Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in the Tampa Area | Eater

"It’s hard to miss the big, vertical sign announcing this Ybor City Italian spot, with story-high letters beckoning you from the corner of Seventh Avenue and 17th Street. Bernini is a shining example of the neighborhood’s creative use of historic buildings, crafting a trattoria-style restaurant out of the old Bank of Ybor City building. You’ll want to check out the high ceilings, grand marble, and crown molding inside, but the best place to enjoy their fresh pastas and Italian takes on local seafood is from the sidewalk tables. It feels a little like Florida meets Florence as you sip a cold glass of Harken Chardonnay, watching tourists meander by, curiously looking up at the big sign above." - Matthew Meltzer

Where to Celebrate International Chardonnay Day in Tampa | Eater

"While Tampa is teeming with cool Italian restaurants, none has a décor quite like Bernini. The coral-colored walls are etched with giant images of screaming Roman statues, a photo-worthy backdrop to your night out. The food is also plated beautifully, and the fish and seafood dishes like the pistachio-crusted Gulf grouper and shrimp scampi will go great alongside your complimentary glass of Harken Chardonnay." - Matthew Meltzer

Best Tampa-Area Spots For Chardonnay This Memorial Day | Eater

"While Tampa is teeming with cool Italian restaurants, none has a décor quite Bernini’s. Went for a late lunch. Got the burrata caprese salad, which was quite delicious although fairly expensive for a salad. It was a large portion but still. My entree was the ravioli which had a pesto cream sauce and chicken. It was amazing, loved the sauce, ravioli was cooked perfectly, but the only downside was there were only a few bite sized pieces of chicken. Could’ve been a little more generous .. overall good experience, nice waitress and attentive.

Google
Jason Fernandez runs a great establishment. The ambience was fun and uplifting. The food was fabulous. We're from New Haven, CT area, the self proclaimed Pizza Capital of the World, so we can be pretty snobbish when it comes to pizza. But the people at Bernini know how to do it right. We each had different pizzas, and they all were great in flavor, texture and substance. The appetizer sampler was a hit and the Bernini Mule was spot on. Will return next time I'm in Tampa for sure!

Google
Absolutely loved this place! I had Chicken Parm and my husband had Lasagna. Both were amazing and the martinis were $3!!! The watermelon and Dirty were my favorites. Atmosphere and vibe were perfect. Can not wait to go back

Google
Overall, Bernini is a great experience. The happy hour deals are the best in the area. I ordered the espresso martini, shrimp orecchiette, and crème brûlée. The pasta was a little overcooked but otherwise, everything tasted good.

Amazing Amanda

Google
I’m a fan!! The 3 dollar martinis will have you feeling great every time, their happy hour is one of the best in the city.Their oysters and pasta are amazing. I love there in house made tomato sauce. The salad is great also.

Google
I must admit, I've become addicted to Bernini of Ybor. Happy Hour martinis for $3. Half priced entrees. That, along with amazing staff who are always nice, friendly, and smiling. The food is always delicious. Great service!!

Pablo

Google
A solid restaurant to get some food while in Tampa. Ended up trying the pizza, it felt handmade, thin, crispy! They might've had a bit too much onion!

melissa je

Google
Rich, flavorful food. Good martinis but small. Upstairs is small and intimate. Happy hour is best for 50% off entrees ($20-30 pp vs regular$40-60).

Yelp
Happy hour has amazing specials. Food is very tasty! Inside and outside seating available

Yelp
During a recent conference in Tampa, I decided to try this restaurant after noticing an enticing happy hour sign visible from the street. Unfortunately, my experience didn't quite live up to expectations. Upon entering, I took a seat at the bar, but the service left much to be desired. The bartender was neither friendly nor accommodating, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was not welcomed. This lack of hospitality set a disappointing tone for the rest of the visit. I ordered the seafood pasta and a drink. While the dish arrived piping hot, it fell short in terms of flavor. Most notably, the shrimp still had the tails on, which was an inconvenience in a pasta dish--something I found unacceptable for a restaurant specializing in pasta. When I requested fresh Parmesan, I was surprised to learn that they didn't offer any, further detracting from the overall experience. The drinks were average, and while the ambiance was passable, it didn't particularly stand out. The cleanliness of the bathrooms could also have been improved. All in all, it was a less-than-remarkable experience, and I'm not sure I would return. Although it wasn't a total loss, there's certainly room for improvement in both service and attention to detail.

