We love this place! The service is fast and friendly. They have such unique products. We get frozen savory dishes to bring home for dinner and we are never disappointed! We love the chocolate chip cookies. The are some of the best I've had! We also love the savory breakfast options and the pretzel ecke. If you haven't had one you have to try it! We love everything here.

Great little German bakery north of Atlanta by Dobbins Air Base. I got some liverwurst that is fantastic! It goes really well with my fresh sourdough bread for sandwiches. I ordered the schnitzel sandwich and my buddy got the brat. Both of them were winners. You need to get some pastries, cookies and every item you can from this great store.

I recently discovered this bakery & deli, all natural ingredients no preservatives , the taste of fresh bread and pastries mouth watering and satisfying. I highly recommend this place. Health is wealth that’s what you’re putting into your body, my respect to this family own bakery.

The French Melt was the best thing I tried, it was so good, the croissant was fresh and flaky and the meat and cheese were quality and abundant. They have a great selection. There are artisan breads, hot coffee, hot tea, cakes, pastries, and other baked goods. They also have a small selection of German packaged goods such as candies, teas, coffees, crackers, and refrigerated meats and cheeses. They may want to attend to their pastries a little more as a lot of the the items I bought were dry, perhaps day old. The store is very clean and well maintained. Try to bring card or small bills as a large bill that a customer in front of my used seemed to slow them down a bit since they didn't have enough in the register to break it and had to wait for the owner to bring more cash to them. Overall it was good and I would come again, I'd just be more selective when it comes to the pastries and make sure they're fresh.

This was our first time stopping in after years of passing by. What a great little place! Authentic German foods. So many delicious things to choose from. Different sauce/gravy mixes, noodles, treats… freezers full of soups, gravies, meats, cheeses… fresh baked breads, pretzels, pastries, etc… I could have bought out the whole place but came out with some yummy things. We got a Ham and Cheese pretzel for the road and it was delicious. We can’t wait to come back!

Their website has helpful descriptions of their breads and ingredients. First time visitor and I got a large sourdough for myself and my family. We love it and will definitely be getting more. Staff is friendly and helpful. Half of the location offers dry, refrigerated, or frozen German goods.

We’ve been here so many times and I can’t believe I’ve never left a review!! Love this bakery, what a wonderful neighborhood amenity if you live in the area and their breads are delicious and very reasonably priced! I don’t often go for the pastries but my favorites are the nutcracker with hazelnuts and during the holidays their stollen is a must.

I literally haven’t even left the parking lot yet. I had to get on and write this review RIGHT NOW. I got a muffuletta and a cream horn and it was, no joke, the best lunch of my life. The sandwich was absolutely perfect, the bread was fresh, the cheese was fresh, the cream horn was soft and crispy and not overly sweet. I will be back TOMORROW. Do they do weddings??? Birthday parties??? Can they move into my house and make me food this good every day?

Was so excited to find a German bakery. Great variety and very friendly. Cookies were delicious, and the German Chocolate Cake was good. I also enjoyed looking at their grocery area and seeing the different foods that was offered. Will definitely be back!

We stopped into this tiny bakery/lunch counter/store for some German goods and to pick up lunch. They fit a lot into a small space! We loved our food, and enjoyed all the German goodies we got in the shop. But best of all were the fresh baked breads and Kaiser rolls that we bought. So fresh and delish! Staff at the counter were efficient and friendly.

Don't pass this by one more day, you must stop here! Do you want to feel special? Have lunch here. Do you have a special someone in your life who needs a cake? This is the place to get a special cake for a special occasion ready made absolutely gorgeous! Need some beautiful crusty bread for your dinner? This is the place to stop. Have a special Office to bring something better than donuts too? Impress them with the pastries and cookies from the bakery. Fill your charcuterie board with delicacies from their refrigerator section. Don't skip the mustard in the back and the pickled options in the back because they will add a special yummy flavor and color to your charcuterie board. A++

I just haven't had anything to complain about. Everything I taste is always delicious and fresh. At least as far as pastries goes! I haven't tried the sandwiches yet but plan on trying those next! The Poppi raisin roll is my favorite. I also get my sandwich bread from here instead of the big box stores. Rhi

Picked up a sourdough boule from Bernhard's yesterday. The flavor was delicious, but the crust was hard (even for a sourdough). Perhaps I should go earlier in the day next time (because I will certainly be back). I also enjoyed a chocolate pastry. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a chocolate cake topped with a layer of chocolate mousse and enrobed in a chocolate ganache. My husband and I shared that and fought over the last bite. So, while the sourdough isn't the best I've ever had, we will return for the pastries and the friendly service! 3.5/5 for sourdough 5/5 for the chocolate pastry 5/5 for service

Really authentic family run bakery. Great selection of pastries, bread, and groceries as well as delicious lunch options. The staff was very friendly and purposeful and my sandwich was excellent!

