need of new tires.

Yelp
Had a beyond five star stay at Bernardus Lodge and spa for my birthday weekend. Could not recommend this spot more highly. The grounds are meticulous, the rooms spacious and beautifully designed and the service impeccable. Every single staff member we encountered, was professional, upbeat, kind, and helpful. You truly feel like you're being whisked away to a very special place. So many wonderful amenities with tons to do right there at the resort. Great dining, spa, lawn games! Best of all you can take one of their convertible Mercedes out for a four hour spin. We did 17 mile drive and it was lovely. I left some thing behind the hotel, and they kindly found it and shipped it to me at no charge. I hope to be back again and again!

Yelp
The professional and experienced staff at Bernardus make this an exceptionally easy resort to relax and enjoy every moment. Cristal at reception is very helpful and professional. She starts your vacation off with a welcoming check in. The gardens and grounds are outstanding, with maze hedges, rose garden and hill top view gated jacuzzi. Many private areas to reflect and enjoy, intermingled with mature grape vines. Everything is well done and thought of, with rooms and services that offer technology and an eco friendly environment.

Yelp
Service was exceptional. We shared the burger and the chicken Sando. The house chardonnay was awesome!

Yelp
Bernardus Lodge and Spa checks all of the boxes! It's such a beautiful venue and an amazing place to stay year round even during the winter months. The rooms are about the best we've experienced. We love the rustic yet modern decor and the fireplace in the room, especially when it's cold outside. We love the resort feel and the ambience that surrounded us, not just the rooms, but the spa, the bar, the restaurant, the sitting area and the entire grounds. The entire staff is professional, accommodating, welcoming and genuinely friendly, too! I can't wait to begin planning our next stay.

Yelp
My fiancé and I were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to relax and also bring our fur baby with us. We decided on Bernardus and were so happy here! We really wish we booked another night there! The property was pretty dark at night. Apple Maps took us to the service entrance which connects to their parking lot. It loops around so we eventually ended up at valet, but you can self park in their parking lot. Upon arrival we were welcomed by staff who were all masked. We felt immediately comfortable when they bent down to pet our excited furball. He's jumpy and they didn't seem to mind at all. There's a $150 fee for a dog. He was allowed nearly all over the grounds except for the pool and Jacuzzi areas. Pretty much every staff person we came across gave him attention, which he loved. He even got extra treats from a few of them! Very very dog friendly! We booked a garden room and it had a private patio with a view of the pool. We didn't see this until the next afternoon though as our blackout curtains really kept the light out! Our room was clean and comfortable. There were a variety of complementary snacks and drinks. Our pup loved his milk bones. There was also a very cushy bed, food bowl and water bowl for his use. We enjoyed the large soaking tub and our bed was sooo comfy. The only drawback I noticed was the creaking floors or heels clacking along the upper floors. We were on the lower floor so we would hear it ever so often. I'm sure they heard our pup barking! There is so much to do at Bernardus itself. There is a lovely restaurant on premises, Lucia, tennis courts, croquet, pool, spa, and garden. I wish I brought my bathing suit as the pool was heated! It was also extremely relaxing and fun to just walk around the grounds. They were impeccably groomed! Other eateries and a hiking trail is 5-10 minutes away. We highly recommend Bernardus! Thank you to the amazing staff that made our stay so memorable.

Yelp
Lovely property but the pool area is basically a jungle gym for children to run around, scream at the top of their lungs, and do canon balls. After today's experience, I certainly wouldn't recommend to a couple looking for a quiet getaway. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Recently enjoyed a 3 night stay here. Everything was perfect. The room, the amenities, and especially the staff. Enjoyed lunch and dinner at the restaurant and couldn't have been more pleased with it all. Not a single misstep at all in 3 days and nights and that's very rare these days.

Yelp
This is a positive one star review. Because after seven months of holding my "authorization fee" Bernardus Lodge finally refunded it to me, otherwise this would have been a minus ten review and I would have been the one to spearhead the campaign to award negative stars. I didn't catch the double charge of $583 until four months after my stay. I contacted Bernardus Lodge about this duplicate charge and they told me the duplicate charge is typically an "authorization" which is immediately refunded, and their billing records reflected only one charge. They told me that my credit card company made a mistake because they didn't receive the second charge and I would have to take it up with them. After sending all of the documentation to my credit card company, they denied payment to me because they said Bernardus Lodge did not pay back the second charge and it was past the 60 day window for disputes. This was not considered as fraud. I called Bernardus Lodge many times and explained to many people the situation and they forwarded me to their billing department multiple times, in addition to being put on hold, wait to speak to a manager and so on. The last manager I spoke to did find that the authorization system made a mistake and returned the charges. This is not the treatment I expect from a luxury hospitality establishment. Because it was Bernardus Lodge's system that made the mistake, they should have taken the responsibility for it and refunded me immediately. Instead I had to take on the headache and hassle which is not even worth a stay at the hotel. As for my stay, I give it one star. The staff was dismissive and unwelcoming. For example, they were so stingy to refuse my guest a refill on the complimentary lemonade from their dispenser. I did notify Bernardus Lodge that we were there to celebrate a birthday and they couldn't afford to give her extra sugar water, which is very sad.