Yelp
I took my GF out for dinner before attending the Ballet. It was both our first times, and while it was beautiful, the din inside was so loud. It was hard ro have a conversation with my companion. The food was ok, the Chicken Parmesan was dry, and hard to chew. My friend loved her duck, except the broccoli was pretty raw. Overall an Ok experience.

Yelp
Bernini had a happy hour that ended at 7pm with $3 martinis. The restaurant was packed upstairs and down stairs. Happy hour was only at the bar and there was no space at the downstairs bar. We found seats at the upstairs bar. The $3 martinis were good. The food that we saw pass by us being served to other people looked amazing !

Yelp
Visited here on a Sunday around 6, we were pleasantly surprised by their special: half off pasta dishes and $3 martinis. The service was good, our server was attentive. The ambiance was nice, the restaurant use to be a bank. The food was good, could have used a little more flavor but it was good. When we asked for cheese, I was expecting freshly grated cheese from a restaurant like this, I was disappointed that it was the cold shake from a jar cheese. I would visit again the next time I'm I'm Ybor, especially if they still have that special.

Yelp
"Recommended to us" The atmosphere was beautifully inviting. The choice of colors were warm. Long and very tall walls accentuated with these long oversized windows all made your eyes wonder around the room. Decor wonderful. The service was top notch, shout out to BOB!! Greeted us, sat us, was very knowledgeable about the food options, very accommodating, kind, professional and took very good care of us during our dinner. The food arrived reasonably quickly, was hot, seasoned to perfection and so tasty! I ventured with the Diablo shrimp & crab sauce over spaghetti, hubby went with the sausage, peppers & onions over his choice of Penne. We very much enjoyed our experience here, food well done. Kiss to the chef highly recommended for a tastebud adventure

Yelp
We have eaten here many times and the food and service are always excellent. It is located in an historic building in Ybor City. They also have a 3rd floor where we have hosted and attended private events.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Overall our experience was a good one here. They have a great happy hour special on Sunday which we were pleasantly surprised to find. The food was very good and the service was equally as good. The music and ambiance was unique but a great place to check out.

Yelp
Bernini of Ybor is truly one of the best hidden gems in Ybor City. While most people head to the area for Cuban food or the lively club scene, this stunning Italian restaurant is an absolute must-visit. The location itself is beautiful, full of charm and character that reflects its long-standing history in the area. It's the perfect spot for a special meal, with a classic yet vibrant atmosphere that sets it apart from the usual Ybor hotspots. Their happy hour is one of the best around, offering unbeatable deals on both food and drinks. But even outside of happy hour, the full-priced meals are well worth it, given the quality and flavor of everything they serve. Personally, my go-to entree is the Crispy Duck with an incredible cherry sauce that perfectly balances sweet and savory. For appetizers, I can never resist their calamari, which is always cooked to perfection. The drinks are just as impressive, with generous pours and a great cocktail selection that never disappoints. Whether you're looking for a pre-dinner drink or something to pair with your meal, they've got you covered. Bernini is a spot that shouldn't be missed when visiting Ybor, offering an unforgettable dining experience with amazing service that stands out among the rest.

Yelp
Ambiance was great. Service was good. Food needed salt and flavor. Seafood pasta was tasteless and mushy.