Bernhards is a great place to come and get fresh baked goods. Hands down some of the best pretzels in Atlanta. Among the baked goods, they have several imported goods from all parts of Germany and some UK items which is a great relief since I don't have to bug family members to send me care packages. If you want to see something interesting, get yourself some Haribo gummie bears. Imported Haribo is better than the ones that come from the US/Mexico. The flavor is better, the colors are more natural. They don't have a place to eat inside anymore. They used to have a section a long time ago, but it seems that was removed a while back. It would be neat if they had some benches outside along the fence they got to the right though as I've gotten some of their sandwiches and ate them in my car, since there isn't really a place to sit. Highly recommend along with getting their Pretzel Eckt, which is pretzel dough folded like a crecent with layers of butter between. GET THIS.

Pretzel Eche is delish. Try them with knockwurst. So glad to find this place...the pretzel bread and rolls are great too

I went to Bernhard for the first time today. The Apple strudel was sooo good, flaky, moist, apples cooked just right. Also bought sourdough bread, can't wait to try it.

I didn't even know this place existed until recently and I drive by it after work almost everyday!! But a coworker recommended it and I had to try it. This place is very no frills and is not only a bakery but has a little grocery store inside and freezer items that you can get. I got a hazelnut corner and the doner kebab sandwich. The hazelnut corner was great! Not too sweet and a great crumbly texture. I want to go back and get more of their bakery items because they have so many and they all look delicious! The doner kebab was equally delicious. They were very generous with the meat and whatever bread they use is excellent. I also loved how they gave a bunch of onions on the side. This is definitely a grab and go kind of place as there's no place to sit inside but they're very quick, especially if you call ahead of time! Definitely recommend, it's a great lunch spot since it's quick and easy

The staff is really nice and accommodating. We ordered a 14" Black Forest Cake and it was Heavenly. The coffee is really good too. I side they have displays of fresh pastries, some frozen soups and sauces that can be reheated at home. They also have frozen brochen when can be baked at home. The store also has some German products for purchase.

I ordered a coconut mango 3 layer cake for a Mardi Gras party. It was amazing! Bernhard and I spoke several times and he was spot on with what I wanted! I would recommend him for any baked items! Fantastic!

I try their hot dog wrapped in pretzel dough and it was good. I tipped it in mustard as I ate. Their country rye bread is very good.

I stopped by this place as I was driving through Marietta. Nothing fancy but it have some great fresh baked bread and sandwiches that I really enjoyed. I got this multigrain loaf of bread for 50% off and it lasted for days. The tuna sandwich was delicious and it was fun looking through their little store that sells all kinds of treats and meats. Also the cashier was super friendly and very helpful in recommending items! I will definitely be back.

Visited during a business trip to the area. Great selection of fresh breads and pastries. Good German breakfast and lunch selections. They also have a selection of German groceries too. Will make this a place to stop whenever I am in the area!

In support of small businesses, I had to write a review of this lovely establishment. I was gifted their Black Forest Cake for my birthday. This type of cake is rarely found in today's confectionery choices. Needless to say, I was thrilled, not just with it as a gift but the cake was AMAZING - delicate & chocolaty with the lovey flavors of cherry and liquer, the frosting light and not overpowering. Having fond memories of that birthday cake, I found their business in a modest plaza in Marietta. Venturing inside, my eyes were delighted with the offerings of so much more than cake - meats, cheeses, soups, breads, fruit spreads & preserves (lingonberry, black currant, & gooseberry to name a few), sandwiches, and of course, a variety of sweets for everyone. So not only did I purchase another Black Forest cake to share with family (which was a HIT), but I grabbed a pastrami sandwich, and - as luck would have it, found an old favorite - Ritter Sport candy bars. When a foodie finds a little slice of heaven, all is well with the world! :) The small staff are very accommodating and helpful with whatever questions one might have, but I definitely recommend to NOT rest on your laurels. Visit and partake of their edible delights - the trip is well worth it. BON APPÉTIT)!

Bernhard's is the Bomb! This place is something truly special. I tell friends about it frequently, the man is a genius with bread and the pastries are just as tasty!