Yelp
Bernardus Lodge is an oasis of relaxation and simple luxury amidst beautiful surroundings. From start to finish, our stay was delightful! The best part about Bernardus is that it's uber pet friendly! Our pup was welcomed nearly everywhere! She was able to accompany us at breakfast and lunch. It was great seeing dogs of all shapes and sizes everywhere. Our room was spacious and beautifully furnished. It was a perfect respite after a long day of playing tourist. We thought it was great that our mini fridge was full of complimentary drinks. The bed and couch were comfortable and we enjoyed quite a few naps on both. Dining options are just right for the location. We enjoyed daily breakfast and especially enjoyed having breakfast on the patio near the fire pit. The french press Illy coffee is one of the best I've ever had! The lodge grounds is stunning. Lavender was everywhere and the scent permeates the air. I highly recommend walking through the gardens. They are well maintained and simply magical. The staff at Bernardus are very friendly, well trained, and professional. They are warm and welcoming from the moment you arrive until it's time to check out. Room rates are high but so very worth it! We loved our visit to Bernardus and can't wait to return!

Yelp
My friend and I came on a weekday for a ladies trip, and Bernardus absolutely blew us away. From the moment we walked in, not only is the lodge gorgeous, clean, elegant, and classy, but we were greeted by such lovely staff that went above and beyond for us. Needless to say, our stay exceeded my/our expectations, and I have never had such prompt, friendly and genuine customer service. We cannot wait to come back to this beautiful place!

Yelp
My family and I stayed here the week before Christmas and had such a wonderful time. The customer service was impeccable -- the parking attendant, guest check-in, and room service folks were all professional and fast. The property grounds are beautiful and the room was so cozy. My kids loved the fireplace! We look forward to coming back here again for future visits.

Yelp
Stayed for two nights at Bernardus - fabulous, cozy resort. It was quiet, peaceful yet vibrant with the Holiday decorations. All the staff were fabulous! All had smiles, were very helpful and accommodating. We loved it so much we have reservations in Feb. to return. I cannot speak highly enough about the accomodations, the service and the ambiance.

Yelp
We do not have enough kind words to say about our stay at Bernardus Lodge and Spa. I had planned a surprise engagement weekend with my now fiancé to Carmel Valley, and I reserved a Premium Santa Lucia King room. Little did I know that we would be upgraded to a stunning Vineyard Villa when we arrived! This multi-room home had two bathrooms, a stocked fridge with complimentary drinks and snacks, two fireplaces, massive ceilings, heated (yes, heated) bathroom floors, a large bath, three shower heads, a private outdoor shower, an outdoor fireplace, etc. The list goes on. It was such a special and unexpected surprise, and we are so grateful for their generosity. Additionally, every staff member was kind, patient, and personable. The valet was quick to retrieve our car and help unload our luggage. The front desk associates were excited to greet us and took their time walking us through the layout of the property. The spa associates were equally patient and kind; every interaction felt warm and genuine. Although we did not personally receive spa treatments, we were happy with the many amenities. Resort guests may use the locker rooms equipped with storage lockers, showers, a sauna, and a steam room. There was also a central warming room with complimentary drinks and snacks, and we enjoyed the outdoor warming pool and relaxation chairs. However, one of the best experiences of the entire trip was borrowing a Mercedes-Benz E53 AMG convertible and driving down the coast on Highway 1. All residents have access to three of their Mercedes-Benz models, which are usable on a first-come, first-serve basis. We walked down to the valet early on Sunday morning and had our selection of all three models. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and you only needed to pay for gas. I do not often leave reviews, but we are so happy with our stay at Bernardus Lodge and Spa that it was necessary. We look forward to returning for future anniversary vacations to Carmel Valley.

Yelp
One of the best places to stay in the Carmel area. This resort is located in Carmel Valley. So you get a little warmer weather. Everything is still a short drive away. Not that you would go anywhere. All you need is right here. Surrounded by the Bernardus winery, you get views of the grapevines and rolling hills that are just beautiful. Very peaceful and the best place to relax from everyday life. They will spoil you! The rooms are stocked with plenty of goodies to eat and drink. Pool, spa and even an adults only spa for a relaxing soak. Every time I stay here, I make new memorable memories. Highly recommended!

Yelp
One word: Fancy! Perfect place to treat yo'self or your significant other. Possibly marry or celebrate a birthday. No matter the occasion, Bernardus really is a beautiful location with some delicious wine. Even if I can't go all out here (yet), their red wine is really something I like to treat myself to. Beautiful inside and out. Live music. Attentive staff. Great food and wine. All around nice. But yes, $$$$. Witnessed a private birthday celebration happening in one of their private dinner areas and it was so beautifully decorated I wanted to cry. One day I will be able to truly experience this place. For now I will work hard and enjoy an ocasional glass of their delicious red wine. Cheers!