Yelp
These folks have it figured out. It is a well-oiled machine. I love Bernini and have been many times. Here's what I like- they get you seated quickly. They take orders quickly. The food comes out quickly. My pasta dish literally had steam coming off it. They have an amazing happy hour from 3-7 every single day and the savings are for both food and drinks. Who doesn't love $3 martinis and fancy homemade pasta for $17? It is also cool inside because it is Ybor so it's old and unique. This location actually has 3 stories. The 3rd floor is for private parties but regular diners can sit on the 2nd floor. We loved the bread and whatever garlickly spread they provide. My mom couldn't stop eating it.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
Sure! Here's a revised version: --- Bernini's has the best happy hour in the city! It runs every day from 3-7, offering $3 martinis with Skyy Vodka and 50% off entrees. Imagine enjoying incredible food on a popular strip at such a great deal! The inside is cozy, but they do a wonderful job making everyone feel comfortable and spacious. My favorite dish: Shrimp Orecchiette and Salmon (pictured) I have nothing but gratitude for the wait staff and hosting team--they're always happy and go above and beyond! It's recommended to make reservations or try your luck at the bar. There are also a few outdoor tables where cigar smoking is allowed. Parking is limited to street parking, nearby lots, and a few garages.

Yelp
Just the restroom needs some work ,it needs to be bigger in sizes , everything else is good

Yelp
I used to go to Bernini every Sunday 10 years ago because I was obsessed with the veal lasagna. Stopped in yesterday to see if it was still as amazing a decade later... it is! The sauce is to die for. I'd eat it on anything. Also, those Ybor Oysters... *chef kiss* it's been so hard to find great oysters lately and those were so good, I had to order another round after the first and then I convinced the guy at the bar to order some too! I know this seems fat, but I also ordered the duck entree. I'm not a sweet and savory person so I was unsure about the cherry demi-glaze and the chef came over and offered me a sample of a lemony caper sauce she thought would be a great accompaniment and she was right! It was so good, I poured some on the oysters too and asked for some to take home. I came in during happy hour when all the entrees were half off and the martinis were $3 each and I had 4 martinis... so maybe it was the alcohol tasting my food for me, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
google avatar

Trent N.

Yelp
Every day from 4-7pm $3 Espresso Martinis. Once again $3 Espresso Martinis. It isn't limited to just Espresso Martinis either. It's actually all martinis on the page of the menu I'll take a pic of. How does this restaurant not advertise $3 Espresso Martinis everywhere? I bet their business would 100x overnight. I also, had the Tortelloni Carbonara half off for $18. Who knew this was the best happy hour in all of Tampa Bay? Apparently I've been living under a rock. I thought the pasta was good not great. Fine for $18. The regular price of $36 would definitely be on the overrated side. I'll for sure be back to enjoy more $3 Espresso Martinis.

Yelp
Walked by and decided to try. Had a small wait before being seated. The restaurant smells of Italian cheeses which smelled so good. Got a happy hour drink before ordering (strawberry basil gimlet) very light and refreshing. Ordered the bruschetta and focaccia bread for apps. The bread was average but the bruschetta was very good!!! Only three pieces... For Main we got the chicken parm and the ravioli! The ravioli was very good minus the chicken which was slightly dry. The parm was also good but the noodle part was very average. Service was great and we didn't need to ask for anything. Would recommend a try if you're in the area .

Yelp
My friends and I enjoyed our visit to Bernini's. We decided to go here for happy hour after work on a Friday. It was a good choice! The staff were welcoming and it definitely gave the Italian style vibe inside. The tables were pretty close on the first floor, but we were able to manage. They had $3 martinis with a variety of flavors. They have happy hour from 11:30am-7pm. There was also 50% off pastas and entrees from 3-7pm. What a great deal! We got the calamari for our appetizer. It was perfectly crispy and had great flavor. For our meals, we all decided to get pasta. They were all pretty good.

jon w.

Yelp
I always love this place! Foods consistent, service is really friendly and good. $3 martinis and half prices entrees at happy hour and all day Sunday is insane!
google avatar

Janet M.