I have driven by the place a couple of times over the years, but never stopped in. Honestly, I could have kept driving. The main reason I was disappointed was the price. Yelp said $6.45, but their website said $7.45 for a Tuna Salad sandwich, so I'm just scratching my head as to why, even at $7.45, two Tuna Salad sandwiches came up as $20. I called in the order, so maybe the lady I spoke to didn't tell me that the type of bread you get is extra, if that is a think. I got the white sourdough bread, but still. Additionally, if a sandwich is going to be $10 a piece, I would like it to actually fill me up. Even with two sandwiches I was still hungry. Small portions on the bread, like the bread should not be the sandwich, what's inside should be, at least in my opinion. Unlikely to go back, the cost to portion size ratio just isn't there for me. Cute shop though, and the people there were really friendly.

The pastries, sausages and baked goods are as German/ Austrian/ Swiss as it gets. No one in the US makes what they do as authentically as Bernhard's. The fruit danish, schnecken, bee-stings, you simply don't see and they are absolutely perfect!

Ordered a bunch of desserts to try and loved them all! Chocolate dome & eclairs were the favorites!

Having lived (short time) and visited Germany a few times, this is a 100% authentic German Bakery/Deli. When in the area, we always stop by for a delicious hot sandwich, and take home many frozen meal items, deli items, and bakery goods. Highly recommended... Five Stars

Nice service and inviting environment; however, the food was a meh for me. Order the slice of German chocolate cake and a butter pecan cookie. The cookie was so dry and tasteless & the cake batter tasted more like a store bought boxed cake mix.

This place was so good! We were coming home from the rennaisance festival and stopped by here because I was looking for something sweet. They had so much cool stuff inside! They've got a small market full of meats, cheese, some prepared foods, and European groceries inside + a bakery/cafe side with all sorts of pastries, cookies and breads and even pretzels. They were super kind and I didn't know what anything was so the woman working had to explain half the pastries to me. Sorry for the screenshots.. yelp wouldn't load my photos gallery but for the first 100 ish photos and we had a busy past weekend! I loved the cream puff pastry and the chocolate done. Honestly, everything was good even the German potato salad! Give this place a try - it's worth a visit. They have a private parking lot shared with the other store in the strip.

Giving them 5 because they have some great German staples I haven't been able to find anywhere else in Atlanta yet. A little small but their bread is fresh and it's honestly the largest selection outside Germany I've ever seen. Considering Germany is know for their 200+ breads I was very happy to see their options. Not as strong in the deli meats area but a lot of good haribo not found in US stores - especially the licorice. I also love that they try so hard to be friendly the American way even though it's not typical for German service. I appreciate the effort they make. PS - don't go Sat if you can avoid it, they are crazy busy then as everyone's getting their weekend shopping in. But if you do they'll thank you for your patience and again, the bread is delicious and worth the wait. Haven't tried the sandwiches but they looked very authentic to what I had while living there. A fun European find

Erika was very helpful at the front counter. She had great suggestions and knew her product. The owner is lucky to have her. We purchased the muffaleta sandwich (13.+ dollars). The price of ingredients has risen so much recently that I feel this sandwich was worth every penny. The bread was crisp on the outside and soft inside and the meat and olive mix worked absolutely perfectly. It was made fresh quickly and packaged perfectly. We also picked up some pastries ,croissants and a loaf of some incredibly delicious looking Bread(pic attached). I picked up some German mustard and can't wait to try it. They had a dry grocery section that was filled with German goodies. I will definitely be back when I am in the area. The owner was there busy making the fresh products and seemed to be very passionate about his business, and it showed in all of the products we looked at . The cake display was so good that my mouth watered just staring at it.

YO I can't believe I'm even reviewing this place because I want to keep this little gem to myself. Just a short hop down Atlanta road headed in the cereal direction of the Marietta Square you'll almost miss a tiny German Bakery on the left in the corner or a small strip. The goodies are to die for. Go at 8am, because they will run out- trust me. A croissant and a pretzel made a baby and its called a Pretzel Eke. And they are just slightly warm so you'll need two. One to share with someone and one to eat on the way to share with someone. Holy moly they are so freakin' good. I have literally had maybe 3-4 other things sandwiches and cheese danish type stuff -all excellent but it's just overshadowed by this masterpiece of chewy salty goodness. Go get one- or don't! More for me.

I go here often for authentic German food. Growing up in PA we tended to eat a lot of German based dishes so this is my go to place for staples. They have fresh bread baked daily and a ton of varieties. My favorite is the Russian sourdough. The German potato salad is delicious and my kids love it. There is a lot of frozen ready to heat meals and soups which have all been tasty.

