Where to Eat London’s Best Dumplings | Eater London

"Lithuanian cuisine is an exercise in how many combinations of pork, potato, and dairy it’s possible to eat before exhaustion sets in — with enough sauerkraut and beetroot horseradish, the answer is “all of them”. The high point of the entire cuisine is surely cepelinai — little zeppelin balloon dumplings — which, at Leytonstone’s Lithuanian chain pub Berneliu Uziega, come stuffed with pork or cheese curds, the potato casing providing a proper Taiwanese QQ texture, with a genius chopped bacon and onion condiment on the side." - Jonathan Nunn

Yesterday, Me and my family went to Etno Dvaras first as it was most recommended for Lithuanian traditional food. We were not very happy with the menu and decided to move to Bernelių Užeiga as we went there the day before in Kaunas. The menu has many more choices and way better prices, they also have a special menu available which I chose from - boiled potatoes with chanterelles in cream sauce. It was delicious and very fresh. I asked the waiter if it was enough for one person (which I still think it is !) but I said that if I was given on zeppelin I wouldn’t say no - and he brought me one for half a price of a portion ! My brother ordered a beer side as his main meal and it was huge! We all shared as a starter. My mum had a chicken Kiev - also very delicious with mushrooms. My dad had a delicious looking pork neck with sauces. A little bit of waiting time (around 49mins) as a big tourist group came right with us but we were told about it in advance and had a beer and the beer side dish to enjoy as we waited. I found out they have a restaurant in London and will definitely go there if I’m around. Such a great place and staff. Thank you! ❤️

We headed here when it was really hot day. We ordered for ourself beetroot soup, dumplings with meat (Cepelinai), and 1 liter of Gira (fermented bread drink)and for snacks - rye fried bread with cheese sauce. The waiter was nice, friendly, and very polite. He patiently took the order and got us Gira in 10 minutes. We were amazed that this place had homemade Gira, and the taste was also really good. Different and pleasing. After waiting a bit longer we got rye fried bread with melted cheese. The fried-bread seemed fresh and home made too. After a long wait came the Cepelinai with fried bacon toppings. It was tasty but super heavy. After eating it we felt super full and sleepy. I would say it’s heavy to eat Cepelinai in hot weather, rather eat it when it’s cold weather. Total amount we paid was 37.50, which is quite affordable for 3 people. In general everything was nice but we had to wait so long to eat dishes. The place takes a long time to cook and its always full. So i would say yes it’s a great place to eat, but you need to wait long.

We ate here last night. Beautiful cave design inside. Our salmon dish was very good. But the beef tenderloin was far from what we're used to in USA. We had to return it and they gave us a pork dish. It was okay. They had everything working well except the meat quality. We expected high quality meat from a restaurant that look like very upscale.

We came to this place to try traditional lithuanian dishes. We entered the garden and stood next to the table with the menu - the waitress passed us several times without any signs of interest. It was early evening and there were free tables. We decided to go inside - there we met a waiter who asked us where we wanted to sit - inside or in the garden - we chose the garden and were shown to a table. After ten minutes waitress - the same that earlier missed us - came to take our order: handmade pork stuffed ravioli served with mushroom sauce - according to the waitress, these are traditional Lithuanian dumplings - koldūnai; grated potato dumplings stuffed with minced meat served with sour cream, fries onions and bacon - according to the waitress, these are traditional Lithuanian cepelinai. To drink we decided on local beer. Food came after 30 minutes - ravioli was nice, meat was well seasoned, the dough was ok and only the mushroom sauce was weak - three pieces of mushroom is very bad. Potato dumpling were ok - meat was well seasoned but potato mass was bit too hard. Beer was good - unfiltered, darker in color, pleasant in taste with low bitterness. Overall place is really nice, food is tasty and the weaker part was waitress - no smile, no interest, no information on how long you will have to wait for the food...

We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant! The interior is beautiful and really allows you to dive into Lithuanian culture. We ordered the big platter of traditional Lithuanian dishes and also tried the soups – everything was absolutely delicious. A special thanks goes to our waiter, Edgaras. His service was outstanding – attentive, warm, and truly made us feel welcome. We are from France, and when he added a few phrases in French, it instantly made us feel at home. That thoughtful touch turned a great dinner into an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

The food was authentic Lithuanian and it was delicious. The service was a little slow and the server kept forgetting to bring things we ordered... so we had to remind her we were still waiting for our water, coke, salt, etc. The atmosphere was okay, but we knew up front that it was no frills. All and all, I would be willing to go there again

Let me put it this way – the food was absolutely delicious, aromatic and memorable, but the service left a lot to be desired. We came here for lunch after a walk around the center of Vilnius. We had to wait a bit for a table for five, which surprised us since we saw free tables around. It turned out, however, that none of them could accommodate an extra chair. Then, when they finally found another table for us, we saw that a chair had been added to another one. That was odd. From the very beginning, the waitress didn’t seem very welcoming. She seemed quite indifferent, maybe even a bit rude, but I thought – okay, it happens. Then we struggled with the menu, which was poorly designed and hard to read, especially the English translations. It took us several minutes to find the cepelinai, as they were listed under a long, descriptive name that didn’t reference their traditional term. The menu didn’t seem to take cultural similarities into account. Maybe the description would make sense to someone unfamiliar with regional food, like an American tourist, but for us, as Poles, it was just confusing. Eventually, using the restaurant’s website, we managed to locate the dishes we wanted and were ready to order. But then we had to wait again for the waitress to come back and take our order. When she finally did and the food started to arrive, we thought the worst was behind us – and for the most part, it was. First, the drinks arrived, but not all at once. Then my friend got his soup, and I waited for mine. Turns out the waitress wrote it down but forgot about it. So I ended up eating my soup only after he had finished his, and it came at the same time as my cepelinai. We had also ordered mushroom sauce with the cepelinai, but that was forgotten too, and we had to ask for it again. I hope it’s just a bit of chaos in the dining area, but I wouldn’t say the place was too busy to handle. It seemed more like a lack of coordination or not enough staff. Also, taking orders by hand on paper feels outdated – it makes it easier to make mistakes, as we experienced twice. Now about the food – both the meat and vegan cepelinai were phenomenal, the soups were aromatic, and the koldūnai were juicy and full of flavor. And that’s exactly what frustrates me – the food passed the test, but the service did not. I might come back eventually, but not too soon. I’m simply used to a different kind of service in restaurants.

This restaurant serves traditional Lithuanian food and seems to do a very good job of it. I’m not Lithuanian so I can only go by what my Lithuanian friends and Vilnius friends tell me. I loved the food. The menu is large and they have a variety of dishes to choose from. Their drink selection is also quite robust. We were able to get a table right away without reservations. Our disappointment in this venue had to do with the atmosphere and vibe as well as the service. There were large screen TVs, the music was very loud, and this gave it a bit of a sports bar type feel. It took us a long time to get a dessert menu, then even longer (nearly 40 minutes) for our server to come get our desert order. We also had to wait a significant amount of time before we could even get our servers attention to get our check. The server was very nice but the place was understaffed. The meal was fairly priced and tasty.