Yelp
Ah such a great quaint place to visit. This place is sooo worth it!!! Its in the heart of Ybor city, about a block or so away from garage parking or pay for street parking. We the ladies from work all went for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Bruschetta was delish! From Caesar salad, steak sandwich w/ garlic fries, margarita pizza and chicken parmigiana all were amazing! We can safely say that every dish we had was Delicious and filling. Of course we got desserts and each tried each one, tiramisu, chocolate cake and cassata cake. Great sweet treats! Go and check this place out if you love Italian food! Server could have said Happy Birthday but he didn't.... I could be petty.
google avatar

Jason Q.

Yelp
The food is good, baked ziti's meat sauce is bland and doesn't taste good. The fries are good, calamari is good. I think it's a good restaurant in the heart of Ybor City, but the service is fast. The environment of the location is terrible, each corner has someone smoking weed or something. Seating is fine, waiters are nice, overall I recommend this.

Eric S.

Yelp
The food was overall disappointing. We ordered the pizza, gnocchi, and duck. The pizza was ok, pretty salty. The gnocchi was inedible and we have to send it back. The meat in the sauce was chalky and the pasta was as well, terrible texture and not good taste. The duck was decent, not quite as crispy as I would expect. Also, the $3 cocktails are terrible and I don't recommend them, they have barely any alcohol and tons of fake flavor/sugar. The ambiance and service were good. Overall I won't not return.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a nice enough place if you are in Ybor City, Florida and looking for a nice meal in a nice setting with friendly and professional service. A lot of people do not realize the history of Italian Americans in Ybor City, Florida and this was a nice restaurant. I would definitely recommend here.

Maggie V.

Yelp
The food was great. That ambience was fantastic. The waiter was really nice and help us picking out a menu. Would definitely go back.
google avatar

Martha W.

Yelp
Oh wow! What a gem! Get the chicken parm for a safe bet - cooked to perfection but it's the amazing sauce that puts it right over the edge. Can't wait to come back! Omgoodness - don't leave without having their key lime pie or tiramisu. Save room but don't skip dessert here!

Rob R.

Yelp
Excellent food and attentive service make this restaurant a must visit. In a dozen plus visits I have never had a bad dish or any complaints about the serving staff. Pastas are excellent! Try one!
google avatar

Yelp
Went to Bernini last night with a friend. I was a little scared to have Italian somewhere not in the NYC area, but this place blew me out of the water! The waiter was so kind and helpful. The ambiance was cool. I loved that they kept the old bank sign. For an appetizer, we had the fried calamari: perfection. I loved that it came with not only marinara sauce, but also a lemon sauce and a spicy sauce. All 3 had great flavor! For dinner, my friend got the Shrimp orecchiette and said he loved it. I had the Pizza di Parma- obsessed! I loved the blend of flavors between the red sauce, the mozzarella, the prosciutto and the balsamic. A must try if you're in the Tampa area!
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
So this was my first time at Bernini and I enjoyed the meal. First off it was happy hour so 3 dollar martinis and half off entrees kinda can't beat that. We both got the filet and it was seasoned well. One the cook was a little off but still tasty. I opted to swap the mashed for the truffle risotto and I was not disappointed as the mashed was average at best. Everything else was tasty and seasoned well. The butter cake that was made by the owners mom was really tasty and boozy. Over all the atmosphere was relaxed but nice enough for a date night. The service was decent. Not the best not the worst. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Bernini's is a wonderful restaurant. The people are warm and friendly. The service is great, and the food is excellent. My wife and I went there with 12 Seasoned Foodies(TM) and had a wonderful time! My wife and I both had the Seafood fra Diablo. WOW! Not only was the Seafood and the Pasta cooked spot on, but the "heat" was just right, spicy enough for me yet easily tolerated by my wife who has GERDS. Three of our foodies feasted on the Pork Osso Bucho, which looked and from the empty plates must have tasted amazing. Our friends usually take home about half a meal for later. Not this time. Just empty plates. The Tortelloni Carbonara makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The basil and sweet peas give it a green appearance that would make St. Patrick wish he were Italian. We had a wonderful time. For our convenience the server calculated a nice tip, but the form had a space to add more for those who felt she hadn't been generous enough. We highly recommend Bernini's in Ta