Excellent baked goods- rye bread very flavorful and substantial--poppyseed coffee cake very tasty! Enjoyed several soups- - were hearty, cabbage soup and tomato soup excellent accompaniment for bread and protein - staff helpful-and enthusiastic

I am not German so I can't speak to the authenticity of their baked goods, I can tell you that I have traveled throughout Germany and Europe and I love this bakery. My favorites are probably the apple cake and apple tarts. It's always hard to decide what to get, The case is full of so many beautiful pastries! So I end up getting a huge selection. If they have banana bread in stock, pick up a loaf! it's probably the best banana bread I've ever had! The muffaletta sandwich is incredible! The lady behind the counter is always helpful and incredibly patient with all of my questions.

We are so thrilled to have found this wonderful German gem! I got the chance to bring my Oma here for lunch before she passed and came back for a bunch of goodies for a memorial. They have a full grocery, prepared foods both fresh and frozen, incredible pastries, delicious sandwiches, etc. Their hazelnut marzipan cake was absolutely incredible. Soft and fluffy cake, lightly whipped hazelnut frosting and filling, and a decorated hazelnut topping, a real show stopping cake! We are so happy this is here and can't wait to continue visiting.

We stopped for lunch and to see what else was good. I had a schnitzel sandwich and my wife had a ham and cheese. Both were fantastic and my wife commented that it tasted like the ham sandwiches she had growing up. The bread, of course, was epic with a dense crumb and hearty texture. Deserts were spectacular too. I had an apple turnover that didn't leave a waxy mouthfeel. The bakery reminded us both of the bakeries and meat markets from our childhood. Decor was a basic but the goods and friendly staff were amazing. I'm sure we'll be back, especially when we feel a little homesick. I wish I lived closer so we could visit daily. We'll gladly settle for a few times a month to pick up wurst and decent bread.

Nice bread. Not great service. The lady had a huge attitude by my asking what are the ingredients. I'm allergic to quiet a few things and drove 90 minutes to go here specially. I also live in Germany half of the year so I don't need a "it's a German" recipe. I should absolutely hope so after that drive in torrential rain. Finally with much attitude she pulled out a book from underneath the counter. Two inches from her hand and where she was standing. I bought over 60$ worth of bread @6.95 + a loaf and some cookies and a coffee. Obviously this isn't enough for a staff member to make an effort and appreciate a customer. The bread quality was nice even though they didn't have the typical German bread I buy daily in Germany. The staff member was a fail. Will I go back ??? American bread is crap so for the clean ingredients no sugar etc maybe? For the customer service? No

I'm so disappointed! I've been to Bernhards so many times! We would drive up from the other side of town to pick up some goodies while we are out. Their pretzel Eckes are always a favorite as well as some sourdough bread that is priced fairly compared to other bakeries. That being said, I've had some big misses here - 1). The potato soup that is frozen had very raw potatoes in it and needed to be cooked much longer than the "ready to heat" style that the soup is. 2). Usually the gingerbread is very good but we've had some rock hard cookies from there (assuming maybe they were from the day before) but this leads to the biggest miss 3). Their bread is good when fresh but I just purchased a loaf on Saturday, brought it home and thought it tasted off. I looked closely at the package and noticed 2 stickers. I peeled off the top sticker to find that they sell DAYS old bread! So my fresh bread I picked up on Saturday was already 'only to be toasted' quality the first day I had it. Such a shame! Donate the bread people in need or at least don't charge full prices for old food!

We love this place! The pretzels are 10/10 & we love the fresh bread (yes sourdough!) & pastries. The women serving us were so friendly & helpful. We can't wait to go back & get some of the meats & sandwiches.

All in one German oasis! Store, refrigerated prepared food items, bakery with desserts and breads, coffee/tea, hot and cold sandwiches, and homemade pretzels! They have you covered! Located on Atlanta Rd in an unassuming plaza. Don't drive by too fast! Look for their wrapped van in the front parking lot and stop in! Support your local businesses!

Decided to sample this place via Postmates this morning while in a mood. Definitely worth it! Real life visit with friends is already in the works. Lol The only thing stopping five stars is the fact I ordered the 16 oz cappuccino and got the 12oz. I ordered the cream horn and chocolate dome duo, a hot pastrami sandwich, and the cappuccino. The cappuccino was AMAZING, seriously perfect. The pastries were beautiful and decadent. And, last but not least, my sandwich was perfection. Just the right amount of each ingredient on a delicious rye bread.