Yelp
Very slow and inattentive service. Disappointing for a place this nice. Hopefully they will start to prioritize guests experiences at some point.

Yelp
This once amazing place is now equal to a motel 6 with a 7/11 as a restaurant! We used to visit often and when we went these last couple of times we were treated like shit! Sorry for the language but that's exactly how our party of 8 felt! Such a shame, I hope it gets bought out and someone with honesty and respect buys it!!! Would never recommend this failing establishment ever again!

Yelp
Spectacular hotel. My room was beautiful with a fireplace and balcony seeing nearby mountains. The restaurant was spectacular with a nice wine selection. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and made wonderful suggestions. I will definitely visit this hotel again.

Yelp
This was an amazing stay with one hiccup, hence the four and not five star review. Let me start with the positives. The property and rooms are immaculate, second to none in the area. We stayed in the Premium Santa Lucia room. The balcony, in room fire place and heated bathroom floors were great touches. We loved the spa amenities as well. Walking through the rose garden and the infinity adults only hot tub on the property were also highlights of our stay. Now for the hiccup... I had called prior to our stay to request an early check in, knowing that our flight was arriving super early. I arrived at the hotel around 10:45a, normal check in is at 4p. I was told we'd be staying in one of two available Santa Lucia rooms and that I'd be contacted when it was ready. I opted to have lunch at the hotel on the patio in the meantime. It was so fresh and delicious. Loved the welcome glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Their best varietal in my opinion. After lunch, I went back to the lobby around noon, to charge my phone and wait it out and happened to be sitting right by the front desk. There was a large wedding staying at the hotel that night. Some wedding attendees came in around 1 and were immediately checked in to a Premium Santa Lucia room. It was pretty disappointing considering I'd gotten there before them and it wasn't the bride/groom. From there, we then had to ask about our room readiness on three separate occasions. We kept being told it was clean, but needed to be approved, and that went on for approximately two hours. We didn't get checked in until around 3. Not a great service experience that I'd expect from this level of hotel. We'd love to return here and give it another shot. I booked because they are a Mercedes partner hotel and the Drive program where you can test new vehicles is great, but I don't think they'd expect their guests to have this kind of service. A free room upgrade, if available, is also part of the Mercedes program, which I'm assuming wasn't available. After that day, though, everyone we interacted with was friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Bernardus was a great getaway for a weekend. I came here for a babymoon. The lodge has pools, hot tubs, and gardens that can be walked through. The rooms are also super nice, clean, and comfortable. The bathrooms are luxurious and have large tubs and heated floors. The lodge restaurant has good food. It's Also close to Carmel so there's plenty to do in the area. I can't wait to come again

Yelp
Second visit here. Our first (January 2019) was nothing short of perfect. This time (August 2020), my beautiful wife and I were greeted in the lobby with a lovely glass of Bernardus Sauvignon Blanc. The staff are wonderful (Diego at the pool kept me hydrated with adult beverages to tune out the pitter patter of the Vaqueros - more about that later; Chelsea telephoned a couple weeks before our visit to make sure my wife's birthday was memorable; and Henry, our cocktail server is charming, knows his wine, and made great recommendations for outings). Back to the Vaqueros - kids have taken over this property similar to the way Hitler invaded Poland. They are everywhere. The parents are either horrible, drunk, or clueless. They depend on hotel staff to manage the unmanageable. One woman, who's hot husband must have been out golfing to get away from her and her poor excuse for a spawn, shared that in Italy pools are meant for viewing, not splashing, and conversations were quiet. Let's go to Italy - it sounds like what Bernardus used to be. Alas, my suggestions for a family vacation (you know, where the kids can break stuff, and make things miserable for us romantics): Arcades; Budget Inn; Chuck E Cheese; Dollar Tree; Great America (but stay away from Disney); KOA Motel 6; Notel Motel; Putt Putt Golf; Walmart.

Yelp
We had a great experience on our 4-night stay at Bernardus. Their restaurant is really good with a nice wine list. Staff throughout the resort were very friendly and helpful. Our room was in good condition, spacious and clean. We can't wait to go back for another visit!

Yelp
Stayed one night for a sweet birthday getaway. Super relaxing at this nice Carmel Valley hotel and spa. Arrived mid day and were greeted with a nice chill glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Room was not ready but we sat outside on the patio listening to some live music. It was a little hot to play bocce or putt golf but after the wine decided to borrow their Mercedes AMG Coupe for a spin through the valley. Fun ride! Rooms are huge and have super comfy beds. Big jacuzzi style bathtubs and patios with chairs. Nespresso coffee makers and a mini fridge with complimentary wine and beer. Was going to go to the pool by the screaming kids were a turn off. Chilled on the deck instead until dinner time. Next morning enjoyed the adult only hot tub. We were the only ones there for hours. So nice and relaxing! They have a small gym and tennis courts but not enough time to enjoy it all. Definitely worth a night or two for a relaxing get away!