Yelp
I sat at the bar since I was by myself. I was recommended to order the salmon. Delicious! They serve the lemon cream sauce on the side, so you can dip as much or as little as you like. The salmon is on top a bed of wilted spinach and vegetables. The ceiling here is truly eye catching with its sky blue outlined in white and gold crown molding.
google avatar

Yelp
Great ambiance. Food and drinks were solid. Great ybor dining spot. Can get crowded early on, so make a reservation.

Yelp
I will round up and give this place a four star. I've passed this restaurant multiple times but never went in. Well, I went for a girls happy hour on a random weekday and was thoroughly impressed. The inside was cozy and our waiter was great. He made sure to get all our meals in before the happy hour ender. I was very impressed with the raviolis in the pesto cream sauce. The sauce was delicious! The shrimp and grits and fettuccine bolognese were also very good. Will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I are regulars at Bernini. We love their Happy Hour; it has in my view, the best value in Ybor City! The food, attention, and service are exceptional. They are consistently good, no matter what time of the day you visit. Bernini is in the must list of restaurants to bring family and friends from out of town. The menu is simple, not over crowded with choices, yet the variety covers all eating habits, including Vegetarian. I guess by now we have tried almost everything on their menu but there are some choices worth highlighting. Appetizers: Calamari is always fresh, crispy and tender. The sausage appetizer is also great! Love the sauce! Salads: We loved the Anti-Pasta salad they use to have. It was a plate perfect for sharing! Bring it back! The Burrata Cheese Caprese salad is also one of our favorites! Mains: My personal favorite is the Osso Bucco! Huge portion of tender pork shanks in a delicious sauce. Even I cant finish it! My second favorite is the Crispy Duck although the Shrimp Rissotto is not far behind! Did I mentioned the pizzas? They are all great! Crispy crust and amazing sauce! Bernini of Ybor is absolutely a must stop while in the area. Stop by!
google avatar

Yelp
Love love LOVE this place!! Pretty neat place, staff was fairly friendly, food was amazing!!! Went to get pasta and ended up getting the duck. Was not disappointed at all, very impressed and their creme brûlée was to die for. Also, they have an incredible lunch and HH special. Even though it's really nice, it's super casual during the day- definitely recommend anyone stop by and try this place out!!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious.. our 1st time visit. We will be back soon. The veal chop was one of the best ever!
google avatar

Shy H.

Yelp
They have a fantastic happy hour that you should not miss. Their gilroy pizza is delicious. Salmon is also great choice.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
We were here a couple of weeks back. Our service was good, and we also really liked the building/atmosphere. Our Caesar salad and my pasta entree were both great. We also had some good drinks. My buddy also enjoyed his mussel dish to be fair. The grouper that my gal ordered on the other hand was criminally bad (I'm not one to whine about dishes). The fish was clearly not even near being fresh (color & flavor). Besides that the glaze on it just tasted like maple syrup (syrup on grouper, really?), just bad. The broccoli was over cooked and the mashers were average at best.
google avatar

Maxine M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. The servings are big. My friend got the pork osso bucco was delicious. My other friend got the chicken Parmesan over spaghetti and it was also delicious. As an appetizer, I got the bacon wrapped shrimp and again it was delicious. I and another hot pizza. They are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Great waiters and ambience.
google avatar

Yelp
Food comes out quickly and delicious -- Done to perfection -- pastas and pizzas are my absolute favorites. Service is always friendly and professional. Bernini's will take a (15+) large party at the last minute! I started with a party of 4 and an hour before my reservation was able to create a new reservation and accommodate almost 12 additional people. I will say, it mattered that I was there prior to peak hours -- Bernini's happy hour (4-7pm) may be the best one in the county and can be s super calm ambiance right at 4pm, but will become more bustle as 6pm approaches. Even as more people arrived, the chefs still maintained the standard with fast and gourmet plates! Food is freshly made to order, so nothing comes out cold... except for maybe the butter to your bread. Also, never hurts that they have $3 martinis from 11:30am until 7pm... overall, this is my kind of place.
google avatar

Daryl H.

