Bernie's Restaurant & Bar - University City

Loved the scene here. Went to lunch and requested outside to enjoy the unseasonal 60 degree November weather. Stone with glass enclosed fire pit was warm and welcoming on the patio Had the smokehouse porter with a turkey burger, avocado and provolone. Responsive and friendly wait staff. Lunch at noon required no reservation or wait time.

Cool little spot, atmosphere is nice and open with a bright vibe... they were playing old school Motown hits. Mimosas could've been a bit stronger. Food is pretty good, I got full quickly after trying most things. The best were the omelets, shrimp, and mac 'n cheese but they have a decent variety despite the apparent size of the place.

Sometimes you get really lucky and find a place by mistake. I got so damn lucky! I had fried goat cheese on a bed of spring greens, onion, in an aioli that was Heaven. I don't order fried food out, I'm very allergic to shellfish...this is one of those rare places where I won't get sick because they don't fry everything in the same oil. Also had the jerk pork sandwhich...I have friends from Jamaica that really need to come here, they will go bananas. So I know not everyone heads to University City for an afternoon or night out......but if you find yourself in the area you really need to stop in. Wondering if they serve dessert......hhhhmmmmm

Quaint place. Very nice menu. There's something for everyone to enjoy. We had the cheesesteak egg rolls as a starter. Probably the best I've had compared to other restaurants. The meat was more like steak than chopped cheesesteak meat. I could eat them every day. The French onion soup was super cheesy and yummy. Not over salted like some places. The Karl's burger was amazing. I got the carmelized onions with blue cheese with lettuce and tomato cooked medium. The bun was perfect for this burger. You must try it. The beef was like choped steak. My friend enjoyed the Turkey burger and was equally impressed with the fresh turkey cooked to perfection. The fries were fresh cut potatoes fried to perfection. The crab cakes were not so good and were sent back but the server was amazing and accommodating. Overall a Great place to dine.

Bar OK, but would not recommend food. The turkey burger was $13, just a pattie between two breads, not particularly tasty. The fries were ordinary. Took a while for the card to be returned after charging and then another while for the food to arrive. The bar did not have two drinks that were on the menu. Not too crowded on a Saturday evening, could actually hear friends' conversation. Easy to find seats at the bar. Large comfortable bar stools. Nice interior of light wood.

We held a brunch the day after our wedding at Bernie's for 65 people and it was amazing. Everyone was raving about the brunch buffet options...everything from seafood to mac n cheese to french toast. The bottomless mimosas were a great touch as well. Everything is so reasonably priced and the wait staff is amazing. They were extremely friendly and accommodating from the second that we walked in. Highly recommend!

I am quite surprised at the overall rating of Bernie's. I just had dinner there and the meal was very disappointing. Everything was so slow. We waited forever for our drinks which was nothing compared to the wait for the food. We were not in a huge rush and was having good conversation but the wait for food became ridiculous. The worst thing was when the food came out it was not hot. The burger I ordered was very well done which is not how I ordered it. It was so late and with having to get home to the sitter, we weren't about to send anything back. The atmosphere was good and the acoustics allowed good conversation but we will never go back.

Visited for Dining Days. The food was great and prepared well. Everything was flavorful and came out to the table as described. The portion sizes were decent and matched the menu prices. Cocktails were also high quality and went well with the menu. They alao have a decent beer selection. Atmosphere was very relaxed and upbeat. If the weather is nice I would suggest eating outside on the deck.