Yelp
Food has been consistently good and priced well when you go during happy hour, which extends through the weekend. The inside is attractive but can be loud and the outside has the sights, sounds, and smells of the street (good and bad) so we pick inside/outside just based on the weather. Service this last time was better than normal but can be on the slow side so recommend ordering an extra $3 HH martini when you get the chance and just enjoying the moment.
google avatar

Kathie S.

Yelp
Food and service great..drinks amazing and priced right.would definately recommend .nice people and very good service
google avatar

Carol T.

Yelp
Bernini is an icon in Tampa. The historic setting creates an elegant ambiance. We had a party of 6 to celebrate a birthday. Our appetizers, calamari and bruschetta, came out quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed them! Our entrees arrived soon after. Two had chicken parm, two had steak, one had grouper & one had ravioli. Every one of our dishes was exceptional! The portion size was en pointe. Our server was pleasant and attentive, even sharing a story about a ghost on the 3rd floor. Entrees are half price before 7, so our bill was quite reasonable. Bernini is one of our Ybor faves.
google avatar

Irene E.

Yelp
We've 6:30 candlelight concert at Centro Asturiano de Tampa in Ybor City so come in early for dinner on Valentine's Day. This Italian restaurant's location is excellent, on the 7th Avenue, housed in the old Ybor Bank building, with vaulted ceiling and multiple levels. Service is good. We're on the second floor. A few staff is pretty rambunctious, laughing unbridledly - gosh! Food is very good. Especially the lamb chop and the blue cheese mussels with good grade bacon . Chicken parmigiana is so so. Malbec is great. The thick and flaky butter with herbs is served in the plastic container, that feels so cheap. The bread is solid and cold. Big thick stems - a big turn off. The table is very sturdy.

S F.

Yelp
Great service, great ambiance with the building history, nice menu, but, $28 for a salad with grilled chicken is pretty steep!
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
It's been over a decade that I've wanted to try happy hour here. Back in the day they used to have $2 finlandia martinis. It has since changed to $3 and it's not quite the same as finlandia but it's decent enough. The martinis weren't very good but for $3 it was perfectly fine. What's also crazy about this happy hour is that the entrees are half price. We had a $40 awesome osso buco dish for only $20. My husband and I split it because we had other plans the rest of the night but I was dying to try it here. I was definitely so pleased and so happy we are finally able to get here! Definitely come for the drinks and for the food. You cannot beat the prices on the quality.
google avatar

Jo P.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Ordered the 17th St salad, veal lasagna and fettuccine bolognese. Fresh baked focaccia and garlic butter was served as well. Our server was great too. Loved the paintings on the walls too. Sadly, the staff was short handed but the manager in his tight shirt did not help the server out except slice bread. Come here for the food and service. Ignore the selfish manager. PS Came in at 2:30pm on a Sunday and martinis are $3.

Dolly D.

Yelp
I love Bernini. The food is delicious, the service is excellent. The servers are friendly and professional. Ybor is a cool place to go and Bernini has a great Ybor vibe. Sitting outside on a nice evening is an enjoyable experience. Happy hour is a good deal - try the $3 martinis!

Sheila James K.

Yelp
Great prices for happy hour. Very good food. Nothing like coming to the cigar district of Tampa.
google avatar

Tina L.

Yelp
I finally made it here & I was very pleased with my food...service & my $3 happy hour martini. I will most definitely be back to try some other delicious foods on the menu!
google avatar

Freidrich D.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant. Great food and service. I've been there with different groups 5 times. Always good. The Ybor district has become a little seedy in the down turned economy over the last 3.5 years. Hopefully there are better times ahead for us.
